Wealthfront Review 2018: The Easiest Way to Invest - YouTube
Channel: William Armstrong
[0]
Alright, so far I've explained the
power of compound interest and I told
[3]
you why you need to invest your money , so if at this point you still aren't sold
[7]
and you aren't planning on investing
your money, let me tell you this.
[10]
I've stumbled upon the easiest way to invest your money. Now what I'm going to explain
[14]
today is called Wealthfront
and they have quite a few competitors
[17]
but I started using wealthfront just to
try it out a couple months ago and so
[21]
far I have had excellent returns and a
great experience. So if you are someone
[27]
who doesn't want to take a hands-on
approach who knows they should invest
[30]
their money, but they don't want to have
any hassle they just want to have
[34]
someone invest their money for them, then this is a great option.
[38]
Now Wealthfront is a robo-advisor
and there's been a huge trend in
[43]
robo-advisors lately because they're easy to use and they have low fees, but
[48]
wealthfront has been the one that I've
been experimenting with and I will put a
[52]
link in the description if you're
interested. They have an excellent
[55]
website and a lot of information. I read up a lot on the company and I think their
[60]
investment principles are fantastic. They
kind of take a more conservative
[64]
traditional approach so I'll walk through this because I
[69]
want you to see how the platform works. I
just want to show you what it would look
[74]
like if you created an account and so
that way if you decide that you do want
[78]
to invest your money, you can see how
easy it is and how good the returns
[81]
actually are. So with that said, let's get
started. So if you click on my
[86]
path up here at the top, it's just gonna
take you to the dashboard. This is what
[89]
it looks like when you log in every time.
Alright, so we're gonna go over to
[93]
accounts now. This is just where you can
go to all of your different accounts so
[99]
right here, this is your personal account.
This is your Wealthfront account. When
[103]
you deposit money into Wealthfront, this
is where it goes. They're gonna invest
[107]
the money for you so you can see that I
started back November 9th with $500 and you can
[113]
see the top line here is how much your
portfolio is worth and the blue line is how
[119]
much you've actually deposited. So we can see I've added quite a bit of money since
[123]
then. You can see that as right now
I have $4,200 invested and my portfolio is
[129]
worth $4,363 so I'm up about $163.72.
[134]
which is outstanding. You can see
that my money weighted return is 9.61%
[140]
which is fantastic. So this is the actual portfolio that
[145]
they invest in. When you go down, you can see how it's actually broken up so
[150]
I have 34% stocks and 24%
foreign stocks so you can see they have
[155]
it diversified across US stocks, foreign
stocks, emerging market, dividend, natural
[159]
resources, and bonds. Now notice down here, my risk score is 8.5. I'm
[165]
gonna go over this later but when you're
registering for an account, this goes
[168]
back to my risk tolerance video, if you
haven't seen that check it out, but
[171]
they're gonna ask you a couple questions
to kind of gauge what your risk score is
[176]
and that's gonna determine what you're
actually invested in. So I have a higher
[180]
risk tolerance so I have more invested
in stocks whereas someone with a lower
[185]
risk tolerance is gonna have more
invested in bonds. You can also click on
[189]
here and it's very transparent. You know
what they're investing and although you
[193]
don't have control over what they invest
in, you can see what they are investing
[197]
in. So you can click here on the Charles
Schwab ETF and see what that's invested
[202]
in. So if we go down here we can see that
it's invested in Apple, Microsoft,
[209]
Amazon, Facebook. Those are the top
holdings. You could go down here and see
[213]
other competitors that are leading the
industry and you can do that for all of
[220]
these, so bonds, you can see what bonds
they're investing in. Very transparent,
[224]
you know what they're investing in and
you can also see how each one is doing.
[230]
So on the right hand side here, we have
tax loss harvesting which all of these
[236]
if you don't know what they mean or you
forget what they mean, it gives you a
[239]
nice description of all of them. So they
have daily tax loss harvesting which
[243]
will help you when tax season comes around. That's a really nice feature to have. You
[248]
don't need to worry about direct
indexing unless you have more than a
[250]
$100,000 in there. Some people
like to put their 401ks or IRAs in here
[254]
which is also really nice and one thing
that I have turned on is automated
[260]
deposits. So in the last video, I
mentioned that automation can really
[264]
help you with dollar cost averaging. Now
this is really nice because I have it
[268]
set to invest a certain amount at the
end of the month every single month so
[272]
it doesn't matter if the markets up or
down. I know that at the end of the month,
[275]
this much is being invested and they
also have commission free trading
[279]
which is really nice because the fees
are low and I'll talk about the fees in
[283]
a little bit. Down here, it's just your
performance which I already showed. You can
[288]
click on years. I haven't had it long
enough to really have it broken down by
[293]
the year. This is cool because it tells
you when you have any tax loss
[298]
harvesting done or you have any
dividends or when you invested when
[304]
recurring deposits were invested, so it
really keeps you up to date on your investment.
