Top 20 NEW RPGs of 2022 - YouTube

Channel: gameranx

[1]
- [Speaker] 2022 looks to be filled with a bunch of RPGs.
[4]
So it already looks like wherever you play,
[7]
you'll end up getting something pretty good.
[9]
We've got 20 upcoming role playing games to highlight here.
[12]
Obviously, release dates are subject to change.
[15]
They very often do. Keep that in mind.
[17]
But we got a bunch of good stuff.
[19]
So let's get started off with number 20.
[21]
Little Devil Inside just looks awesome.
[24]
It looks like an incredibly fun adventure
[26]
set in a unique world, a unique hero, unique monsters.
[30]
And honestly, that's all we look for
[31]
in some role playing games.
[33]
This one is still a little bit mysterious as well.
[35]
It has been pushed and pushed,
[37]
and we've only got little glimpses of it,
[38]
and only so many details.
[40]
But just the atmosphere, the tone,
[43]
the sense of adventure, but like in a weird, creepy way.
[46]
Some of the action we have seen,
[48]
some of the exploration we have seen.
[49]
All of it looks really promising.
[51]
There's a real creative angle to this game.
[53]
You can probably tell just by looking at it.
[56]
We can't wait to get our hands on this one.
[58]
Next over at number 19, we have the new Fable game.
[61]
Now, this one is a little bit of spitballing
[63]
because we don't know if this is the year
[65]
we're finally going to see it.
[66]
But this Xbox developed game
[68]
should at least be revealed soon.
[71]
All we got was a quick teaser announcement,
[73]
and it's been quiet ever since.
[75]
But they've been working on this game for a long time.
[77]
It's from Playground Games,
[78]
the people behind the Forza Horizon series.
[80]
So while yes, they usually focus on racing games,
[84]
they're good at building interesting open worlds.
[86]
So we're really pumped.
[87]
The original Fable is one of my favorite games of all time.
[90]
As messy as it was,
[91]
there was something just so cool and charming about it.
[93]
Will the new game be able to replicate that? Who knows.
[96]
But for now, we're just gonna have to wait and see.
[98]
Next over at number 18, we have Dragon Age 4,
[101]
another one that has still been pretty quiet
[104]
on a lot of fronts.
[105]
But hopefully, this year is the year.
[107]
It's been in development for a really long time,
[109]
and reportedly, was originally intended to be
[111]
a live service game as a service type game
[114]
where it's always updated.
[115]
The game wants you to spend more money
[117]
endless questing, stuff like that.
[119]
Apparently they've went back to the drawing board
[121]
and are making this a more traditional RPG
[124]
like the previous games.
[125]
And honestly, we love to see that.
[127]
We do know there are some returning characters.
[129]
We've gotten some cool glimpses with little teasers
[131]
and lots of cool concept art and stuff like that.
[134]
But, really, details are pretty slight.
[137]
Die hard Dragon Age fans are still foaming at the mouth
[139]
for this one regardless,
[141]
so we're gonna go on their goodwill alone,
[142]
but this could be really cool.
[145]
Now, next over at number 17, we have another Xbox RPG
[148]
that we haven't heard too much about recently.
[150]
It's Avowed. This is the Obsidian RPG.
[154]
The teaser suggested some sort of Elder Scrolls style
[157]
traditional fantasy game.
[159]
But of course, being developed by Obsidian,
[161]
makers of some very good RPGs,
[163]
it just means it could be potentially really cool.
[166]
Again, there's not really too much to go on.
[168]
We got an initial teaser trailer.
[170]
So this might be the year we see it.
[171]
Who knows for sure.
[172]
We're being optimistic with some of these
[174]
early games on this list.
[175]
But as we move forward, more of the games
[177]
are a little bit more definite.
[179]
Because moving on over to number 16,
[180]
we have Hogwarts Legacy, the Harry Potter RPG.
[183]
Create your own wizard, go to Hogwarts and go on adventures.
[187]
Honestly, on paper, it sounds really awesome.
[189]
Like, what more could you want
[190]
if you're a Harry Potter fan, right?
