[1]
Hello friends! Welcome to the channel
[4]
We were on the chapter financial mathematics
[7]
and today we will learn about Log and Anti log
[12]
It is very important to learn log and anti-log
[16]
as it makes the calculations very easy
[20]
Firstly, we will start with Log and log table
[24]
I will show you the log table
[27]
This is log table
[30]
With the help of log table we have to find the value of log
[33]
Let’s understand how to see log table
[38]
First point is, in log we can see values up to 4 digits
[46]
Let’s take an example
[51]
Suppose we are given log 1234 and we have to find its value
[61]
The first thing we have to understand is to check how many digits are given in the question
[68]
Maximum digits can only be 4 and here in the question also 4 digits are given
[74]
First we have to count the total digits given and subtract 1 from it
[83]
So 4 – 1 would be 3
[85]
Then put a point after it
[88]
After that we will write the answer
[99]
Let’s see how to write the answer
[102]
We are given 1,2,3 and 4
[111]
We will check the starting two digits in the Main column
[123]
Third digit in the difference column
[132]
And fourth digit in the mean difference
[145]
I will show these columns in the log table
[151]
This is log table
[153]
The first column where two digits are written is known as Main column
[159]
The next column starting from 0 to 9 is called as differences column
[167]
And the last column from 1 to 9 is called as mean differences column
[173]
Understood ?
[175]
first one is Main , From 0 to 9 Differences
[179]
And From1 to 9 , Mean Differences
[181]
Now we have to find the value of 1234
[186]
I have already told you to see the starting two digits in the mean column
[192]
And the third digit in the differences column
[196]
Let’s see 12 on 3 in the log table
[203]
In the first column it is written 12
[204]
We will see 12 in the third column
[210]
We got 0899
[219]
0899
[224]
So we have used three digits till now
[227]
Now we will use the last digit i.e., 4
[233]
We will check 12 on 4 in the mean difference column
[240]
Let’s check in the log table
[242]
This is mean difference column
[244]
We will check 12 in the 4th column whose value is 14
[251]
Now we will add 14 to 0899
[255]
We got 0913
[266]
Now we will write this value here
[269]
We got 3.0913
[273]
So the value of log 1234 is 3.0913
[281]
Let’s take one more example
[284]
Lets See the Different Cases
[287]
So we have already solved log 1234 whose value is 3.0913
[297]
Here we got 3 as there are four digits so 4-1 = 3
[305]
Then we checked 12 on 3 in the log table and then 12 on 4
[309]
Then we added them up and got the answer
[312]
Now let’s take another case
[314]
Log 123.4
[318]
I have already told to count the total digits and subtract 1 from it
[322]
We have to check the digits before point
[325]
Here we did not have a point which means point is after 4
[331]
Now we will count the digits for log 123.4
[334]
Here point is after 3 which means we have 3 digits
[337]
So 3-1 = 2
[341]
Put a point after 2
[343]
Now we have to follow the same procedure
[345]
Now we will check 12 on 3 and then 12 on 4
[347]
We got the answer as 2.0913
[352]
Now if we consider the next case log 12.34
[355]
There are only two digits before point
[358]
So 2-1 = 1
[360]
We got 1.0913
[364]
Here, we saw that the values are not changing after point
[368]
Only the digit which is prior to the point is changing
[371]
Now in case of log 1.234
[376]
There is only one digit before a point
[379]
So 1-1 = 0
[382]
We got 0.0913
[386]
In the next case log 0.1234
[388]
We do not have any digit before point
[392]
So, 0-1 = -1
[396]
We got -1.0913
[403]
This is the method to use log table
[406]
First, we have to subtract 1 from the total digits given
[412]
Then we will check starting two digits in the main column
[417]
Third digit in the differences column
[420]
And the fourth digit in the mean difference column
[423]
After adding them, write their value
[427]
Let’s take some more cases
[432]
Now we have Log 152
[436]
Here we have only three digits
[438]
So, 3-1 =2
[442]
Put a point after 2
[446]
Now check 15 on 2
[449]
This is 15 in the main column
[452]
and 2 is in the Differences
[457]
This is 15 in the main column
[463]
We got 1818
[466]
We will write the value here
[469]
The answer is 2.1818
[477]
Now let’s see for log 1.52
[483]
The answer is 0.1818
[491]
Because the digit before point is 1
[493]
So 1-1 = 0
[495]
The answer is 0.1818
[499]
Now suppose we are given log 46
[508]
Now we will calculate its value
[510]
Here we have only two digits
[514]
So 2-1 = 1
[518]
so our answer will be 1 point something
[521]
Now how will we check it in the log table?
[524]
We will simply see 46 on 0
[532]
as we can add as many zeroes as we want after decimal it won't affect the value
[538]
We will simply see 46 on 0
[541]
We got 6628
[551]
So the answer is 1.6628
[557]
Let’s take one last case
[560]
if we have
[562]
Log 4
[565]
Log 4
[567]
want to try it yourself ?
[570]
Here, only one digit is given
[573]
So 1-1= 0
[576]
Now we will put .0 after 4 as we can add as many zeroes after putting a Decimal
[590]
But we need Maximum 4 or Minimum 3 Digits
[594]
We will put two zeroes after 4
[597]
we can use log table with these 3 digits
[600]
as we need only 2 digits for the main column
[603]
and 3rd digit is for difference column
[606]
Now we will check 40 on 0 in the log table
[613]
We got 6021
[616]
So the answer is 0.6021
[620]
Okay then! I will give you a small recap again
[628]
so that you will never forget it
[630]
First of all, we can check values up to 4 digits
[639]
We will check starting two digits in the mean column
[645]
Third digit in the differences column
[648]
Fourth digit in the mean difference column
[651]
We will write the values after checking third digit at one place
[660]
Then the values obtained after checking the fourth digit will be written separately
[667]
And then add both the values
[670]
Then We will get the answer
[673]
So number of Digits minus 1
[676]
The value Put Decimal
[679]
Locate again the fourth digit in the Log Table
[684]
I hope you have understood log as it will be very
[686]
helpful in the upcoming questions
[689]
related to compound interest and annuity etc.
[698]
Today we have learned about log table
[701]
but it is also important to learn about the properties of log
[707]
Because both log table along with its properties are used to provide a solution for any question
[713]
We have covered Log Table in this Lecture
[716]
I will provide a link for log properties and you can easily understand it from there
[721]
In the next class we will discuss Anti- log
[724]
and only after understanding Log and Anti log We will be
[728]
capable of solving questions of FINANCIAL MATHEMATICS by applying these two.
