So You Want A Dodge Challenger - YouTube

- [Alex] Yee-haw brother!
[0]
If there aint a better time to day drink,
[2]
and question what day it is,
[3]
other than if the world can't
decide if its open or closed.
[7]
Like we're kinda open, but not really.
[9]
Unless you're allowed
to, or maybe you're not.
[11]
Well, the state is open,
but your county may not be.
[14]
Unless it is, we're not sure.
[16]
Here's a company document
that says "WHERE AS",
[18]
more times than a high
school girl says "like".
[20]
And in this time we've learned
things about ourselves,
[23]
and we've learned things about cars
[24]
that we never really knew before.
[26]
- Today I'm gonna show how to
[27]
correctly change your
oil, in a modern car.
[30]
- To be honest, it has us
feeling big brain mode,
[32]
and we thought we'd oblige
you with another car
[34]
that you may not thought you needed.
[37]
Until now.
[38]
I'm Alex, Alex.fi on Instagram, and today
[40]
we're gonna be talking
about a car that's had
[42]
an on and off relationship
with staying in production.
[45]
A car that's caused all other
cars to have a weight complex,
[48]
and has littered Facebook
forums with reused jokes
[50]
you'd find carved into a bathroom wall.
[52]
A car that could, and
should be rightfully feared
[55]
when it comes to burnouts per smile.
[57]
Today, ladies and gentlemen,
we're gonna be talking about
[59]
the one, the only, we're gonna talk about
[61]
you wanting to own a Dodge Challenger.
[64]
(car tires screeching loudly)
[65]
(car engine revving)
[69]
(high intensity techno music)
[73]
(tires screeching)
[77]
And if this is you're
first time watching a
[79]
Fitment Industries video,
[83]
Hola.
[84]
That's hello in Spanish.
[85]
Please don't forget to
subscribe so we can keep making
[87]
banging videos like this, I
promise we're a low commitment
[91]
channel, and our videos are
all about cars and stuff.
[95]
If you're looking for
after market wheels, tires,
[97]
or suspension for your newly
acquired Dodge Challenger,
[99]
or otherwise, be sure to hit us up at
[101]
fitmentindustries.com where
we have just about everything
[104]
you're little tiny heart
could possibly imagine.
[107]
The good old Dodge
Challenger hit production
[108]
way back in 1969, as its own car,
[111]
but was previously used
actually as like a value version
[115]
of a full sized clarinet.
[117]
Coronet silver Challenger.
[119]
Which, is a badass Bat-mobile that has a
[121]
stronger chin line than George Clooney.
[122]
If you've seen it, you know
it, it's an awesome car.
[124]
But the Dodge Challenger
initially came to the game
[126]
a few years later in regards
to the pony car race,
[129]
but since it still had
the Charger at the time
[131]
Dodge really didn't think it
needed this car right away.
[134]
But then, they realized
there was money to be made
[136]
in a higher end pony car
version, and the car was born.
[139]
It carried plenty of
similarities to compete with the
[141]
Mercury Cougar at the time.
[143]
Which again, was a fancy muscle car
[145]
for the wealthier market.
[146]
Designed by the same
man who did the exterior
[148]
design of the 66' Dodge Charger,
[150]
the Challenger was an
incredibly good looking car
[153]
that people wanted did love.
[154]
I mean, if you could afford
it, it was a good looking car.
[157]
It came in a million trims,
but because the pony car
[159]
segment was already
declining of the early 70's,
[162]
and late 60's because of the EPA,
[164]
it didn't really last that long.
[166]
It was about five years
of fun before Dodge
[168]
stopped production and the Challenger
[169]
took it's first "it's
not you, its me" moment.
[172]
The craziest thing with Dodge though,
[173]
and why middle aged men
at Burger King car shows
[176]
can talk your ear off about
them, is because of how many
[178]
trims and styles, and
designs, and special editions,
[180]
and race versions, and just
quirky things this car had.
[183]
Japanese over trimming had
nothing to compete with,
[187]
when you look at first gen Challengers.
[188]
The second generation returned in 1978,
[190]
was a rebadged variant of
the Mitsubishi Galant Coupe.
[193]
(sniffs)
[194]
(huffs)
[195]
It had a 1.6 liter inline-four
and a 2.6 liter inline-four.
[199]
We're not gonna talk about
that one too much, okay?
[202]
But then, the Dodge
Challenger went on another
[204]
social media break for a few decades,
[206]
because thank God it did,
the second generation
[208]
is not much of what we
really want to chat about.