[192]
This one has been leaked. It's been revealed.
[194]
It's been delayed and delayed and pushed.
[197]
And we're hoping 2022 is the year
[199]
because the potential is awesome.
[201]
There is still so much room to like, fill in the blanks
[203]
on Harry Potter lore, and really expand the Wizarding world
[207]
in new and exciting ways.
[209]
And a video game is really the perfect way to explore it.
[212]
Next, over at number 15, we have Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.
[215]
This is the Borderlands spinoff that is roughly based
[218]
on an old Borderlands DLC that was around
[220]
the quirky, Tiny Tina character
[223]
and her RPG fantasy stuff cooked up in her mind.
[226]
So what we have here is a new Borderlands adventure,
[228]
but set in any more fantasy style world.
[231]
It's like a Tiny Tina tabletop madness adventure.
[234]
And it seems really cool.
[235]
I mean, just look at the weapon types.
[237]
Look at the enemy types. Look at the world style.
[239]
Look at the way you navigate around the world
[240]
and just how everything is structured,
[242]
a little bit more old-school.
[243]
This has a lot of potential here.
[245]
Obviously, from the trailers and the gameplay we've seen,
[247]
it very much has that signature Borderlands humor,
[250]
love it or hate it.
[251]
But this one does look pretty intriguing, I'm not gonna lie.
[254]
I'm looking for like, a new, fresh spin
[256]
on the Borderlands thing, and this might be it.
[259]
Next over at number 14, we have Babylon's Fall.
[262]
This game is from Platinum Games,
[264]
the people behind so many incredible games,
[266]
like Bayonetta, which hopefully, we'll see that soon.
[269]
But Babylon's Fall, at first glance,
[271]
might not seem like much,
[272]
but you know these guys are kings at combat,
[275]
and that's what this game is really focusing on.
[276]
And it is billed specifically as a new
[280]
cooperative action RPG with you
[282]
and up to three other friends
[284]
kicking ass in this cool, weird fantasy sci-fi world.
[287]
It's got a bunch of different skills, ability types,
[289]
weapon types, ways to level up,
[291]
and just some of that RPG goodness,
[293]
with hopefully, that platinum tried and true combat.
[296]
This one does seem like it's releasing soon in the spring,
[298]
but we're hoping to see more beforehand,
[300]
just 'cause we'd like to know a little bit more
[302]
about what the deal is here.
[303]
Still, it's something worth keeping an eye on.
[306]
Now, next over at number 13, we have Palworld,
[309]
which I'll be honest,
[310]
this is a little bit more of a survival style game
[313]
with some RPG elements,
[314]
but we just really wanted to talk about it
[316]
because, I mean, look how insane this is.
[318]
This is essentially like a survival Harvest Moon,
[321]
build your own place, survive, craft type of thing
[325]
with all these quirky creatures that are, you know,
[327]
kind of Pokemon inspired that you can collect, and train,
[330]
and fight with, and battle.
[331]
But you can also engage in third person shooting,
[334]
and build factories, and have your little creatures
[336]
build new assault rifles for you.
[338]
This is so weird and quirky with a wild art style
[342]
that is all over the place.
[343]
We just managed to stumble across this one a while ago,
[345]
and we've been keeping an eye on it ever since,
[347]
just because it is so weird.
[348]
And it is slated for 2022.
[351]
Now, next over at number 12, we have ELEX II.
[354]
This is a sequel to a game we never thought
[356]
would really get a sequel.
[357]
Kind of like a weird lower budget action RPG
[360]
that was set in kind of like a sci-fi,
[362]
fantasy hybrid universe.
[364]
It was really distinct.
[365]
It was a very PC gamer style game.
[368]
But the people who spend a lot of time with it
[369]
had a lot of fun playing it.
[371]
It's kind of like a cult hit for a lot of people.
[373]
You could grow your character into a really cool,
[376]
interesting looking bad-ass.
[377]
And now it's getting a squeal.
[378]
ELEX II is, hopefully, continuing the same thing.
