Florida Governor Signs $1 Billion Tax On EVERYONE - YouTube

[0]
in an effort to avoid raising taxes on
[2]
the rich and on corporations
[5]
florida's governor ron desantis has
[7]
passed a regressive
[8]
consumer tax when no one was looking
[11]
he did it close to midnight he did it
[14]
without offering any type of public
[16]
comment and this is intentionally done
[19]
to essentially allow businesses to skirt
[23]
refunding the state's already pretty
[25]
broken unemployment system
[27]
so desantis quietly signed into law late
[30]
monday a bill that will cost
[32]
florida consumers meaning everyone in
[34]
florida
[35]
uh who shop online an estimated one
[37]
billion dollars a year in sales taxes
[39]
with the money used to cut business
[42]
taxes so understand what he's doing
[44]
there
[45]
he is implementing a regressive tax
[48]
meaning that
[49]
it's a tax that everyone has to pay into
[51]
regardless of what their income is
[53]
which means that if you're poor it's
[55]
going to negatively impact you
[57]
and your ability to buy things you need
[58]
for yourself and your family
[60]
and he did that in order to prevent
[62]
businesses
[63]
from having to pay more in taxes he gave
[65]
businesses a tax cut while increasing
[67]
taxes on consumers in the state
[70]
the bill is estimated to tax consumers
[72]
one billion dollars a year
[73]
with the money first earmarked for the
[75]
unemployment trust fund which became
[77]
depleted because of massive job losses
[80]
during the covet 19 pandemic
[82]
businesses pay taxes that go into the
[85]
trust and without another source of
[87]
money
[88]
would have faced higher taxes to
[90]
replenish the fund
[91]
but they don't want to do that
[93]
businesses don't want to pay higher
[95]
taxes to replenish that fund
[97]
so of course that cost gets shifted over
[100]
to consumers after the fund is
[102]
replenished it's a double whammy i'm not
[104]
done yet
[105]
after the fund is replenished the
[106]
revenue will be used to make a major cut
[108]
in the
[109]
commercial rent tax long a target of
[112]
business lobbying groups
[114]
senate president wilton simpson and
[116]
house speaker chris
[117]
sprouls agreed to reduce the commercial
[119]
rent tax from 5.5 percent
[122]
to 2 percent so double whammy there
[126]
hurting the constituents of florida but
[128]
of course uh providing
[129]
more goodies to business owners in the
[132]
form of tax cuts
[133]
nando uh are you going to defend the
[135]
great state of florida
[136]
state that you're from yeah ron desantis
[140]
is my
[141]
my favorite governor um you know it's
[143]
just it's
[144]
it's it's very depressing because as you
[146]
said people in florida complain about
[148]
or wonder how people in california ever
[151]
pay taxes and
[152]
and the effect of florida's lack of
[155]
estate income
[156]
tax um is that it's become basically a
[159]
playground for international
[161]
oligarchs and rich people because the
[164]
state is so
[164]
friendly to them that they um that
[167]
they're able to
[169]
park their money in florida they pay
[170]
less taxes it's easy for them to
[172]
uh buy real estate and hide their
[175]
ill-gotten gains from around the world
[177]
in florida
[178]
um florida is also like one of the
[179]
states that has the biggest
[181]
lotteries for example in in america uh
[184]
which is essentially a tax on the poor
[185]
um i think something like if five
[188]
billion dollars a year
[189]
the state of florida raises through
[190]
through its lottery system um
[192]
so uh yeah it's uh it's a great state if
[196]
you
[196]
want to give rich people a pass
[200]
and put all the costs on to regular
[202]
people i mean miami where i'm from
[205]
is building tons and tons of buildings
[208]
all the time like you just see cranes
[209]
everywhere
[210]
yet miami is still somehow one of the
[213]
most
[213]
uh rent-burdened uh cities in america
[217]
meaning the cost of living versus the
[219]
the cost of wages
[220]
that's because all of those new
[222]
developments are for international rich
[224]
people not for the benefit of floridians
[226]
themselves
[227]
so no nando yeah ron desantis is just uh
[231]
you know keeping in with that tradition
[233]
a sunny place for shady people
[234]
you know i was told on social media that
[237]
um the solution
[238]
to all of those new developments uh
[241]
being built
[242]
for wealthy people in other countries
[246]
would be to just build more of those
[247]
buildings like we we just need to build
[249]
more of those buildings and then
[251]
everything will be okay
[252]
that's the answer that way that way like
[255]
uh you know
[256]
brazilian plantation owners and
[259]
uh saudi uh oil oligarchs
[264]
