How I Use tastyworks' Platform - A Quick And Simple Tutorial Using My Favorite Trading Platform - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
All right, in this video, I want to
[1]
show you how I personally use
[2]
tastyworks to place trades.
[4]
Now, this will not be one of these
[6]
hourlong tutorials.
[8]
It will be probably a 15 minute
[9]
tutorial that shows you the basics
[12]
of what you need to know to place
[13]
your first trades.
[15]
Because let's briefly recap.
[17]
In order to place a trade there's
[19]
five things that your broker
[21]
needs to know.
[22]
So, first of all, your broker
[24]
needs to know what do you want to
[26]
trade? The symbol, whether you're
[28]
trading a stock or an option
[30]
it doesn't really matter, right?
[31]
So secondly, you need to tell your
[33]
broker whether you want to buy
[36]
or sell. So I'll show you how to do
[37]
this. Now, third, your broker
[39]
needs to know how many shares
[41]
or options do you want to trade?
[43]
So the quantity here.
[45]
Number four, this is the fourth
[46]
thing that you need to know before
[48]
placing a trade or when placing a
[50]
trade is at what price
[52]
do you want to buy or sell?
[54]
And then number five
[56]
is the duration of the trade.
[57]
For how long are you trying
[59]
to buy or sell a stock?
[61]
Is it only for the day?
[62]
So there are two things.
[63]
It's either a day order or
[66]
it is a good till
[67]
cancel, which would be
[69]
a GTC order.
[71]
So let's start with the basics here
[73]
so that you know exactly how to
[75]
place a trade.
[76]
So when you open tastyworks, this is
[78]
what it looks like.
[79]
By the way, if you would like to
[80]
have more information on tastyworks,
[82]
go to Rockwelltrading.com/tastyworks.
[85]
This is where you'll find more
[86]
information we'll post the link in
[87]
the description. As you can see,
[89]
there is a watch list
[91]
on the left hand side and honestly,
[93]
I'm not using this at all.
[95]
So unfortunately, I haven't figured
[96]
out how to minimize this
[98]
watch list so it is just there.
[100]
For now I'm moving it off the screen
[102]
because there's not really a whole
[104]
lot that I'm doing with the watch
[105]
list, because this way we have a
[107]
little bit more room here for the
[108]
main screen.
[109]
OK. So, again, looking
[111]
at the five things that you need,
[113]
first of all, the question is where
[115]
do you buy or sell?
[117]
Where do you place the symbol?
[118]
And it is up here in the upper right
[120]
hand corner. So let's say if you
[122]
want to actually buy Tesla,
[124]
you type in Tesla right
[126]
there.
[127]
So here we are at positions.
[129]
And when you go to trade, so you
[131]
see you have three tabs here.
[133]
This is where you see your open
[134]
positions. So you see right now,
[136]
these are the positions that I'm in
[138]
TGTX and MUR and
[140]
you see how much is the open P&L
[142]
and how much is the P&L
[144]
for the day. But anyhow, if you want
[146]
to place a trade this is where
[148]
by default you see an
[150]
options chain because,
[152]
yes, tastyworks is mainly for
[154]
options trader but you can also
[155]
trade stocks.
[156]
Now in order to trade stocks it's
[158]
fairly easy.
[160]
You go up here and this
[162]
where you see it says either long
[164]
or, when you click on long, short
[166]
stock.
[167]
So when you click on Go, this
[169]
is when you see it pops up
[171]
this little order entry window that
[173]
you have here in the bottom right
[175]
now.
[176]
And now let's take a look what you
[177]
need to do and then I'm showing you
[178]
how to do this with options.
[180]
So after we place the symbol,
[183]
we need to say, do we want to buy or
[184]
sell at the quantity.
[186]
So let me show you here, you see buy
[188]
or sell.
[189]
Super easy.
[190]
This is how you buy, this is how you
[192]
sell, you see here the quantity
[194]
that you can change.
[195]
And you can either do it with these
[197]
arrows or you can just
[199]
override it and say you want to buy,
[201]
let's say 10 right here.
[204]
Ten shares of Tesla.
[205]
You can specify a limit price if you
[207]
want and then also say whether you
[209]
want to place a market order,
[211]
limit order, stop market, or
[213]
stop limit order.