[382]
And it's releasing this year.
[384]
Now, next over at number 11, we have Lost Soul Aside,
[388]
which is kind of an action RPG project
[390]
that was once very indie, and more, really, a tech demo.
[393]
It's now blown into this fast paced action adventure RPG
[397]
with insane over the top combat and really cool graphics.
[401]
What we have seen,
[402]
the gameplay trailers and stuff like that,
[404]
all of it is incredibly impressive.
[406]
This is just one of those gorgeous,
[407]
awesome action bad-ass games.
[409]
And this one might maybe tide you over
[411]
until Black Myth: Wukong releases.
[413]
We've talked about that one quite a bit.
[415]
That seemingly isn't coming until 2023,
[417]
but you know, if you're looking to scratch a similar itch,
[419]
Lost Soul Aside seems like it might be it.
[421]
And hopefully, it finally releases this year
[424]
on PlayStation consoles.
[426]
Next over at number 10, we have Triangle Strategy,
[428]
which might sound like a weird boring board game
[430]
your grandpa used to play while drinking coffee, but no.
[433]
It's actually a pretty sick JRPG,
[436]
at least from what we've seen so far,
[437]
specifically because of the people behind it.
[440]
It has the lead producer
[442]
and seemingly a lot of the team members
[443]
behind Bravely Default, and of course, Octopath Traveler.
[447]
You might recognize some of the styles,
[449]
some of the inspiration here.
[450]
And this is releasing March, 2022.
[453]
Square Enix, you know,
[454]
for all of its faults with certain games,
[455]
they have been producing good, traditional RPGs, still.
[459]
We hope Triangle Strategy turns out good,
[460]
and continues that trend, and doesn't fly under the radar,
[463]
because Octopath Traveler was also pretty sweet.
[466]
Now, next over at number nine,
[467]
we have Pokemon Legends Arceus.
[470]
So this is the big one.
[472]
This is the one a lot of people have been hoping for.
[474]
A massive ambitious fully 3D open-world Pokemon game.
[478]
Even though we've gotten sort of that in the past,
[481]
this is the one that's seemingly blowing it all out.
[483]
You know, new Pokemon, a new version of a familiar region
[487]
because it takes place way far in the past.
[489]
It's almost like a Pokemon prequel
[491]
if you're looking for that type of thing.
[493]
And there's a lot of potential here.
[494]
Some people have decried the graphics and said
[496]
the game doesn't look good enough. It looks cheap.
[498]
Everybody comes to Pokemon games
[500]
for different things though.
[501]
Not everybody cares about the graphics.
[502]
My biggest concern, personally, is just that gameplay.
[505]
Is it gonna be good?
[506]
Is the exploration gonna be satisfying?
[508]
And how are they gonna shake up the battling?
[510]
Thankfully, we won't have to wait too much longer
[512]
because it's releasing in the end of January.
[514]
Now, next over at number eight,
[515]
we have Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin.
[519]
So this is actually like, a dark fantasy interpretation
[523]
of the original Final Fantasy game.
[525]
It's like a weird, crazy ambitious idea
[528]
with like, some action role playing combat.
[530]
And the game was memed to hell when it was first announced.
[533]
You know, the character, and chaos, and all that stuff.
[536]
But beneath that, it seems like a pretty cool, fun,
[539]
Final Fantasy adventure.
[540]
You know, for me personally,
[542]
Final Fantasy games rarely disappoint,
[544]
I mean, here and there.
[545]
And even though this one looks a little rough,
[547]
people seem to really appreciate the weird over the top
[550]
wacky demo that they released.
[552]
And it's a cool collaboration between
[553]
Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja, you know, with Square Enix.
[556]
So anything can really happen with this one.
[558]
I'm always into just new, weird Final Fantasy experiences.
[562]
So let's see how this one turns out.
[564]
Now, next over at number seven, speaking of Final Fantasy,
[567]
we have Final Fantasy 16, the real big one,
[570]
which most recently, it was confirmed that development
[573]
did slow down. It was affected due to the pandemic,
[575]
but we're going to be hearing more news on it
[578]
in the second half of the year.
