How To Block a Program with Windows Firewall (Windows 10) - YouTube

Channel: How To - Digital

[0]
so today I'm gonna be showing you guys how to block a program on your Windows
[3]
Firewall I'm doing this on Windows 10 and I'm gonna be blocking internet
[7]
explorer now this should be more or less the same on Windows 7 and 8 I'm not
[12]
entirely sure but if it does work let us know in the comments section and I'll
[17]
thank you in advance for letting us know I'm also blocking Internet Explorer just
[21]
to give you guys a visual of Internet Explorer working beforehand and not
[25]
working afterwards now the first thing we do on Windows 10 is go to the search
[30]
bar and type into firewall now this should pop up Windows Firewall just
[37]
click that now on the left hand side come down and you'll see at Advanced
[42]
Settings click that and this window should open on the left hand side you'll
[48]
see inbound rules and outbound rules first we want to go to inbound rules
[52]
click that on the right-hand side under actions click new rule so we're blocking
[58]
a program today so make sure program selected and click Next now we need to
[63]
find where the actual application is located not the shortcut the actual
[68]
application so in order to find that if you're if you have a shortcut on your
[74]
desktop just go to that right click it go down properties make sure in the
[80]
properties windows shortcut is selected and come down and look for target now
[86]
you'll see this little URL here this little link copy that and paste that
[93]
into this box and you should be good from here just click Next but if you
[99]
don't have a shortcut on your desktop to find it you actually have to click the
[103]
Browse and find where the program the application is located now unless you
[109]
install it in custom location it should be in the C Drive the local C Drive
[113]
either under Program Files or Program Files x86 the one I'm looking for is
[119]
under x86 I click that I find an explorer now when I open the Internet Explorer
[126]
file I'll see that there are other
[128]
applications here which you might run into this problem just to make sure
[133]
you're opening the right one or you're gonna be blocking the right one
[136]
right-click it and select open and the program opens as normal then that's the
[142]
right one if it doesn't then it's the wrong one so I have where I want
[147]
selected I'm going to click that and I'm gonna click Next now we're gonna decide
[153]
what to do either allow it or block it now I want to block this so at the
[157]
bottom here we come to block connection and click Next
[161]
now in this next window we need to decide where we're going to block it
[165]
it's safe to say that we're probably gonna want to block it on everything so
[170]
make sure all these are selected now in this next window we're going to add the
[175]
name of the block so I recommend just using the program's name and adding a
[180]
little something extra in the end and capitals like block so in case you have
[185]
to delete it it's easy to spot now come back to this window click outbound rules
[190]
and we're basically going to do the same thing I'm going to run through a really
[195]
fast so outbound, new rule, program next browse, Internet Explorer, open, next, block
[207]
the connection, next, domain private public selected.. selected, next, name ie
[215]
block, finish! now let's see if it worked as we can see Internet Explorer does not
[222]
work anymore it can't connect to the internet
[225]
so to undo that we just come back to the same place find our block delete it go
[235]
to the inbound and outbound which everyone you didn't delete delete it and
[248]
it should work again so that's how you block a program on your Windows 10
[253]
firewall it should be more or less the same on windows 7 & 8 if it's not let me
[258]
know in the comment section if it is also let us know if this video helped do
[261]
throw me a thumbs up if it didn't go ahead and thumbs it down and also give me
[266]
some feedback in the comment section I I'd like
[269]
to know if the things that I'm teaching or actually working so just let me know
[275]
like I said hope to help you out if it didn't let me know give me some feedback
[280]
but I'll see you guys in the next one
