Why I REVERSE SHAMPOO and use SULFATES...on my natural hair - YouTube

Oh my god. Okay. Hello everybody! What's up? Welcome back to another episode of WillOnAWhim...is this frame right?

I feel like it's off a little bit. Let me fix it! "Did it capture? Why did it *mumbles*"

Okay. All right, there we go. YAY! Here we go. This is the video where I'm gonna be trying something that you all probably already

have tried or know about but you just don't know it by this name. It's called reverse shampooing! "Wat?"

But before I even talk about that, let's talk about the fact that I look...

CRAZY right now! I'm sweaty. I just got back from the gym...here's a clip.

Anyway I'm back no. I'm a little sweaty. It's a little gross, which means that my hair

is

Dirty! I've had this

wash and go in for as long as Vivica Fox has been playing

stern but loving characters on television. We gotta fix this situation before my scalp calls the police on me. I still feel like this ain't

right

Okay, let's move that up.

There we go. The way that we're gonna fix THE SITUATION on my scalp today is

through reverse shampooing. You all commonly refer to this as pre-pooing.

"Huh?" Pre pooing is the means to the how like...wait is that you say that?

*laughs* I don't know I was a science major in college. It's the vehicle for reverse shampooing

But reverse shampooing..I could say that a million time and it's like...

WHAT IS THAT? Reverse shampooing is the concept of conditioning your hair BEFORE you

shampoo your hair. So traditionally obviously you go ahead and you clean your hair and then you put the moisture back in "um....

"...Yeah" But this is a process where you actually moisturize your hair FIRST and then you shampoo it out, okay

that souds like a scam.

Like why are you coming up with all kinds of crazy products? A PRE-POO? Just to get my money! You want my coin! I really have

all of these products right here that are just

Pre Poos. I just put this on my head before I shampoo.

Why? "why?" So I did a little research and here's the tea okay? So when you are...

low porosity and you just got to *punch* that dirt...you know what I mean just *punch* that dirt?

Residue from your hair products gets stuck in your hair strands, sorry

I'm getting triggered from that one time I got stuck in an elevator but

When your ingredients get stuck in your hair strands they don't allow room for water.

Much like when you're stuck in an elevator there's no room for air! I think I gotta see a therapist for that. So build up

in your hair strands just means no moisture...you know what I mean...like no moisture no shea moisture no maui moisture like...

No kind of moisture. Because your hair strands are full of a whole bunch of dry residue...

Your products don't work anymore! Your products can't enter your hair strands and just make it all curly make it all

moisturized. You'll notice that your hair products actually stop

working! Like what? Oh my god like I paid for you you need to work! They don't have any room to do their job. So...

To avoid all of those issues what I do personally is use a sulfate shampoo and we all know in the curly hair community people

fall out, die when they hear the word Sulfate!

Sulfate is one of the top ways to clean your hair it's in

Dish detergent because it's so good at getting grease and grime away from other things it's definitely...

Harsh. So that brings us to reverse

shampooing. I never understood why people were doing Pre poos. I just did understand I was like WHY ARE YOU

DOING THAT. But I figured it out! I

figured it out! Thank you, google! So today I'm gonna demonstrate exactly what this do! Like what it do? "What I do?"

Today I'm gonna be using this hair mask from prose

Which actually you put on your hair before you shampoo

so it's a pre poo! It smell so good I swear to you guys it smells like a luxury cologne *sniffs* Calvin Klein *sniffs*

Givenchy, like...and it's really really creamy as you can see I've been using this joint up to the gods! So in order to understand

the idea behind pre pooing you have to understand what sulfates do sulfates go into your hair like soldiers and they grab any

sight of

grease, grime and dirt. They allow for you to just rinse that all away, but for some people with curly hair they don't like

the way that sulfates leave their hair feeling! Like it takes away every semblance of moisture.

So that's where the idea of reverse shampooing comes in. You put an excess oil in your hair before you use a sulfate shampoo

To trick the sulfate into binding on some of that extra oil

So that it's not completely stripping your hair. That way sulfates still do the job of cleaning your hair strands out as well as

Cleaning your scalp. While you're also protecting your scalp in your hair from excess sulfate treatment.

Also you can invest in different pre poo treatments that do different things for you so there's ones for dry hair, scalp relief,

extra moisture...all kinds of things so pre poos

do come in handy. So I'm just gonna finish putting this pre-poo into my hair, step into the shower, use my sulfate shampoo from Head

& Shoulders which I'm currently trying to phase out of my routine

Because it's not cruelty-free. But until I find a new sulfate shampoo this is the one that I'm using. Afterwards I'll come back

here to let you all know how my hair feels.

So I'm finished, I'm out of the shower. I put some products on my hair already

That will be in an upcoming video so I'm not gonna talk about it here...BUT

I do have to say that pre shampooing is

A go! If you are low porosity and you need to use something that's like a little bit more

powerful like these gentle cleansers sometimes just don't do it. what do they do?

Not it. So if you need to up the game in terms of your cleanser maybe you're using

a sulfate...definitely look out for a pre-poo! There's so many different kinds I have this oil one from Kadima

Organics. This is a good one. It has peppermint in it and it's organic so

love that! I'm going to be trying this one out from Pure Oils Silk Elements it has eucalyptus and it has like micro

exfoliating beads in it apparently. And of course the one that

I used today from prose, which was really really good! I absolutely do notice when I use a pre-poo versus

When I don't that there's a difference in the outcome of my washing goes or whatever style

usually my hair is just so much more moisturized...which is

logical. Versus when I don't, right after I wash my hair it's just like a little bit more dry. So with that being said that