[214]
If you're unfamiliar with the
[215]
orders, I did a video for you and
[216]
we'll post the link in the
[217]
description that shows you
[219]
how to use ,or when to use,
[222]
a stop order versus when to
[224]
use a limit order.
[225]
So as you can see, here is the time
[227]
in force.
[227]
And this is where the last
[229]
thing, the duration, whether you use
[231]
a day order or good to cancel
[234]
order you see it right here.
[236]
So you have day, you have good
[238]
till cancel, "Ext" means
[239]
extended hours so don't worry about
[241]
these, just worry about the first
[243]
ones.
[244]
So when you click on review and
[246]
send, you can review your order
[248]
so that you see how much does it
[249]
take up of your buying power, of
[251]
your stock buying power, your option
[253]
order and you can review the order
[255]
before you send it.
[257]
OK? Is this making sense?
[258]
So this is how you place a stock
[260]
trade. And I'm going to clear
[262]
this order right now, because now I
[263]
want to show you how to place an
[265]
option trade.
[266]
Now, if you're trading options, then
[268]
you know there's a little bit more
[270]
instead of just picking the right
[272]
symbol. So for option traders,
[275]
you need to know the expiration.
[277]
So by when shall
[279]
the option expire, you have to
[280]
specify whether you trade a call
[283]
or a put option, and
[285]
the strike price.
[286]
Now let me show you how to do this
[288]
on tastyworks.
[289]
Again, we're keeping it super easy
[291]
this is not meant to be an extensive
[292]
tutorial. I'm showing you the basics
[294]
so that you can enter an order
[296]
with confidence.
[298]
So here you see all the different
[299]
expirations for Tesla.
[301]
And you see, for example, you have
[302]
the July 24th expiration,
[304]
which is four days to expiration,
[306]
July 31st, eleven days to
[308]
expiration.
[309]
And you also see that there's
[310]
different colors.
[312]
The dark blue ones are
[314]
weekly options and the lighter blue
[316]
ones that you see here are
[318]
monthly options.
[319]
So let's say we want to buy
[321]
a call for Tesla.
[323]
We expect Tesla to skyrocket
[325]
and we're going to buy one for
[327]
$1,800.
[328]
So you see on the left hand side
[330]
there's calls, on the right hand
[331]
side they're puts.
[333]
So if you want to buy a call we just
[335]
click on the ask and now you see it
[337]
opens again this little window
[339]
here which makes it super easy
[341]
to say OK, how many do
[343]
you want to trade?
[344]
Because again, you need to say,
[347]
tell your broker do you want to buy
[348]
or sell this option?
[350]
How many options do you want to
[351]
trade? And at what price?
[353]
And you see, this is where you have
[354]
this little window popping up
[356]
that allows you to either say,
[358]
OK, you want to trade one, two
[360]
or three. You can also change the
[362]
quantity here.
[363]
See, now it says two options,
[366]
you have the price right here.
[368]
And then again, whether you use a
[369]
limit order or a market order.
[371]
When trading options, I recommend
[373]
using a limit order.
[374]
And again, I have a video on this.
[376]
So super easy and then the same,
[379]
you do review and send and it will
[380]
tell you how much of the stock
[382]
buying power or option buying power
[384]
you need. And here,
[386]
since Tesla is horribly expensive,
[388]
this small account that I'm trading
[390]
here on tastyworks does not
[392]
have sufficient buying power
[393]
available for this order.
[394]
Anyhow, so as you can see, it
[396]
is super easy if you now want to
[398]
sell an option instead of buying
[400]
it you can just click on this
[402]
and you see it changes from cell to
[404]
buy.
[405]
Really, really super easy.
[406]
Let's actually go to a stock that is
[408]
a little bit cheaper because then I
[410]
can show you some other cool stuff.
[412]
And let's go to Apple.
[414]
Let's just say Apple it's a little
[415]
bit cheaper here.
[416]
And Apple is trading right now
[418]
at $392.
[420]
Let's say we are bullish on Apple
[422]
and we expect Apple to go
[424]
above $420.
