Subcontract Work - YouTube
Channel: Government Contracting With Felicia Streeter
[0]
Wonder what you need to do in order to get
work on government projects as a subcontractor?
[6]
In this video, I'm sharing three simple steps
to getting subcontractor work with large primes
[13]
on
[35]
government projects.
[37]
I've helped thousands of contractors with
this and it's actually outlined step by step
[44]
inside of my Contractors Edge Bootcamp, which
I'll put the link down below.
[49]
Let's dive into three simple steps to government
contracting success.
[53]
Are you ready?
[54]
All right.
[55]
Here's the deal.
[56]
If you're taking notes, you're going to want
to write this down and if you're not taking
[60]
notes, you're going to want to write this
down.
[62]
Are you ready?
[63]
All right, let's dive in.
[64]
The first thing you need to have in place
is your registrations.
[69]
You need to have a business entity set up.
[72]
You need to be registered in SAM registration.
[75]
With that comes other registrations and things
you need to have, but the end result is you
[82]
need to be registered in SAMs.
[85]
You also need to have your NAICS codes.
[87]
Now again, everything builds off of the previous
thing.
[91]
It's kind of like math.
[93]
You learn to add before you subtract.
[96]
You learned to multiply before you divide.
[100]
One builds on the other.
[102]
Getting your business ready to do work with
the government is the same thing.
[105]
It's a step by step.
[107]
One action builds on the other and you must
do them in order step by step because if you
[113]
do not and you skip a step, you're going to
have to go back.
[117]
It's kind of like baseball when you miss the
base, you don't touch it, and they send you
[121]
back.
[122]
Same thing, okay?
[123]
You got to do it step by step in a sequenced
order.
[126]
If you don't know the steps and you need them
laid out for you, I will put the link down
[129]
below to my sequencing formula.
[133]
It is a mini-course, mini-training ideally,
to really just lay out the steps for you on
[139]
what you need to do to get qualified and ready
to do work with the government.
[145]
I'll put the link down below for that.
[146]
The second thing is certifications.
[148]
I'm going to riff these off to you real quick,
but any of them that apply, you want to make
[153]
sure you apply for them.
[155]
Okay?
[156]
Woman-owned small business, economically disadvantaged
woman-owned small business, service-disabled
[161]
veteran-owned small business, veteran-owned
small business, minority business enterprise,
[167]
disadvantaged business enterprise, small business
enterprise, and state HUB.
[173]
Yes, there are a few others, but if you're
just starting out, let's focus here.
[179]
Okay?
[180]
Second thing is you want to have your certifications,
right?
[182]
One you need to be registered.
[184]
Two, you need to have your certifications
for what you qualify, okay?
[189]
Comment down below and let me know.
[191]
Have you bid a contract before and have you
won a contract before?
[198]
Let us know.
[201]
If you鈥檝e bid a contract before, you can
just say bid.
[204]
If you've actually won one, you can say won,
or awarded, or you can say no if both answers
[209]
are no, but let me know.
[210]
I'd like to know where you guys are at because
it'll help me in the type of content I need
[216]
to provide to you guys to keep teaching you.
[219]
Okay?
[220]
Share down in the comments.
[221]
Okay, let's dive into bidding contracts.
[222]
This is the third step.
[225]
Remember, first you've got to register.
[228]
Second, apply for your certifications.
[229]
Number three is actually bid the contract.
[232]
How are you going to do that?
[234]
Remember we've been talking about this month
a lot about subcontracting?
[236]
We've been talking a lot about subcontracting
and it doesn't stop there.
[240]
This is what I'm talking about here now.
[243]
You want to find prime contractors that you
can do work with.
[247]
Understand this: a lot of the large prime
contractors on government projects are required
[254]
to have, one, a subcontracting plan.
[256]
In that subcontracting plan, they have their
plan of women-owned businesses they want to
[263]
give a percentage of the project to service-disabled
vets, things like that, or DBEs, whatever
[267]
it is.
[268]
You want to make sure you're finding primes
that are large primes because they will have
[274]
a subcontracting plan and they're actually
looking for you.
[278]
What did I say?
[279]
You're going to find primes.
[281]
They have subcontracting plans.
[283]
It's required that they sub out a portion
of the work and it allows you to take advantage
[288]
of the certifications you have.
[290]
Do you see why I said step two is to get your
certifications?
[294]
Now let me just share something with you really
quickly before I close this out.
[298]
I'm not saying you have to wait until you
have your certifications to bid.
[302]
I get this question a lot.
[304]
Even in the bootcamp, I have to remind people
that there's never a place or a space where
[310]
you're just sitting waiting because you have
nothing to do.
[313]
Even if you're waiting on your SAM registration,
there's something you can be working on.
[318]
Even if you're waiting on your certifications
to come back, there's something you can be
[322]
working on.
[323]
You can still be bidding opportunities, okay?
[325]
It's all about strategy and execution, strategy,
and execution.
[332]
Okay?
[334]
That's how you can quickly find subcontracting
work.
[338]
Now if you need help, if you need help in
this and you're finding it difficult, you're
[344]
not alone, first of all.
[345]
Let me just say that.
[346]
That is why I've created resources to help
you through this.
[350]
This is why I'm doing these videos because
you're not alone.
[353]
Okay?
[354]
If you need help finding subcontracting work,
deciding your approach to bidding the contract,
[363]
breaking down the solicitation, and then writing
the proposal, I do want to invite you into
[369]
the Contractors Edge Bootcamp.
[371]
We're doing live sessions.
[373]
Registration is currently open.
[375]
We're going to actually walk through those
things step by step and you're actually going
[379]
to find an opportunity for you, your company
and you're actually going to bid that opportunity
[387]
with help.
[388]
I'll give you the link down below.
[390]
It's feliciastreeter.com/bootcamp.
[393]
I will put it down in
[421]
the description.
