[0]
hi everyone welcome to today's video so
[2]
on today's video i am going to do four
[4]
specific things first i will explain
[6]
what contrarian investing is
[9]
second i will speak about how using
[11]
contrarian investing principles i was
[13]
able to make a lot of returns this year
[15]
and i will share my top three profit
[17]
making assets
[19]
third i will share also share my three
[21]
most loss making assets for 2021 fourth
[24]
and finally we will discuss some of the
[26]
key points in case you don't like theory
[28]
and fundamental understanding please do
[31]
away with the first part just watch part
[32]
234 before i jump into the specifics of
[35]
the video very quick shout out to our
[37]
sponsors for today which is ditto it is
[39]
good to be contrarian when you are
[41]
making financial investments contrarian
[43]
means that if the world is going right
[44]
you are going left it is good to be
[46]
contrarian when making financial
[48]
investments it can lead to a lot of
[49]
results when it comes to health related
[51]
outcomes you should not be contrarian
[53]
you should not be taking risks with
[55]
certain things in life for example your
[56]
health insurance and term insurance so
[59]
check out ditto it's a wonderful company
[60]
you can go and speak with the
[61]
representatives for free absolutely free
[64]
you can schedule your phone calls with
[66]
insurance experts by checking the links
[68]
in the description box so do that speak
[70]
with experts for free and understand
[72]
whether you need insurance how much
[74]
cover to buy and other specifics around
[76]
it so let's get the video started and
[78]
first and foremost let me help you
[80]
understand the concept of contrarian
[82]
investing so in simple words contrarian
[84]
investing means that if everyone is
[86]
going right you are going left if
[88]
everyone is selling their stocks in the
[90]
market right now you are buying stocks
[92]
if everyone is selling individual stocks
[94]
like hdfc bank stocks you are going
[96]
bullish on those stocks you are going
[98]
and aggregating those stocks
[107]
this is madness why are you going
[108]
against the crowd what is the primary
[110]
benefit of it so let me help you
[112]
illustrate this point by giving you
[113]
relevant examples for example in 2020
[116]
when covet crisis hit there was panic
[119]
everyone was selling their stocks i was
[121]
buying it and a lot of investors who
[123]
have seen these type of crashes before
[124]
were also aggregating stocks so warren
[127]
buffett has given this philosophy that
[128]
when everyone is greedy you should be
[130]
fearful when everyone is fearful you
[132]
should be greedy so that in simple words
[134]
encapsulates the key message of
[136]
contrarian investing now let me show you
[139]
three specific examples so that this
[141]
point gets clarified
[142]
so let's first and foremost talk about
[144]
contrarian investors for example right
[146]
now i feel that kathy wood is a
[149]
contrarian investor
[150]
entire world is saying that you know
[152]
what we will have inflation that even i
[154]
am saying that we will have inflation
[156]
for a substantial period of time but
[157]
kathy would is of the viewpoint that we
[159]
will have deflation we will not have
[161]
inflation in the economy because the
[163]
productivity of things will improve as a
[165]
result inflation will come down and
[167]
therefore she is betting a lot on tech
[169]
related companies and productivity
[171]
improvement processes and systems so
[173]
that is a contrarian thought process of
[175]
an investor and kathy what type of
[177]
investors are contrarian investors
[179]
second key thing people tend to believe
[181]
from time to time on contrarian macros
[184]
so contrarian macro simply means for
[186]
example when everyone is fearful you are
[188]
being greedy when everyone is greedy you
[190]
are being fearful now how to identify if
[192]
people are being fearful or greedy now
[194]
of course you can read the news here is
[196]
a great market mode indicator you can go
[198]
and check it and you will always keep
[200]
seeing these needles right so if it is
[201]
on the extreme fear fear that is a time
[204]
for me to buy i end up following this
[206]
meter quite extensively and it has given
[208]
me great results from that perspective
[210]
now macros can also mean that you are
[212]
being bullish or bearish bullish means
[214]
that you are very positive about a
[216]
certain sector and bearish means that
[217]
you are not positive you feel that you
[219]
know what this sector is going to die so
[220]
from that perspective you can be
[222]
extremely contrarian right now i am very
[224]
contrarian on amc's right for example
[227]
everyone is saying that you know what
[229]
hdfc amc going down lot of competition
[232]
is coming in everyone is starting amc
[235]
businesses so amc businesses are going
[238]
to get killed no i do not believe in
[239]
that story i am being very very bullish
[242]
on the amc business i have aggregated a
[244]
ton of stocks on amc already now
[246]
similarly macros can also be thought
[248]
about from a country viewpoint for
[250]
example right now everyone is bullish on
[252]