[307]
Down here on linked accounts, so
the other thing that's nice about
[313]
Wealthfront is it's kind of like an aggregate for
[316]
all of your investments so instead of
having to go to your banking app, your
[320]
Wealthfront app, if you have maybe a
different platform that you invest from,
[325]
you can link them all in this account so
when you log on you can see your total
[329]
net worth. Now I have my other
investments turned off for this video so
[334]
this $4,364 is just what I have in my
Wealthfront account but if you go down
[341]
here to your linked accounts,
you can link your bank account, you can
[346]
link your credit cards, so it'll subtract
what you owe on your credit cards, you can
[350]
link any real estate, you can link if you have fidelity or any other
[356]
investment platforms, and
it'll total all of your assets up and
[360]
put it here in your net worth. So it's
super easy to link an account, all you do
[364]
is click link account. I have PNC so click here and just log in like you do
[370]
online for PNC and it connects it in probably 30 seconds to a minute. It's very easy.
[378]
This is the dashboard so I guess we'll
go over the dashboard now. I don't
[383]
really have the retirement feature set
up, but what you do is you can set up
[387]
your retirement. It'll ask you some
questions and will tell you what your
[390]
net worth will be at retirement.
Now this factors in your investment
[395]
returns so if you have any recurring
deposits set, it'll tell you how much
[400]
you'll have at each age so that's a
really cool feature and they are adding
[403]
some more features like buying a home
saving for college,
[405]
some nice milestone things.
[415]
Over here you can see that
they recommend how much to save a month
[422]
so I actually haven't looked too
much into what this is.
[433]
Okay so we don't have to worry about
that too much but they make it really
[437]
easy to invest your first amount. Now
there is a $500 minimum
[441]
to invest in Wealthfront so that
means that if you're gonna, invest you
[445]
have to have at least $500 but that's where I started and
[448]
it's been doing really well so far.
Another option is you can transfer from
[453]
another brokerage, so if you are using
fidelity Charles Schwab, It'll trade
[457]
whatever you're using. You can transfer
over to Wealthfront for free. Okay moving
[463]
along the top you can see they have
documents. Like I said, it's very transparent.
[467]
They're gonna give you everything you
need for tax season along with your
[472]
trading history. You can see any pending
transactions or transactions that have
[476]
occurred in the past so you have a
complete history of everything that's
[483]
happening
and like I said, transferring cash is
[488]
really easy. So the reason that I say
this is the easiest way to invest your
[492]
money is because registering account
takes probably a half hour or less, you
[497]
just do it online. All you have to do to
start investing is connect your bank
[502]
account and transfer the funds which
usually clear within a day or two. It's
[506]
so easy. So all you do is hit invest your
money, you're gonna link your bank
[510]
account, you're gonna say how much you
want to transfer, and then you're gonna
[513]
deposit it, and like I said it does not
take too long, so it is incredibly easy to get started.
[522]
Okay so there you go, that is the dashboard. That is pretty much the main layout of Wealthfront.
[526]
As you can see, some of the pros are
that you can link all your accounts, the
[530]
returns have been outstanding, it makes
it so easy to get started to invest in
[536]
recurring deposits, there are a lot of
pros. Like I said, I agree so much with
[540]
their investment methodologies and their
strategies. I think that they're a very
[544]
intelligent company and they're doing a
fantastic job. Now what I do want to go
[549]
over real quickly is the fees and I want
to talk about the referral link that I'm
[555]
gonna put in the description if you are
interested. So Wealthfront fees are
[560]
point 0.25% a year which is
incredibly cheap and that's another Pro
[566]
to using Robo-advisors. It is very cheap for them to keep track your money so with
[574]
this referral link, they give you your
$10,000 free in
[577]
assets managed for life so if you have
$10,000 in there you will
[581]
never have a fee on it for the rest of
your life. Now, if you use my referral
[584]
link, they will give you an additional
$5,000 in assets managed
[589]
for free. So if you sign up through my
link, you will have $15,000
[593]
managed for free for life which is an
excellent deal, but like I said, you do
[597]
need that $500 minimum to
get started. So look out for that link in
[601]
the description and I highly encourage you to look over their site if you are
[606]
interested in investing.
You can just do that by going to
[621]
www.wealthfront.com. Like I said, I've
had a fantastic experience with Wealthfront.
[647]
I know there are competitors like Betterment and Acorns which I also really love, WealthSimple,
[653]
but like I said, I've used
Wealthfront and it's been great so far.
[657]
Check it out if you're interested and I
will give you an update on my progress
[663]
in the future, probably a couple months
from now, but so far I've made over $100
[668]
and I'm up about 9%, so about
$163.00 on a
[672]
$4,000 investment, so with said, that's a review of Wealthfront.
[677]
Hands down the easiest way to invest
your money. You can get started today and
[680]
have your funds trading in less than, you
know, a couple days and you can do it all
[685]
online. So I encourage you to sign up and
I'll see you in the next video!
