Q: Describe corporate life in one word.
[2]
饾槕饾槱饾槩饾槸饾槬
[4]
Hierarchy.
[5]
I doubt there's something more important than that in corporate.
[8]
I think all departments have work but there are lazy people in every department.
[22]
My name is Sanam Buxani and I'm 22 years old.
[25]
My name is Drishti Sharma and I'm 25 years old.
[27]
My name is Tilak Shah and I'm 27 years old
[30]
and I run a start-up called 'Ace of Pubs'.
[35]
Slavering
[36]
饾槕饾槱饾槩饾槸饾槬
[38]
Routine
[39]
And if I need to get a job in the future then,
[41]
you heard me wrong.
[42]
I said 'Bravery'.
[44]
Our generation has not only tainted corporate life but rather everything
[47]
They think that doing every other thing is difficult.
[50]
I definitely don't believe in it.
[52]
Corporate life had always been infamous
[54]
we have just accepted the reality of it.
[57]
But, I don't think corporate life is actually difficult,
[60]
it's very easy.
[61]
We live in a time where we want all of the things to be very fast,
[64]
like we want to make money fast,
[66]
we want to progress quickly,
[68]
we want to get our promotions quickly.
[69]
It's not easy to get things to the main head
[72]
because the hierarchy is such that
[74]
first, you'll talk to the manager
[76]
then you'll talk to the manager's manager
[77]
then their manager and then you'll get to talk to the CEO and others.
[81]
But, hierarchy is very strong in corporates.
[85]
If you have your own start-up and you get 1-2 big breaks then
[89]
all of a sudden you could be at the top of your ladder.
[91]
There are people above and below you,
[93]
not in a good way.
[94]
And I think, getting things to the main head depends on the company.
[98]
Hierarchy.
[99]
I doubt there's something more important than that in corporate.
[103]
If an employee directly wants to contact the CEO then it is very difficult.
[107]
There are many people who see the opportunities to get past these things
[113]
so they get these things done in a fun way.
[116]
But there are many people who mind their own business.
[123]
Usually, big companies don't have too much politics
[126]
At least there wasn't any politics where I was working.
[129]
But there was a girl who wanted to get an important thing done
[133]
and she'd said that she'd already called or mailed me to remind me
[138]
but that had never happened.
[139]
So, because of miscommunication, I got involved too.
[142]
All the blame was on me that because of me, the work wasn't done.
[145]
No, I think they should just keep working hard and develop a thick skin,
[148]
charge at it.
[149]
When an employee joins a company, he isn't given an agreement
[153]
stating that they can do anything but not love.
[155]
This is an unsaid rule that
[158]
it's better if you don't fall in love.
[160]
But, love can happen anywhere,
[162]
whether it's the office or somewhere else.
[163]
There are people, but everyone hides it because I think there are a lot of policies against it.
[168]
Modern-day organizations,
[170]
I don't think they keep so many policies against this
[173]
but if you see orthodox or traditional organizations
[177]
then yes, there are policies.
[180]
If you're gonna spend a chunk of your life in the office then,
[183]
there is a slight possibility that you'll fall for somebody in the office.
[187]
No no, this is a lie.
[189]
They don't pay you 30K for work that's worth 50K.
[191]
They pay you 30K for work that's worth 80K!
[194]
So, if you see a corporate model then that's actually it.
[198]
As an employee, your input or rather output towards the organization
[204]
the organization will get a higher input.
[206]
That's the way it works
[208]
otherwise, there's no use of that model.
[211]
50K?
[211]
No.
[213]
They make you work worth Rs.1 Lakh
[215]
All departments are time-pass.
[216]
No one is doing their work if you actually see.
[219]
But everyone does act as if they're working.
[222]
So, this is it.
[223]
They'll be playing games
[224]
and just as the boss comes, they'll switch their tab.
[226]
I don't think we can generalize departments like this
[229]
but I think all departments have work
[231]
but there are lazy people in all departments.
[233]
According to me, no department is lousy.
[237]
But of course, there are a lot of jokes going around when it comes to the HR teams of departments.
[243]
But, I'm completely against it.
[245]
I don't get how people don't see their value.
[251]
I thought that I...
[253]
Actually, I entered the corporate world directly after college.
[256]
So, I thought just as I got friends in college, I'll get friends in the corporate world too.
[262]
But, that didn't happen.
[263]
There's a big difference between 'friends' and 'colleagues'
[265]
and I have learned it the hard way.
[267]
'EY' was the first company to come and I was very privileged and humbled and grateful
[272]
that I got the chance to work with them.
[275]
It affects then you can just make jokes about it
[278]
then you'll succeed at your job
[280]
and then it'll affect you more and then you can make more jokes about it
[283]
and eventually, you'll burnout and your career will be over.
[285]
It's a very vicious circle if you're not enjoying your job
[291]
or if you're having a tough time outside of your job
[294]
because of which there's a sort of burnout situation
[297]
There's pressure from above that you're not delivering
[300]
and then because of that it again leads to you not performing very well.
[303]
And it affects your health, it affects your morale, your self-confidence.
[307]
Of course, it is possible.
[309]
But there's this thing, like I told before, your brain explodes just by doing your job
[315]
so if you're so mentally stable that you can manage time for your personal work too
[319]
then you can manage it easily.
[321]
If you take the example of my company, then they were very supportive.
[323]
If I had an event at night in a Pub
[326]
for a Pub Quiz because I enjoyed hosting events.
[329]
I used to get a lot of happiness from that.
[333]
So, they never stopped me.
[335]
They supported me whenever I got an opportunity.
[339]
If you want such an opportunity then
[341]
I'm very happy to be your side hustle.
[343]
Our events take place in the whole country,
[346]
in 14-15 cities,
[347]
they're happening at your favorite pubs and bars across the country.
[351]
If you're excited to host an event,
[353]
if you're interested in that thing,
[355]
if you like meeting people
[357]
you're confident in front of the mic
[358]
then please reach out to us.
[360]
Or if not, then you can always attend our events as well.
[363]
If you want to leave your job and follow your passion
[365]
then I'll suggest that you do it only when
[367]
you become financially stable in your passion.
[370]
At least, try earning as much as you get through your job.
[373]
I would say, do the switch ASAP.
[375]
If you know what you want or you can do well,
[378]
what you can pursue
[379]
If you have a little bit of confidence and a few guts,
[382]
if you're committed to your idea
[384]
100% I can promise that there is a market for return in a country like ours.
[388]
The people who want to follow their passion, go for it.
[390]
And don't stop.
[392]
Don't give up.
[393]
And people who want to join a corporate job,
[396]
Stop.
[397]
Give up and just do something if you want to do.
[400]
The corporate world is very different.
[402]
And you'll get a lot of things to learn.
[404]
Leadership qualities,
[405]
Communication Skills,
[406]
Your confidence will increase.
[408]
There are a lot of good things.
[409]
And just be prepared to learn.
[411]
If you're going with the learning mindset in the corporate world, you'll learn a lot of things.
[415]
If you see it from many ways then it is a shield,
[419]
if you fit perfectly under that shield,
[423]
you know if you've settled well inside,
[425]
it's a very good place to be.
[426]
Because then outside the shield, whatever may hit you
[429]
whether it's the pandemic or a stock market crash,
[433]
whatever it is, once you have a job and you're good at it,
[435]
you're secured.
[436]
So if you're thinking of doing a job or applying for a job,
[441]
then of course you need to know which team you're working for
[445]
or what kind of work you'll be doing.
[446]
If you're confident about it,
[448]
go for it!