[212]
The one that we remember,
and the one that we love,
[214]
the Challenger came back
in a way that most people,
[216]
of like today, now know it as.
[218]
In 2007, the good old Challenger,
birth of the Shania Twain
[222]
the big wide thick girl
came back to the scene.
[224]
And the Challenger came
back strutting stuff
[226]
in the mid 2000's and hasn't left yet.
[228]
It came in a 3.5 liter, 3.6 liter,
[230]
5.7 liter, 6.1 liter, 6.4 liter,
[233]
came in 8 speeds, 6 speeds,
maybe even a 5 speed in there.
[236]
They have black stripes, blue stripes,
[237]
big noses, small noses,
wide flares, narrow flares,
[239]
heated seats, and dash things.
[241]
I mean, you could literally
make a Dr. Seuss book
[243]
out of how many things this car had.
[244]
This thing had more Mercedes
parts than Mercedes.
[247]
Not really, but kind of.
[248]
It had w220 control arms, it
had w211 suspension rears,
[252]
it had an 8 inch screen
that feels like a first gen
[253]
touch screen phone that
you had in middle school.
[255]
But, it came back at the perfect time
[258]
and either way this car was a big deal.
[260]
It was big because it carried design cues
[262]
of the first generation.
[263]
It was big, it was bulky, it was wide
[265]
and it was quick as (bleep)
for what it offered.
[268]
And while the Challenger
came in nine million trims,
[270]
the one that really stuck
out in the beginning days
[272]
was the SRT8 for the sake
that it had a 6.1 liter
[276]
in the beginning, and then optionally,
[277]
went up to a 6.4 liter.
[279]
V8, with it's face lift in 2011.
[282]
The car now has become
a bargain find for those
[284]
wanting a big old Mopar or no car, baby.
[287]
I don't know if people still say that.
[289]
And since it was doing well
with town and countries,
[290]
Dodge kept double downing
with the Challenger
[293]
and pretty much everything
else in its lineup.
[294]
The thing had more trims
than jokes on the internet,
[296]
and it didn't matter.
[298]
You could get these cars
and it could be either
[299]
an 18 year old, that got their first car
[301]
with a base model
interior, or a 45 year old
[303]
that was able to get their
first mid-life crisis buy.
[306]
Because of the collaboration with Mercedes
[308]
through Daimler, the sharing
of resources allowed the car
[310]
to be built without too much overhead,
[312]
which kept costs down.
[314]
Lower costs, plus more trims
because of shared parts
[316]
equals more volume, which
makes a happy Dodge.
[319]
Now, in 2015, Dodge would
relieve the SRT8 and
[322]
introduce the good ol' Hellcat.
[324]
The car that probably most
people know, the Challenger and
[327]
the Charger, and all that
sort of stuff around now.
[330]
Now, I'm not sure if you've ever actually
[332]
driven one of these car before,
[334]
but let me tell ya
[336]
(wincing)
[339]
they are fun as (bleep).
[341]
Okay?
[342]
There's 707 horsepower,
650 foot pounds of torque,
[344]
and I want to yell, I want to get like
[347]
that sort of excited, but
I won't yell about the fact
[350]
that they took a headlight
out, just to get more air
[352]
inside the engine, or the fact
that they had two key fobs.
[355]
Because why the hell not?
[355]
At 10 second quarter mile, and a front end
[357]
that looks like it would push
you over on the train tracks.
[360]
The car was, and is, not!
[362]
And by all intensive purposes,
[364]
it's a car that loves to make you smile.
[366]
This thing is insane.
[368]
Like, why?
[371]
And if that ain't enough,
they even made a Demon.
[373]
It's got whack fitment a little bit,
[374]
but its a goddam 840 horse,
770 foot pounds of torque,
[378]
came without a passenger
seat, you can buy (bleep)
[380]
for a buck and was Dodge's
pretty much way of saying
[383]
"(bleep) you, we do what we want to".
[384]
And had NT05R's, which
were barley road legal,
[387]
and made just about
every domestic owner cry
[390]
when Dodge introduced this thing.
[391]
And everybody found a
reason to not like it,
[393]
but it was fantastic.
[394]
And not many were made,
but hotdog was it gnarly.
[397]
The thing did wheelies, wheelies.
[401]
Stock wheelies.
