[9]
hi everyone thank you for joining this
[11]
sme leadership academy webinar on
[12]
getting your business online
[14]
my name is sally jeffrey and i'm an
[16]
industry manager here at google working
[17]
with retailers both here in singapore
[19]
and across apac
[21]
as we all know the events of this year
[23]
have completely transformed our way of
[25]
life
[26]
especially when it comes to shopping
[28]
dining or securing services
[30]
whether it's replenishing our
[31]
refrigerators stocking up on household
[33]
items or treating yourself to a meal
[35]
we've done a lot of it online and i
[38]
really think this step
[39]
change has demonstrated the importance
[40]
of digital readiness to the success of
[42]
your business
[43]
so with this in mind today i'll take you
[46]
through how google my business can help
[47]
you as a platform for bringing your
[48]
business online
[50]
from creating a profile to setting it up
[52]
for success and finally how you can
[54]
leverage google my business to drive
[56]
your business forward as we navigate
[57]
this new normal
[59]
before we go into the content i want to
[62]
emphasize that there are especially at
[64]
this point in time
[65]
constant improvements on our platforms
[67]
what that means is the information we
[69]
present today
[70]
might be slightly different or have
[72]
additional improvements in place in the
[73]
future
[75]
also you might see some delays in
[77]
getting new verifications processed
[79]
but the good news is that we have a new
[80]
initiative in conjunction with uob that
[82]
will greatly simplify this process
[84]
and mourn that a little bit later on
[87]
if you're already using google my
[89]
business you can also stay up to date by
[90]
keeping an eye on the covet 19 dashboard
[93]
card in your gmb interface which will
[95]
detail the latest updates and gmb
[97]
features in your area
[99]
okay so let's jump right in and talk
[101]
about how to get started and set up a
[103]
google my business profile
[105]
in case you don't have a listing yet
[107]
creating one is very easy
[109]
step one is you simply sign into the
[111]
google account you use for your business
[113]
step two is to go to your google player
[116]
app store
[116]
search for google my business and
[118]
install the app on your phone
[120]
once you open the app you can create
[122]
your business profile
[124]
and this is where you fill in
[125]
information like your business name
[127]
if it's a shop or an office if you serve
[129]
customers what your address is etc
[133]
you can then locate your specific
[134]
location choose a category
[136]
category optionally fill in contact
[138]
details and you're finished
[140]
your verification is on the way when it
[142]
arrives you simply sign in and click the
[144]
verify now button and enter the
[146]
verification code provided
[149]
the great news is that we've partnered
[150]
with the uob to make it easier than ever
[152]
for smes to sign up for google my
[154]
business in just a few simple
[156]
steps step one you sign up for gmb
[159]
by visiting uob site or branches or
[161]
speaking with your relationship manager
[164]
step two you provide your company
[166]
information through my info business or
[168]
in-person
[169]
step three you'll receive a google
[171]
verification code by
[172]
sms at the branch or for from your
[175]
relationship manager
[176]
and step four you activate google my
[178]
business by visiting google's portal to
[180]
complete the process
[183]
so now you've set up your profile you
[185]
want to ensure that you're really making
[186]
the most of it
[188]
the first thing you'll want to do here
[189]
is add managers to your profile
[192]
these are the people who who will be
[193]
able to monitor your accounts or
[195]
locations and add edit or delete the
[197]
locations in the business account
[199]
you can do this by signing into gmb
[201]
clicking on the gear icon or three dot
[203]
menu
[204]
click on the location or business
[205]
account you'd like to manage and click
[207]
manage users
[209]
next now more than ever it's really
[211]
important that your information on
[213]
google is accurate and up to date
[215]
so you should add all of your basic
[216]
business information like your address
[219]
opening hours phone number and
[220]
description it's really easy to do
[223]
just log into gmb and in the menu
[225]
section on the left
[226]
click info make your edits and after
[228]
each attribute click apply
[231]
another really important step is to add
[233]
business photos
[234]
and this is because ninety percent of
[236]
customers say they are more likely to
[238]
visit a business that has photos on the
[240]
search results page
[242]
this is particularly true for
[243]
restaurants if you think about it
[245]
where the overall atmosphere is just as
[247]
important as the food served so really
[249]
important that you showcase
[250]
you know that element of your business
[254]
you'll also want to bring your brand
[255]
identity to your business profile with
[257]
your logo and cover photos
[259]