the india story right now if you're a
[254]
contrarian investor maybe you are
[255]
bullish about some other economy not on
[257]
india so you might take contrarian
[259]
trades there now third way to understand
[261]
contrarian investing is looking at
[262]
contrary and trades so let me talk about
[265]
the example of jp power so when i made
[267]
the video everyone was after my life
[269]
that akshat you have recommended a penny
[270]
stock you have recommended a stock where
[272]
everyone is going to get bankrupt this
[275]
that so i was being a contrarian on this
[277]
particular trade now we are sitting on a
[279]
30 profit in just a matter of couple of
[281]
months now important point to note down
[283]
here in terms of contrarian investing is
[285]
that you don't need to be contrarian
[288]
here also here also here also right and
[290]
everything that you do need not be
[292]
contrarian there are certain contrarian
[294]
things that you could do for example you
[296]
can take contrarian macros contrarian
[298]
trades you can be in general a
[300]
contrarian investor now you would say
[302]
why are you like preaching so much about
[303]
contrarianism is there any specific
[305]
benefit if you can talk a little bit
[307]
about that so this is the final concept
[309]
that i will explain you so what is the
[311]
benefit in terms of contrarianism
[314]
the benefit is that you get to buy low
[318]
buy low and sell high right how does it
[321]
exactly play out a great example in 2021
[324]
december would be a couple of assets for
[326]
example bitcoin right bitcoin was
[329]
trading at 68 000 us dollars now it is
[333]
roughly at 50k us dollar so it has
[336]
dropped a lot everyone is being bearish
[338]
bearish means that they think that
[340]
bitcoin is going to go to dust it will
[341]
become zero right so everyone is being
[343]
bearish so if you take a contrarian view
[346]
on bitcoin the chances are that you will
[347]
get to buy it at 50k and then sell it
[350]
when everyone becomes bullish about it
[352]
right same goes for nft right if this is
[354]
a macro that you don't believe in go and
[357]
start yelling nft on a street and you
[359]
will start getting a lot of galia on it
[360]
right so bottom line is that people are
[362]
super super negative about nfts everyone
[364]
thinks that hey this is a ponzi scheme
[365]
this that again please not a buying
[367]
recommendation please do your own due
[369]
diligence but the point i'm trying to
[371]
make is that everyone is bearish bearish
[374]
on nfts if you become bullish on nfts
[377]
right now and if the nft market shines
[380]
then hey you know insane amount of
[382]
profits to be made so in simple words
[384]
the advantage of being a contrarian is
[386]
that you get to buy really really
[388]
inexpensive stuff and if you are correct
[390]
you are going to make insane profit on
[392]
those assets in simple words that is
[394]
what contrarian investing is so let me
[396]
show you three specific contrarian
[398]
traits that i took in 2021 and made
[401]
handsome profits on it i'm already
[402]
sitting on profits on some of these so
[404]
let me start with number three which is
[406]
oil india limited now you can see from
[408]
the screenshot so i made approximately
[410]
101 profit within a matter of few months
[413]
so i purchased these stocks towards the
[414]
end of 2020 and the reason was fairly
[417]
simple that you know entire world was
[418]
saying that you know what world is going
[420]
to go to dust entire supply shock has
[422]
happened entire demand shock has
[423]
happened nothing will move oil companies
[425]
will fall this that and psus you know
[427]
what they will never come back up again
[429]
forever they are gone no so i purchased
[431]
and i made handsome returns on it i
[433]
regret a little bit that i could not
[434]
invest a lot of money on it i just did
[437]
my first ranch after that it started
[438]
moving i spread out my bits across
[440]
different oil companies but i'm happy
[442]
that within a year i was able to make
[444]
more than 100 profit on this
[446]
this is my first contrarian trade second
[448]
is bitcoin i have made roughly 140 this
[451]
year now when you buy bitcoin on
[453]
different trading exchanges it is not
[454]
like zeruda you don't get a very clear
[456]
trade book so you can't monitor the
[457]
profit very clearly but by analyzing my
[460]
bank statements i can tell you very
[462]
generally that i made 140 percent for
[463]
this year bitcoins that i've purchased
[465]
how can you verify whether i'm telling
[467]
the truth or not go and watch my older
[469]
videos i have started talking about
[471]
cryptocurrencies right from march itself
[473]
and i've told very categorically how
[475]
much bitcoin ethereum i'm buying in what
[477]
allocation and i started showing live
[479]
investments also somewhere in june right
[481]
approximately here so bitcoin was
[483]
trading roughly 30k right right now it
[486]
has moved up to roughly 50k 50 000 us
[488]
dollars so there has been a massive up
[490]
run of bitcoin also despite it falling
[493]
from its peak of 68k on an average i
[496]
have made a lot of money because i have
[498]
invested more of my money here and
[499]
