what's going on everybody david here back with聽 another video so we're going to do a stimulus聽聽
[2]
package stimulus check update we have a few聽 things to talk about today we're going to talk聽聽
[6]
about how many people have received their stimulus聽 checks so far we're also going to talk about the聽聽
[12]
deadline date being extended for filing your聽 taxes i think that's important for many people聽聽
[18]
who are interested in that we saw last year they聽 extended it this year they did extend it as well聽聽
[23]
so we'll talk a little bit about that and then聽 i want to talk about the 200 race for social聽聽
[26]
security and biden's plan for social security聽 but first off you guys can do me a favor please聽聽
[31]
hit the like button it does help with the youtube聽 algorithm also please subscribe to the channel hit聽聽
[35]
that little bell notification that way you'll聽 get notified any time we put out a video okay聽聽
[39]
so the irs has indicated that 90 million people聽 have received their stimulus checks thus far and聽聽
[44]
that's more than half so we're looking at about聽 160 million people will receive stimulus checks聽聽
[50]
90 million people have already received them and聽 so it's just a matter of time hopefully within聽聽
[56]
the next two to three weeks everyone will receive聽 their stimulus check and they'll also be mailing聽聽
[59]
out paper checks as well as debit cards so make聽 sure you keep an eye out for those but now let's聽聽
[64]
talk about the tax filing extension looks like聽 the irs is extending your tax filing a date to聽聽
[70]
may 17th so it's going from april 15 to may 17th聽 and so that will allow you one more month to聽聽
[77]
file your taxes which i think is good and聽 i was anticipating this was going to happen聽聽
[81]
we saw it happen last year and聽 so they've made another extension聽聽
[86]
for those people who have not filed their taxes聽 yet so now let's talk about biden's plan for聽聽
[90]
social security and this is one of those things聽 where we we saw how important stimulus checks were聽聽
[97]
for the american people this is very important聽 for people who are retired very important and聽聽
[102]
so we need to talk about this and we're going to聽 need to continue talking about this so politicians聽聽
[107]
know that this is something that's not going to聽 go away because we've seen with hazard pay we聽聽
[113]
saw that whole situation where they talked about聽 it for a couple of months and then it was gone聽聽
[118]
and that you didn't hear anything else about it聽 so this is one of those things you need to keep聽聽
[123]
you need to keep it in the forefront you need聽 to keep talking about it and so i plan to聽聽
[127]
in the future continue talking about聽 the the plan for social security the 200聽聽
[134]
social security uh increase so make sure you聽 subscribe hit the little bell notification聽聽
[139]
that way you'll get the latest information when it聽 comes to this unfortunately we haven't heard much聽聽
[145]
in the last several months okay so that's part of聽 the reason why we need to keep talking about it聽聽
[152]
so politicians will get back to this topic so let聽 me let me show you this article now this article聽聽
[158]
was published back in december okay and this聽 is from motley fool okay so here are the key聽聽
[164]
points of this article in biden's plan okay聽 so the first thing that biden wants to do聽聽
[169]
is he wants to change the cola calculations okay聽 so currently what they're using is the consumer聽聽
[176]
price index for urban wage earners and clerical聽 workers okay the cpiw now the only problem with聽聽
[184]
this is this is for people who are working and if聽 you're retired retirees on average spend a higher聽聽
[191]
share of their income on medical and housing聽 costs both of which rise faster than inflation聽聽
[198]
this would mean that this consumer price index聽 would not be as accurate as if you were using聽聽
[203]
a different consumer price index and so that's聽 what the the biden administration wants to do聽聽
[208]
they want to change the price index and start聽 using the consumer price index for the elderly聽聽
[214]
okay now if you're using that price index聽 that would have equated to 0.2 percent聽聽
[221]
uh percentage points more as far as you would聽 receive a little bit more now i know you're saying聽聽
[227]
0.2 that's really not much at all we're talking聽 about the the cola for right now is 1.3 percent聽聽
[235]
it would have been 1.5 percent if you use the cpie聽 for elderly but over time over time compounded聽聽
[247]
that's where you start looking at a situation聽 where it does make sense and it will ultimately聽聽
[253]
benefit people on social security uh that much聽 more so that is the first thing that president聽聽
[258]
biden is focused on now another thing president聽 biden wants to focus on he wants a minimum benefit聽聽
[264]
if you work 30 years so if you work 30 years聽 biden wants the minimum benefit to be 125聽聽
