[0]
hello in this video I'm going to show
[2]
you how to set up your Canon Rebel T 7
[4]
oreos mm D straight out of the box
[10]
[Music]
[16]
first let me tell you about the guide we
[18]
have for the Revell t7 it's a really
[21]
useful introduction to the camera and it
[23]
also tells you about other similar
[25]
cameras which are available on the
[26]
market today it's an entirely free
[29]
download and you can get it by clicking
[31]
here or in the description below and
[33]
we'll send it to you absolutely free and
[36]
straight away
[41]
well the first thing I'd like to say is
[44]
that if you have bought this canon t7 or
[46]
EOS mm D then you have bought an
[49]
excellent DSLR camera the main
[53]
difference between this camera and the
[55]
canon t6 or 1300 D is the file size and
[59]
now the 24 megapixel file size which is
[62]
in this camera puts the t7 on a par with
[66]
the best cameras in its category and so
[69]
you have got no excuse for not taking
[71]
some great pictures with this camera
[74]
okay
[76]
so let's set the camera up properly the
[78]
first thing you need to do is to charge
[80]
your battery now you probably got the
[83]
battery when you bought the camera and
[84]
the first inclination of course is to
[86]
put the battery in and start taking
[87]
pictures but it is recommended to charge
[91]
the battery fully before you put it into
[94]
the camera and the reason for that is it
[96]
will help to extend the battery life it
[100]
only takes three or four hours and it's
[102]
worth doing if it helps extend the
[104]
battery life and you don't have to buy a
[106]
new one so charge your battery and then
[109]
if we look here I'll just turn this
[112]
around so we can see it this is where
[114]
the battery goes into the bottom of the
[115]
camera you open the door like this and
[118]
if you look at the battery then you see
[121]
that you've got the electrodes on one
[123]
end and there'll be a Canon logo on the
[126]
battery so you have the electrodes
[128]
facing the camera and the logo facing
[131]
you and it will go in like that now like
[135]
most modern batteries it will only go in
[138]
one way
[138]
so if it doesn't go in very easily then
[141]
the chances are you've got it in the
[143]
wrong way around and when it goes in it
[146]
will click with this clip here that
[148]
keeps the battery in and when you want
[150]
to take the battery out you just undo
[153]
the clip and it bounces out the second
[156]
thing to do is to put in your memory
[159]
card now most professionals that I know
[163]
tend to use SanDisk memory cards and
[166]
there's one good reason for that and
[168]
that is that most of these cards have a
[170]
lifetime guarantee that means that if
[173]
the disc gets damaged or
[175]
corrupted in any way that's not through
[177]
negligence then SanDisk will replace the
[181]
card it's worth bearing in mind though
[184]
that they will not replace the content
[186]
on the card because they don't know what
[188]
that is obviously so if you've got a 16
[191]
gigabyte card and you've got 10
[193]
gigabytes of information videos and
[196]
stills on it and then it becomes
[198]
corrupted they will only replace the
[200]
card and that is an important lesson to
[203]
learn right from the start and it's a
[206]
good idea in fact it's almost essential
[208]
to have somewhere where you can keep
[211]
these pictures and videos permanently
[215]
and safely and that usually means it's
[218]
an external hard drive but at least when
[221]
you have shot some pictures it's a good
[223]
idea to put them into your desktop on on
[226]
a laptop or onto your desktop computer
[228]
at least to keep them safe but an
[231]
external hard drive really is
[233]
recommended but this is the card and
[236]
likewise it has the electrical
[238]
conductors here and it has the logo on
[241]
the front and if you put it this way so
[244]
that the logo faces you and it goes into
[246]
that little slot above the battery then
[249]
you can just slide it in again and shut
[252]
the door and that is your camera with
[255]
the battery and the memory card now the
[260]
next thing you need to do is put on the
[263]
lens this is the kit lens that came with
[266]
the camera
[267]
it's an EFS 18 to 55 millimeter kit lens
[271]
which is a pretty good lens and it's
[273]
certainly a very good starter lens it
[275]
gives you a lot of scope to take lots of
[277]
different types of pictures this Canon
[280]
camera is an aps-c camera which means
[283]
it's a crop frame camera now there are
[287]
two types of camera for DSLRs
[289]
essentially for 35 mils anyway it's a
[292]
full-frame or it's a crop frame this is
[296]
a crop frame camera which means that the
[298]
sensor is slightly smaller than a full
[301]
frame and the advantage for that for us
[303]
anyway is that the camera is
[306]
a lighter and the lenses are smaller and
[310]
lighter and the quality is still wealth
[313]
professional level quality now this
[317]
camera will take either EFS or EF lenses
[320]
but the recommended lens group for this
[323]
is the EFS group of lenses and when you
[327]
change your lens now or in other times
[330]
try to keep the camera in such a way
[333]
that dust and dirt can't drop into it
[336]
the reason for that is that the sensor
[339]
inside of here is very sensitive and if
[342]
it gets dust and dirt on it then it will
[344]
damage not just the sensor but it will
[347]
affect your pictures and your videos and
[349]
it's incredibly difficult to clean so
[352]
the recommendation is that you don't
[355]
leave the camera open any longer than it
[357]
needs to be open and that you keep it
[360]
facing roughly downwards to prevent
[362]
anything dropping into it so let's just
[365]
take this off the lens to start off with
[368]
and then we'll take the front cover off
[372]
the camera keeping it slightly facing
[374]
down now if we look at the lens there's
[376]
a square here white square and if we
[379]
look on the ring here there's a white
[381]
dot and you need to just marry those up
[383]
and turn it clockwise until you hear the
[386]
click once it's clicked it means it's
[389]
fixed onto the camera and because it is
[392]