[426]
And so we want to buy an option
[428]
with a strike price of $420
[430]
right here and you see it
[431]
highlighted and it costs us
[433]
$6.10. So that's $610,
[436]
little bit easier here.
[437]
So, as you can see, super easy
[439]
to change the quantity.
[441]
You can just increase the quantity
[443]
here. Now you see B2 for
[445]
buying two, but you can decrease
[447]
the quantity.
[448]
And you can just click on this
[450]
and this is how you would sell,
[451]
instead of buying.
[452]
So as you can see, super easy.
[454]
Then you click on review and send
[456]
and this is how you would then send
[458]
the order and put it in the
[459]
marketplace.
[460]
As you can see, this is where I
[461]
wanted to show you, first of all,
[463]
how you enter orders.
[465]
Now, here is something cool that
[467]
I really like about tastyworks.
[469]
Because when you're entering an
[470]
order, you see it makes it super
[472]
easy, especially when you're an
[473]
option trader.
[474]
Let's say you want to see a
[476]
different strike price.
[477]
So here you can just drag
[479]
and drop it to other strike
[481]
prices. You see super easy.
[483]
So instead of changing the strike
[485]
price manually and typing it in,
[487]
you can just drag and drop it here
[488]
which makes it easy.
[490]
You can change the quantity here and
[492]
you can even go out in expiration
[494]
or come back in expiration.
[495]
So you see, when you click on this,
[497]
then the order moves to August
[499]
28th right there, instead of
[501]
August 21st.
[503]
When you click on minus, it comes
[504]
back to August 21st.
[506]
So I think this is actually
[508]
super cool.
[509]
You have the possibility to trade
[512]
more complex options strategies
[514]
but honestly, if you just
[516]
want to buy or sell options,
[518]
this is how easy it is
[520]
to do it. Again, if you would like
[521]
to have more information on
[522]
tastyworks go to
[523]
Rockwelltrading.com/tastyworks.
[526]
We'll post the link in the
[527]
description. But I also want to show
[528]
you a few other cool things
[530]
here. Again, that's super
[532]
easy how I use it here and then
[535]
on to under the activity, because,
[536]
again, we talked about these three
[538]
tabs. These are the three most
[540]
important tabs that you need and
[541]
that you use.
[542]
Here is where you have all your
[543]
positions, here is where you place
[545]
the trades, and the third tab, the
[547]
activity, this is where you see
[549]
what's going on.
[550]
As you can see, I have two working
[552]
orders.
[553]
I want to buy an option on CALX
[556]
for $1.60 and right now it is
[557]
trading at $2.35.
[558]
So I want to see that it is coming
[560]
back. And here I want to place
[562]
an order. I want to buy, I want to
[564]
buy a call.
[565]
I want to buy a call at $2.40 and
[567]
right now it is trading at $3.
[569]
So this is where you see your
[571]
working orders.
[572]
Now you see you have also not really
[574]
tabs here, but these are really
[576]
toggle switches.
[576]
So that's something that I found,
[579]
based on my experience, is unique
[581]
to tastyworks.
[582]
So if you want to see all of your
[584]
filled orders, you just click on
[586]
Filled and now you see both your
[587]
working orders and all
[589]
of your filled orders.
[590]
As you see, I'm an active trader,
[592]
so there's a lot of fills that I'm
[594]
having here in these accounts and
[596]
this is only two of
[598]
the 8 accounts that I
[600]
personally trade.
[601]
You can also see the canceled order,
[603]
and you see this where you toggle
[605]
them on and off.
[606]
If you only want to see the canceled
[608]
orders, you click again on filled
[610]
and working, this toggles it off and
[612]
now you see only the canceled ones.
[614]
So for me personally, I like to
[616]
see my working orders here
[618]
and sometimes I want to see on what
[620]
did I get filled.
[621]
And you can narrow it down on today,
[624]
so what orders did you get filled
[625]
on? So these were the orders that
[627]
I got filled on today.
[629]
TRGP, ANGI and
[631]
CEQP.
[632]
These were the orders and this
[635]
is where you place the working
[636]
orders.
[637]
So as you can see, super, super
[639]
easy. Now these are really
[641]
the basics. I want to show you some
[642]
bells and whistles here right now
[644]
because I think that there's some
[646]
cool stuff with the platform.
