What is a teardrop trailer? How much do they cost? How much do they weigh? Do they
[6]
have a bathroom? What do you need to tow it? And are they worth it?
[12]
Hi, I'm Randi and every Thursday I help weekend warriors make every moment count,
[17]
because weekends are just too short! Here are the top six answers to the most popular
[23]
questions people have about these small campers. Let's get started with question
[27]
number one. What is a teardrop camper?A teardrop camper also known as a teardrop
[34]
trailer is a streamlined compact lightweight travel trailer. And today
[40]
they come in all different sizes and have different amenities as you're about
[44]
to see. But they all have one thing in common and that is their curved teardrop
[51]
shaped profile. A teardrop camper has a raindrop shaped
[55]
exterior which makes it more aerodynamic so it can be pulled by a smaller vehicle.
[61]
I learned that teardrop campers were products of the Great Depression and the
[66]
first known specification for a teardrop shaped trailer was printed in a 1936
[73]
issue of Outdoor Life Magazine and the building plans cost 50 cents. Classic
[80]
teardrop trailers were designed to be the simplest form of camping after the
[84]
sleeping bag and tent. They are spacious enough to usually sleep two comfortably
[89]
and they typically have two side doors and a rear hatch that opens to reveal a
[95]
camp kitchen or pantry. Like all RVs classic teardrop trailers can range from
[101]
very basic to luxury high-end campers. Teardrop campus like the myPod made by
[108]
Xtreme Outdoors looks small, right? Well it's fascinating what amenities can be
[114]
packed in such tiny spaces. This trailer has a sleeping area for two, air
[120]
conditioning and an entertainment center. My camper the Little Guy Trailer is not
[126]
a classical teardrop due to its 18-foot length and
[130]
you can stand up in it. It's amazing what can be fitted in a teardrop camper of
[135]
this size. This trailer features a full queen-size bed a kitchen with a sink,
[141]
stove, refrigerator and microwave, air conditioning, heating plus a bathroom. I
[147]
love my teardrop camper. Do you think a teardrop camper fits your needs? Keep on
[152]
watching to learn more. Do teardrop campers have bathrooms? And the answer is
[159]
classical teardrop trailers do not have bathrooms. But as you just learned some
[165]
larger ones do. Having a bathroom was important to me. How important is having
[170]
a bathroom in your trailer to you? Let me know in the comment section below. What
[174]
is the weight of a teardrop camper? The weight of a teardrop trailer can range
[179]
from 600 pounds all the way up to over 3000 pounds.
[183]
For example, the myPod has a dry weight of 630 pounds and my Little Guy Max
[190]
trailer has a dry weight of 3140 pounds. One of the biggest advantages of
[196]
these light weight trailers is they are easier to tow than larger RVs which
[201]
leads into the next question. What can pull a teardrop trailer?Classic teardrop
[207]
trailers can usually be pulled by SUVs and some cars. Heavier teardrop trailers
[213]
will require a vehicle with greater towing capacity but all trailers must be
[219]
pulled by a vehicle that has the power and safety items necessary to tow it.
[225]
I found a helpful article about how to determine your vehicle's towing capacity
[230]
and I'm gonna leave a link to that in the video description below. Next up what
[235]
is the price of a teardrop camper? Pricing can vary greatly ranging from
[240]
$4000 all the way up to the mid $30K depending on length amenities and of
[245]
course quality. With that said teardrop campers usually cost much less than
[251]
other travel trailers or RVs. And this is probably the biggest question of all. Are
[257]
teardrop trailers worth it? My answer is YES especially if you have
[263]
a yearning to go to remote places and explore the outdoors like I do. If you
[268]
follow my youtube channel you know I love my Little Guy Max trailer. This
[273]
little camper has allowed me to experience all the fun of camping
[277]
without the hassles that come with tenting or driving a large RVs. And yes
[283]
there are many other advantages to owning a small camper. In fact I did a
[288]
full video on this and I'm gonna leave a link to that video right up here and in
[293]
the video description below. So be sure to watch that video next!