during this period in time right when
[502]
bitcoin was around like 23 24k also on
[505]
an average i checked my accounts my
[506]
profit on bitcoin this year has been
[508]
roughly 140 percent now how does
[510]
contrarianism comes into the play now
[512]
please again go back and watch some of
[514]
my videos and you will see akshaya
[515]
bitcoin dark currencies lord maldemored
[517]
uses it this that now you can gauge the
[520]
sentiments of people that they are very
[521]
very negative now people are waiting for
[523]
the government to bring up regulations
[526]
okay if government gives positive
[528]
regulation now do you think that we are
[530]
genius people and only we will make
[531]
profits no the moment there is positive
[533]
news about bitcoin it will run like
[535]
anything and we will not be able to make
[536]
transactions on our crypto platforms
[538]
right you will have a hard time buying
[540]
it once everything is positive about it
[542]
so i'm taking contrary positions it's
[544]
not as if that i've put in all my money
[546]
in bitcoin and you know cryptocurrency
[548]
is nothing like it i'm very well
[549]
diversified this is the same thought
[551]
process and rationale that i would ask
[552]
you to think about think about it this
[554]
way right for example if you put 100
[556]
rupees in bitcoin what is the maximum
[557]
that you will lose you will lose 100
[559]
rupees right if everything goes really
[562]
bad what is the maximum that you will
[564]
win on bitcoin it's almost infinite
[566]
right bitcoin can easily go to 10x right
[568]
so what is the risk reward equation here
[570]
the risk reward equation according to me
[571]
is still very favorable so i'm still
[573]
investing in bitcoin from that
[575]
particular perspective people assume
[576]
that it's a volatile currency this
[578]
happened that happened okay despite like
[580]
a major fall we are still sitting on a
[582]
40 profit here you can only win so big
[585]
if you are taking contrary positions if
[587]
you start buying bitcoin when all the
[589]
regulations are sorted out you're not
[590]
going to make a lot of money in it there
[592]
will already be exponential return that
[594]
will happen right so that is a simple
[596]
point again very quick disclaimer this
[598]
is not an investment advice please act
[600]
as per your understanding i'm just
[601]
sharing whatever i'm doing i am okay
[603]
investing 10 to 20 of my entire
[605]
portfolio in cryptos and i am designing
[607]
a portfolio accordingly i am not
[609]
comparing my bitcoin investment with hul
[611]
investment now my biggest success story
[613]
for this year has been my investment on
[615]
ethereum i have been super bullish on
[617]
ethereum i have said it multiple times
[619]
that majority of my crypto investment is
[621]
going to ethereum 60 of it and i have
[624]
been super bullish on ethereum for the
[625]
entire year and literally every single
[627]
week i have been buying some ethereum
[629]
how much total have i purchased i will
[631]
not disclose that because that is
[632]
besides their point again you can go and
[634]
check out my older videos i have said it
[636]
at least hundred times that i am buying
[637]
ethereum now what is the total gain that
[639]
i have made so i have approximately made
[641]
240 returns on my ethereum investments
[644]
this year because i purchased a lot of
[647]
ethereum during the january february
[648]
march phase except for this crash this
[650]
is where i purchased another bulk buy of
[652]
ethereum i have mostly done an sip based
[656]
investing in ethereum so this is my best
[658]
asset best asset where i am heavily
[660]
invested otherwise if i talk about small
[662]
small assets like mana token or xrp or
[665]
hex or bunch of coins and projects that
[667]
i have purchased in the ico they have
[669]
given me much higher returns in
[671]
percentage amount but my quantum of
[673]
investment is not that high so three
[674]
major assets all based on contrary and
[676]
buying when people were fearful i bought
[678]
it and i'm still buying these heavily
[680]
because i feel that this crash is good i
[682]
am doing it again not an investment
[684]
advice please do your own due diligence
[686]
now you might ask akshat should we also
[688]
enter into it should we not enter into
[690]
all these three assets that you have
[691]
purchased i have sold my oil india
[693]
limited position but i am still a big
[695]
investor in bitcoin ethereum both and i
[697]
will continue to purchase again not an
[698]
investment advice please do your due
[700]
diligence okay so now let's speak about
[702]
the contrarian plays that have not
[704]
worked in my favor so here first asset
[706]
that i will speak about is sale steel
[708]
authority of india limited here is my
[710]
portfolio on it i am at a 20 loss right
[712]
now on sale have i sold it the answer is
[715]
no now why did i buy it because again i
[717]
was trying to do a contrarian play i
[719]
genuinely felt and in fact i still feel
[722]
that steel sector is going to show an
[724]
uptrend why because the global supply
[726]
and demand is still coming back it's not
[728]
as if that we have maxed out demand and
[730]
supply game or mismatch that had