an EFS lens it's now communicating with
[395]
the camera and so it will help with
[397]
autofocus and auto exposure the next
[401]
thing you need to do is switch it on
[404]
when you want to go into the menus in
[407]
the camera it's very important to make
[409]
sure that you're on manual mode and the
[411]
reason for that is that when you press
[413]
menu button you get all the menu tabs
[416]
going across the top if for any reason
[419]
you were on a different semi-automatic
[422]
or a completely automatic option then
[425]
when you press the menu options you
[428]
don't get all the tabs going across the
[430]
top and so it is important to be in
[432]
manual when you start to change things
[434]
inside your camera the first time the
[438]
camera is switched on
[440]
the screen will ask you to set the date
[442]
the time zone and the language the date
[445]
and time information will be added to
[446]
the metadata for each image that you
[448]
shoot you can change these details by
[452]
using the cross keys and pressing set
[456]
once you've set the time and date you
[458]
can now set the date format either the
[461]
UK version which is date month and year
[465]
or you can choose a different one either
[467]
year month and date or month date and
[470]
year once you've chosen the one you want
[475]
you press that again and then you go on
[478]
to daylight saving time and you go on to
[481]
the time zone and region once everything
[484]
is correct you can just press ok if you
[493]
want to go back at any time to change
[495]
the time the date or the language you'll
[498]
find them in setup tab - the next thing
[502]
you need to do is format your card if
[505]
it's a new card or a card that you've
[507]
taken from a previous camera it's really
[510]
important to format it so that the card
[512]
and the camera will work together the
[515]
way you do that is by pressing menu and
[517]
then moving up to setup tab 1 and here
[521]
you can see format the card now the
[524]
important thing to remember here is when
[527]
you format the card you will lose
[529]
everything even pictures and videos
[532]
which you may have protected will be
[535]
deleted so you must know that everything
[538]
that's on the card has either been
[539]
copied or is something that you don't
[541]
want before you format your card but if
[545]
you are happy to do that
[546]
then you click OK and it will format the
[550]
card and prepare it for use by this
[552]
camera
[562]
the next thing to do is to look through
[564]
the viewfinder and to see if what you
[567]
can see through it look sharp
[568]
if you don't have 20/20 vision or if you
[571]
wear glasses then even though the
[574]
autofocus on the camera gets the picture
[576]
absolutely sharp when you're looking
[578]
through the viewfinder
[580]
it may look out-of-focus by using that
[583]
dioptre adjuster here you can change the
[586]
view through the viewfinder so that it
[589]
is sharp when the camera says it's sharp
[591]
to bear in mind that if you have the
[594]
lens on autofocus the camera will
[596]
automatically focus the image even if it
[599]
doesn't look sharp to you through the
[601]
viewfinder if you find the brightness of
[607]
the LCD monitor either too bright or too
[609]
dark then you can change that by going
[612]
to setup tab - if you click on LCD
[621]
brightness then you can choose to either
[622]
make it brighter or darker
[636]
however do remember that the optimum
[639]
setting for checking exposure on the
[641]
live view screen is for there's nothing
[645]
more irritating than the camera
[647]
switching itself off when you're still
[649]
trying to compose a picture whilst it
[652]
helps to save the battery life it can
[654]
interrupt your train of thought and slow
[656]
you down you can change the length of
[659]
time it takes for the camera to turn off
[661]
by going to setup tab 1 and choosing
[670]
auto power off here you see you'll have
[673]
a choice between 30 seconds and 15
[675]
minutes and you can disable it
[677]
completely if you choose I find that
[680]
setting it to one minute is a good
[682]
compromise the ISO setting manages the
[686]
sensitivity of your sensor to the light
[688]
coming into the camera the Canon t7 will
[692]
be on auto ISO setting to begin with
[695]
which is very convenient in most cases
[697]
however you will want to control this at
[700]
some point not least because the ISO
[702]
setting has a direct impact on the
[704]
quality of your image it's easy to
[707]
control the ISO by using the Cross Keys
[709]
press the top one labeled ISO and the
[712]
ISO options will appear on the LCD
[715]
screen as a rule of thumb is o 100 to
[719]
400 is suitable for sunny or bright
[722]
light 400 to 1600 for overcast or dusk
[726]
and 1600 to 6400
[729]
for low-light and nighttime shots the
[733]
next thing to consider is the file size
[734]
and compression ratio the Canon c7 will
[738]
shoot a 24 megapixel file and that's a
[740]
very high quality image the JPEG
[743]
compression rate will decide the quality
[746]
of the image when it's stored on your
[747]
memory card and also how many images you
[750]
can save on your card
[752]
obviously it's best to choose the best
[755]
compression rate to make the choice go
[759]
into shooting tap 1 and go to the top
[762]
choice which is image quality you'll see
[765]
that this is on large which is 24
[767]
megapixels
[769]
the quarter circle next to the L
[771]
represents the best compression quality
[775]
you can see here that I can say 448
[779]
images like this if I move down 1 2
[783]
medium compression quality you will see
[785]
that that number goes up to 915 even
[790]
though the file stays the same size if I
[794]
change the file size from large to
[796]
medium with best compression quality the
[799]
number of images I can save changes
[801]
again and if I change that to medium
[805]
compression the number goes up again
[808]
however because today you can buy very
[811]
large memory cards I prefer to choose
[814]
large file size and best compression
[817]
quality if you want to know more they
[821]
might not take a look at our manual
[822]
which has been specially written for
[824]
