Hi there. Stan the annuity man. America's annuity agent. Undisputed. Number 1
[6]
independent agent in the country. I mean, actually the tallest one as well.
[10]
Standing in at six foot six. About 7'2 with the hair. And that's the reason
[14]
for the hat. Hey, glad you join me because you're
[17]
looking at MYGA rates like where to find the best MYGA rates out there.
[20]
MYGA meaning Multi-Year Guarantee Annuity. MYGA meaning fixed-rate annuity.
[25]
Well, short answer obviously is stantheannuityman.com or my other site MYGA
[31]
.direct. ".dot com", its ".direct". Not D-O-T. Like the period. ".direct". But i want
[38]
you to hang in there with me because i'm going to talk about MYGAs how to look for
[41]
them, how to shop for them. The good and the bad the limitations. They're
[44]
not all the same as you can may imagine. Annuity companies are like herding cats.
[49]
They kind of do their own thing. And also, at the end, i'm going to tell you how to
[53]
get the MYGA owner's manual which is great. And then me on the back, 40
[59]
pounds heavier with a double chin, with the annuity man steakhouse t-shirt.
[64]
There is no annuity man steakhouse, okay? My saying is "You own annuities for the
[69]
steak, not the sizzle." And the great part about it is I'm going to send the book and
[73]
this Willy Wonka package. So, hang in there with me. The best part of this
[77]
video other than me talking is the music intro that's getting ready to happen
[81]
right now.
[91]
Okay. So, how do you find the best rates for MYGAs? Multi-year guarantee
[96]
annuities. Now, you have to understand the kind of basics of multi-year guarantee
[100]
annuities. Let's go through them. They are the annuity industries version of a CD. A
[105]
certificate of deposit. So, for all of those haters out there that say, "I hate
[110]
all annuities", that means they hate all CDs as well. Because a MYGA is a CD. Now,
[116]
the difference is in a non-IRA account, the interest portion of a MYGA grows
[121]
tax-deferred. Whereas with a CD and a non IRA setting, you have to pay taxes on
[127]
that interest annually. That doesn't make MYGAs better than CDs. So, calm down
[132]
Sparky. What it does mean though is you can combine CDs and MYGAs for a very
[137]
nice fixed-rate ladder. Let me give you an example that had a
[140]
person call in the other day that like half a million dollars that one... And
[145]
you're probably saying, "Stan that's a lot of money." Of course, it's a lot of money. And
[148]
I'm not discounting that at all. But I'm giving you the story because it really
[150]
happened. Guy calls me, $500,000. He didn't want to put his money in the
[155]
market. They want to risk it all that stuff. And I said, "Okay." But he didn't want
[158]
to lock it in long-term which I don't think you should either.
[161]
So, I said, "Okay, let's look at both CDs and MGAs." Stan the annuity man... Stan the
[165]
annuity man. Stan the annuity man sells what? Annuities. I'm not Stan the CD
[170]
man. But I think CDs are great product. So, in combination with CDs and MYGAs,
[175]
we put together a ladder. Typically, you'll find that the CD rates are higher
[180]
than MYGA rates or more competitive like 3 years and in or 2 years and in.
[185]
The shorter durations. And then MYGAs typically... Not all the time. But typically,
[190]
beat CD rates 3 years in-out. So what we did was a 5-year ladder.
[194]
$100,000 in each segment of that ladder. So, you bought a one-year
[199]
CD, a two-year CD, a three-year MYGA, a 4-year MYGA and a 5-year MYGA. Why did
[204]
he do that? Number one, he didn't want to lock the money in long term. Number 2,
[207]
he wanted money coming do annually starting in year one in case rates
[211]
changed. And then he can roll it hopefully to a higher rate. Who knows in
[216]
this current environment at the time of this taping. So, that's a story about
[220]
trying to find rates. But the reality of if your duration
[224]
time period is like 1 to 2 years, then it's not going to be MYGAs. It's going to be
[228]
CDs. If it's a little bit further than that, up to the 5-year or
[232]
7-year time period is going to be MYGAs. But it's something we specifically
[237]
have to talk about. So, keep that in mind when you're looking at MYGA quote. I'm
[240]
going to grab my trusty pen. We're going to go to the whiteboard and I'm going to talk
[244]
to you about how to filter the MYGA quotes and find what you need. Okay. Got
[249]
the pen. We're going to the trusty whiteboard. So, we're going to walk slowly.