[647]
But let me just ask you this thus
[649]
far, is this making sense?
[651]
Is this helpful at all before I
[653]
go a little bit deeper?
[654]
Because my goal with
[656]
this little tutorial is to show
[658]
you how to place a trade
[660]
on tastyworks, whether it is a stock
[662]
or options trade in 10 minutes
[664]
or less. So.
[665]
And I will show you some other cool
[667]
features here. And if you're
[668]
enjoying this video thus far, do me
[669]
a favor and click on like really
[671]
quick, because this way I know which
[673]
videos you like and I'll do more of
[675]
those. And if you're new to the
[676]
channel, make sure that you hit that
[678]
little notification bell and click
[679]
on subscribe this way you get
[681]
notified whenever I release
[682]
a new video.
[684]
All right, so let's go back here.
[686]
Now, one of the other cool things
[687]
is that with tastyworks
[689]
you do have a charting platform.
[691]
So you can right now click here
[693]
on chart and you see a chart
[695]
of Apple, and you see there's some
[697]
cool tools here so you can
[699]
click on an hourly chart or you
[701]
can have a 15 minute
[703]
chart of Apple if you want to.
[705]
And all of these are live,
[707]
they are real time.
[708]
So when you're opening an account
[710]
with tastyworks, they give you free
[712]
real-time data.
[714]
So I think this is pretty cool.
[715]
You can plot some indicators
[717]
if you wanted to.
[718]
So, for example, if you like the
[720]
idea of plotting Bollinger
[722]
bands, you can just add
[724]
Bollinger bands, modify
[726]
the settings if you wanted to.
[728]
So you see, you have a pretty neat
[730]
charting platform here as well.
[732]
So that's what I wanted to show you,
[734]
it's one of the bells and whistles.
[736]
And as you can see, there's some
[738]
other tools where you can,
[740]
for example, draw trend lines,
[742]
right? So if you choose to to
[744]
draw a trend line like this,
[746]
I have plotted it right now here.
[748]
It's a little bit hard to see so you
[749]
need to configure it if you wanted
[751]
to use it. Now, I personally like
[753]
to use TradingView as my charting
[754]
platform, so I really don't
[756]
want to go into all the details
[758]
of charts.
[759]
It's pretty intuitive, so you
[761]
can definitely figure it out here.
[763]
No problem at all.
[765]
OK. So this is what you see down
[767]
here.
[767]
And then you can go back to trade
[770]
because especially when you're
[771]
trading options. And again, even
[772]
though you can trade stocks here,
[774]
the real power of tastyworks is
[776]
when you are trading options.
[778]
Because one of the things that you
[779]
can do is do an analysis.
[782]
For example, if you're buying this
[784]
particular option of Apple, you
[786]
see here, first of all, at a glance,
[788]
what is your probability of profit?
[791]
This is 19%.
[792]
So it's pretty low because we're
[794]
trading an out of the money call
[796]
option.
[797]
And you see, as you're moving it
[799]
closer into the money, your
[801]
probability of profit
[803]
moves higher.
[804]
You also see how much extrinsic
[806]
value it has.
[807]
And the probability of making at
[809]
least 50% on the option.
[811]
So here in this case that it moves
[813]
up from $7.50 to
[815]
roughly $11, right?
[817]
This would be a 50% profit.
[819]
So this is what you see here with
[820]
the P50.
[821]
You see the Delta, the Theta,
[824]
you see the maximum loss,
[825]
the maximum profit that you achieve,
[828]
and the buying power.
[829]
So you have everything at a glance
[830]
here where you can quickly compare
[833]
what makes more sense to buy a 425
[835]
option or maybe buy
[837]
a 400 option, 400
[839]
strike price, because then you see
[841]
the probability of profit is
[843]
32%.
[844]
The probability to make at least
[846]
50% of the option is 51%,
[849]
so it's actually pretty cool.
[850]
So but this is just the summary.
[852]
Now some of you options traders, you
[854]
love to have a curve.
[856]
So this is where we see exactly
[858]
ok, how much money would we
[860]
make or lose with this
[862]
option at different stock prices?
[865]
And this is an expiration here.
