[6]
okay now we look at
[7]
ancillary benefits ancillary is just a
[11]
fancy word for
[12]
dental and vision okay um so
[16]
first you had your major medical now
[18]
you're looking at ancillary benefits
[20]
dental and vision coverage okay
[24]
dental insurance can work one of two
[27]
ways there's two ways that
[28]
you can use dental insurance
[32]
now personally i think dental insurance
[34]
is highly overvalued
[36]
from an employee's perspective simply
[38]
because when it comes to
[39]
insurance a lot of times people
[42]
just want to know that it's there and
[43]
that they have it but they
[45]
might not know exactly how it works
[48]
dental insurance
[49]
the way that it's typically structured
[51]
is kind of in the reverse
[53]
of health insurance where health
[55]
insurance you have a deductible
[56]
that you have to pay and then out of
[58]
pocket max that you have to pay up to
[61]
but you know you could have a million
[62]
dollars of you know bills but you would
[65]
only get maxed out of paying
[67]
five thousand dollars if that was your
[68]
max out of pocket
[70]
it's the reverse on dental when you have
[73]
a maximum out of pocket on your dental
[74]
coverage and you'll typically see plans
[76]
with a fifteen hundred dollar
[78]
maximum out of pocket that's generally
[80]
what you'll see
[83]
that is the most that your plan will
[86]
actually pay
[87]
for you towards coverage so if you had
[90]
five thousand dollars in bills and you
[93]
had like major work that needed to be
[94]
done
[95]
typically what would happen on a
[97]
standard dental plan would be
[100]
they would cover fifty percent of
[103]
the costs up to
[107]
fifteen hundred dollars of them paying
[109]
so once they hit once your bill hit
[110]
three thousand dollars
[112]
that would max out but if you were on
[114]
them if you had a 5 000
[115]
bill from the dentist for major work you
[118]
would have
[120]
your 1500 to pay and then you'd have
[123]
another 2000 to pay
[125]
after that because your plan only
[127]
covered 1500
[128]
um and 50 right so
[132]
um and traditionally if there's a
[135]
deductible with the plan that means that
[136]
again same as major medical you have to
[138]
pay 100
[139]
of that so you may pay you know fifty
[141]
dollars or
[142]
three hundred dollars and then your plan
[143]
kicks in but it only pays fifty percent
[146]
for major work eighty percent usually
[148]
for basic and then like a hundred
[150]
percent
[151]
for your annual cleaning so twice a year
[153]
every six months when you get your
[154]
cleanings
[155]
usually those are free maybe x-rays as
[157]
well
[158]
there's also dental indemnity plans
[161]
you'll see those with a company like an
[163]
aflac where
[166]
it's actually just a service where you
[168]
can actually put it on top of your
[169]
dental plan to have extra coverage
[171]
along you know with your traditional
[173]
dental where
[174]
you may take a plan and you have that
[179]
in that scenario where you had five
[180]
thousand dollars of work done
[183]
and your one plan only covered 1500 you
[186]
have another plan on top of it that
[187]
actually just
[188]
is more of an indemnity program where it
[190]
just has a set amount of
[191]
cash value that it will pay for each
[194]
specific service
[195]
up to another you know fifteen hundred
[198]
to two thousand dollars so
[200]
something like if you had a couple
[202]
crowns that needed done and maybe the
[204]
insurance company pays five hundred
[207]
dollars per crown
[209]
um the indemnity side of coverage
[211]
meaning
[212]
you had three crowns done they're going
[214]
to give you an additional 1 500 usually
[216]
you just give that
[217]
a card that you would have like with an
[219]
aflac to the dentist
[221]
and they would bill aflac directly and
[222]
affleck would just pay the dentist
[225]
and then you would also have your other
[227]
insurance maybe it's through delta
[229]
dental
[231]
you would also have delta dental cover
[233]
their portion and so it would be lesser
[235]
of a bill
[236]
or sometimes you just straight up use
[238]
something like an aflac program because
[240]
it
[241]
is a little cheaper and there's no
[242]
network involved
[244]
that is also another solution um
[248]
but aflac does also now i believe offer
[251]
group
[251]
dental plans like you would see with a
[253]
traditional delta plan
[255]
along with their indemnity plans so you
[257]
could actually use both
[260]
and then we look at vision okay vision
[262]
coverage is
[264]
very similar to dental coverage where
[269]
you know again i think in my humble
[271]
opinion
[272]
overvalued but
[276]
what it does is if you have something
[279]
like through vsp
[281]
who's probably the most common
[284]
vision provider is a yearly
[288]
allowance for an exam
[291]
or you'll have a you have a copay maybe
[293]
it's 20 bucks
[294]
where you go get an eye exam every year
[298]
and you'll pay 20 bucks and that's your
[299]
co-pay then it has an allowance for
[301]
frames and contacts and some will have
[304]
discount programs for things like lasik
[307]
but with those it's always good to weigh
[309]
out the
[310]
pros and cons of how much you're paying
[312]
into it how much you're going to use it
[313]
how much you even get out of it
[315]
for using it and then
[321]
it's it's it's kind of a wash if you do
[323]
end up using it but
[324]
employees in particular really
[327]
appreciate having
[328]
vision along with dental along with
[330]
health it's just kind of one of those
[332]
core things that they value
[335]
and when you get into the larger your
[337]
group is the cheaper
[338]
something like a vision plan may be it
[340]
might only be like four bucks a month or
[342]
five bucks a month
[343]
it just depends the size of the company
[345]
and the program that you're going
[346]
through and the extent of the benefits
[348]
but that's basically vision coverage in
[351]
a nutshell
[353]
there are some programs again like
[356]
through an
[356]
affleck that offer that part of the
[358]
vision coverage and they do offer some
[360]
sort of
[361]
insurance for any like injuries or
[363]
diseases
[364]
to your vision like if you lost eyesight
[368]
or you
[368]
got some sort of macular degeneration or
[372]
something where you started to lose
[373]
eyesight or
[374]
had some catastrophic event where you
[376]
would get paid
[378]
some sort of cash amount for that event
[382]
that's about the extent of vision
[388]

[390]
coverage
