[11]
Hello everyone, its Aunt Frenita
[14]
The title of today's story is 'Going Fishing'
[21]
The memory verse is from Matthew 4:19
[26]
It says, '"Come, follow me," Jesus said, 'And I will make you fishers of men."'
[33]
The message is I follow Jesus and share him with others
[39]
Have you ever caught a fish?
[41]
Or watched anyone fishing?
[44]
A long time ago, men learned a new way to fish
[49]
The lake was rising over the hills, east over Lake Gennesaret
[54]
Peter and his brother Andrew had fished all night
[58]
without catching a thing
[59]
"Lets go" Peter said
[62]
They pulled up their nets and headed for the shore
[65]
As the people crowded closer and closer
[68]
Jesus stepped into Peter's boat
[70]
and asked him to pull out into the water
[74]
He sat in the boat and continued to talk to the crowd of people on the shore
[79]
He told them that they could be in God's kingdom
[82]
if they believed in Him
[85]
When he finished speaking
[86]
Jesus turned to Peter and said
[89]
"Lets go out and catch some fish"
[92]
Andrew was puzzled
[93]
The sun was high over head
[96]
Nobody fished in the heat of the day
[99]
Why?
[100]
Because the fish were far below the surface in the cool deep waters of the lake
[107]
"We've worked all night without catching a thing," Peter said
[112]
"But because you say so, I will let down the nets."
[117]
Peter and Andrew threw their big net far from the boat
[121]
It was suddenly full of fish
[124]
The net was so heavy with fish
[127]
that the boat began to tip over
[130]
"Help us!" Peter cried to James and John in their nearby boat
[135]
"We're sinking!"
[137]
James and John hurried to help them
[140]
Hauling that heavy net was hard work
[144]
James and John took part of their fish into their own boat
[148]
Both boats were so full that they barely made it back to shore without sinking
[153]
"If you follow me," Jesus said
[156]
"You will fish for men"
[159]
Jesus meant that they would tell people about Him
[163]
The four fishermen looked at their boats
[166]
they had never before caught so many fish at one time
[170]
Truly, this was a miracle
[174]
And the man who had made it happen wanted them to follow Him
[179]
Peter remembered the people who had followed Jesus to the lake shore
[183]
He thought of his nets so full that his boat had almost sunk
[188]
He probably thought of all the money he could earn
[192]
But he decided to follow Jesus
[195]
So did Andrew, James and John
[199]
They walked away from the biggest catch they had ever seen
[204]
They left everything behind
[206]
and put Jesus first in their lives
[209]
As long as they lived
[211]
They told many people about Him
[215]
We too can follow Jesus when we put him first
[218]
And tell others about Him
[221]
He will lead us to those who need to know about Him
[224]
And he will help us to be fishers of men