and russian mafia guys can go to live
[267]
you know they can they can get their
[269]
tables that live
[270]
and get their bottle girls and uh yeah
[273]
that's that's what that's what the
[275]
florida's tax system is designed for
[276]
so that live can be housed with
[280]
uh the world's most evil rich people
[282]
yeah and you know
[284]
when it comes to state taxes like
[286]
something that
[287]
i want people to understand is yes
[289]
california has
[292]
a very high state tax okay uh
[296]
and it is the thing that frustrates me
[297]
about california
[299]
isn't the way that it taxes people and
[301]
it's a progressive tax
[302]
meaning that you get taxed at your tax
[305]
bracket
[306]
depends on what your income is so if
[308]
you're not making much money
[309]
you're not going to pay what someone
[311]
bringing in six figures would pay
[313]
um as a percentage in their state income
[316]
tax
[317]
so i like that it's a progressive tax
[318]
the problem with california
[320]
is that we don't see the money working
[322]
for us right you
[324]
you vote in favor of hhh that was a
[327]
ballot initiative to literally increase
[329]
your taxes
[330]
in order to build housing to get
[333]
homeless people off the streets and that
[334]
hasn't happened it's been years and that
[336]
hasn't happened so
[337]
that's where my frustration lies with
[339]
with the state of california
[340]
but if you're in one of these other
[342]
states whether it be texas that also
[344]
doesn't have
[344]
a state income tax or florida doesn't
[346]
have a state income tax
[348]
they're going to get you because at the
[350]
end of the day you got to pay for things
[352]
and so the question is how are they
[355]
going to raise the revenue necessary to
[357]
make sure that things are operating and
[359]
functioning properly
[360]
so in california there are very few toll
[363]
roads in florida i feel like
[366]
it's almost impossible to get around
[368]
without running into a toll road
[370]
that's a regressive tax uh what ron
[372]
desantis is doing here
[374]
is clearly a regressive tax it's
[376]
essentially a sales tax
[377]
that impacts online shopping right and
[380]
and he's doing it
[381]
intentionally to prevent raising taxes
[383]
on the rich so
[384]
it doesn't ma in texas their property
[388]
taxes are actually much higher than they
[389]
are in california
[391]
so there is a like they'll find a way to
[394]
get that revenue make that money
[396]
and for all the idiots who are like oh
[398]
what california i'm gonna move to this
[399]
place because it's lower taxes
[401]
all right we'll see we'll see how you're
[403]
gonna feel once you
[404]
you know run into that revelation once
[406]
you realize that no actually they're
[408]
taxing me in other ways it's just that
[409]
it doesn't get publicized by
[411]
right-wingers who try to make it seem
[412]
like these right-wing states are
[414]
wonderful places to live
[416]
so it's it's crazy that we have the
[419]
federal system that we have is just so
[420]
unwieldy and stupid
[422]
and creates all kinds of havoc and and
[425]
bad incentives
[426]
um you know because states do have an
[428]
incentive to
[430]
to i like i understand that incentive to
[432]
cut taxes
[433]
because it's like they're complete it's
[434]
a race to the bottom you know like if
[437]
some state raises taxes and all their
[438]
businesses leave and
[440]
um and people get laid off well then
[442]
their voters will be like what the hell
[444]
man you know you
[445]
you you just destroyed my livelihood so
[447]
there is this perverse incentive to do a
[449]
race to the bottom because
[451]
we have no federal oversight over these
[453]
state budgets they just
[454]
they they they can do whatever they want
[456]
which which is in a sense
[458]
a free-for-all race to the bottom um so
[461]
we just gotta i don't know i mean the
[464]
system that we have is so
[466]
it's so stupid and people who praise
[467]
federalism as some sort of
[469]
principle in and of itself we just see
[471]
how many how many problems arise from
[473]
that when there's no big
[475]
federal government coordination you just
[476]
get competition within the states which
[478]
we would think
[480]
in theory would make everything better
[481]
but actually it makes everything worse
[482]
the competition makes everything
[484]
go down not up right yeah definitely i
[487]
mean
[487]
and you certainly see that when it comes
[489]
to uh tax rates
[491]
uh that vary from one country to the
[493]
next which is why the biden
[494]
administration is proposing a
[496]
global uh business tax essentially to uh
[500]
prevent
[501]
the the race to the bottom that we're
[502]
experiencing on a global level
[505]
