Disgruntled Taxpayer Launches Suicide Attack on IRS | Tales From the Bottle - YouTube

[3]
in 2010 a lone single engine plane
[5]
crashed into the echelon office complex
[7]
in
[8]
austin texas thoughts the crash may have
[10]
simply been an accident
[12]
gave way to fears that this was a
[14]
terrorist attack and there may
[16]
be more to follow however a lengthy note
[19]
left behind by the plane's pilot
[21]
revealed the true nature of the incident
[24]
it was no accident
[25]
and he had his reasons for the attack
[28]
andrew joseph stack iii or joe stack as
[31]
i'm going to call him
[32]
was born in 1956. growing up in
[35]
pennsylvania stack was orphaned at age
[38]
four that's a sad but promising start to
[40]
a protagonist's life
[42]
following movie logic the more traumatic
[43]
your childhood the greater your
[45]
potential
[46]
that means joe probably developed
[48]
superpowers in his teen years
[49]
and i'll probably never amount to
[51]
anything because my parents provided me
[53]
a stable childhood
[54]
stack studied engineering in college
[56]
before moving out to california to
[58]
pursue a career in software engineering
[61]
this began his illustrious relationship
[64]
with the tax
[64]
authorities a relationship that would
[67]
span decades
[68]
and see the closing down of two of stax
[70]
software companies fines that wiped out
[72]
his retirement savings on numerous
[74]
occasions
[75]
and eventually his death a relationship
[78]
the irs would probably call
[80]
a resounding success or business as
[83]
usual
[84]
in the early 80s stack was introduced to
[86]
a group of people who were studying tax
[88]
code
[88]
they were researching the special tax
[90]
exemptions that religious institutions
[93]
benefit from
[94]
you know the type that make it possible
[95]
for suspect preachers to set up what is
[98]
ostensibly a business free of tax
[100]
to become massively wealthy why do you
[102]
need a mansion to do god's bidding
[104]
anyways
[104]
hiring some of the best tax lawyers in
[106]
the business the group decided to make
[108]
use of these exemptions themselves
[110]
both to avoid tax and as an act of
[112]
protest an attempt to
[115]
force authorities to re-evaluate unfair
[117]
tax laws
[118]
they would be abusing the law in the
[120]
same way corrupt religious figures do
[122]
but making sure they followed all the
[124]
rules and made it all transparent
[126]
in accordance with this jostak began
[128]
claiming his home was a church
[130]
and as such he didn't have to pay taxes
[132]
on any business conducted from it
[134]
despite stack claiming they followed the
[137]
law and didn't do anything the big
[139]
money-making churches don't do
[140]
the irs was less than impressed when
[143]
they found out what was going on it cost
[145]
stack
[146]
forty thousand dollars i learned that
[149]
there are two interpretations for every
[151]
law
[152]
one for the very rich and one for the
[154]
rest of us
[156]
for the rest of the 80s stack worked as
[158]
a contract
[159]
software engineer then in 1986
[163]
a tax reform act was passed that made it
[166]
harder for software engineers to label
[168]
themselves
[169]
private contractors of course a private
[171]
contractor is taxed a little differently
[174]
than
[174]
an employee so this could really disrupt
[176]
your business if
[178]
all of a sudden your tax status had
[179]
changed stack
[181]
couldn't believe it it was almost as if
[183]
they wrote a law just to [聽__聽] with them
[185]
he spent thousands of dollars and months
[187]
of his time trying to raise awareness
[190]
and rally protest
[191]
against this law he spoke and wrote to
[193]
