A boy rejected by banks, companies, customers and even employees.
[3]
Could anyone imagine that this boy within 5 years will build 6000 Cr company?
[7]
A company about which no one knew 5 years before, is selling 10,000+ products daily.
[13]
With 35.8% market share, Boat is dominating India's Earphone market.
[17]
Interestingly, every 6 out of 10 sold earphones in India are of Boat.
[21]
The question is in spite of having competitors like JBL, Noise, MIVI in the market,
[25]
How Aman Gupta made Boat India's most wearable brand within 5 years?
[30]
And most importantly, what are those powerful business lessons we can learn and implement in our business?
[37]
In 2016, when Aman Gupta started Boat, Earphone market was highly saturated in India.
[43]
But the real story starts before 2 years, in 2014.
[46]
When JBL newly entered the Indian market.
[49]
At that time, Aman Gupta used to work in JBL.
[51]
Aman Gupta was fascinated to see JBL's growth in India.
[55]
And from here he decided to enter in Indian wearable market.
[59]
When he was studying the market, he saw a big change coming.
[64]
The change was Seller to Buyer Market shift.
[66]
In simple words, in past manufacturing was done first and then think that whom to sell this product.
[72]
But now, at present first consumer is studied, his needs and wants are studied, And then the product is manufactured.
[81]
In past, Indian Market was a seller dominant market.
[83]
That means the sellers were limited and buyers were more.
[88]
But now the scenario has changed.
[90]
Now Indian market is Buyers Market.
[92]
The number of buyers are less but more sellers.
[96]
JBL, SkullCandy, Boult, Noise, MIVI - In India there were more earphone sellers than buyers.
[102]
Now what should Boat do?
[104]
At this moment, one fears to enter in the business or not?
[109]
In market JBL and SkullCandy, after studying Indian consumer's taste and preferences,
[112]
They already had launched winning products in market.
[115]
SO the question is what Aman Gupta did that today Boat's market share is more than these companies combined market share?
[123]
I know many of you will say- Boat is here b'coz of their amazing Marketing.
[128]
If they will take Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant and Kartik Aaryan in their advertisement, then products will get sold.
[133]
But this is not the case.
[135]
Believe me or not, but Boat's success is not in their marketing.
[139]
The secret behind their success is something different.
[141]
The question is What's the secret?
[144]

[235]
Coming back, when Boat entered the market in 2016.
[238]
At that time, there existed more than 200 earphone brands in the market.
[242]
Boat didn't made any different product category nor made any different innovation in product.
[247]
Boat's actual success secret is hidden in its Execution Strategy.
[251]
So Boat's execution strategy looks something like this-
[254]
Market Force 1 and Market Force 2.
[256]
These both make Consumer Social Behavior.
[258]
After Social Behavior comes Market Insights and then Consumer Behavior and then comes Pricing and Marketing Communication.
[265]
And then finally comes, Customer's Purchase Decision.
[268]
I know after seeing this, you would be thinking it tough.
[272]
So don't worry, Understand this very carefully.
[275]
Boat launched in 2016. Luckily at that time one more thing happened.
[279]
In the same year, Jio was also launched.
[281]
After the entry of Jio, these 2 things happened.
[284]
1) Increase in Content Consumption
[287]
When Jio came, people started consuming more content.
[292]
B'coz before Jio, people had not that much Internet Access that they can consume so much content.
[297]
2) Increase in Mid Range Smartphone Demand
[299]
B'coz to consume content you obviously need phone.
[302]
So there were 2 Forces
[303]
1) Jio and 2) Smartphone Companies
[306]
Like Oppo, Vivo, Realme, OnePlus etc
[309]
These 2 things changed people's consumer behavior such that the people who used to see their phones 5-6 times a day
[316]
That people now consume 40% of their time in Movies, Videos, Music and in fact Gaming also.
[322]
And due to this market insights completely changed.
[326]
Now people's audio and video consumption rate was more than 50%
[329]
And screen time was spiked 70%.
[332]
Watching people using Jio, many people wanted to take benefit of smartphones and high speed internet.
[339]
These gave birth to new Consumer Behavior in market.
[342]
Now people were regularly consuming content.
[344]
Now watching these people, those people who didn't had smartphones and earphones also wanted to consume content.
[351]
These people wanted to be a part of Internet Revolution but their pocket-size was limited.
[357]
Due to the entry of companies like Jio and MI , demand of earphones - which is a complementary good raised.
[363]
Now people just wanted Earphones.
[365]
Whatever the brand, whatever the company, People wanted Earphones.
[369]
And you know what, After studying market dynamics, Aman Gupta launched Boat's earphones.