and you should really think of these as
[260]
your virtual storefront you're
[262]
showcasing your business
[263]
and creating the curb appeal that will
[265]
temp customers through your door
[267]
or to order online from you
[271]
if you don't have a website gmb can help
[273]
you to create a free one to represent
[275]
your business
[276]
all you need to do is log in and select
[279]
website menu to get started
[281]
google will then automatically use the
[283]
info and photos from your business
[285]
profile to create your website
[287]
which you can customize customize to
[288]
showcase what makes you unique
[290]
and give your customers all the
[292]
information they need to know about your
[293]
business
[294]
your site will also be automatically
[296]
optimized for display on desktop tablet
[298]
and mobile
[299]
devices and the best thing is the whole
[301]
process is super quick
[303]
only taking a couple of minutes from
[304]
start to finish
[307]
so i've taken you through the basics in
[309]
setting up for success
[311]
like adding managers including your
[313]
business information photos and logos
[315]
as well as how to create a site if you
[317]
don't have one
[318]
for this next section i'll talk about
[320]
the more advanced ways you can set your
[322]
google my business profile up for
[324]
success first up
[327]
while key information points such as
[329]
address and opening hours are of course
[331]
important
[332]
if you really want to attract customers
[334]
you need to tell them more
[336]
and this is because 29 of customers say
[339]
they are more likely to consider
[340]
businesses with more detailed profiles
[343]
and that makes sense intuitively i know
[345]
it's my preference as a customer
[346]
particularly right now
[348]
when any purchase or journey i make is
[350]
much more considered than usual
[353]
so if you want your customers to know
[355]
your business better you can add
[356]
attributes
[357]
these will let them know whether your
[359]
business offers things like wi-fi
[361]
curbside pickup no contact delivery
[364]
or if you're a restaurant do you outdoor
[366]
seating or do you offer take out your
[368]
delivery
[369]
all of which i think you can agree are
[371]
hyper relevant right now
[373]
again it's really easy to do simply open
[376]
your gmb app
[377]
at the bottom tap profile select view
[379]
all find add attribute and tap edit
[382]
when you're finished updating your
[383]
attributes tap apply and your new
[385]
attributes will now be available to
[387]
customers who find your business across
[388]
google search
[389]
and maps depending on the type of
[393]
business you
[394]
run you can up the ante even further by
[396]
sharing more information
[398]
for example if you're a restaurant you
[400]
can list your menu items on your gmb
[402]
profile to show your unique offerings
[404]
and stand out online
[406]
if you have deals or specials to attract
[408]
customers you can also update your menu
[410]
to reflect these
[412]
all you need to do is sign into google
[413]
my business choose the location you'd
[415]
like to manage
[416]
and in the menu on the left click and
[418]
select menu then edit
[420]
and add your menu items you can also add
[422]
a menu url
[423]
by the same steps then both you and your
[427]
customers can also add photos and names
[429]
of popular dishes which will appear in
[431]
your business profile on google maps and
[432]
the android app
[434]
a few important points here uh dish
[436]
names and details added by you
[438]
will absolutely get preference uh over
[441]
the dish names added by your customers
[444]
in addition you can all suggest an edit
[447]
if you feel the
[448]
customer added dish is inaccurate
[452]
if you're a retailer you can leverage
[454]
product catalog a feature in gmb that
[456]
showcases your products on search and
[457]
maps
[458]
across mobile and desktop devices so
[460]
that people searching locally can see
[462]
what you have to offer
[464]
you can also either show a fixed price
[466]
or price range
[467]
and create a button to link to an e-com
[469]
site to order online
[471]
learn more or get an offer you can do
[473]
all of this by the products tab in your
[475]
gmb dashboard
[480]
finally if you provide services you can
[482]
list these on your business profile
[483]
by choosing from the suggested types of
[485]
services for example
[487]
plumbers may say install softbosses or
[490]
repair toilet as services to add
[493]
if the type of service isn't listed you
[495]
can also create your own custom services
[497]
to actually reflect what you have to
[499]
offer
[502]
okay so you've added all your business
[504]
information and attributes what's next
[507]
well typically the businesses get the
[509]
most out of gmb are those who also use
[511]
it as a platform to engage and
[513]
communicate with their customers and
[515]
potential customers
[517]
when customers have more access to your
[518]
business information and updates
[520]
they can ultimately make better
[522]
decisions as they browse
[523]
and hopefully are more likely to
