Jason, tell us about your career before Freedom.

My career has primarily been in the financial services industry.

I started in the credit card space.
[32]
I did about 10 years there - working in collections actually.

And then moved from that into lending.

I worked internationally in Canada and the UK.

I did that for another 10 years.

I made a pivot into Home Services,

but I'm definitely happy to be back in the financial services space.

It's kind of what I've always considered home.

Where did you grow up?
[52]
I grew up in the Bay Area

so I'm a huge San Francisco 49ers and Giants fan.

I definitely love The Bay.

Then made my way to Salt Lake City, UT...

Then to Victoria ,Canada...

then over to Nottingham in England...

Memphis, TN...

and now here in Tempe, AZ.

What actually inspired you to join Freedom?

Living in Memphis with my kids...

this has a lot to do with the family and the

personal change that we wanted to make.

The family wanted to - the boys wanted to go to ASU.

And their thought was, 'you know... we live here in Memphis.'

'you know... we're here in the South. We love the South.'

'But, we want to move back to the West Coast.'

'We grew up in Utah, then you brought us to Memphis...'

'but we want to go to Arizona State University.'

So our thoughts started moving towards "how do we get there?"

But I wanted to find the right job.

and instantly things aligned.

All I did was I looked up a couple of different jobs in Arizona.

I saw this Freedom Debt Relief.

I've been in lending for so long that to come on the other side and say

of these people that we've given debt to,

that I've given debt to in my prior careers -

you know, some people are overextended.

It would be an interesting career to pivot,

and I'll help them get out of that debt.

They may not have beat it.

What about your work would surprise other people the most?

I don't think people understand how the program works.

How long it takes. Why it works.

And it's this concept of -

you have a consumer that isn't able to make all of their monthly payments.

So they have several credit cards.

Each credit card has a minimum payment.
[144]
To add up all those minimum payments - they can't make that total value.

So when you come into our program,

we're going to take the total amount of the debt owed,
[150]
and we're going to calculate what we believe we can settle
[153]
or how much we believe we can reduce that debt.

that's less than what someone would pay the creditors.

As long as the client is consistent with that lower deposit,

they've now been alleviated of the pressure,

the burden of the full value of the payments.

Then we begin to negotiate directly with the creditors on their behalf.

And that's the beauty of the program.

There's no fee, there's no revenue on our side - until we get to work done.

We have to deliver first in order to get paid.

Well that I was attractive to me, in being in a very

honest, integrous, upfront business.

What is the most important thing that people should know

about the operations department here at Freedom?

The thing that I would like people to know is that

we have the client's best interest at heart.

We are in several meetings where our conversation
[203]
is about what's best for our customer.

We all care,

up and down, throughout the organization.

And our agents on the phones are just as passionate.

They care just as much.

I mean, we lead with the heart.

What about your work would suprise other people the most?

It's probably how hands-on the leadership team is.

In this organization, what would be surprising is

how many people want to talk.

How many people want to participate.

They have an opinion. They have an idea.

We're a very collaborative group.

Everyone's looking for a way to add value.

What would you say is the secret to providing

the best possible experience for all of our clients?

One of the things that we're very focused on is

making sure we're always up front and honest
[244]
about what's next in the program.

What's next, what we anticipate next from the creditor.

What we anticipate next in the program.

Present people with the facts. Present people the truth.

And let them make an informed decision on what they want to do next.

Just tell the truth.

What advice would you give to a younger Jason Pack?

Take risks.
[262]
It took me a while to trust my own instincts
[266]
and my own intuition.
[267]
And the only way you're going to learn is by failing.

So it's okay to take a couple of those risks. Make the mistake.

Just be humble enough to learn from it
[276]
and then get better every day.

You can't learn without the risk.

So I would challenge myself to take risks earlier in life

and learn from them faster than I did the past.
