[4]
really overwhelmed right now don't worry

i was in your shoes at 1.2 today i'm
[8]
gonna clear any confusion and i'm going
[10]

[12]
five best online english teaching
[14]
companies for beginners
[15]
with the highest pay if you're looking

[20]
whether that's full-time or part-time
[22]
these online teaching gigs are for you
[24]
now all the companies i'm talking about
[26]
today are where you'll be teaching
[28]
chinese students but a question i get
[29]
asked a lot and i want to answer is that
[31]
no you do not need to speak any chinese
[34]
to be able to work for these companies
[35]
they want
[36]
students to really immerse themselves in
[37]
english so all you need to know is
[39]
english
[39]
i'm going to do company overviews of the
[41]
top five companies and i'm going to
[42]
share about the classes curriculum
[45]
bookings pay requirements and then also
[47]
end with some cons because i think it's
[48]
always important to know some of the
[50]
cons as well
[50]
and be sure to stay to the end because
[52]
i'm going to share a really helpful
[54]
i don't know if it's a warning or piece
[56]
of advice for new online english
[57]
teachers that's really important for you
[59]
to know
[59]
as an independent contractor teacher and
[62]
if you are new to online teaching
[63]
be sure to join my ultimate guide to
[65]
online teacher freelance freedom
[70]
course
[72]
up i am so glad that you're here today
[73]
i'm danny and i'm an online teacher
[75]
entrepreneur and business coach
[77]
i help people build lives of freedom
[78]
through teaching online and also
[80]
building scalable teacher brands on
[81]
youtube
[82]
all right the online teaching job for
[84]
beginners the highest pay coming in at
[86]
number one
[87]
is go go kid i have had a contract with
[90]
gogokid for about two and a half years
[92]
now and i have
[93]
loved working with them it is by far my
[95]
favorite esl company
[96]
also esl stands for english as a second
[98]
language so if i say that throughout
[100]
this video that's what it means
[101]
interestingly enough gogokid is owned by
[103]
bike dance which is the same company
[105]
that owns tick tock
[106]
and it was started in 2018. classes with
[108]
gogokid are short and sweet they're only
[110]
25 minutes long and they're one-on-one
[112]
only one student at a time so it's
[113]
really
[114]
nice for new teachers a great thing
[116]
about gogokid is that the curriculum is
[118]
all done for you and the curriculum is
[120]
really interactive and fun so all you
[122]
have to do is review the class
[123]
beforehand and then you teach slides
[124]
you don't have to worry about creating
[126]
any curriculum yourself google kid pay
[128]
is generally higher than a lot of online
[130]
english companies that i've found their
[132]
pay is anywhere between
[133]
14 to 25 an hour depending on bonuses
[136]
i personally make 23 dollars an hour
[138]
with gogokid and if you want a
[140]
further breakdown of google kid pay you
[142]
can check out this video
[143]
now bookings with gogokid there are no
[145]
minimum or maximum hours which is really
[146]
awesome
[147]
generally the peak times to teach our
[149]
beijing evening so if you're in the
[150]
states that's usually early mornings
[152]
the company doesn't book for you parents
[154]
book for you so you do need a strong
[156]
profile so i highly recommend getting
[158]
the help of a referral that will help
[159]
you set up your profile i do help all my
[161]
referrals with some profile tips so if
[163]
you would like to work with me
[164]
throughout the application process that
[165]
is something that i provide right now
[166]
gogokid is actually having a 300
[169]
new teacher incentive so they really
[171]
need more teachers bookings have been
[172]
pretty hot so
[173]
it's a great company to get in on and if
[175]
you want more info on the 300
[177]
bonus you can read more about that here
[179]
i've been helping applicants work for
[180]
gogokid for about two years now and i've
[182]
helped a lot of newbie teachers who've
[183]
never taught esl online before or never
[185]
even taught before
[186]
work for gogokid and really excel and so
[188]
along with that reason and then the pay
[190]
and hot bookings are why i have picked
[193]
it as the number one company for new
[194]
teachers now what are the cons with
[196]
gogokid obviously there's always cons to
[198]
every company that you work for
[199]
i think the biggest comment gogokid is
[201]
that they are really
[202]
strict about cancellations so if you
[205]
have to cancel within
[206]
you know 24 hours of the class you are
[208]
penalized and that kind of stinks you
[209]
need to make sure you have to document
[210]
the reasons why you have to cancel
[212]
classes so that's the main con also
[214]
sometimes it can feel a little bit
[215]
