[0]
- If you're anything like me
[1]
then your biggest fear as a car enthusiast,
[4]
is buying a car that's going to depreciate.
[6]
Not only is depreciation a complete
[8]
and utter waste of money,
[10]
it can slow your progression
[11]
of upgrading cars throughout your life.
[13]
So how does one exactly avoid depreciation without buying
[16]
some sort of expensive classic or exotic car?
[19]
Well, it may not be as hard as you think,
[21]
simply stick to cars that have come past
[23]
their depreciation curve
[24]
and are starting to see an uptick in value
[26]
or even just desire.
[28]
But how do you know what those cars are?
[29]
Well, let's talk about it.
[30]
This is my list of the top five best cars to buy right now
[34]
that are starting to go up in value.
[35]
But before we get started,
[36]
I got to remind you guys to subscribe
[38]
if you haven't already because we upload new videos
[41]
every day and you're not gonna be the first
[43]
to know about it if you're not getting notifications.
[45]
And as always,
[46]
don't forget to head over to Fitmentindustries.com
[48]
for all of your wheel tire and suspension needs.
[51]
And then I mentioned, we're giving away
[52]
a set of Konig wheels,
[54]
simply click the little box that just appeared
[56]
at the top right of your screen,
[57]
and pick up some of our awesome Konig apparel
[59]
and make sure to stick around
[60]
for the last car on this list,
[62]
because you're not going to believe what it is.
[64]
The early two thousands was a real good
[67]
and really weird time for enthusiast cars.
[70]
The sport compact segment was booming,
[72]
especially for non domestic manufacturers.
[75]
For young enthusiastic, pop culture icons,
[77]
like the fast movies and tuner magazines
[79]
really took brands like Honda
[80]
and put them on a pedestal.
[82]
I specifically remember sitting in the car
[83]
with my dad and I was like 13.
[85]
And I told him the serious face
[88]
that I wanted an EM1 Civic Si
[90]
because the black ones with green under low
[91]
in the first fast movie had me obsessed with tuning culture.
[95]
Now, when I actually started educating myself
[97]
on cars in general,
[98]
and found out that these cars
[99]
were just slightly more performance oriented economy cars,
[102]
things kind of changed.
[104]
However, we all seemingly have a place in our heart
[106]
for cars of that era.
[108]
And now that us who were influenced
[110]
by those automotive pop culture movements get older,
[113]
the demand for these cars and the nostalgia
[115]
that they bring us is rising.
[116]
And so following that is the pricing.
[119]
We wouldn't be doing this list any justice,
[121]
if we didn't start it off with Honda S2000.
[124]
The Honda S 2000 pretty well perfected the modern Roadster.
[127]
It was lightweight, it was nimble,
[129]
it made a very decent power for its time.
[131]
This concoction made it a near perfect driver's car,
[135]
sprinkle that with Hondas reliability
[137]
and the fact that it was nicer to look at
[139]
with quality and performance that was
[140]
greater than or equal to its German rivals for less money.
[144]
It's no wonder the Honda S2000 is now holding its value
[147]
more than its Z3m and Boxster S counterparts.
[150]
In fact, these cars have actually started
[152]
rising in value over the last couple of years.
[154]
It won't be long until this car starts
[156]
snowballing up in value.
[157]
So if you have the opportunity to buy one
[159]
or have been thinking about getting one, do it now
[162]
before it's too late.
[165]
The next one that's starting to see an uptick
[166]
in value and demand that nobody wants to talk about ,
[169]
is the Mark four Volkswagen R32.
[172]
The Mark four R32 is one of those cars
[173]
that never particularly performed super well
[176]
nor hasn't had any of that pop culture fame
[178]
outside of the Volkswagen scene.
[179]
In fact, it accelerates about the same
[181]
as the 180 horsepower 1.8 liter GPI,
[184]
even though it has a 240 horsepower 3.2 liter V6
[188]
and all wheel drive,
[189]
but it's not about numbers or all out performance here.
