[65]

[99]
that tells me you enjoy the content and
[101]
i will create
[102]
more for you thank you very much so the
[104]
first question
[105]
is going to be either introduce yourself
[108]
or tell me about yourself so this will
[110]
be
[110]
the first interview question asked and
[112]
this is your opportunity
[114]
to get off to a positive start within
[117]
your answer
[118]
make sure you talk about the skills the
[121]
qualities
[122]
and the experience you have and also how
[125]
passionate you are
[126]
about this position it is important we
[129]
show the interview panel
[131]
you can add significant value to their
[133]
organization
[135]
as their new cfo so here's my suggested
[138]
answer to this first
[140]
cfo interview question tell me about
[142]
yourself
[143]
i am a strategically driven cfo who has
[146]
the vision
[147]
and the foresight to ensure the
[149]
organization is financially lean
[152]
profitable and compliant now over the
[154]
years i've worked hard to build up a
[156]
diverse set of skills
[158]
that enables me to deal with a wide
[160]
range of situations
[162]
to respond to financial problems and
[164]
issues as and when they arise
[166]
and the ability to simplify processes
[169]
that are to the advantage of
[171]
everyone within the organization the
[174]
level of responsibility that comes with
[175]
the position
[176]
of chief financial officer is something
[179]
i take very seriously
[181]
i have the knowledge the commercial
[183]
acumen the strategic vision and the
[185]
confidence
[186]
to help you achieve your goals if you do
[188]
hire me
[189]
as your cfo i believe you will see a
[191]
significant and long lasting positive
[193]
impact financially
[195]
from the work i carry out the standards
[197]
i set and the results
[198]
orientated mindset i utilize in all work
[202]
and projects
[202]
i am responsible for so that's a very
[205]
positive answer
[206]
to that first cfo interview question
[209]
tell me about yourself
[210]
and it sets you up with confidence for
[213]
the remainder of your interview
[215]
now you can either pause the video if
[217]
you want to and take a note of the
[219]
questions
[219]
and answers as we progress together or
[222]
if you want to wait i will tell you
[223]
where you can download my full set
[225]
of 23 chief financial officer interview
[228]
questions and top scoring answers
[230]
including the ones we are working
[232]
through together today
[234]
the next question describe how your
[236]
pretty previous experience
[238]
has prepared you for this role now
[241]
having experience in a wide variety of
[243]
financial related situations
[245]
will significantly increase your chances
[247]
of success
[248]
at your cfo interview my advice is to
[251]
write down a list of challenging
[253]
situations you've been in
[255]
where your actions have helped an
[256]
organization to
[258]
improve its performance financially so
[260]
here's my suggested answer to that
[262]
question
[263]
describe how your previous experience
[265]
has prepared you for this role
[268]
i have many years experience within
[270]
different sized
[271]
organizations each with differing goals
[273]
and objectives
[275]
this experience has enabled me to
[277]
develop a flexible
[278]
and adaptable approach towards an
[280]
organization's financial
[281]
responsibilities
[283]
and objectives for example i have
[285]
experience in assisting
[287]
with strategic decisions based around
[290]
policy where changes are needed to
[292]
ensure compliance
[294]
i have extensive experience of creating
[297]
company policy and ensuring it is
[299]
disseminated throughout the organization
[301]
and i have experience of identifying
[303]
financial risks and the opportunities
[305]
that are present
[306]
within the sector i also have experience
[309]
of simplifying processes
[311]
to help an organization meet its
[313]
financial and commercial goals quicker
[316]
finally i have experience of working
[318]
alongside other senior organizational
[320]
officers
[321]
and i fully understand how important it
[323]
is to work collaboratively
[324]
and flexibly with my senior colleagues
[326]
to achieve the company goals
[328]
and aspirations so that's another really
[331]
strong answer that you can use
[333]
during your cfo interview now don't go
[336]
anywhere
[336]
because i still have many more questions
[338]
and answers to work through with you
[340]
but when you're ready if you want to
[341]
click that link in the top right hand
[342]
corner of the video
[343]
it goes through to my website
[345]
pastmyinterview.com and you can download
[347]
my full set
[348]
of 23 cfo interview questions and top
[351]
scoring answers
[352]
including the ones we are working
[353]
through together today the next question
[356]
why do you want to work for our
[357]
organization as the chief
[359]
financial officer now you and i know
[362]
that cfo positions rarely become
[364]
available
[364]
in large organizations therefore we must
[367]
show the interview panel
[368]
we have good reasons for wanting to work
[370]
for them
[371]
in the position of cfo and it's not
[374]
simply the job that we are interested in
[376]
we have to show
[377]
that we have been attracted to their
