Best Day Trading Brokers in Canada- Questrade, Interactive Brokers, Thinkorswim, Wealthsimple & More - YouTube
Channel: Humbled Trader

what's the best day trading brokers for
[2]
Canadians
[3]
whether you are trading a small account
[5]
large account non-biased or short biased
[8]
trading stocks or options have the
[11]
answers for you in this video let me
[14]
clarify first I'm indeed a Canadian
[17]
living in Canada and I'm day trading and
[20]
investing in a US stock market I have
[23]
many different brokerage accounts for
[25]
day trading long and short swing trading
[28]
and longer term investing with TFSA an
[31]
RRSP and yes
[33]
I do have some free Commission trading
[35]
account as well so I'll dive into the
[38]
details of how to choose a broker as a
[41]
Canadian depending on your trading were
[43]
investing style and I'll compare the
[46]
different pros and cons of each broker
[48]
and if you enjoy videos like these make
[51]
sure to smash the like button to support
[54]
a fellow Canadian right here first let's
[57]
talk about quest rate which is perhaps
[60]
the most well known broker in Canada
[62]
quest rate is a broker I would recommend
[65]
for day trading large cap stocks and
[67]
options as well as swing trading and
[70]
longer term investing with RRSP or TFSA
[74]
but if you predominantly trade Lowe
[76]
floats small cap stocks do not use quest
[80]
rate have much better alternatives for
[83]
you later on quest rate has two
[85]
commission structures for the active day
[88]
trader accounts for the fixed rate you
[90]
have a flat fee of $5 per share and that
[93]
applies to whatever currency the stock
[96]
you're buying or selling it in so that's
[99]
either $4 u.s. or Canadian they also
[102]
have variable rates for 1 cent per share
[105]
to a maximum of $6.95 so depending on
[109]
your account size and the type of stocks
[112]
you trade you can have two flexible
[114]
options for fee structure to choose from
[117]
if you're day trading on quest trade
[119]
platform
[120]
you also need data subscription packages
[123]
for quest rate the owing one package
[126]
comes at a hefty price of $89.99 in u.s.
[131]
dollars or canadian depending on
[133]
you're trading but if you're a very
[135]
active trader those fees are easily
[138]
rebate able so that's definitely one of
[141]
the many things I love about quest rate
[143]
also their customer service is amazing
[145]
and you can easily reach them through
[148]
online chat I find the online chat
[151]
support extremely convenient and
[153]
beneficial especially when I'm doing
[155]
moving positions and funds around when
[159]
it comes to TFSA in our RSP personally I
[162]
use quests trade strictly for swing
[164]
trading large cap stocks and sometimes
[167]
options in my margin account and I also
[170]
have both TFSA and RSP as my long-term
[173]
investing accounts with them where I
[176]
just buy and hold US stocks in some ETFs
[179]
if you are thinking of opening a quest
[182]
trade trading or investing accounts you
[184]
can get some free commission trades
[186]
where you sign up through my referral
[188]
link down below now let's talk about
[190]
some of the cons for quest rate which of
[193]
course is their commission fees are more
[196]
expensive which doesn't really matter to
[198]
me personally since I'm using this as a
[201]
longer-term swing trading and investing
[204]
another thing is that they have terrible
[206]
stock availability when it comes to
[209]
shorting stocks so if you're looking for
[212]
a broker too short Interactive Brokers a
[215]
better option in my opinion so
[217]
interactive brokers actually the first
[220]
broker accounts I got when I first
[222]
started day trading six years ago and of
[225]
course what attracted me to interactive
[228]
brokers is just like most people is
[230]
their low commission fees basically the
[233]
cost for buying and selling u.s. listed
[235]
stocks is half a cent per share with a
[238]
minimum of $1.00 per trade and if you're
[241]
trading the Canadian stocks listed on
[244]
the TSX the cost will be one cent
[246]
Canadian per share with a minimum of $1
[250]
Canadian per trade and for options
[253]
trading the fees are pretty cheap as
[255]
well for most day traders trading in a
[258]
US equities market such as myself this
[261]
is what my subscription would look like
[263]
and adds up to about 22
[267]
dollars us a month this includes things
[270]
like equities and options quotes for
[272]
Nasdaq exchanges level-1 level-2 etc
[275]
next we have TD thinkorswim and before
[279]
you ask no there's no free Commission
[281]
trading and think or swim Canada nor do
[284]
we have that with Interactive Brokers
[286]
here either the only thing that's
[288]
Commission free is if you remember to
[291]
hit the like button at the bottom of the
[293]
video it's completely free to do and you
[296]
really help support this channel a lot
[298]
of Canadian traders didn't know this but
[301]
yes we can open think with swim accounts
[304]
with TD Waterhouse but the catch here is
[307]
the account minimum to get life market
[310]
data it used to be five thousand dollars
[313]
but unfortunately that's been raised to
[316]
twenty five thousand dollars sorry about
[318]
that guys but that means if you already
[321]
have a thinkorswim account like I do
[323]
don't ever take out that five thousand
[327]
dollars what I love most about thinkwe
[329]
swim is their powerful charting features
[332]
platform customizations and they're on
[335]
demand feature however the platform
[337]
executions in Canada comes with a not so
[340]
pretty price tag their trade
[343]
Commission's are a flat fee of seven
[346]
dollars US per trade that's a pretty
[349]
steep Commission price any of your
[351]
trading ten to twenty trades a day that
[354]
cost would definitely add up and that's
[356]
why I personally don't use think of swim
[359]
to place any trade executions I just had
[363]
the $5,000 sitting there to get life
[366]
market data and use the charts however I
[369]
will say though ever since they made
[371]
think with swim commission-free in the
[374]
US the entire platform has been
[377]