[193]
When you get inside of one of these cars,
[196]
it's like stepping into a different world.
[198]
The makes really decent torque
[199]
anywhere in its rev range .
[201]
And the way this car gives you
[202]
feedback through the steering,
[203]
gives you the utmost feeling of confidence.
[205]
Despite the Volkswagen golf getting bigger
[207]
and heavier over each generation,
[209]
this R32 is arguably the best Volkswagen
[211]
ever made at the time.
[212]
And they really haven't made anything to date
[214]
that sparks this much joy in a driving experience.
[216]
So while its performance specs don't really align
[220]
with what people are actually paying for these cars,
[222]
it really comes down to what these cars
[223]
provide owners and enthusiasts
[225]
from a pure driving pleasure standpoint.
[227]
I always talk myself out of buying one of these
[228]
because I can't bring myself to spend $12,000
[231]
on a 240 horsepower, 3,400 pound car
[235]
but every time I get in one
[236]
I completely fall in love and every time I see one,
[238]
I freak out like a little kid seeing a supercar.
[240]
It's the weirdest thing.
[241]
Anyway, these cars are on the up and over,
[243]
200,000 mile examples are fetching 10 to $14,000
[248]
and super low mile examples
[249]
are getting into the 50 and $60,000 range.
[253]
Do not underestimate the values of these cars.
[255]
If you've ever considered one of these, get into it now
[258]
and i guarantee you
[259]
you're going to be able to stack miles on it
[260]
and not lose any money,
[261]
especially if you get into one of the good colors.
[264]
Now, we all know that cars like the Mark 4 supra,
[267]
the FTR7, your skylines and even the 300 ZX twin turbo
[271]
has skyrocketed in value in the last five years
[274]
but one car that was on par with them at the time
[276]
in performance and Leads ahead in tech
[279]
was the Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4,
[281]
and the dark stealth RT twin turbo.
[284]
This 320 horsepower three liter could hold its own
[288]
in an all out brawl against these cars,
[290]
however, it's weight did hold it back on track.
[293]
But where the car did shine
[294]
was in its comfort and it's technology .
[296]
Close your eyes for a minute and pretend
[298]
it's the year 1989 in the 1990 Mitsubishi, 3000 GT VR4
[303]
just came out and you see a commercial
[305]
on the TV boasting about the cars full time,
[307]
all wheel drive system ,six speed manual transmission,
[310]
twin turbo, three liter engine, four wheel steering,
[313]
selectable electronic adaptive damping suspension,
[317]
active arrow and even variable exhaust.
[319]
Frigging 1990, guys, this is the stuff
[322]
you don't even see outside of high end cars to date.
[325]
Essentially what I'm getting at is this is
[326]
the last Japanese super touring car
[329]
to not explode in value.
[331]
We saw this happen with the 300 ZX turbo recently as well.
[334]
These cars are the last of their kind
[335]
and the prices of these have started to mature
[337]
in the last couple of years.
[339]
I'm absolutely convinced that these are going to explode
[341]
into a bubble of unobtainable pricing
[343]
in the next five years; don't sleep on these.
[346]
Next up is another German icon,
[348]
for the 2000 model year,
[349]
the U.S finally got the B5 Audi S4.
[352]
The 2.7 liter twin turbo V6 boasting just 250 horsepower,
[356]
but this car's performance was less about peak numbers
[359]
and what it actually did with what it had.
[362]
These cars have a tremendous power bank,
[364]
a fantastic Sound Quatro all wheel drive,
[366]
and a six speed manual transmission.
[368]
But much like the Volkswagen R32,
[370]
the cars Popularity came from providing
[372]
an engaging driving experience
[374]
rather than some pop culture movements
[376]
or large marketing strategies.
[378]
The styling of these cars has seemed to age incredibly well
[381]
and the sizing of these cars is something of perfection.