politicians and anyone who would listen
[196]
he attended meetings he organized
[198]
professional groups
[200]
keep in mind that all this time spent
[202]
campaigning was lost
[203]
income for his business but it was
[205]
always the time and money anyways
[207]
the law stuck after losing so much money
[210]
fighting the regulation and now
[212]
having that regulation impact his bottom
[214]
line
[215]
stack was once again in a precarious
[217]
financial position
[219]
he began working 100 hours a week
[222]
however
[222]
by the 1990s his business suffered under
[225]
economic depression
[227]
the dot-com crash and restrictions on
[229]
travel after 9 11
[231]
crippled his business as a contractor
[233]
stack had to regularly fly to meet with
[235]
customers and this was now very
[237]
expensive and impossible in some cases
[240]
with airport security on high
[242]
alert stack then watched the government
[244]
give billions of dollars in aid to
[246]
affected airlines
[248]
while he got nothing ironically the
[250]
government had basically
[251]
shut down an industry he depended on
[254]
which destroyed his business
[256]
and then used his tax dollars to fund
[258]
that same
[259]
industry after losing his business and
[261]
going through a divorce
[262]
stack decided to move to austin texas
[265]
coming from california
[267]
texas was surely a paradise for a man
[269]
struggling with tax
[271]
and a government right not exactly
[274]
stock found that the work for a software
[276]
engineer in texas was not quite as
[279]
plentiful or fruitful
[280]
as it was in california imagine that
[283]
stack toiled away for years
[285]
taking on work when he could find it to
[288]
survive he was forced to dip
[290]
into his savings after one particularly
[292]
bad year
[293]
stack failed to file a tax return why
[297]
because he didn't make a cent no income
[300]
he thought this spared him from filing a
[303]
tax return
[304]
but mercy is not a word in the
[306]
government's lexicon
[307]
unfortunately for stack by the time he
[309]
was notified the government wasn't happy
[311]
with him
[312]
it was too late to file a protest with
[314]
the court so he had to just sit and take
[316]
his ten thousand dollar fine
[318]
by the late 2000s stack had another
[321]
business
[322]
and another marriage he obviously didn't
[324]
learn his lesson the first time
[325]
after his troubles with taxes in the
[327]
past he decided to get an accountant to
[329]
handle his currently
[331]
undocumented income that way no more
[333]
mistakes would be made
[335]
and he could just get on with his life
[337]
unfortunately for joe
[338]
feels like i've said that more than a
[340]
few times now his accountant
[342]
neglected to report his wife's income
[345]
too
[345]
stack had no idea he was under reporting
[349]
income until the government's decided to
[351]
audit him
[353]
disaster by now jostak was completely
[356]
disillusioned with the government
[358]
he believed the freedom the united
[360]
states provided him was a blatant lie
[362]
and that he was nothing more than a
[364]
slave to the system which made him jump
[367]
through hoops just to protect his
[368]
hard-earned savings
[370]
and in the end they could just wipe it
[371]
all out if they felt like it anyway
[373]
throughout his life he was a
[375]
mild-mannered man he was a father
[377]
he was a hobbyist pilot he had a love of
[380]
music
[380]
and played bass in a band but now at 53
[384]
years of
[384]
age joe stack was at the end of his rope
[387]
his anger at his situation grew
[390]
increasingly frightening for his wife
[392]
who took her daughter to a hotel for
[394]
some space on the 17th of february 2010.
