[5]

[9]

[10]

[12]
channel and if you like this video
[14]
you can just leave me a little thumbs up
[16]
below now
[17]
today i want to talk about b corpse now
[20]
followers of better not stop will
[22]
already know that we've just become a
[24]
certified b
[25]
corp along with thousands of other
[27]
amazing businesses like patagonia
[29]
kickstarter etsy riverford organic and
[32]
puckerty
[33]
so i've also qualified as a b leader
[36]
with b
[37]
lab and they're the organization that
[39]
created an award the b
[40]
corp certification which means i have
[43]
been trained
[44]
to guide other businesses through the
[46]
process
[47]
but what is it and why is it important
[50]
for businesses to become b corp
[52]
certified
[53]
well the b stands for beneficial it
[56]
indicates that a business voluntarily
[58]
meets certain standards
[60]
of transparency accountability
[62]
sustainability and performance
[65]
they aim to create value for society not
[68]
just for traditional stakeholders
[70]
such as the shareholder now the free
[72]
assessment looks at all
[74]
areas of the business including how it
[76]
interacts with its workers
[77]
community customers and the environment
[80]
now if a business then scores
[82]
at least 80 points on this assessment
[85]
and is legally committed to the values
[87]
it can then apply to become b corp
[89]
certified
[91]
now you might be wondering i've used
[93]
quite a lot of buzzwords here so what
[95]
does
[95]
legally commit mean it means that the
[98]
business
[99]
has to update their official legal
[101]
company documents to show that they
[103]
value
[103]
people and the planet in an old business
[106]
model
[107]
businesses are legally required to act
[109]
in the interest of
[110]
shareholders and that usually means the
[112]
people that are making money from that
[114]
business
[115]
the people that own the business this
[118]
new business model
[119]
means businesses are legally required to
[121]
act in the interest of the stakeholders
[124]
now a stakeholder
[125]
is a member of a group without huge
[127]
support the organization would cease to
[129]
exist
[130]
like people and the like the planet and
[132]
the people in it
[134]
not just the shareholders of a business
[136]
so what bee labs does is it asks
[139]
businesses to commit to this new
[140]
business model by changing their legal
[142]
structure
[143]
and how they do that differs depending
[146]
on where in the world you are
[147]
in the uk for example when you start a
[150]
limited company you have to register it
[151]
with companies house
[153]
so to change the legal structure you
[155]
have to submit a new articles of
[157]
association to companies house
[159]
showing that your business is committed
[161]
to acting the interests
[162]
of its stakeholders as well as its
[165]
shareholders
[167]
once a business has done this and
[169]
completed the free assessment
[171]
and gets at least 80 points then they
[174]
are able to
[175]
then they are able to sign the b corp
[177]
declaration the interdependence
[179]
pay their certification fees and become
[182]
b corp certified
[184]
following that they can they then use
[187]
the b corp logo
[188]
and provide a yearly impact report they
[191]
also need to update their assessment
[193]
every three years to maintain their
[194]
certification
[196]
so you might be wondering after all that
[199]
why would a business go through it well
[202]
b corps
[203]
set a gold standard for businesses when
[206]
becoming a b
[206]
corp a business joins a community of
[209]
thousands of others
[210]
all over the world with the same values
[212]
and beliefs
[213]
it's a great way to build with
[215]
relationships with clients
[217]
and suppliers and other business leaders
[219]
in your industry
[221]
it also helps businesses and business
[223]
owners look at how they can improve
[226]
their impact whether that's providing
[228]
better employee benefits
[230]
using more sustainable materials or even
[232]
trying to attract the right investors to
[234]
help you grow your company
[236]
becoming b-corp certified also helps
[239]
engage
[240]
attract and retain great talent in a
[242]
business
[244]
more and more people are making a
[246]
decision on where to work based on how
[248]
they're going to be treated at work
[249]
and what positive impact their work will
[251]
have in fact a recent survey by deloitte
[255]
showed that 77
[256]
of gen z will choose an organization to
[259]
work for
[260]
based on the values it has now if that
[263]
hasn't convinced you i want to drop some
[265]
facts from a recent survey by the
[266]
innovation group
[268]
they surveyed 10 000 people across the
[271]
uk
[272]
united states china and australia to
[274]
discover
[275]
what consumers are interested in when
[276]
they're buying products and services
[281]
92 percent of people were trying to be
[283]
more sustainable
[285]
and 90 of people felt it was the
[287]
responsibility
[288]
of businesses and brands to have take
[291]
care of the planet
[292]
and the people in it but 85 percent of
[295]
people
[296]
believe there's not enough information
[298]
on businesses to know how sustainable
[300]
they are
[300]
even though 83 of them would choose a
[304]
business with a better record of
[305]
sustainability
[307]
so b corp certification is a super easy
[310]
way
[311]
for people to see which businesses are
[313]
leading the way
[315]
what's even more interesting is 70
[318]
percent of people
[319]
would pay more for products or services
[322]
if they protect the environment or
[324]
don't infringe on human rights now when
[327]
we're talking about
[329]
customers convenience is absolutely key
[332]
here
[332]
if something isn't convenient it's going
[334]
to be very difficult to get people to do
[336]
it
[337]
so if businesses make it easy for people
[339]
to know quickly if they are a business
[341]
that cares about sustainability
[343]
it makes it easier for the customers to
[345]
choose your business
[348]
it also makes b corp certification makes
[350]
your business stand out
[352]
having the having the logo on your
[354]
product your website
[356]
sales materials or business cards
[358]
instantly
[359]
communicates your business values to
[361]
your customers
[363]
it empowers people to vote with their
[365]
money so it makes it really easy
[367]
for people to know that buying from you
[369]
is a credible way to support business
[371]
for good
[372]
so hopefully that explains what a b corp
[375]
certification is
[377]
what you need to do as a business and
[379]
why it makes sense to become certified
[381]
now just to confirm it's completely free
[385]
to fill out the b impact assessment and
[387]
see what your business score is
[389]
before you decide whether or not you
[391]
want to go ahead and apply
[393]
and in the uk it's completely free to
[396]
update your articles of association with
[398]
companies house
[399]
and change your legal structure if you
[401]
are successful then
[403]
it is only then that you pay the
[404]
certification fees
[406]
and become b corp certified now
[409]
most businesses do employ a b court
[412]
consultant or a b
[413]
leader like me to help them with the
[415]
process this
[417]
is to guide them through the process
[418]
completely and allows them to get the
[420]
most out of the certification
[423]
i can help create company policies
[425]
documents
[426]
training processes and systems that will
[429]
help improve your businesses
[431]
impact sustainability and your
[433]
assessment score
[434]
i can also advise on how you can share
[437]
that message with your customers
[438]
through marketing and pr support as well
[441]
as connect you with potential business
[443]
partnerships
[444]
it ensures your business gets the most
[446]
value out of the b corp certification
[449]
as possible i've also got expert
[452]
knowledge on all areas of the assessment
[454]
which includes sections on governance
[457]
workers
[458]
community impact environmental
[459]
stewardship and transparency
[462]
i completed my b corp consulting course
[464]
with ryan honeymoon
[465]
who literally wrote the handbook and
[468]
matt mayer from conscious brands
[470]