[252]
Here we go. There we are. MYGA, multi-year guarantee annuity. Also a
[260]
fixed-rate annuity. I want to put here it's like a CD. Annuity industry
[264]
version of a CD. Now, when you go to stantheannuityman.com or MYGA.direct
[270]
or annuities.direct, all of those I own. You're going to see the listing. When
[275]
you pull it up, you're going to be at a filter to a couple ways. Number 1,
[277]
MYGAs are regulate at the state level. So, specific
[282]
MYGAs are approved at your stay. So, you're going to see a drop-down. So,
[285]
choose your state of residence, right? And then the second thing is you're going to
[290]
see duration or years. So, that's really the 2 filters that you're going to
[297]
have when you're looking at the MYGA rates. Alright? Pick your state, pick your
[302]
duration. So, it'd be 3 years or four years or 5 years or whatever. And then
[306]
you're going to see a listing of all of the companies and their ratings. I think we
[310]
put A-M best ratings even though you can check on our site with the Comdex
[313]
rankings. All rating services, am best Moody's Stand Reports and Fitch from
[318]
acclaim's paying ability standpoint. You're going to see from top to bottom what those
[322]
rates are and we list them as compounding rates. The reason I say that
[328]
is not all MYGAs have compounding interest rates. Some have simple interest
[333]
rates. But we've what we've done, if we converted those to the compounding rate
[337]
on the right hand side that you'll see. Alright? Now, a couple things you need
[342]
to know. If you want to take interest out of a MYGA, not all my guys allow you to do
[347]
that. In other words, "Hey, Stan. I want to put money in. I don't want to touch the
[350]
principal. I just want to peel off the interest." Then you'll see and the feed
[355]
that it'll show, "Can you take interest out? Yes or no.
[358]
Can you take a percentage out every year penalty-free? Yes or No." So, not all of
[362]
them are the same. So, when we talk, when you go to stantheannuityman.com and
[366]
interact with us there and we have conversations, I'm going to say, "Hey,
[370]
do you want... Do you want interest or do you not care at all and
[373]
want the highest interest rate?" If you think logically about it, if a company is
[377]
not allowing you to take interest out of the policy during that duration, let's
[381]
just for example say 5 years, then they are going to offer the typically
[386]
the highest percentage annual yield as opposed to the companies that offer
[391]
liquidity of say, taking the interest out or 5 or 10 percent liquidity during
[396]
that time period. So, that's not always the case. But just logically, that's kind of
[400]
what happens. Remember, MYGAs have no annual fees and no moving parts. The
[404]
commission's are built in and paid out of the company's reserves to the agent
[408]
--ME. And you'll see 100% of your money go to work day one and no
[414]
annual fees. It's a very simplistic way to get annual yield. And in combination
[419]
with CDs, it could be a good fit for your fixed rate or fixed income type part of
[425]
your portfolio. Okay. So, A guy call me other day me said, "Hey, I want to buy
[428]
MYGA, want to buy 5-year MYGA, But at the end of the 5-year term, I'm
[431]
probably going to convert that into an immediate annuity type payment with that
[437]
MYGA company. I said, that's fine, okay? And in every single MYGA out
[441]
there can be converted. And what they call annuitized and that means creating
[446]
payments. All of them can do that. BUT. But, you don't have to stay with that MYGA
[452]
company that you originally owned. What we'll do at the end of the duration of
[456]
that time period --in this case the gentleman bought a 5-year MYGA.
[459]
What I told him at the end of that 5-year time period, we would run an
[463]
internal quote with that carrier that he has the MYGA with and to see what their
[468]
immediate annuity payout would be. And then we'll run a separate immediate
[472]
annuity payout quote to see what all of the other carriers have. And if the other
[476]
carriers, some other carry other than the MYGA carrier who's currently with has a
[480]
higher payout, then we'll do what's called a 1035 exchange. A non-taxable
[485]
then exchange into the highest contractual guarantees. So, long story
[489]
short and we'll just put it in the back your head: The Maya is a
[492]
CD-type product, is going to pay an interest rate for a specific period of time that
[495]
you choose. But at the end. you can convert it into an income annuity. But if
[501]
we're going to do that, we're going to shop all carriers because we'll do. You
[505]
own annuity what it will do not what it might do.
[509]
And we'll dues are contractual guarantees. So, I'm always going to shop for
[513]
the highest contractual guarantee for you. Okay. So, the question begs if I'm
[518]
doing all these videos. And of course, you subscribe to Stan the annuity man
[522]
YouTube channel. Underneath, that red button, you could hit that numerous times
[526]
just to make sure you're subscribed, right? That's good. Because I'm putting
[531]
these out all the time which leads to the question. I wanted to know about
[534]
quotes but hadn't you've done a video on like what is a multi-year guarantee
[538]
annuity? Like the basics? Like the down-and-dirty definition of it? Uh-huh.
[544]
Yeah, I've done that. I've covered that. And in combination with this video, if
[548]