[579]
Hopefully, this thing could squeak in
[581]
for the next holiday season, but we don't know for sure.
[583]
Still, the brief things we have seen so far
[586]
look pretty awesome.
[587]
There's a bit more of a focus on action,
[589]
but hopefully, it still doesn't lose sight
[591]
of its JRPG roots, of course.
[593]
Cool character designs,
[594]
an all new story in a world to jump into.
[596]
That's the beauty of these games. That's what we want.
[599]
And we're hoping this one lives up to the name.
[601]
Like I said, we're gonna be getting more info
[603]
on it soon, finally. So keep your eyes peeled.
[605]
We'll probably be talking about it in other videos.
[608]
Next over at number six, we have Forspoken,
[610]
another Square Enix action RPG adventure.
[614]
This time, set in an interesting world with a quirky
[617]
main character and an emphasis on mage like powers.
[620]
It almost looks like you move around
[621]
similar to an Infamous style game, but with cool magic.
[624]
There's a lot going on here,
[625]
and a lot of the people involved, the developers,
[627]
the writers, the actors, stuff like that,
[629]
everything is top tier.
[631]
But we're really curious to see
[632]
how this game comes together.
[634]
There have been more recent previews of the game,
[636]
from press, and YouTubers, and stuff,
[637]
and more gameplay has come out.
[639]
And you know, it looks like an absolutely gorgeous game,
[642]
but we just wonder how much fun it is going to be to play.
[644]
Still, the world looks interesting.
[645]
The story sounds interesting.
[647]
So we're gonna keep our fingers crossed for this one.
[650]
Next over at number five, we have Starfield.
[652]
This, of course, is Bethesda's next big thing.
[655]
Now, some people, after Fallout 76,
[657]
have completely written off Bethesda forever.
[659]
But for those of who have stuck around,
[661]
you know, we're getting a new thing.
[662]
We're getting something that they're making
[664]
that isn't Fallout or Elder Scrolls,
[666]
which that still just makes me excited
[668]
despite some missteps here and there.
[670]
There's a lot they can do here,
[671]
and we're really excited to see what comes of it.
[674]
A cool space exploration RPG.
[676]
We've had them in the past,
[678]
but we, hopefully, have never had one quite like this.
[680]
It's still early though.
[681]
All we got was like, one in engine cutscene,
[684]
trailer type thing.
[685]
We haven't seen gameplay yet.
[687]
We're probably gonna see more
[688]
in the second half of the year.
[689]
But this one's been a long time coming,
[691]
and we're excited to see where it goes, long story short.
[695]
Now, next over at number four,
[696]
we have the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2,
[699]
or whatever they're gonna call it.
[700]
So hopefully, we get this one this year.
[702]
The potential is huge.
[704]
The last Zelda game, you know, Breath of the Wild,
[707]
did have a lot of RPG elements,
[709]
and we expect this to continue that trend.
[711]
The story, or at least what is being teased here,
[714]
and how everything is shrouded in mystery
[716]
does seem really interesting, and absolutely has me hooked.
[719]
I cannot wait to see what the full deal is of this story.
[721]
How it connects to the Zelda lore,
[723]
how it connects to the original Breath of the Wild,
[725]
but also, how they're shaking up the gameplay,
[728]
how they're keeping that framework of Breath of the Wild,
[730]
but really blowing it out with new items, and new tricks,
[733]
new puzzles, new weapons, who knows?
[735]
The teasers we've gotten in the most recent trailer
[738]
do seem pretty exciting, I'm not gonna lie.
[740]
Hopefully this year
[741]
is where we get all our questions answered.
[744]
Now, down to number three, Dying Light 2 Stay Human.
[747]
Yes, we've talked about this one quite a bit.
[749]
Don't know how much more we can say
[751]
other than to keep it short.
[752]
We really liked the original Dying Light.
[754]
We liked its expansions
[756]
and we liked how much the game was supported.
[758]
We found it very consumer friendly in a lot of ways,
[760]
and we're hoping this new one can keep up that trend.
