Channel: Pawn Stars
[0]
some down here in LA would Chum and
[2]
we're about to go take a look at this
[4]
huge collection of old steel printing
[7]
plates I have a feeling they're gonna be
[9]
really heavy that's the real reason why
[12]
I brought chop you want me to carry it
[15]
all that's why you brought me I got a
[17]
bad back hey how's it going been alright
[22]
are you doing sorry we're late
[25]
I'd eat lunch twice that's okay here is
[29]
a lot of metal plates holy so these are
[38]
all the printing plates from the
[39]
American Bank no company that is correct
[42]
the plates were used in printing stock
[45]
certificates currency stamps pretty much
[47]
anything I mean have these been
[50]
catalogued or anything no they've been
[52]
here for several months Chum see like
[55]
they have this currency thing on the
[56]
front of them let's go print some money
[60]
boys I have plates and rollers from the
[66]
American bank note company I've
[67]
collected coins and currencies my whole
[69]
life as long as I can remember and then
[71]
the printing talked to me a lot cuz my
[73]
entire family has been in the printing
[74]
business for three generations so I was
[76]
just interesting to me from a lot of
[77]
different perspectives this is pretty
[81]
amazing the American bank note company
[83]
was found in 1795 by Robert Scott who
[86]
was original engraver for the United
[89]
States Mint they have engraved and
[91]
printed stocks bonds currencies oh yeah
[94]
they were printing currency for tons of
[96]
different countries just about every
[98]
bond certificate in the United States
[100]
was printed by them they had the
[102]
printing technology where it was really
[103]
really difficult to counterfeit their
[105]
stuff right and they're just out of
[107]
business now and you just know they're
[109]
they still in business business today
[110]
currencies are a lot different now in
[112]
stocks and bonds are traded digitally so
[115]
they just like sold off all their old
[116]
metal plates yes I did and here are you
[119]
looking at it there's a ton of people
[121]
this could appeal to you have currency
[124]
collectors who would buy it bond
[125]
collectors that would buy it and if you
[127]
have anything specific to like certain
[128]
companies that could be collectible so
[131]
it's all for sale though right
[132]
absolutely
[133]
pick through it it's not an
[134]
all-or-nothing deal right well I'd like
[137]
to do the whole thing in one deal but
[139]
I'll tell you what once you get in there
[141]
and start picking some things and if
[143]
there's some things of interest we can
[144]
talk about that open that door okay cool
[148]
I'm gonna call a buddy down here to help
[150]
me too if you don't why don't mind at
[152]
all I'm gonna start digging through this
[153]
you call Peter and then come back and
[155]
help me all right so we're here at a
[160]
printing Museum and they're actually
[162]
gonna take these steel plates and put
[163]
them in a press and print something can
[165]
you show me the process how to do this
[167]
Oh certainly can you print this one we
[170]
can print that all right who doesn't
[171]
love a good train image so if everything
[173]
looks good me back and eke a deal are
[179]
you ready I'm ready
[179]
oh yeah let's check it out well step on
[181]
over our printing press so first we're
[184]
gonna work the ink it's actually a very
[186]
specialized ink it's a very dense very
[188]
heavy what our first step to do here is
[191]
actually to get the ink into those small
[193]
crevices in the plate okay and while
[196]
this is happening our paper is actually
[198]
in the process of getting softened in a
[200]
bucket of water Wow so we're inked up no
[204]
Mike my master printer is gonna take the
[207]
next step here to get the ink off the
[210]
surface and then leave the ink in those
[212]
reservoirs so now you can see the train
[215]
just leave it like that
[217]
yeah now we're gonna get that into the
[220]
press oh this is very cool so next we're
[224]
gonna get the paper quick question do
[227]
you have the paper they used to print
[228]
money on well I can tell you who makes
[230]
it it's actually one of the oldest
[231]
companies in the nation it's cranes
[233]
paper of your turn and then tonight yeah
[236]
well they also have a good mailing list
[239]
and guess who sees their mailing lists
[240]
the secret service the key is getting
[243]
this started with the felts allowing for
[246]
the pressure whoa that's incredible it's
[253]
absolutely amazing I had no idea it
[256]
would look like this
[257]
well thanks man I really really
[259]
appreciate this you never thought
[260]
printing was art it is definitely it's
[262]
an art and a craft enjoy it all right so
[268]
you're asking 4,500 and I think that's a
[273]
steal Rick um so you're still good at
[278]
4,500 bucks
[279]
I think 4,500 is a good number you get
[281]
the opportunity the printings and I can
[283]
go wherever you want to take it it's
[284]
unlimited I guess we have a deal this is
[289]
absolutely fabulous I am now we're just
[292]
gonna hire this guy I'll go to my truck
[296]
can already check okay this is a really
[300]
cool place yeah it is Chum I'll be a few
[305]
minutes Rick
[314]
you
