Pocha Concha Tries Making A Rosca - YouTube
Channel: Pero Like
[0]
- I don't know what this is.
[1]
This is a nightmare.
[3]
Oh...
(sighs)
[5]
(upbeat music)
[11]
Hello, it's me, your local Pocha Concha,
[13]
back with another Pocha Concha Kitchen.
[15]
(upbeat latin music)
(Maya humming)
[17]
A show where I try to
make traditional dishes,
[20]
and the recipes are completely in Spanish.
[23]
As you can tell from
the title, I'm a Pocha.
[25]
I'm learning Spanish, and this is gonna be
[27]
a difficult struggle.
[29]
Today we are making rosca de reyes.
[35]
You hear my accent on that?
[38]
It's pretty freakin' good.
[40]
So, my family doesn't
celebrate Three King's Day,
[43]
but, funny thing is,
is we do eat the bread.
[46]
Because it's delicious.
[48]
So basically, it's this
beautiful, decorated bread,
[52]
and inside are plastic, either babies,
[55]
or like, baby Jesuses.
[57]
I mean, they're supposed
to be baby Jesuses.
[59]
So, all of these little
things are baby Jesuses.
[63]
We're gonna put this in the bread,
[65]
and whoever slices the
bread and gets a baby in it,
[69]
has to make the tamales
for another holiday.
[73]
I'm gonna have you guys do it at the end.
[75]
- [PA] Do what at the end?
[76]
- Cut into the bread.
[78]
Okay, I just wanna note that this says,
[81]
(speaks Spanish)
[85]
Hmm, today's gonna be one of those days.
[87]
(speaks Spanish)
[100]
Anyway, let's get started.
[101]
This has a lot of ingredients.
[103]
Just for the topping, and
also for the actual bread.
[108]
And, as you guys saw in the
first Pocha Concha episode,
[111]
where I made concha's,
bread is very difficult,
[115]
because it can get very hard, very fast,
[118]
and I think I remember how to do it.
[120]
If not, I'm just gonna
watch a YouTube video,
[124]
let's be honest.
[125]
(speaks Spanish)
[132]
(Spanish reading gets sped up)
[145]
Okay, so I need to pour
some warm water in here
[150]
with some yeast.
[153]
Oh, lemme pour this out, sorry.
[158]
You know, the real bakers and chefs
[160]
have a napkin on their shoulder.
[163]
So, the water is heating up a little bit.
[165]
(speaking Spanish)
[168]
Lukewarm water.
[170]
A boop.
[170]
A sprinkling with yeast!
[173]
Get it?
[174]
Yeast.
[175]
So now I stir oh I have to
stir in a half a cup of flour.
[180]
(buzzer)
[181]
I already messed up.
[183]
(laughs)
[183]
I was supposed to wait five to ten minutes
[185]
for just the foam to stand
up and then add the flour
[189]
and I just did it all.
[191]
Okay, take two.
[192]
(laughs hesitantly)
[193]
So we're gonna put the lukewarm water.
[196]
Now we're going to sprinkle some yeast.
[198]
No we're gonna do this.
[201]
And then we're gonna
wait five to ten minutes
[202]
until it's foamy and then add the flour.
[207]
Store it in a warm place.
[209]
So now that we're
waiting for that to rise,
[213]
we are going to make the other mixture.
[215]
(speaking Spanish)
[228]
Did I pass my Spanish speaking test?
[230]
No?
[232]
Okay.
[232]
So now we are going to put this mixture
[236]
into the yeast mixture that we made
[238]
and this part is where
the kneading comes in.
[242]
I need to place this on a
lightly floured section.
[245]
Something's wrong.
[247]
Oh.
[249]
I didn't put enough yeast.
[251]
It's a little more mushy
than I wanted it to be.
[255]
This is a nightmare.
[263]
There we go.
[264]
That's dough.
[266]
Butter this bowl.
[268]
Everybody likes their
bowl buttered, right?
[271]
So now we're gonna let this set
for about an hour and a half
[275]
'cause it's gonna rise,
[276]
and then we're gonna make
it into a little circle,
[279]
and then we're gonna bake it.
[281]
(speaking Spanish)
[291]
375
[293]
(speaking Spanish)
[294]
I don't know how to say 375.
[295]
- [PA] (speaking Spanish)
[297]
- Wow!
[299]
(speaking Spanish)
[302]
- [PA] Cinco.
[302]
- Cinco.
[303]
So I took the dough and I kneaded it more
[305]
and then I put it on this greased pan
[308]
and I put a little hole in the middle
[310]
so that it can spread out
[312]
and now we're gonna decorate
it with some egg wash
[314]
to make it shiny
[315]
and then we're gonna put
[317]
some of the little
striped sugar parts on it
[320]
and then decorate it with
some cranberries and apricots.
[325]
Listen, I don't have a brush
to brush on the egg wash,
[329]
so I'm just gonna kind
of use this little thing
[334]
so it gets golden brown.
[336]
So this part that I'm doing
[337]
is going to be kind of a sugar topping.
[340]
Almost similar to the same texture
[343]
of the sugar topping on a concha.
[346]
Just gonna sprinkle some.
[347]
Yum, we love cranberries.
[350]
Now we're gonna put it in
the oven for ten minutes.
[357]
Here it is!
[361]
I think I put on a little too
much of this sugar topping,
[364]
'cause it did bleed into everything.
[365]
If I just put like four
it would look better.
[370]
Okay.
[371]
It's a bread though!
[372]
I think I did it!
[374]
I really think I did it.
[375]
So I'm just gonna taste
the little bread part
[378]
that I cut off.
[379]
It actually looks like it,
[381]
if I left it in longer it
would have been burned.
[387]
It's hot.
[388]
Mhm!
[389]
It's a bread!
[390]
I did it!
[392]
So basically you put in
the babies underneath
[395]
when it's cooled down,
[396]
but you guys aren't gonna see that
[397]
and you guys aren't gonna see that.
[400]
Flip this over.
[402]
I'm gonna put the babies everywhere.
[407]
Almost ready.
[408]
Thank you for being patient, everyone.
[410]
Okay!
[411]
It ready.
[412]
- [PA] Ready?
[413]
- So, you guys have
been helping me all day.
[416]
Now I want you, yeah, just cut a piece.
[420]
Okay, and then cut another
piece, yeah there you go.
[423]
(speaks quietly)
[424]
- [PA] Oh!
[425]
What is that?
[426]
- [Maya] You got it?
[427]
(laughter)
[428]
You got the baby.
[430]
Now you cut.
[431]
- First try!
[432]
- You have to give me presents.
[434]
- Yeah, I have to give you presents.
[435]
- Yeah.
[436]
- Oh, me too!
[438]
(laughs)
[439]
- Wow!
[440]
Double.
[440]
- How many are there?
[441]
- Here.
[442]
Hold it up.
[443]
- Hold it up.
[446]
- Look at us.
[447]
Lo hicimos!
[449]
This was definitely difficult
because of the bread aspect
[452]
and you have to knead it and everything
[454]
and I legit got the recipe
wrong and had to start over.
[458]
So, it was a labor of love.
[462]
Anyway, thank you guys
so much for watching.
[464]
Let me know in the comments below,
[465]
what you want me to make next.
[466]
Okay, bye!
[467]
(upbeat music)
[485]
- [Child] Pero Like.