[271]
of the federal poverty level okay so we're聽 looking at that that would equate to about聽聽
[278]
1329 and so if you work 30 years that's what聽 he wants as far as a plan when it comes to that聽聽
[287]
and then the percentages can go anywhere from five聽 to fifty percent and it's be it could be between聽聽
[295]
10 and 30 years okay so it doesn't have to be just聽 30 years but you can you can earn a percentage if聽聽
[300]
you work 10 years 20 years 30 years and so聽 that's what he's focused on when it comes to聽聽
[306]
receiving social security depending on how how聽 many years you've worked now another thing biden聽聽
[311]
is focused on higher benefits for people who have聽 been on social security for 20 years okay in the聽聽
[317]
way that they want to work this it's going to聽 cap out at five percent but it starts at 16聽聽
[324]
years so you start at 16 years you move up a聽 percentage each year so that 16th year you get one聽聽
[330]
percent the 17th year you get another percent the聽 18th year you get another percent the 19th year聽聽
[336]
you get another percent and then at the 20 year聽 you get that last percent that gives you the five聽聽
[342]
percent uh increase so if you've been on social聽 security for 20 years you get that extra five聽聽
[346]
percent and this is in addition to cola so this聽 is not uh replacing cola this would be an addition聽聽
[352]
too so that's something that's worth mentioning as聽 well now another thing that president biden wants聽聽
[357]
to do is he wants higher benefits for surviving聽 spouses so the current social security rules聽聽
[362]
allow widow spouses to collect either their own聽 benefit or 100 of their deceased spouse benefit聽聽
[368]
for couples receiving about the same amount that聽 means the death of a spouse can reduce income聽聽
[374]
by 50 and so what president biden wants to do聽 is he wants to allow you to choose and then give聽聽
[379]
you an additional 20 percent okay so raise it 20聽 percent and so that's that's his plan there and聽聽
[385]
this makes a lot of sense because when you look聽 at it your housing is not going to drop 50 percent聽聽
[390]
just because your spouse is is no longer there so聽 you're still going to have some of the same bills聽聽
[396]
and so if you give that increase that 20 increase聽 and you allow the personal social security聽聽
[403]
the survivor to choose which uh which social聽 security they would like to continue to keep聽聽
[409]
then that would at least help them out and you聽 have to understand some people on social security聽聽
[413]
are really struggling they're on a fixed income聽 so this is a portion of biden's plan what he wants聽聽
[418]
to do when it comes to social security he's also聽 talked about the 200 raise for social security and聽聽
[424]
this is what's catching a lot of attention and聽 this would be a monthly payment of additional 200聽聽
[430]
and this has not been talked about very often聽 in the last few months and that's unfortunate聽聽
[437]
but that's where we are right now we were hoping聽 that this would be in the current stimulus package聽聽
[442]
that we're looking at right now but it was not in聽 there now there could be reasons for that because聽聽
[447]
we're talking about a raise and this this stimulus聽 package was done through budget reconciliation and聽聽
[454]
we know when they were talking about the 15 hour聽 minimum wage the senate parliamentarian said no聽聽
[459]
they that's that's not allowed you can't do that聽 and it couldn't be challenged by by the senate聽聽
[464]
because they didn't have enough votes and so that聽 could be a reason why this wasn't even brought up聽聽
[471]
because this would be a raise just like a 15 an聽 hour minimum wage a raise so we'll have to see聽聽
[477]
what happens next with this and this could be one聽 of those situations where we could do a standalone聽聽
[481]
bill and have this 200 a dollar raise in there but聽 um this is something that we have to see what the聽聽
[490]
politicians want to do now this is not new this is聽 senator warren's plan she proposed this a year ago聽聽
[495]
so when it comes down to the this whole situation聽 this is something that can be implemented i mean聽聽
[502]
you have the people in place to make this happen聽 however you need to get the votes you need to get聽聽
[510]
people on board you need to get the senators聽 on board you need to get the house on board聽聽
[514]
to vote for something like this and so that's why聽 it's very important to keep this alive because聽聽
[518]
if you let it go these politicians will forget聽 about it and they'll move on to something else聽聽
[523]
now that we're passed the stimulus package now the聽 symbols package is done and people are starting to聽聽
[528]
receive their money now you need to start talking聽 about the next thing and the next thing i think聽聽
[533]
is going to be the 15 hour minimum wage as well聽 as the 200 raise for social security so i want聽聽
[538]