[375]
But why Boat as a brand became so successful in the market?
[379]
In market, Mostly earphones less than 300 Rs had poor sound quality.
[385]
Now people had high speed internet, and now to enjoy movies and videos you need to have good sound quality.
[394]
Now in the market, earphones less than 300 Rs were of really bad sound quality.
[398]
And good sound quality earphones started from 999 Rs.
[401]
JBL brought these price point a little down to 799Rs.
[405]
But still this was costly for more than half of the people.
[409]
And Boat smartly launched its earphones from the range of 299 to 799 Rs.
[416]
But you know what, Boat's sales were driven by Earphone's Intricate Differentiation
[420]
So let me explain you in a simple way.
[422]
So the people who don't do jobs related video or sound work,
[425]
It's difficult for them to tell difference between 500 Rs earphone and 2000 Rs earphone.
[431]
Differences are there but minor.
[433]
So when people like you and me use earphone, it's same experience for us of 500 Rs earphone and 2000 Rs earphone.
[441]
And so people weren't able to differentiate between other companies' 1500-2000 Rs earphones and Boat's 300-400 Rs earphones.
[449]
And due this these people always preferred Boat.
[452]
Many people also believe that Boat is so successful b'coz Boat Sells Aspiration.
[456]
When you see Boat's ads you see celebrities like Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Kiara Advani, Kartik Aaryan.
[463]
But interestingly before 2018, Boat had very less money and was not able to afford these celebrities.
[469]
Money to afford celebrities came afterwards.
[472]
Boat would not be able to afford these celebrities if their execution strategy was not powerful.
[478]
And due to this reason, Boat with 1550 Cr revenue is dominating Wearable Market and soon going to launch its IPO.
[485]
And most importantly, what are those powerful business lessons we can learn and implement in our business?
[491]
1) Symbiosis is the ultimate driving force.
[494]
You must have noticed that many products came into the market which were amazing
[499]
But then also these products failed.
[501]
So the reason is only one-
[503]
The reason is Lack of Symbiosis
[506]
Symbiosis means Helping each other to survive
[509]
In market, the birth of any service or product is due to any other product or service.
[515]
For example let's assume that Jio would not be there.
[517]
Then would you be surfing on YouTube?
[519]
And if you were not using YouTube then you won't be able to watch this video.
[522]
Due to entry of Jio in market, many businesses flourished.
[525]
And due to that business, many other businesses also flourished.
[529]
And this is what we call Symbiosis - Helping Each Other to Survive
[533]
Before introducing your product in market, you should scan market environment.
[538]
By doing this you will see many opportunities missed by other businesses.
[543]
And this same thing Boat did.
[545]
2) Pricing can kill you or give you wings.
[548]
ThinkSchool's Ganesh Sir, who is like big brother to me,
[551]
I learnt a very good thing from him
[553]
He said, "Pricing is a Double Edged Sword."
[557]
And I also strongly believe this.
[560]
If product is accurately priced then it can do wonders for the business.
[563]
But if there's some mistake in pricing then, it can also kill the business.
[570]
Boat very smartly priced their products.
[573]
This completely fulfilled both needs - customer utility and aspiration.
[579]
3) Fall in Love with Purpose and not the Product.
[582]
In business, we frequently do this mistake.
[587]
The mistake is - Falling in Love with your Products.
[589]
We get attached to our products.
[592]
And this thing can be dangerous.
[594]
I tell you why - B'coz Love Makes You Myopic.
[597]
I Repeat!
[599]
Love makes you Myopic.
[600]
Let me explain in simple words.
[602]
However you are but you get good environment and treatment at your homes.
[609]
Mummy gives you food, Papa buys things for you and you get praised for many things.
[615]
But have you wondered why these things don't happen with you outside?
[620]
The reason is just 1 - Your Parents Love You.
[623]
Your parents love you so they do these things for you and you think you are special.
[630]
But you know what in real world, You only get paid for the things you achieved.
[635]
In real world, you will be praised for only those things on which you have given your full effort.
[641]
Similarly, when we get attached to our products, We ignore Customer's negative feedback and its drawbacks.
[650]
And we always think - Our product is the best.
[654]
In this case, we can never bring improvements in our products as per customer requirements.
[659]
So it's better to love and get attached to the purpose rather than product.
[664]
Question yourself, what's the purpose of your business?
[668]
And to fulfill your purpose, work consistently.
[671]
Do you know, Nestle is world's most hated company?
[674]
The question is we used to think Nestle is a KitKat, BarOne type chocolate making company,
[680]
Then why is this company hated so much?
[683]
You will know after watching right side video...
