[4]
all right gently uh bombing at a mosque
[7]
in afghanistan's capital on sunday
[8]
raising fears to some that the country
[10]
is on the brink of a civil war it comes
[12]
as experts say biden's rushed withdrawal
[15]
led to aircrafts leaving kabul with
[17]
empty seats we saw some of those images
[19]
remember and here's some more with more
[21]
than 100 000 afghan allies left behind
[24]
and a lot of americans too kabul also
[26]
faces plunging blackouts as their new
[28]
taliban government fails to pay its
[31]
electric bill on time just like a lot of
[33]
other people
[35]
uh gop senator tom cotton served in
[37]
afghanistan he joins us live senator
[39]
good morning to you good morning thank
[40]
you it's good to be back in the studio
[41]
with you all yeah it's great to see you
[42]
happy here so uh you know go back about
[45]
a month ago you were actually trying to
[47]
help some of the afghan allies get out
[50]
and you did successfully but now the
[52]
news apparently these airplanes were
[54]
flying in and flying out empty because
[57]
people would not allow the americans and
[60]
our allies to get on the plane yeah i
[61]
can tell you exactly why that happened
[63]
because i've talked to some of the
[64]
people who are on the ground there's two
[65]
reasons first it was so chaotic that
[67]
even our own citizens green card holders
[70]
or afghans who had fought with our
[71]
troops and were approved for a special
[73]
olympic visa couldn't get into the
[74]
airport so people who were supposed to
[76]
be on those planes couldn't get in in
[78]
time to board them the second reason is
[80]
they were flying out of the kabul
[81]
airport one runway you get to a point
[83]
where there's too many airplanes backed
[84]
up too many airplanes trying to come in
[86]
and they just had to take off to get
[88]
them out if they had been at bagram we
[90]
had multiple runways you had more uh
[92]
space to park airplanes you wouldn't
[94]
have that problem
[96]
yep it all goes back to joe biden's
[98]
ill ill-planned disorganized chaotic
[101]
decision to withdraw from afghanistan
[103]
don't you think the state department
[104]
deserves some of the discredit because
[106]
anthony blinken according to the defense
[108]
department it was up to state to
[110]
organize a lot of this stuff the reason
[112]
why these people didn't get out the
[113]
reason why the manifests weren't full
[115]
was the state department sat in his
[116]
hands yeah absolutely i mean we heard
[118]
last week from the generals who helped
[121]
organize uh this airlift that the state
[124]
department refused to
[126]
call for the evacuation of
[128]
non-combatants for american civilians
[129]
and green card holders until the very
[131]
last minute that the military was
[133]
planning for it as early as april and
[135]
may right after joe biden made his
[137]
decision they were like hey we're ready
[138]
to go we're going to start taking people
[139]
out should we do that yet tony blinken
[141]
state department sat on its hands until
[143]
the very last minute when uh the taliban
[145]
was on the gates of uh couple what's so
[148]
infuriating is if you see these images
[150]
of seats that are just empty and we
[152]
remember how we all felt on those
[154]
mornings when we were reporting on this
[156]
hearts go out to all the people that
[157]
were stranded and left behind and wanted
[159]
one of those seats i mean their
[160]
livelihood their lives depended on it
[162]
and when you say they couldn't get
[164]
through the gates at the airport we
[165]
didn't have our troops there on the
[167]
ground to help our american citizens or
[169]
our allies get onto these planes then
[171]
you read some of them who had credible
[173]
documents were stopped and were not
[175]
allowed to get on the planes while
[176]
others that hadn't been vetted were
[178]
allowed through what's the vetting
[180]
process now for all the people that are
[181]
here that came from afghanistan have we
[184]
vetted all of them no absolutely not
[185]
ainsley and joe biden screwed it up
[187]
coming and going so first we left a lot
[188]
of people in afghanistan who should have
[190]
gotten out second we brought a lot of
[191]
people out who we shouldn't have brought
[193]
out people had no particular attachment
[194]
to the united states who hadn't fought
[196]
with our troops and you've seen the
[198]
reports now of a young female soldier
[199]
being assaulted at fort bliss and el
[201]
paso or sex offenses by afghan men at
[205]
fort mccoy and other offenses there's
[207]
really no vetting i mean he's just
[208]
walking off the base and it's really
[209]
hard i mean it's hard to do in
[210]
afghanistan that's one reason it took so
[212]
long is you got to go interview people
[213]
face to face i mean afghanistan's a
[215]
third world country you don't just call
[216]
it the fbi or the high school or the
[218]
local police so we have almost no way to
[221]
vet these people the biden
[222]
administration is taking their name if
[224]
it is their name testing against
[225]
databases if they don't come back it's
[227]
like well they must be fine to go i i
[229]
heard one interview where uh somebody
[230]
was interviewing people and said who
[232]
exactly did we fly out and the number
[234]
was like 75 percent of the people the
[236]
afghans
[238]
were not a special immigrant uh visa
[240]
holders in other words we flew out 75
[243]
percent of the wrong people yeah
[245]
unbelievable and it's basically whoever
[247]
was able to get into the airport
[248]
especially in those first chaotic days
[250]
after the fall of kabul um again we have
[253]
no idea who these people are we're just
[255]
taking it on faith they're using their
[256]
real name and then we're testing against
[258]
incomplete databases saying well if we
[260]
don't have a record of you being a
[261]
terrorist then you must be fine you're
[262]
not going to attack americans you're not
[264]
going to commit sex offenses against
[266]
american women you're not going to bring
[267]
any kind of disease or anything else in
[269]
the country and you don't have a right
[271]
under american law to be here you're not
[273]
like those brave afghans with whom i
[274]
served who fought alongside us who
[276]
risked their lives and their family
[278]
lives who we left behind what if they do
[279]
make it to america what do we do do we
[281]
send them back are they incarcerated
[283]
here what happens no i mean the
[284]
administration is basically clearing
[285]
everyone through it's just like all
[286]
those uh migrants that we saw at the
[288]
border in del rio a couple weeks ago i
[290]
mean basically the word is out across
[292]
the world that if you get to our
[294]
southern border you can get in i mean a
[295]
lot of these special immigrant visa
[296]
holders would probably be better off
[298]
trying to get out of kabul and go to
[299]
mexico and then come to our southern
[300]
border didn't wait to get on the plane
[301]
the double well you got everybody else
[303]
coming through why not uh through uh
[305]
through colombia to panama and then
[306]
costa rica and then right through uh
[308]
senator great to see you in person yeah
[310]
all right thanks for helping us out
[312]
while you're in new york city do your
[313]
christmas shopping because absolutely
[314]
nothing's going to be on the shelf don't
[316]
put it on layaway i've heard that i've
[317]
heard that all right thanks senator