difficult for teachers to get in contact
[217]
with home office
[218]
so those are the cons i still think it's
[220]
definitely a company worth working for
[222]
now what are the requirements to teach
[224]
for gogokid well you need to be eligible
[226]
to work in the usa or canada without a
[227]
visa but that does not mean that you
[229]
need to be living in the us or canada i
[231]
actually got the job with gogokid when i
[233]
was living in vietnam you also need at
[234]
least a bachelor's degree and that can
[236]
mean anything my bachelor's degree is in
[238]
history so it doesn't have to be in
[239]
education
[240]
you do need some experience working with
[241]
kids but that can be something even
[243]
informal like babysitting
[244]
and lastly with every single company i'm
[247]
going to talk about today you are going
[248]
to need an esl certification
[250]
china recently passed a law that all
[252]
english teachers need an esl
[253]
certification so that is a tesla
[255]
tefl or celta i have a tesl and if you'd
[258]
like a link to a 19
[260]
tesla certification it's 120 hours and
[263]
it honestly i finished it in like a half
[265]
a day and i use it for
[266]
go gogokid magic ears and vipkid i
[269]
highly recommend it you can find that
[270]
linked above
[271]
the next english teaching job for
[273]
beginners with high pay is vipkid i
[275]
think vipkid is one of the best known
[277]
online english teaching companies
[278]
because in 2020 glassdoor rated it as
[281]
one of the number one companies to work
[282]
for
[283]
so it's gotten a lot of press and
[284]
they've got about a hundred thousand
[286]
teachers it's a big company
[288]
vipkid is very similar to gogokid i also
[290]
have a contract with vipkid i've been
[292]
working with them for like
[293]
four years now almost i don't really
[295]
open hours with them at all anymore but
[297]
again i'll talk about that at the end
[299]
with that kind of warning for new
[301]
teachers and job stability so i'll cover
[303]
that in a second i started working with
[304]
vipkid when i was traveling all over
[306]
southeast asia building a company i
[307]
needed income or i could work from
[309]
anywhere and i found vipkid
[311]
but let's talk about vipkid classes like
[313]
gogokid
[314]
classes are 25 minutes long and one on
[317]
one the curriculum
[318]
as well is already all done for you it's
[320]
a little less interactive than gogokids
[322]
which i guess kind of means i think that
[323]
vip curriculum is
[325]
like a little more boring than gogokids
[327]
i guess but it's still
[328]
already all done for you so it makes it
[330]
one of the easiest jobs in the world
[331]
because i have to do
[332]
is look at the slides before and then
[334]
you teach it the pay with vipkid is
[336]
decent it's a little less than
[337]
gogo kid you can make anywhere from 14
[340]
to 22 dollars an hour with vipkid i
[342]
don't really open hours with vipkid
[344]
anymore like i said most of my hours go
[345]
to gogokid but when i do i make about
[348]
19 an hour so for me i make a decent
[350]
amount more with gogokid bookings for
[352]
vipkid are again
[353]
like go go kids where parents book you
[355]
the company doesn't book for you so
[357]
again there's no minimum or maximum
[359]
hours
[359]
i have talked to some of my online
[361]
teacher friends on instagram
[362]
if you become an online teacher i highly
[364]
recommend getting an online teacher
[365]
instagram
[366]
and adding me you can add a bunch of
[367]
other teachers it's like our way of
[368]
having co-workers almost i guess but
[370]
anyway i've been talking to some vipkid
[372]
teachers and they've been saying that
[373]
bookings have been a little bit lower
[375]
with vip kids so
[376]
that's just kind of a warning there know
[378]
that when you do get the job vipkid will
[380]
push your profile as a new teacher which
[381]
is great to help
[382]
you get in the eyes of more parents but
[384]
it will probably take you about a month
[386]
or two to really build up a following of
[387]
regular students
[389]
something cool though about vipkid is
[390]
you are able to pick the age range of
[392]
students you want to work with which you
[393]
can't do with most other companies
[395]
so if you just want to work with younger
[396]
students who can or if you just want to
[397]
work with older students you can do that
[399]
too
[399]
some cons with vipkid are like gogokid
[402]
they have a very strict cancellation
[404]
policy which i think kind of stinks
[405]
and you can sort of feel like a number
[407]
because there are like over a hundred
[409]
thousand teachers
[410]
so it doesn't feel like you can speak
[413]
again to home office that easily
[415]
requirements with vipkid are the same as
[417]
google kid you need some experience
[419]
working
[419]
with kids you need a bachelor's degree
[421]