[525]
purchase with you
[527]
one really easy way to do this is to
[529]
create posts
[530]
and would share updates directly on your
[532]
profile about what's new
[534]
such as products or services offers or
[536]
events
[537]
posts are visible on the updates or
[538]
overview tab of your business profile
[541]
on the mobile search and maps in the
[544]
from owners section
[545]
on the profile and on google my business
[547]
websites
[548]
um i just want to share a few best
[550]
practice tips here around post
[552]
specifically
[554]
one and you really want to make sure
[556]
that the content is high quality
[558]
so no misspellings or gimmicky content
[560]
and then secondly and even more
[562]
importantly
[563]
you really need to make sure your posts
[565]
are respectful and family friendly
[568]
and then a final uh point to note is if
[570]
you are
[571]
linking to a third party website really
[573]
make sure it's one you trust because
[575]
that's a direct
[576]
reflection of your business
[580]
you can also take things a step further
[582]
by setting up messaging in the gmb
[584]
app so that your customers can get in
[585]
touch with you in real time from your
[588]
business profile on google
[590]
messaging really works best as a
[592]
conversation between your business and
[594]
your customers
[595]
so think of it as a channel to answer
[597]
questions tell your story
[599]
and attract more customers to your
[601]
business to ensure the best possible
[603]
experience for your customers
[605]
you can check out our best practice
[606]
guide on the google my business help
[608]
center
[610]
you can also make it easy for your
[612]
customers to book a table directly
[613]
through your profile if you're a
[615]
restaurant
[616]
and if you work with one of our approved
[618]
third-party providers such as joke
[620]
you can manage bookings with them
[621]
through gmb doing so gives you web and
[624]
app services that
[625]
seamlessly use your customers google
[627]
account simplifying the booking
[629]
experience
[630]
your customers also benefit from
[632]
built-in integrations with widely used
[634]
google products
[635]
like calendar and automatic reminders so
[637]
they don't miss their booking
[639]
you can also use the booking tab and
[640]
google my business to view the booking
[642]
history of your business listing
[644]
for bookings that came in through
[645]
reserve or google so a really easy way
[648]
to
[648]
track you know the booking volume and
[650]
progress over the period of time
[653]
if you don't have a third party booking
[655]
a party you can get booking requests
[657]
directly by messaging
[659]
once you turn on messaging in the google
[661]
my business app customers will be able
[662]
to request a booking from your business
[664]
profile and google search
[666]
the option to request a booking may also
[668]
appear to customers when they message
[669]
with the business
[670]
and the booking process is pretty simple
[672]
actually when a customer requests a
[674]
booking
[675]
you will receive a message in the google
[676]
my business app and an email
[678]
notification with a response form
[680]
in the message you'll see a description
[682]
of the customer's request and their
[684]
preferred service time
[686]
you can then send your customer uh your
[688]
available dates and times
[689]
they'll be prompted to confirm and then
[692]
you know the date and
[693]
time of the booking will be uh secured
[698]
you can also provide a welcome offer to
[700]
time customers who follow your business
[701]
so as an example
[703]
20 off donuts for new followers and then
[706]
ultimately convert them into new
[707]
customers
[708]
again setup is super easy simply open
[711]
your google my business app
[712]
tap profile at the bottom of your screen
[715]
and on your profile
[716]
under turn followers into customers tap
[719]
create welcome offer
[720]
and enter information like title
[722]
description coupon codes t's and cs
[725]
you can then tap preview and if you're
[727]
happy with it hit publish
[728]
and only new followers will see your
[730]
offer so a really great conduit for a
[733]
new user acquisition
[735]
now the final thing i want to talk about
[737]
in this section is reviews
[739]
as we all know communication is a
[741]
two-way street and customer views are
[743]
critical to your business
[745]
with gmb you will be notified when
[747]
customers write reviews about your
[749]
business
[750]
and by engaging with them you can build
[751]
rapport and ultimately brand loyalty
[754]
important here is that you reply with
[756]
your point of view solutions
[758]
answers or thanks
[761]
now even for the most successful of
[763]
businesses negative reviews
[765]
will happen the important thing is not
[767]
to panic
[769]
evaluate the situation by looking into
[771]
their into their experience with you and
[772]
their interaction with you or your
[774]
employees
[776]
timeliness is key particularly if you're
[778]
dealing with a deeply dissatisfied
[779]
customer
[780]
so you want to respond quickly to calm