[383]
But what sets this car apart from the R32
[386]
is the two KO three turbos strapped to these very things.
[390]
Making these cars extremely tuneable.
[393]
With factory boost came factory forced internals
[395]
and our transmission that can handle all the extra power.
[398]
These cars are pretty well engineered
[399]
and are a great platform to make some decent power
[401]
without even having to open up the engine.
[403]
Couple that with the practicality of a sedan
[405]
and even a station wagon with luxurious build quality
[408]
and great color options,
[410]
you have yourself a future classic.
[412]
In fact, the bright colored versions of these cars
[414]
are very quickly demanding increasingly large prices.
[417]
This is another one of those cars
[418]
that is on the verge of exploding in value
[420]
that you need to get on before they're gone.
[423]
And last but not least,
[424]
we're gonna close this list out with none other than
[427]
a Mustang, more specifically in SN95 Mustang
[430]
but even more specific than that ,
[432]
a Mustang created by the madman over at SVT.
[435]
The 2003, 2004 SVP Cobra dub the Terminator ,
[439]
is possibly one of the best of worst cars
[441]
you can invest in for under $20,000.
[444]
So what the (bleep) do I even mean
[445]
by the best worst car?
[447]
Well, at the end of the day,
[448]
it is a 2000 era Mustang,
[450]
which means cheap plastics and interior design
[452]
that's been used since 1994
[454]
and a crooked to the left steering wheel angle.
[457]
Try on seeing that next time you get
[458]
in any Ford from this era.
[460]
But you do get is a dual overhead cam iron block 4.6 liter
[464]
with forced internals and a big old blower
[466]
strapped to the top.
[467]
The Terminator Cobra is quite literally
[469]
the domestic super of it's time,
[471]
slap a bigger blower and some basic bolt-ons to these cars
[474]
and you're gonna be looking at a 700 wheel horsepower car
[476]
without opening the engine.
[477]
But the upgrades don't stop there,
[479]
these cars got a T 56, six speed transmission.
[482]
Like the ones you find in Vipers,
[483]
Aston Martins, Corvettes and CTSV.
[486]
So with that,
[486]
the Cobra actually has independent rear suspension,
[489]
larger brakes and seats that actually have bolstering
[491]
as opposed to the 1960s inspired seats
[494]
in your other base models.
[495]
But what makes this car a contender for appreciation?
[499]
Well, you get that super stout drive train
[501]
that's easy to make power,
[502]
but you also have a pop culture connection.
[506]
And that connection came straight from YouTube.
[508]
The cars themselves are just a couple of years old
[510]
when YouTube started gaining a lot of popularity
[512]
and these cars quickly took over the street racing,
[514]
and automotive hooning,
[516]
subsection of YouTube Supercars terminated Corvettes,
[521]
terminated supras, terminated tires,
[524]
you guessed it terminated.
[526]
This goes on and on Terminator cobras
[528]
are the definition of supercharger whine
[531]
and oh God that exhaust note give me that .
[535]
Its (bleep)terrifying and I need it now.
[538]
Now this is personally one of my dream cars
[541]
but that's not why this car made the list.
[543]
It made the list because the market for these cars,
[544]
is making some big movements as of late.
[547]
These cars in fair examples
[548]
barely depreciate enough to dip $20,000.
[551]
With your desirable colors not even going lower than 20,000.
[556]
These days we're seeing 50,000 mile examples
[558]
in the 27, $30,000 range and selling super fast
[562]
for fricking 2000 Mustang,that's crazy.
[565]
These cars are on their way up
[567]
and if you get one now you're surely set
[568]
to be able to drive one of these cars
[570]
for free and potentially even make a little cash
[573]
when it comes to selling it as well.
[574]
So if you've ever wanted to terminate a Cobra ,
[577]
now is the time to get one.
[578]
And those are my predictions of what cars are gonna be
[580]
on the up and up in value that are affordable right now.