[398]
the very next day joe stack would act on
[401]
his frustrations
[402]
in an attempt to defy those who had
[404]
wronged him
[405]
oh yeah that's right you spent all this
[408]
time listening to me drawn on about
[409]
finances
[410]
you're ready to get to the action admit
[413]
it you didn't click on this video to
[414]
hear about taxes
[415]
in all honesty i didn't choose this
[417]
topic to talk about them either
[419]
take it away mr stack on the morning of
[422]
february 18
[423]
2010 joe stack posted a manifesto
[427]
suicide note to the internet in it he
[430]
details his lifetime struggle with the
[432]
irs
[433]
and his growing cynicism with the
[434]
american system
[436]
i would only hope that by striking a
[438]
nerve that stimulates the inevitable
[440]
double-standard
[441]
knee-jerk government reaction that
[443]
results in more
[444]
stupid draconian restrictions people
[447]
wake up
[448]
and begin to see the pompous political
[450]
thugs and their mindless minions for
[452]
what they are
[454]
sadly though i spent my entire life
[456]
trying to believe it wasn't so
[458]
but violence not only is the answer it
[461]
is
[461]
the only answer the cruel joke is that
[464]
the really big
[465]
chunks of [聽__聽] at the top have known
[467]
this all along and they have been
[469]
laughing at
[470]
and using this awareness against fools
[473]
like me
[473]
all along i saw it written once that the
[476]
definition of insanity is repeating the
[478]
same process
[479]
over and over and expecting the outcome
[482]
to suddenly be different
[484]
i am finally ready to stop this insanity
[487]
well mr big brother irs man
[490]
let's try something different take my
[493]
pound of flesh
[494]
and sleep well joe stack then set his
[498]
house on fire
[499]
and left for the airport where he rented
[502]
a hangar for his piper dakota aircraft
[505]
at 9 45 am he took off
[508]
his last words to the control tower were
[511]
thanks for your help
[512]
have a great day around 10 minutes later
[515]
the same aircraft
[516]
traveled at full speed into echelon 1 a
[519]
business complex which housed
[521]
irs offices
[526]
the craft exploded on impact causing
[529]
much damage to the building
[530]
and starting a fire joe stack was killed
[534]
on impact irs manager vernon hunter
[537]
was also killed 13 others were injured
[541]
too critically though they were able to
[543]
eventually resume
[544]
operations at echelon 1 between the loss
[547]
of documents and man hours of work
[549]
the attack cost the irs millions they
[552]
spent further millions on improving
[554]
security at their offices all across the
[556]
us
[557]
most of that just went into employing
[559]
more security guards though so
[561]
unless they came equipped with
[562]
anti-aircraft weaponry wouldn't do much
[564]
to stop
[565]
a similar attack this is the us we're
[568]
talking about though so you never know
[570]
in all the irs reportedly spent 38.6
[574]
million dollars so did anything change
[578]
no not that i'm aware of you know how
[581]
you sometimes hear people call a
[582]
regrettable expenditure a tax write-off
[585]
well this is basically the equivalent
[587]
thing for the tax man
[589]
business is good enough that they can
[590]
foot the bill for the occasional suicide
[593]
attack
[593]
as long as their business makes more
[595]
money than suicide attacks
[597]
they're doing all right joe stack was
[600]
well aware of this of course
[602]
in his manifesto he admits he knew
[604]
business would continue as usual after
[606]
his attack
[608]
he just hoped enough people would take
[610]
notice and maybe one day
[612]
there'd be too many people done with the
[614]
irs to ignore
[616]
maybe this video has elicited some
[619]
admiration from you
[620]
maybe even some inspiration but i would
[623]
advise you
[624]
not to [聽__聽] around with the irs or your
[626]
country's equivalent
[628]
because one thing is universally certain
[630]
the tax man
[631]
does not [聽__聽] around think back to any
[634]
of my previous videos where i mentioned
[635]
someone was having trouble with their
[637]
taxes
[638]
how did that end for almost every single
[641]
one of them
[642]
but hey if you want me to do a video on
[644]
your tragic demise
[645]
be my guest and if you want to hear a
[647]
similar tale of a man
[649]
taking all he could stands until he
[651]
couldn't stands no more
[652]
why not check out my video on the
[654]
killdozer where a man
[656]
made a tank out of a bulldozer and went
[658]
on a rampage
[660]
or my video on sean nelson who made a
[662]
tank out of a tank and went on a rampage
[665]
i even have another video of a pilot
[667]
flying a small aircraft into a building
[669]
over perceived wrongs
[671]
yeah i have so many videos now it's like
[673]
i have one for every occasion and if
[675]
you've already seen all of those videos
[677]
well firstly
[678]
thank you for the support and secondly
[681]
subscribe you miserable bastard
[692]
[Music]
[703]