that could be in anything you need to be
[423]
eligible to work in the u.s or canada
[424]
without a visa
[426]
and then you need that esl certification
[428]
tesla tefl or celta
[430]
the next top online english teaching
[432]
company with high pay is
[433]
magic gears now magic ears is an awesome
[436]
very high energy company and you can
[439]
make more money to make up to 26
[441]
an hour but the caveat to that is you
[444]
may be teaching up to four students at a
[446]
time
[446]
i just recently actually applied to
[448]
magic years and got the job so if you
[449]
want to see my actual footage of the
[451]
interview you can check out this video
[453]
but anyway it's a very high energy
[455]
company like i said
[456]
let's talk a little bit about it the
[458]
classes are short and sweet 25 minutes
[460]
long
[460]
but you have up to four students at a
[462]
time the curriculum
[463]
is all made for you and it's really
[465]
interactive the pay is also quite good
[467]
you can make anywhere from
[468]
15 to 26 dollars an hour depending on
[470]
bonuses
[471]
in terms of bookings with magic ears
[473]
unlike vipkid and gogokid
[475]
magic gears books for you so if you
[477]
don't want to worry about you know
[479]
waiting to build up regulars it's kind
[480]
of nice about magic ears that they do
[482]
the bookings for you and also they have
[484]
a much more relaxed cancellation policy
[486]
with classes you're allowed up to four
[488]
cancellations a
[489]
month no questions asked matcha gears
[491]
recommends a minimum
[492]
of five hours of classes a week but
[494]
there are no minimum hours required
[496]
some kinds of magic years are that you
[498]
are teaching up to four students at a
[499]
time so in my mind
[501]
i think that's a little overwhelming for
[502]
a beginning teacher i know i was really
[504]
overwhelmed by it at first i
[506]
started teaching for another company
[507]
called out school it's not an english
[509]
teaching company it's more like any type
[511]
of curriculum
[512]
and i then started teaching up to nine
[514]
students with that company and then i
[515]
was like okay
[516]
i can actually teach multiple students
[517]
at a time i can try out match gears but
[519]
before it scared me
[520]
so if you're a scary cat like me then
[521]
start with maybe a one-on-one company
[523]
but if you're like no
[524]
i got this i've if you're a brick and
[525]
mortar teacher then magic ears may be a
[527]
go
[528]
i think that's the main con with magic
[529]
ears and also they can be a little bit
[531]
more
[532]
i don't want to say micro managing but
[534]
they definitely look at your classes a
[535]
bit more than companies like vipkid and
[537]
gogokid and the other ones i'll talk
[538]
about so
[539]
they'll give you a lot of helpful
[540]
feedback if that's something you're
[541]
interested in getting
[542]
then that's great for me where i like to
[544]
just kind of do my own thing
[546]
and not have to worry uh i prefer that
[549]
but it's up to you
[550]
so those are my cons with magic ears
[553]
what are the requirements for magic ears
[554]
well number one is that you are very
[556]
passionate like i said
[557]
they want teachers that have really high
[559]
energy so if you don't have high energy
[560]
it might not be the company for you
[562]
they really stress that you need to
[564]
speak at an idiomatic
[566]
level which is like a native english
[568]
speaker level and you must be from the
[570]
us
[570]
canada uk australia new zealand or south
[573]
africa
[574]
you must hold a bachelor's degree or
[576]
higher and you can also be getting your
[578]
bachelor's degree and still get the job
[579]
with magic years which is really cool
[581]
i've actually met a teacher still in the
[582]
process of getting her bachelor's degree
[583]
but she's able to work for magic years
[585]
and lastly like all these companies you
[588]
need an esl certification
[590]
the next top online english teaching
[591]
company for beginners with high pay
[593]
is palfish now palfish is super cool
[595]
because it's actually an
[596]
app on your phone so you teach it like
[598]
on your iphone or on an android and
[600]
there's two
[601]
ways you can teach for palfish there's
[602]
powerfish free talk where you like just
[604]
have conversations about
[606]
anything usually it's more with adults
[607]
and then there's their palfish official
[609]
kids course and that's where you can
[611]
make more the money and that's what i'm
[612]
going to talk about right now
[613]
so with the palfish official kids course
[615]
classes are one on one and 25 minutes
[617]
long and the curriculum is
[619]
all done for you pay is anywhere from 16
[621]
to 22
[622]
an hour and for bookings you are in
[623]
control of when you open your hours
[625]
again those peak times are going to be
[626]
evenings beijing time