extremely laggy and there has been so
[379]
many times in the past few months where
[382]
all the charts just read so honestly I
[385]
would not recommend using thinkorswim
[387]
for Canadians to day trade especially
[390]
now that they raise their account
[392]
minimum to $25,000 oh and one last thing
[396]
I should remind you is that you can only
[398]
trade us lists
[400]
stocks on thinkorswim no Canadian stocks
[404]
sorry guys I gotta apologize like a good
[407]
old Canadian here next on the list is
[410]
trade zero international which is an
[413]
offshore broker in a Bahamas that's
[415]
known for the extensive locate list for
[418]
traders - short hard to borrow stocks
[421]
and yes they do allow Canadian traders
[424]
to open account so if you have a smaller
[427]
account and if you want to short these
[430]
hard to borrow stocks you can definitely
[432]
consider trade zero they're also known
[435]
for their low account minimums for as
[438]
low as $500 but how much you deposit in
[441]
the accounts will determine how much
[443]
leverage you get when you're day trading
[446]
personally I don't recommend opening an
[449]
account with less than four to five
[451]
thousand dollars I do have an account
[453]
with trade zero but I use it only as my
[457]
back up account when it comes to
[459]
shorting low float stocks I have a main
[462]
trading account for shorting which we'll
[464]
go over in just a little bit the biggest
[467]
reason I don't prefer to use trade zero
[469]
is because there's zero pro platform
[472]
executions are extremely konkey
[475]
sometimes the fills and the speed are
[477]
just a little bit off and if you're
[480]
trading larger size even one cent count
[483]
it doesn't happen often but all it takes
[486]
is once to ruin a trade on top of that
[489]
trade zero international they don't
[492]
provide easy and rebates and they're
[495]
just tons of fees that just eat up to
[497]
your profits every single month that
[499]
being said if you have less than $30,000
[503]
to found your accounts trade zero is
[505]
really the only option for Canadians who
[508]
focus on shorting hard to borrow stocks
[511]
just make sure you read all the fine
[513]
prints and the fee schedule I've done
[516]
the trade zero review and tutorial for
[519]
you to check out but if you're a baller
[521]
starting out with already over thirty
[524]
thousand dollars and if you want to
[526]
short hard to borrow stocks then I
[529]
highly recommend Centerpoint securities
[532]
they are the best bro
[534]
careful Canadians when it comes to
[536]
shorting low float stocks they're poor
[538]
Oh fees and commissions are mostly
[540]
reasonable and they offer easy and
[543]
rebates in addition you can also connect
[546]
your Centrepointe accounts to - trader
[549]
pro like I mentioned earlier it's the
[552]
best execution platform out there with
[555]
the fastest fills and market data speed
[557]
okay now let's finally talk about these
[560]
$0 Commission brokers now so many people
[564]
are asking me about and no there's no
[566]
weebo or Robin Hood for Canadians those
[569]
are for American users only I know
[572]
you've seen that have accounts with some
[574]
of these brokers and that's because I
[577]
used to study and work in a US and have
[580]
a status they're the only free
[582]
Commission trading app in Canada it's
[585]
called wealth simple trade but guess
[587]
what it's not meant for day trading and
[590]
wealth simple trades official website
[593]
they specifically say they discourage
[596]
day trading on their trading app and
[598]
making actually flag your trading
[601]
account and block transactions at their
[603]
discretion in addition to that if you
[606]
buy and sell us listed stocks you'll pay
[610]
a 1.5%
[612]
FX transaction fee both ways since the
[616]
app doesn't allow you to keep a u.s.
[618]
dollar balance so basically well simple
[621]
trade app is only good for swing trading
[624]
Canadian stocks which is what I do they
[628]
do not offer margin but they offer
[630]
either cash with TFSA accounts and to be
[634]
honest this app is for me to gamble and
[637]
have a few cannabis stocks here to play
[640]
with under the same brand umbrella
[642]
there's also wealth simple investing
[645]
which is their Robo investing service
[648]
focusing on ETFs of various sectors and
[651]
asset allocation according to your
[654]
personal risk tolerance this Robo
[657]
investing service is made for people who
[660]
want to just invest regularly and take a
[663]
completely hands-off approach and just
[666]
let the computer
[667]
we balance positions for them and yes I
[670]
do have a TFSA in RRSP account with them
[674]
for long term investing since I'm
[677]
actively day trading every single day
[679]
and I use that to generate my main
[682]
income
[682]
I want my investing to be very
[685]
stress-free
[686]
I'm autopilot and just half the
[688]
contributions made automatically each
[691]
month I've been very happy with the
[694]
service and the returns and I look at my
[696]
investments maybe once every six months
[699]
and I never touch anything
[701]
I know I talked about over six different
[703]
brokers for Canadians now for both
[706]
trading and investing so let me just
[709]
summarize it really quick for the best
[711]
brokers in my opinion for each trading
[714]
style and purpose if you're day trading
[716]
and predominantly long biased and small
[720]
caps I would use interactive brokers
[722]
large caps and options I would use
[724]
quests trade if you're short biased with
[727]
a small accounts trade zero big account
[730]
center point if you're looking to swing
[732]
trading and investing long term
[734]
including with tax advantage accounts I
[737]
would use quests trade or wealth simple
[740]
Robo investing if you have some money
[743]
sitting around to play here and there
[745]
for swing trading maybe wealth simple
[748]
trade now if you are rich and you don't
[750]
know what to do with twenty five
[752]
thousand dollars and you want to park it
[754]
somewhere and get some pretty looking
[757]
charts then I would open TD think of
[760]
swim if this video really helped you out
