hi guys Kirk and Jay here with Kirk giordano聽
plastering, today I'm going to show you something聽聽

about counter flashing what's a Z flashing well聽
that's right here see that it's a Z you got a聽聽

bottom drip and the face and where it comes up it聽
goes on a foundation like so generally I place a聽聽

weep screed here if the plywood is level with聽
the foundation over here we got some issues I聽聽

got here a little while ago that's - dude where's聽
your drip or Y or Z flashing so they went out they聽聽

went out and picked this up right here now one聽
of the things was we have an inch and a half聽聽

right here and some areas we have a an inch what聽
you want to do is first thing I what I was doing聽聽

while he was going to get this Z flashing here聽
for this protruding foundation its existing so聽聽

sometimes what you look at I'm just taking these聽
little clinkers off the top here why do we clean聽聽

the top so that this Z flashing will set as level聽
as possible then what we do is we'll take the Z聽聽

flashing here because we got to protect this mud聽
seal if I were to put on a drip screen directly on聽聽

top of this mud seal which we can do we'd have聽
to put at least seven tubes of a polyurethane聽聽

caulking here and seated in that that's not the聽
way we want to do it the way we want to do it聽聽

is we put a z-plasty knot and the areas where it聽
doesn't protrude out the full inch and a half no聽聽

worries I'll show you what I'm talking about聽
okay I'm gonna overlap our existing one here聽聽

now you guys see me doing this and you're using聽
a gun or some safety glasses okay just for the聽聽
[106]
sake of I'm gonna pop a staple there and I'll pop聽
one over here and lastly over here right by you聽聽

Jay boom okay now while we have this Z flashing聽
here what I was telling the homeowners is we've聽聽

got to come out to the furthest right here we're聽
inch-and-a-half right here we're about an inch聽聽

and over there we're even less but in other聽
areas that comes out inch and a half so why聽聽

do we go with Incheon and a half on everything聽
because now it looks uniform we're gonna place聽聽

a drip screen or weep screed directly on this I'm聽
going to get it in a minute and show you what I'm聽聽

talking about there's always going to be somebody聽
who says hey what do you mean with a drip screen聽聽

okay so now that we got this on it what we're聽
going to do is we're going to take our paper聽聽

which I temporarily tacked up here and come down聽
now we're going to cover that like so and then聽聽

that's how you watertight it but getting back to聽
this this piece here here's what I was telling聽聽

the homeowner because this is not perfect here聽
and if somebody steps on it what it's going to聽聽

do is going to bend so you take some caulking or聽
some big stretch or some sealing foam expanding聽聽

foam you spray it under here the next day you come聽
back take a knife a trowel a utility knife putty聽聽

knife and just cut it off and that gives us a lot聽
of stability here so if you step on it it won't聽聽

bend it I'm gonna grab a web screen real quick聽
all right guys what we do is I put a 45 here I聽聽

also cut this weep screed here it's a weap screen聽
or a drip you call it either way you take it I'm聽聽

going to go underneath these steps I'm going to聽
go on top of this Zee flashing do I really need聽聽

to use this not really but what if the inspector聽
doesn't know you can call me back on it and for聽聽

the 50 bucks it takes me for the metal I don't聽
want to come back a second time so what I'm doing聽聽

is I'm going to counter theirs and what I like聽
to do is just leave an eighth of an inch under聽聽

why because if you leave an eighth of an inch聽
under the water can drip out if I go flat on聽聽

top of here that's okay too but what we're doing聽
is a three coach system we're going to be doing聽聽

the scratch coat the brown coat and the color聽
coat now they're design once this is once that聽聽

metals on this paper covers this right here and聽
if you have something like I just just cut it out聽聽

on the bottom find your metal you cut it out then聽
wire goes on top of here this system here this is聽聽

a flashing system it's a Zee flashing where the聽
weeps Crete or a drip screen on top to counter聽聽

each other I give it a eighth of an inch so聽
water if it does go through this stucco drips out聽聽
[284]
harmlessly onto this the flashing and it doesn't聽
compromise the mud seal that's really important聽聽
