[19]
I have made a video on how to write a cheque previously
[22]
We have seen what things we should keep in mind when we write a cheque in that
[27]
Many subscribers requested me to make a video on
[30]
how to cancel a cheque and how to stop a cheque payment
[34]
We will merge both these topics in this video
[38]
See both are different things
[40]
Canceling a cheque is a different thing and stopping a cheque payment is a different thing
[44]
You cancel the cheque when you have to give account details to someone
[48]
You put the stop to the cheque payment
[51]
when you have already issued the cheque to someone
[54]
But it hasn't been cashed yet
[56]
And you don't want it to get cashed
[59]
due to some reasons
[60]
So in this video, first we will see in what situations do you have to cancel the cheque
[66]
What is the method of canceling a cheque?
[69]
So that you will be saved from a fraud
[71]
Because sometimes the canceled cheque is misused
[74]
Then we will see in what situations do you have to stop the cheque payment
[78]
And what are the methods of stopping cheque payments?
[80]
Keep watching the video from the start till the end
[83]
Let's start.
[85]
Firstly we will see why do we need a canceled cheque
[88]
In what situations do we need to give it to someone?
[90]
Like when you take a loan
[94]
Then sometimes you opt for Electronic Clearance System
[97]
Or you have to pay the EMI
[99]
Then the banks ask for your account details
[101]
Then you have to give your canceled cheque
[104]
Then if you take a mutual fund or insurance
[106]
Then they take a canceled cheque for their KYC compliances
[111]
If you open your Demat account
[113]
If you invest in shares
[115]
Then the stock brokerage website
[118]
whoever is opening your account
[119]
Or the bank takes a canceled cheque from you for your account details
[124]
If you withdraw your provident fund
[126]
Then also your company takes a canceled cheque for your account details
[131]
Wherever you want your money
[134]
If you purchase a consumer durable or purchase an electronic item
[137]
For example, TV or fridge and you bought it on the EMI
[141]
Then also the canceled cheque is taken for your account details.
[144]
The bank just wants to make sure that you have a genuine bank account
[149]
And you can pay your EMI from there.
[151]
Or if you want to give bank account details somewhere
[156]
Then also you can give a canceled cheque. Assume you are a landlord
[158]
And if you want to rent your house to someone, then also you can
[163]
give a canceled cheque so that the tenant will get the account details.
[166]
And he can transfer the money to your account.
[168]
So these are the reason why you issue a canceled cheque
[172]
So the question that arises here is how can we write a canceled cheque
[175]
So there is a very simple and easy way to write a canceled cheque
[178]
Draw two lines and write canceled in between
[184]
This is the right way to give a canceled cheque to someone
[187]
Along with this, I will give you two more tips
[190]
The first thing is that you shouldn't sign the canceled cheque
[194]
Never sign a canceled cheque. If you have signed in this way
[198]
Then you should cross it
[201]
Or it is best if you don't sign it
Because a canceled cheque can be misused.
[207]
Sometimes, some agent may come to you and give the pen to you
[211]
And says to give the canceled cheque
[214]
And sometimes the ink of the pen is erasable
[218]
They rub the canceled cheque afterward
[222]
And they can fill up anything in that and misuse it.
[225]
And you have already signed in this way
[228]
Then it can be misused for sure.
[231]
So what do you have to do?
[232]
As I have told you, you have to draw to two lines and write canceled in between
[237]
That's it. You don't have to do anything more than that
[240]
And second, use your pen
[243]
Use the pen that you have. Don't use anyone else's pen
[248]
Because a lot of frauds of this kind is seen nowadays
[251]
So this is a simple way of giving a canceled cheque to someone.
[254]
Now we will talk about stop cheque payment
[257]
When do you stop cheque payment?
[259]
As we talked about the canceled cheque, you haven't issued the cheque
[262]
And nobody's name has been written on it
[264]
And you have given the canceled cheque to give the account details to someone.
[268]
We put the stop cheque payment when you've already issued the cheque to someone
[272]
And you want to stop the cheque before the cheque gets cashed.
[277]
In what situations can you stop the cheque?
[280]
Like in the case where you had to get the goods and services
[284]
They are not delivered.
[285]
Then, in that case, you will have to stop cheque payment
[287]
Or if there is not enough balance in your bank
[290]
Maybe there isn't enough balance in your account on the day for which
[297]
your cheque is issued. It's better to stop the cheque payment than the cheque getting bounce
[301]
And inform the person to whom you have issued the cheque.
[305]
If the cheque gets bounced then it is a punishable offense
[309]
So it's better to stop the cheque.
[311]
And assume you have already made the payment in some other way
[315]
And maybe you have issued the cheque
[317]
Then in that case also, you may need to stop cheque payment
[320]
Maybe you have already made the payment through net banking
[323]
Credit card or cash. Then in that case also you can stop the cheque.
[326]
So what is the way of stopping the cheque?
[329]
So you can stop the cheque in two or three ways
[332]
First, you can do it through net banking
[335]
You can do it through mobile banking
[337]
You can call on the customer care number and select the IVR options.
[341]
And put the stop on the cheque payment.
[343]
You can also stop the cheque by going to the ATM
[346]
Or you can stop the cheque by going to any branch of the bank.
[350]
And a nominal fee of 50 to 100 Rs
[353]
is charged to you. Whatever the charges of
[354]
stopping the cheque payment are. You have to pay them.
[357]
The main thing you need to know about this is the cheque number.
[361]
You have to quote this 6 digit cheque number whether you do it
[365]
by net banking, mobile banking, or any other options.
[368]
You should know the cheque number and which cheque number you have to stop.
[374]
I will show you the demonstration quickly how can you stop the cheque
[379]
through mobile banking. Firstly, log in to your mobile banking
[384]
See I have the account in Axis bank so I have logged in on the mobile banking
[389]
Let's go to the main menu.
[391]
See you are getting services and support here. After clicking on that
[396]
We will get all the services and support
[399]
We will click on the services here. See we are getting all these options here.
[403]
We will click on the cheques here. See we are getting two options here
[407]
Request cheque book or cheque status/ stop cheque
[410]
We will click on the stop cheque
[412]
After that, you can select your account here.
[415]
And you will get the date range.
[417]
And you are guessing that you had issued the cheque between these dates
[422]
So you can select your date range.
[425]
And the important thing is you have to put your cheque number here.
[428]
So put your 6 digits cheque number here. For example 024563
[435]
I am taking a hypothetical number.
[437]
After entering your number you have to click on submit.
[440]
Your request will be sent and the bank will stop your cheque.
[445]
So this was the method to stop the cheque.
[447]
It is a very similar way you will get the same options in net banking too
[452]
And I have only shown you the Axis bank
[454]
There are similar options available in every bank.
[457]
You can find them very easily.
[458]
I think after watching this video, you understood that in what situations
[462]
do we have to cancel the cheque and how to do it ideally
[465]
And in which situations do you have to stop the cheque.
[469]
And how to do it.