[732]
happened in the past and second key
[733]
point is that commodity cycles last
[736]
longer
[737]
gold is a bad commodity according to me
[738]
so i'm bearish about gold but i'm very
[740]
bullish on steel because steel will be
[742]
used for infrastructure development and
[744]
the only way productivity in the world
[746]
will improve if majority of our expenses
[749]
go to capital investment so capital
[751]
investments will require steel purchases
[753]
now in case this is complicated don't
[755]
worry about it all i'm trying to say in
[757]
simple words is that steel will go up
[759]
because the demand and supply will both
[761]
rise and demand will rise faster than
[763]
the supply because a lot of things need
[765]
to be built after this covet pandemic so
[767]
i am still holding it in fact i am going
[769]
to purchase more of it so second key
[771]
loss making asset this year has been
[773]
amara raja batteries i am bullish about
[775]
ev space now i have taken a pause on eb
[778]
space simply because of the fact that i
[779]
don't know in which direction
[781]
ev space is growing and how fast it is
[784]
growing it is growing i know that for
[786]
sure but right now i'm not able to
[787]
identify winners in this space i
[789]
purchased amra raja battery from that
[791]
perspective i don't have a huge stake in
[793]
amra raja battery because i always tend
[795]
to take little little positions first
[797]
and then upward or downward average it
[799]
so from that perspective i am bullish
[802]
about the entire ev space my stand is
[805]
still very clear am i buying more of
[807]
amra raja battery right now no am i
[809]
buying more of tata motors right now no
[811]
am i buying more of maruti right now no
[812]
why because i don't know if these will
[814]
be clear winners going forward so that
[816]
is a clarity that i am still trying to
[818]
figure out because even tesla has
[819]
undergone a lot of dramatic shifts over
[822]
the last few months which i felt was one
[824]
of the prominent leaders in the ev space
[827]
so this space is changing really really
[828]
fast so i need to track it i will
[830]
definitely take some positions in it but
[832]
i'll wait for the time being now my most
[834]
loss-making investment this year has
[836]
been ujj 1 small finance bank
[838]
unfortunately so i'm sitting on a loss
[840]
of roughly 42 you can see it from my
[842]
screen now am i worried about it no for
[845]
two reasons one i took a contrarian
[847]
investment viewpoint on it entire bank
[850]
sector has not come up therefore g1 has
[852]
also not come up it had internal issues
[854]
a couple of months back due to which the
[856]
stock price tanked unfortunately but
[858]
having said this i had already hedged my
[860]
position for example i have spoken about
[862]
and made several videos on ecuador small
[864]
finance bank so whatever small finance
[866]
investing i had to do i had done it
[868]
across both of these two banks i am at a
[870]
loss on ujjivan but i am at a massive
[872]
profit on equitas so that position still
[875]
makes me very much positive from that
[877]
perspective so from that position i am
[879]
still very much positive so what is the
[881]
key summary and what you can do for 2022
[884]
by understanding this journey of mine
[886]
first contrarian bets help that is what
[889]
i have realized so i will continue to
[890]
take more contrarian bets
[892]
number two you should be early in the
[894]
game this is what i'm trying to do i am
[896]
early in the nft game and i feel that it
[898]
will give me good returns from that
[900]
particular perspective again not an
[901]
investment advice please do your due
[903]
diligence only get into this space if
[905]
you believe in it please don't go by
[907]
what i'm doing right i believe that
[909]
something like nft web 3.0 the
[911]
businesses that i'm trying to develop
[912]
now or invest in now they are focused
[915]
towards web 3.0 because this is where i
[917]
feel the world is moving third and
[918]
finally again going back to one of the
[920]
biggest investors whom i learned a lot
[922]
of things from mr ray dalio he says that
[925]
diversification helps a lot he himself
[927]
stays diversified and i follow that
[929]
principle to the core i am always
[931]
diversified for example the loss making
[933]
positions that i have shown you they
[934]
were very little they were sensibly
[936]
taken would even small finance ecuador
[938]
small finance was a hedge against each
[940]
other luckily it worked out for me so i
[942]
did not end up making a lot of loss
[944]
there because i followed the principle
[945]
of diversification just because you have
[948]
learnt some new concept from me don't go
[950]
and sell your house and invest all that
[951]
money on that one single asset please
[953]
don't do that please stay diversified
[955]
that is the key agenda and key principle
[958]
so i hope you enjoyed the video let me
[959]
know what other videos you would want me
[961]
to make i'll be super happy to do it if
[962]
you need clarity on any asset any stock
[965]
comment below i will be happy to shoot
[966]
that video for you thank you so much and
[968]
i will see you the next time
[987]
you
