congresswoman nicole mariotakis uh the
[2]
new york republican sits on the house
[4]
transportation infrastructure committee
[6]
um
[7]
congressman what do you think of where
[8]
this is all going right now uh you know
[12]
neither side progressives or moderates
[14]
of the democratic party appear to have
[16]
gotten what they wanted right off the
[18]
bat but i would have to think that the
[19]
progressives are feeling a little
[22]
more cocky than are the moderates so
[24]
where are republicans in this
[28]
well i think
[29]
this demonstrates the failure to bring
[31]
this bill to the floor demonstrates that
[34]
nancy pelosi and president biden have
[36]
kowtow to the socialist wing of the
[38]
party and i think that's the reason why
[40]
you're seeing so many things
[42]
fail in this country right now whether
[44]
it be you know the economic issues that
[46]
we're facing the inflation the labor
[48]
shortages what's happening at the border
[50]
uh what happened in afghanistan a lot of
[52]
it has to do because they cannot govern
[55]
when they're allowing the socialist wing
[57]
of the party to dictate everything
[61]
so for republicans the president made a
[64]
reference to approaching debt ceiling
[66]
the fact that technically we run out of
[68]
money as a country on october 18th i
[69]
know there's wiggle room there but but
[71]
um
[72]
when he said they do the right thing
[74]
what do you think he was saying
[77]
you know i don't know i think he's once
[79]
again not being honest with the american
[81]
people uh look we there was an extender
[84]
that was passed which carried the
[86]
president trump budget forward for a
[88]
couple of months to hold things over the
[90]
real issue becomes where are they going
[92]
to go with this three and a half
[93]
trillion dollar package
[95]
in there there are
[97]
major increases in taxes major intrusion
[100]
and government control
[101]
into your life reporting every
[103]
transaction over 600 in your bank
[106]
account doubling the number of irs
[108]
agents i mean talk about big brother and
[110]
then you have the entitlements in there
[111]
the welfare expansion without even
[113]
working requirements and this would be
[115]
really detrimental to the economy doing
[118]
the right thing would have been to push
[119]
forward with the bipartisan
[120]
infrastructure bill and bring it to the
[123]
floor and call the bluff of the
[125]
socialists and tell them that they
[126]
aren't going to hijack something that
[128]
was generally
[129]
very good for america and would have
[131]
really focused on true infrastructure
[133]
the roads the bridges the coastal
[135]
resiliency flood mitigation sewer
[138]
systems you know ferries transit the
[140]
things that we actually need and what
[141]
americans pay taxes for what they're
[144]
doing is neglecting the things that
[146]
people actually pay taxes for national
[148]
security public safety
[150]
you know look what they're doing at the
[151]
border in the defund the police movement
[153]
they're neglecting these things that
[154]
people expect for tax
[156]
expect in return for tax dollars and
[158]
they're moving down a path of socialism
[160]
which is extraordinarily detrimental and
[163]
will change the course of this country
[164]
forever if they are successful we have
[167]
to stop it
[169]
you know congressman you you're talking
[170]
about the support that this had the
[172]
bipartisan support that this had among
[174]
republicans certainly 19 republican
[176]
senators voted for it in that body
[179]
how many of your colleagues republican
[182]
colleagues do you think would have
[184]
supported this uh it might still come
[186]
for a vote we don't know when anytime
[188]
soon clearly but how many do you think
[190]
would vote for this would you vote for
[192]
this
[194]
well i was inclined to vote for it and
[196]
again i always say incline because you
[198]
never know what form it's actually going
[199]
to come to the floor and if they try to
[201]
tie something else to it
[203]
i would say that you probably had
[204]
somewhere between a dozen or two dozen
[207]
republican votes in in hand and i think
[210]
that was part of president biden's
[211]
failure here to not reach out to the
[213]
republicans to confirm how how each of
[216]
us was going to vote to see if they had
[217]
the votes to make up for the socialist
[219]
squad and the progressives holding back
[221]
and again you can't call it a bipartisan
[223]
infrastructure bill if it doesn't get
[225]
bipartisan
[226]
votes and so i i think that was a real
[229]
mistake on behalf of the president but
[231]
shows once again that he wasn't honest
[233]
with the american people when he said he
[234]
wanted to work in a bipartisan fashion
[236]
instead they're allowing the socialist
[238]
to drive the bus and this is a dangerous
[240]
mistake
[242]
the things that they're proposing i mean
[244]
you know you can point to many countries
[246]
around the world including venezuela
[247]
which which hugo chavez had a lot of
[249]
those same initiatives you know
[250]
socialized medicine
[252]
as well as free education uh in his
[254]
platform and now look 75 percent of
[256]
venezuela is in extreme poverty as a
[259]
result you just run out of other
[260]
people's money
[262]
all right we'll watch it very closely
[264]
congresswoman uh new york again an
[267]
interesting insight there on the part of
[268]
the congresswoman to say that you know
[270]
there would probably be maybe a dozen
[271]
maybe as many as two dozen republican
[273]
votes for this infrastructure-only
[274]
package we simply don't know but even
[277]
with that math it's interesting that
[279]
this was all shell uh even allowing for
[281]
up to 24 republicans voting for this the
[284]
prospect of all the progressives i think
[286]
they're close to 40 of them who might
[288]
opt out and not vote for it
[290]
had to be weighed and that was enough
[292]
for the president to say just cut it
[294]
it's over