[403]
Nowadays people are
seeing these Challengers
[404]
of all sizes and trims pop
up for a pretty good deal,
[407]
and has people wondering
and saying to themselves
[409]
"well, do you think people would care"?
[412]
But we're not here to talk
about the history of these cars,
[414]
we're here about talking
about you wanting to own
[416]
one of these high
horsepower, boot collective,
[419]
butt buckle pants wearing things.
[423]
I'm just so excited, I love this car.
[424]
So you want a Dodge Challenger,
well set down your Cheetos,
[427]
and grab your favorite scale
cause we're about to talk about
[429]
what this mega bud of a car
is actually like to own.
[432]
(tongue clicks)
[433]
The first, and second,
generation Dodge Challenger's
[434]
is pretty limited in terms of what people,
[436]
currently are doing.
[438]
And to be honest, not many people want
[440]
to talk about the second
gen at all because,
[442]
look at it.
[444]
Kinda like that, that really
awkward middle school phase.
[448]
Justin Bieber hair, we
were all there once.
[450]
The third generation is where
we're spending our time.
[453]
The third generation is
a fantastic car to snag,
[455]
if you want something that's big, wide,
[457]
and can do some gnarly burnouts.
[458]
And it isn't too bad on the pocketbook.
[460]
Its a domestic, which
means not many people
[463]
initially jumped into them,
but that's recently changed
[466]
from the automotive younger perspective.
[468]
The reason why it made
a fantastic cruising car
[470]
is because it's so comfortable.
[472]
Has tons of space, and since it's a hammy,
[475]
they sounds pretty dang
good with some work.
[477]
Most people opt for the
H&R lowering springs,
[479]
or airlift air suspension.
[481]
Since the car is big and
wide, they always look good
[483]
on the ground, but the lowering
springs is an extremely
[486]
affordable way to lower the
car without breaking the bank.
[489]
Staggered setups are a must on this car,
[491]
with most people running, at
the minimum, 20 inch wheels.
[494]
All the way up to 22's,
[495]
but I think that's a little excessive.
[496]
20 by 10, and 20 by 11 is pretty solid,
[498]
and meaty set ups are
a must, which usually
[500]
end up being Nitto tires.
[502]
Because they look like they would hack
[505]
into your Runescape account.
[506]
If you wanna own one of these car,
[507]
there's a few other
things to keep in mind.
[509]
Uno, its still a Dodge, and
shared as many humanly parts
[513]
as possible with other
manufactures so that they can
[515]
make the car more
affordable, AKA, cheaper.
[518]
And the car can feel a bit plastic.
[520]
The center entertainment can get dated
[522]
if you look close enough,
and if you actually look
[524]
at the interior, you'll start to see where
[525]
they cut corners to make
the car more affordable.
[527]
If you're okay with a
turn stock that feels like
[529]
it came out of a van, then that's fine.
[531]
But for some people, it isn't.
[533]
Most of the money here was
put into the motor Trans Am,
[536]
and just overall exterior styling.
[538]
Reliability is pretty decent, but not
[541]
terrible in anyway that would
probably make you get scared.
[543]
You're just gonna want
to always make sure that
[544]
the maintenance was done before you buy.
[546]
To us, the Dodge Challenger is a testament
[548]
to what the cars should stand for.
[551]
The rest of the world has
moved to alternate sources
[553]
of power, lightness, and technology,
[555]
to squeeze as much as they
can without getting ostracized
[558]
by someone that advocates
not cutting lawn, okay?
[561]
Dodge just doesn't do that with this car,
[563]
and they haven't since they
released the third generation.
[566]
It makes me so happy.
[567]
It doesn't claim to be
some sort of new gen thing,
[570]
it's just a big badass car.
[573]
The upper level trims feature
[574]
enough horsepower to make you smile.
[575]
And the 392 Scat Pack is good enough,
[578]
for most people to be happy.
[579]
The Hellcat is enough to make
any enthusiast smile and wave,
[582]
and pair it with some
Velgen or Rohana wheels,
[584]
lowering springs and some
Nitto tires, and you have
[586]
yourself a fun car
that'll never disappoint.
[589]
And, you'll be able to
cruise around in it.
[591]
Just know that you're never gonna get away
[592]
from the weight jokes, okay?
[593]
This thing is fat shamed more
than my middle school days.
[596]
It's just a car that doesn't
want to be anything else
[600]
besides itself, and you
have to respect that.
[603]
So what do you think of
the Dodge Challenger?
[604]