[867]
So you have a powerful analysis
[869]
tool and again, I don't want to go
[870]
into much detail.
[872]
If you're interested and want me to
[873]
cover anything else here
[875]
just let me know in the comments and
[877]
I'll be happy to do another video.
[878]
This, again, is just a very brief
[881]
intro video that shows you the main
[883]
functions here.
[884]
But it's actually pretty cool
[885]
because you can show the theoretical
[888]
zones here, the P&L,
[890]
theoretical, right for
[891]
what happens if the stock moves
[893]
to a certain price over
[895]
the next few days.
[896]
And again, I'll be happy to cover it
[898]
in a more detailed video.
[900]
But as you can see, there's some
[902]
cool analysis stuff here.
[904]
So besides just having the table
[906]
and here, quickly, the most
[908]
important information that
[910]
you need when trading options, at
[911]
least that's what I rely on, you can
[913]
really geek out
[915]
and dive deep here and have
[918]
a graphical and a visual analysis.
[920]
Now, this is pretty cool, especially
[922]
if you're trading more complex
[923]
options strategies.
[924]
So let's say you want to trade
[926]
a debit spread and you're buying
[928]
this call and at the same time,
[930]
you're selling a 4.10.
[932]
So this way, you go back to the
[934]
curve and you see, OK,
[936]
how does it change when you're
[937]
trading these two options,
[940]
when you're trading a spread?
[941]
And you see now you can even
[943]
change here, the strike
[945]
price. Look at this, isn't that
[946]
cool? I really like this.
[948]
I really like this I think it's
[949]
super intuitive so that
[951]
you see what if and you always
[953]
see here the probability of profit,
[955]
you see the probability of making
[957]
at least 50% on this trade.
[959]
The delta, the theta are the max
[960]
profit and the max loss.
[963]
Now, how do you like this?
[964]
And again, I'll be happy to do
[965]
another video in more detail here.
[968]
But let me just show you one
[970]
last thing in this
[971]
video here and this is how to
[973]
configure the columns.
[974]
Because this is something that I was
[976]
a little bit surprised in the
[977]
beginning and something to get used
[979]
to. When you're trading options, you
[980]
see the bid and the ask?
[981]
You always see this and then you
[983]
have two more columns that you
[985]
configure any way you want.
[987]
And here are all the possibilities.
[989]
So if you're an option trader and
[990]
you would like to know what the
[992]
delta of an option
[993]
you can display the delta here.
[996]
And then it's showing it both for
[997]
the calls and the puts.
[999]
You see, it's the same.
[1001]
We have now the bid/ask, Delta
[1002]
and the High.
[1004]
And if you want to display the theta
[1005]
of all the options, then you can
[1007]
change this here, you can just pick
[1009]
and choose from any of these and
[1011]
you're seeing the bid/ask,
[1013]
Delta and Theta and you see it for
[1014]
both the the puts
[1016]
and the calls.
[1017]
Now, at first I thought, well, I
[1019]
would like to display more columns
[1021]
and it is not possible.
[1022]
It is fixed, you can only display
[1024]
four columns, and out of these four
[1026]
columns, two are fixed.
[1027]
So it's something to get used to.
[1029]
So, for example, if you want to see
[1031]
the open interest, you have to
[1032]
replace the Theta column
[1034]
with open interest.
[1036]
I personally like to see where
[1038]
has the option traded for the day,
[1040]
where is the high and the low off
[1042]
the option.
[1043]
Because I usually don't like to
[1045]
to buy at the high and I don't
[1047]
like to sell at the low here.
[1049]
But again, you can configure it and
[1050]
it's something to get used to that
[1053]
you only have two customizable
[1055]
columns, that you cannot just show
[1057]
a bunch of columns here.
[1058]
This is what I'm used to from other
[1060]
trading platforms that I used in the
[1061]
past, mainly Interactive Brokers
[1064]
where I could add a lot of columns
[1066]
here. But here
[1068]
it is what it is. Anyhow,
[1071]
so as I promised, this is just
[1073]
a very quick introductory video
[1075]
on how to use tastyworks.
[1077]
And if you have any questions and
[1078]
would like to see me making some
[1080]

[1082]
details of the platform just leave
[1084]