[627]
and with palfish though there are a
[629]
minimum required amount of hours and
[631]
that's three and a half hours
[632]
a week i'm actually not currently a
[634]
palpha teacher and so i was talking with
[635]
some palfish teachers and they said that
[637]
the
[638]
three and a half hours a week is kind of
[639]
flexible like that's not really strictly
[641]
enforced so if you are a polish teacher
[643]
let me know if that's true in the
[644]
comments below is it strictly enforced
[646]
or not
[647]
because i don't know the cons to working
[649]
with palpitations are that the pay is a
[650]
little bit
[651]
lower than some other companies and they
[653]
do have those minimum required hours
[655]
for me i like to have no minimum or
[657]
maximum hours because i like to just
[658]
kind of do my own thing
[659]
that's why i love teaching english
[661]
online but i do think it's so cool that
[662]
all you need is a phone to teach
[664]
that's pretty cool it's an app that's so
[667]
crazy
[667]
anyway the requirements to teach with
[669]
palfish are oop you do not need a degree
[671]
so that's awesome
[672]
you need a smartphone you need to have
[674]
some experience teaching kids you need
[676]
to be a native english speaker
[677]
so that means you can be from the us uk
[680]
canada australia ireland
[682]
new zealand and have a neutral accent
[684]
and lastly again
[686]
you need that esl certification now the
[688]
last esl company for beginners with high
[690]
pay
[690]
is q kids i do not personally work for q
[693]
kids but i have other future friends who
[695]
love working for q kids and so i wanted
[697]
to add it to the list
[698]
classes are 30 minutes long with cute
[700]
kids and up to
[701]
four students per class the curriculum
[704]
is all done for you
[705]
and the pay is anywhere from 16 to 20 an
[707]
hour
[708]
bookings are like magic years where the
[710]
company actually books for you which is
[711]
really nice so you don't have to worry
[712]
about building up a pool of students
[714]
q kids does though have a minimum
[717]
commitment
[718]
of six hours per week to work with them
[720]
i'm not sure how strict they are so
[722]
if you're a cute kids teacher let me
[724]
know some of the consticute kids
[726]
i think are again like magic ears you're
[728]
teaching up to four students
[729]
at a time so if that overwhelms you as a
[730]
new teacher it may be better to look at
[732]
one-on-one companies
[734]
and also the pays a little bit less than
[736]
the other companies i have mentioned you
[737]
make up to 20
[738]
an hour so if you're trying to decide
[740]
between like cute kids and magic ears i
[742]
would go for magic ears maybe because
[744]
the pay is higher what are the
[745]
requirements to teach for q kids well
[747]
you need to legally be eligible to work
[749]
in the us or canada you need a
[750]
bachelor's degree
[751]
and you need that esl certification okay
[754]
so now let's get into that warning that
[755]
i said i would share that all new
[757]
teachers really need to know as
[758]
independent contractors and that is
[760]
that policies are always changing and so
[763]
what does that mean
[764]
that means that for example i used to
[767]
make more like 24
[768]
an hour with gogokid and now i make more
[771]
like 23
[772]
an hour with gogokid why because gogokid
[775]
decided to change their
[776]
pay structure all of a sudden and i
[778]
couldn't do anything about it as an
[779]
independent contractor companies can
[781]
decide to change policies
[782]
like this and we can't really do
[784]
anything so with that in mind knowing
[787]
that things always change
[788]
you want to have backup companies i
[790]
would say 98
[791]
of my teacher friends work for more than
[793]
one online esl company
[794]
i have contracts with about almost four
[797]
companies i'm adding on magic years this
[799]
week so
[800]
with four companies three and a half
[801]
that doesn't mean i teach for all those
[803]
companies all the time but it does mean
[804]
that i have backup so if something
[806]
happens with this company i can
[807]
immediately open
[808]
hours for the next company it really
[810]
increases your job stability so what i
[812]
recommend if you're a new teacher is
[814]
to pick one company and apply get the
[816]
job and really get it down pat
[818]
work for that company for a month to
[819]
three months once you're feeling
[821]
comfortable with it
[822]
then add on another company and that
[824]
doesn't mean you even have to open a lot
[825]
of hours with that new company
[827]
but then at least you have that backup
[828]
if something changes with this company
[830]
right away you can turn around and you
[831]
have another company that you can then
[833]
open hours with and be making money with
[835]
all right so i hope that that's really
[836]