[783]
and reinsure future customers
[785]
who are reading this by the way that the
[787]
same issue won't happen to them
[789]
you can then rectify the situation with
[791]
the individual as soon as possible
[793]
and then often it may be more
[795]
appropriate to ask the customer to
[797]
discuss
[798]
offline more often than not
[801]
uh what we find uh is people will go
[804]
online to vent their frustrations via
[806]
reviews
[807]
rather than proactively rave about
[809]
positive experiences
[811]
so it's critical that you make it as
[813]
easy as possible for your satisfied
[815]
customers to leave reviews
[816]
and even proactively encourage them to
[819]
share
[820]
you can do this by messaging review
[822]
requests with the short link to review
[827]
okay so i've taken you through how to
[828]
create a profile as well as how to set
[830]
up for success
[831]
by leveraging our basic to more advanced
[833]
features
[834]
in this last section i want to talk to
[836]
you specifically about how gmb
[838]
can help drive your business forward as
[840]
we navigate this new normal
[844]
first and foremost ordinarily 54
[847]
of people are looking for business
[848]
opening hours in google maps
[850]
and search and as you can imagine in
[853]
today's context this figure is likely to
[855]
be even higher
[856]
so the first thing you want to make sure
[859]
is that your opening hours are accurate
[861]
i know this sounds basic but you'd be
[863]
amazed how many businesses
[865]
make this mistake for some businesses
[868]
opening hours are longer than usual for
[870]
others they may be shorter than usual
[872]
just make sure they are up to date
[874]
online to avoid disappointment from your
[876]
customers
[878]
also as many of your businesses were
[879]
closed for quite a period of time
[881]
it's also important to show that you're
[883]
reopen again
[885]
sounds basic but you'd be amazed how
[887]
many businesses make the same mistake
[889]
um if you don't let people know up front
[892]
that you're reopen for business
[893]
you'll risk potentially missing out on
[895]
customers because they think your
[896]
business is still shuttered
[900]
then you want to make sure that at this
[901]
point in time your business info and
[903]
more specifically your attributes are
[905]
correct
[906]
put yourself in the shoes of your
[907]
customer someone in singapore
[910]
is going to google to look for a takeout
[912]
food option as an example
[914]
if you don't let them know upfront that
[916]
you offer take
[917]
out the chances you may miss out on
[919]
their custom
[922]
you can also share a post or more
[924]
specifically a coveted 19 related post
[927]
this post works in the same way as
[929]
you're used to in social media
[930]
and it will show when someone opens your
[932]
listing in google maps or google search
[935]
in this post you can communicate about
[937]
your updated opening hours
[938]
or new measures that you're taking in
[940]
light of covert 19
[941]
such as increased hygiene standards
[944]
social distancing etc
[946]
uh also you could for example promote to
[949]
customers to buy a gift card or voucher
[951]
for your business at this point in time
[954]
and as you may be facing you know drops
[956]
in overall
[957]
football and sales the difference
[960]
between a regular post and a copic 19
[962]
post
[962]
is that covet 19 posts stand out a
[964]
little bit more and
[965]
covered 19 posts have a sort of frame
[967]
around it as you can see on the picture
[969]
on the right
[972]
now as we all know driving your business
[974]
recovery is key right now
[976]
and there are a number of ways you can
[977]
leverage google my business to fuel this
[980]
as an example you can create a socially
[982]
responsible virtual event
[984]
and when it becomes feasible again uh
[986]
one in premises and promote this by an
[988]
events post
[990]
you can also create an offer to push
[991]
your latest brands uh
[993]
brands deals or attract new customers
[998]
finally it's really important that you
[999]
leverage the insights that gmb provides
[1001]
to fuel your decisions
[1003]
because many customers find your
[1005]
business on google search and maps
[1007]
insights focus on how they arrived there
[1009]
and what they've done once they find
[1011]
your listing
[1012]
so you can see things like search
[1014]
queries they use to arrive at your
[1015]
profile
[1016]
where customers find you on google the
[1019]
actions they took like direction
[1020]
requests
[1021]
phone calls and on what your business is
[1023]
known for overall
[1025]
and you can get these insights on an
[1027]
individual or bulk
[1029]
bulk listing basis and they really are
[1032]
super valuable insights that will be
[1033]
able to fuel your future strategies and
[1036]
decisions
[1038]
okay so that's everything i had to cover
[1040]
today i want to rap by sharing a quick
[1042]
recap
[1043]
of how to get your business online with
[1044]
gmb and how it can help you to drive
[1046]
your business forward during this
[1047]
uncertain time
