In the not-so-distant future, the United States is in the midst of a second civil war between
[4]
the US army and the Free States of America, turning the island of Manhattan into a demilitarized
[9]
zone where they called a ceasefire.
[11]
This woman Alma Ortega is taking care of this other girl, and recalls a memory of evacuation
[15]
day.
[16]
Everyone is running towards the bus but when she turns around, her son Christian Ortega
[19]
is gone.
[20]
She searched both countries for him ever since, and believes he might be in Manhattan which
[24]
she hasn’t been able to get into until now.
[27]
She gets smuggled into the DMZ that night, but needs to return at 4 AM or she’s not
[31]
coming back.
[32]
Alma decides to start at the clinic where she used to work.
[34]
After helping out the nurse Rose, she gets her hands on the patient logs, but Rose tells
[38]
her she might have better luck with the traders.
[40]
On the way there, Alma gets mugged and she chases him into a hot zone.
[44]
He tries climbing the fence but gets electrocuted and she gets fired upon.
[48]
For whatever reason, Rose was slowly creeping forward so that she could get shot I guess,
[52]
so Alma takes her back to the clinic.
[53]
She makes her way over to Chinatown to tell you guys to subscribe for more content like
[57]
this, then takes a detour and ends up at the Tea House and meets her old friend Wilson.
[61]
He explains that he robbed a bank during the evacuation and built all of this, but no he
[66]
hasn’t seen her son.
[67]
She finally returns to the clinic that night but hears gunfire and finds out Rose was the
[71]
target.
[72]
Odi is a little kid who used to hang around Rose, and she pulls him aside to make him
[75]
that grilled cheese that he likes so much.
[77]
Alma makes it back to the rendezvous point just in time, and this guy starts talking
[81]
about Parco and his son Skel, and Alma gets flashbacks to her previous life before all
[85]
of this, with Parco and her son.
[87]
She turns around, but she doesn’t have a choice because US soldiers show up and chase
[91]
her back into the DMZ.
[93]
She paints a message on Skel’s public hitlist, and I guess the sun rises early in Manhattan
[97]
because at 4 AM its practically day time.
[100]
While all this was happening, there was a crazy party in Central Park.
[103]
Parco Delgado shows up to make a speech and welcomes 6 of the 8 major gangs.
[107]
He’s running for governor for the DMZ and promises to be the voice that unites them,
[110]
blah blah blah politics.
[112]
He later meets with one of the gangs called the 2-4 where their leader Jordan tells Parco
[116]
that they won’t support him in the election.
[118]
You see, Parco’s using gold to buy out support from the gangs, and the 2-4’s won’t have
[122]
that.
[123]
This angers him so he’s like fine, if you can walk out of here alive.
[126]
But he has to go through Skel, and he loses pretty badly to the young man, then he goes
[131]
you better back me now.
[132]
During a basketball game, Skel kills both men and leaves with 2 gold bars hidden in
[136]
the ground.
[137]
Shortly after, Susie informs Wilson that his gold is disappearing, suggesting there’s
[141]
a rat among his 3 men.
[143]
Alma returns to ask Wilson about Skel but he doesn’t tell her anything, and when she
[147]
mentions Oona, he turns around and gives her his address.
[150]
They finally come face to face, but he acts all tough and tells her that she didn’t
[154]
lose him, he ran away that day because Parco empowered him instead of trying to take that
[158]
away from him, then angrily forces her to leave.
[160]
After meeting with his pops and learning that several more groups are going to endorse him,
[164]
he makes his way to a bar where he’s mesmerized by the singer.
[167]
They introduce each other as Christian and Tenny and he takes her home.
[170]
Alma bumps into Odi and Nico who warns her the area ahead is full of cannibals, so Odi
[175]
leads her on a different path to Oona.
[177]
Alma introduces herself as Zee, a nickname given to her by Odi.
[181]
They go for a stroll in the garden where she reveals that she controls the water supply.
[185]
When this first started people were after guns and money, so she took the resource that
[189]
people needed to survive.