[762]
You know, it's got a lot of ambitious new ideas.
[764]
More parkour, a bigger world,
[767]
your choices really affecting the world around you.
[770]
We've heard so many games say that before,
[772]
but we're excited to see Dying Light's spin on that.
[774]
It's got more of a focus on melee weapons.
[776]
The world has broken down even more.
[778]
So there are less guns, less technology.
[780]
It's more medieval,
[781]
and hopefully, a lot more gory and action packed.
[783]
Thankfully, after so many delays,
[785]
it looks like we're finally gonna get our hands
[787]
on this thing February 4th, 2022.
[791]
Now, down to number two, we have Horizon Forbidden West,
[794]
which from what we've seen from like,
[796]
developer docs, and interviews, and stuff like that,
[798]
it seems like they're really doubling down
[800]
on the RPG aspects this time around.
[802]
More towns, more NPCs, more detailed questing,
[806]
more complex NPCs.
[807]
Stuff like that is what really has us intrigued.
[809]
The first game was really cool,
[811]
but this one could really knock it out of the park.
[813]
Obviously, the graphics are absolutely insane
[816]
from what we've seen.
[816]
The level of detail on the characters,
[818]
the level of detail on the creatures, the destruction,
[821]
the lighting, all of it is impressive,
[823]
but we're just really excited to see where the hell
[825]
Aloy's story is gonna go next.
[827]
They set up an interesting world here.
[829]
Now we're just really excited to see
[830]
how they can keep it going.
[832]
Now, down to number one, of course,
[834]
say it with me folks, Elden Ring.
[836]
This is for a lot of people,
[837]
the most anticipated RPG in quite some time
[840]
because it is FromSoftware's new game.
[842]
The people behind Dark Souls, Demon Souls, Bloodborne,
[845]
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
[847]
So with that comes expectations of something really cool.
[850]
From what we've seen, it does look pretty awesome.
[853]
It looks to take a lot of elements
[854]
they've learned from their previous games.
[856]
And taking that Souls Bourne formula
[858]
and flipping it on its head once again
[860]
in an open world setting,
[862]
but with a bit of a from soft take,
[863]
and how dungeons are laid out, and how the difficulty is.
[866]
The summons seem cool, the abilities seem cool,
[868]
the character building seems RPG as hell,
[871]
and good, and satisfying.
[872]
There's horses. There's crazier creatures in the open world.
[876]
The potential for greatness is really high,
[878]
and I'm not gonna lie,
[879]
people are letting themselves get hyped up about this one.
[882]
It seems like the skepticism is pretty low here.
[884]
If Elden Ring turns out to be as good as people are hoping,
[887]
and how people have said, you know,
[888]
the early access, and betas, and alphas,
[890]
and stuff of the game were, hoo,
[892]
buckle up for this one, man.
[893]
Those are the 2022 RPGs.
[895]
One last one we wanted to throw in as a bonus
[897]
that we couldn't fit, Marvel's Midnight Suns.
[900]
More of a strategy game,
[901]
but it's got some RPG elements,
[902]
and we're excited to see what comes of it
[903]
as comic book fans.
[905]
Oh, also, and one more, Lies Of P.
[907]
We've only got brief glimpses
[909]
of this kind of Souls like RPG, but it seems really awesome.
[914]
Is it going to make it in 2022? We're not quite sure.
[918]
We think it might squeak into 2023.
[920]
But still, it's really intriguing as a concept,
[923]
and we just wanted to mention it real quick.
[925]
Still, these are the RPGs worth keeping an eye on in 2022.
[928]
There might be more smaller RPGs out there though.
[931]
So if you've got any extras, let us know in the comments.
[933]
But of the 20, we mentioned also of those,
[936]
if you've got your own top five or your own top 10,
[938]
definitely let us know what you're excited to play the most.
[941]
Now, if you enjoyed this video,
[942]
maybe we turned you on to a game or two,
[944]
clicking the like button's all you got to do.
[945]
It really would help us out.
[947]