[379]
organization and we can add value
[382]
through the work we undertake so here is
[384]
my suggested answer
[385]
to the question why do you want to work
[387]
for our organization as the chief
[389]
financial officer prior to applying for
[392]
this cfo position
[394]
i researched your organization carefully
[396]
i researched
[397]
the sector and assessed the
[399]
opportunities that are present
[400]
where i feel i can make a positive
[402]
difference my research
[404]
told me you have a great history of
[406]
achievement you set very
[408]
high standards you have an innovative
[410]
approach to creating products and
[411]
services
[412]
and you have ambitious plans for the
[414]
future there are clearly
[416]
lots of opportunities within this sector
[418]
and whilst there will be challenges
[420]
along the way
[421]
the future is bright and i want to be a
[422]
part of that journey helping you along
[424]
the way
[425]
from a financial perspective the skills
[428]
and experience i have gained throughout
[429]
my career i believe
[430]
are a strong match for your
[432]
organizational values and your high
[434]
standards so that's another
[436]
stronger answer so we're making very
[438]
good progress now
[439]
during our preparation for your cfo
[442]
interview and the next question i want
[443]
you to prepare for
[444]
is tell me a time when you solved a
[446]
financial or accounting related problem
[449]
within an organization so this
[452]
situational type cfo interview question
[455]
is assessing your ability to solve
[457]
financial specific problems
[459]
within an organization here's a strong
[462]
answer
[463]
to assist you a few years ago i started
[466]
working for a large organization
[468]
as their chief financial officer they
[471]
needed my experience because there were
[472]
issues from a budgeting
[474]
and accounting perspective and
[476]
significant changes
[477]
needed to be made quickly i started out
[480]
assessing the current
[481]
financial position the organization was
[483]
in the staff who were in place the
[485]
responsibilities they all had
[487]
and the problems present that were
[488]
causing the business issues
[490]
after quickly identifying the cause of
[492]
the problems i put a plan in place to
[494]
turn things around
[495]
quickly i changed policy i recruited two
[499]
new members of staff
[500]
and i put restrictions in place to
[501]
ensure the buying and ordering processes
[504]
were more controlled then by holding
[506]
regular meetings with heads of
[508]
departments
[508]
i was able to change the financial
[510]
culture within the organization
[511]
to one that was more responsible this
[514]
eventually led to a better working
[515]
practice and procedures
[517]
and an increase in profitability for the
[519]
organization
[520]
so you are giving a specific situation
[523]
you've been in previously
[524]
that is relevant to that interview
[526]
question
[527]
the next one if we asked you to simplify
[530]
a financial process within
[531]
our organization how would you approach
[534]
it so this is quite a challenging
[536]
cfo interview question to respond to but
[539]
it does feature often
[540]
during interviews at this level here's
[543]
my example answer
[544]
to assist you so the question again is
[546]
if we asked you to simplify
[548]
a financial process within our
[550]
organization how would you approach it
[553]
i would utilize a four-step process that
[555]
i've used time and time again in
[557]
previous organizations
[558]
the first step is to identify the
[560]
financial strategic
[562]
focus where are we right now and where
[564]
do we want to be
[566]
the second step is to determine the
[568]
direction we are heading as an
[569]
organization
[570]
now this should ideally be focused on
[572]
our customers and clients
[574]
our approach to sales and customer
[576]
service and our operations and
[578]
fulfillment processes
[580]
the third step is to decide which
[582]
services we keep in-house
[583]
and which we outsource there is in my
[586]
opinion a misconception that everything
[588]
financial
[588]
must be done internally when in fact an
[591]
effective way to simplify things
[593]
is to utilize the skills and expertise
[595]
of others through
[596]
external partnerships and outsourcing
[599]
finally step four would be to create our
[601]
financial roadmap
[602]
which dictates how we are going to
[604]
achieve our objectives now the roadmap
[606]
should include
[607]
the transformation process the timeline
[609]
the process for replacement and change
[611]
and the person is responsible for each
[614]
specific element
[615]
experience has told me that throughout
[618]
any process of simplification
[620]
and change it's very important to
[622]
identify the risks involved
[623]
but to also make sure you take advantage
[626]
of any opportunities present
[627]
that the organization can benefit from
[629]
financially so that's a very in-depth
[632]
answer that explains the difference
[634]
steps and processes you would follow
[636]
to simplify financial processes within
[640]
an organization and you can use that as
[642]
a sample response
[643]
to build your own based on your own
[645]
experiences
[647]