[190]
Zee does more talking and tries to convince her that she has a stake in this election,
[194]
in all of this.
[195]
Zee and Odi return to the clinic where he reveals that he knows Rose is dead, so Zee
[199]
lets him stay with her as they’ve grown quite close.
[202]
The debate between Parco and Wilson takes place that night and unfortunately, it ends
[206]
in a landslide victory for Parco.
[208]
But Oona appears and announces she’s giving her full support to Zee, who announces her
[212]
support for Wilson, and they wastefully unleash all the water.
[215]
Alma is summoned to Wilson and has a conversation with Susie about what she intends to do after
[220]
she finds her son.
[222]
Wilson then shows her to his torture chamber and tells the rat to arrange a meet with the
[225]
gold thief and shoots him.
[227]
Alma helps him after he gives her the name of the thief, Skel.
[230]
Alma goes to warn Skel that Wilson’s going to kill him, but he doesn’t answer the door.
[235]
He’s busy with Tenny who tells him that Wilson took her in when she was young and
[238]
treated her like his own daughter.
[240]
She runs over to Carmen, Parco’s partner, asking for Skel.
[244]
Carmen tells her that she looked after Skel and truly cares for him.
[247]
In the end she gives up Parco’s location and Alma makes her way over to the yards.
[250]
She sees Parco cutting deal with US soldiers who hand over supplies and guns, and she manages
[255]
to slip out.
[256]
She finally finds Christian and tries to warn him of what’s about to happen and tells
[260]
him of Parco’s deal with the US.
[261]
He doesn’t believe her and gets caught and escorted away.
[264]
When he was younger, he came home one day with a tattoo after spending the day with
[268]
his dad, but Alma called the cops on him for unregistered guns.
[271]
She took away the one person that let him be free and he was the one who went to save
[275]
Parco during evacuation day.
[277]
Word gets out that Wilson has Skel so both groups prepare for their eventual encounter.
[281]
They blast open the gate but since ammo is hard to come by, everybody starts punching
[285]
and slicing and stabbing while Parco and Wilson run inside.
[288]
A grenade severely weakens Wilson and Parco uses this to his advantage to beat up Wilson.
[293]
Skel finds his way inside and Parco wants him to prove his loyalty.
[296]
After some hesitation, he throws him out the window, but he doesn’t seem too sure of
[300]
himself.
[301]
Alma takes over for Wilson and meets with one of the FSA people, in clown shoes!
[305]
They both go for a stroll and in the end, they negotiate safe passage for her and her
[309]
son, but they want Susie in return.
[311]
Tenny leads Alma into a radio room where it is revealed that she’s the voice behind
[315]
the radio that we’ve been hearing all this time.
[317]
Despite Alma insisting she’s not going to stay, Tenny convinces her to convince the
[321]
others that there’s still hope.
[323]
Zee starts talking about peoples’ hands and announces that she will challenge Parco
[327]
in the election.
[328]
Parco finds Odi and Nico running around, and persuades him into believing FSA soldiers
[332]
are going to hurt Zee, and he can help change that by carrying a bomb to the entrance of
[336]
the FSA.
[337]
Zee finds Parco but he leaves with Odi, and Skel pops out of nowhere to save Zee and the
[341]
both of them track down Parco.
[343]
On the way there, Zee tells him Parco’s deal with the US is to bomb the entrance to
[347]
the FSA because the US is ready to invade.
[349]
Zee arrives in time and convinces them to run away and she disables the trigger just
[353]
in time before they get a chance to blow it.
[355]
Angry that his plan isn’t working, Parco goes down there to finish things himself but
[359]
doesn’t know that Christian is there.
[361]
His gun is empty and they resort to a fist fight.
[363]
He’s obviously no match for the young man and they take him to the US where they arrest
[367]
him.
[368]
Zee convinces Christian to leave with her but she stops at the entrance.
[371]
She tells him to go with Tenny because there is a greater calling for her and returns to
[375]
her people in the DMZ.
[376]
Odi takes over as radio host and announces through the radio that Zee has won the election
[381]
and she gives her final speech as the US army leaves their post.
