[0]
so if we look at this island here you
[2]
might say well that's a nice looking
[3]
island that has a nice beach would be a
[4]
nice place me to relax on but what if i
[6]
told you there was nobody there with you
[8]
and there was no food or water and
[10]
nobody was coming to help you it might
[12]
not be such a great place to be right
[15]
and that's what eyelid reversals are a
[16]
lot of times they're not a great place
[18]
to be
[19]
but they can be a very strong indicator
[21]
to show what's going to happen next so
[24]
they're something they're rare they
[26]
rarely occur but when they do they're
[28]
very very strong indicator and could
[30]
provide a great great opportunity so if
[32]
you see an island of reversal you really
[34]
want to pay attention to it and kind of
[36]
what they are is they're uh it's an
[38]
exhaustion gap you know where it's been
[41]
exhausted as we learned about and it's
[42]
going to have this gap followed
[44]
immediately by a breakaway gap in the
[46]
opposite direction the next day so what
[49]
you're finding is that whichever way
[50]
it's going that breakaway gap the next
[52]
day that you're finding a last trader
[54]
kind of finds they're on an island you
[56]
know by themselves and they have to
[58]
start adjusting their price either up or
[59]
down to kind of get back in within step
[62]
with people who are willing to buy or
[63]
trade or buy and sell or trade with them
[66]
and are you know basically looking at
[68]
you know maybe a
[69]
different way the trend is going to go
[71]
so let's take a look at these island
[72]
reversals and how to recognize them you
[75]
know in a more understandable graphic
[77]
manner
[78]
so to identify these island reversals
[80]
you're going to need an exhaustion gap
[82]
right and so we know from day 14 to day
[85]
15 uh that we were looking at possibly
[87]
or looking at an exhaustion gap we saw
[89]
that our volume was you know not
[91]
going up like should have had a real
[93]
spike in volume there it actually went
[95]
down in terms of our volume between day
[97]
14 and 15 and so we know we're running
[99]
out of steam and that is our exhaustion
[101]
gap and then what typically will happen
[103]
is you'll you'll now start seeing you
[105]
know overlapping bars and it might start
[106]
going sideways might even start going
[108]
down or you know basically the trend has
[110]
been you know basically broken at this
[112]
point and it's not trending upward
[113]
anymore as in this example but sometimes
[116]
what happens is the island reversal as
[118]
we mentioned you have an exhaustion gap
[120]
that is immediately followed it's
[121]
immediately followed by a big jump up in
[124]
price you know that looks like it's
[126]
another runaway gap the classical way to
[129]
find that it would be the next day
[131]
as far as their being a true island
[132]
reversal sometimes folks will say oh it
[134]
might be you might have one or two
[136]
trading periods in between but really
[137]
the classic way to look at is between
[139]
like in this example 15 and 16 you're
[141]
going to have these two kind of back to
[143]
back gaps so you have your exhaustion
[145]
gap low volume
[147]
and then the ocean that just keeps going
[149]
up higher there's a whole another big
[151]
gap whole another big let's try to push
[153]
this even higher and that's where you
[155]
might see uh you know even lower volume
[157]
let's see coming on uh you know that bar
[159]
in between those volume bars uh where
[161]
you could see even lower volume because
[163]
it's really is truly exhausted that
[164]
you're really on an island you're the
[166]
last person out there trying trying to
[168]
buy and you might have a couple sellers
[170]
out there but it's really already post
[172]
the exhaustion phase and the really
[174]
where you can tell
[176]
is uh you can start looking for that low
[178]
volume on that exhaustion gap right so
[180]
there's low volume and that tells you
[182]
time to sell there's high volume on a
[183]
runaway gap that tells you to buy right
[185]
we saw a previously on day 12 that
[188]
runaway gap where it's time to buy
[190]
but a low volume island reversal is
[193]
gonna have you're gonna have that low
[194]
volume on the day 16 in this example and
[198]
then the time to sell or buy depends on
[200]
the island right you're waiting for the
[201]
island to form so we don't really truly
[203]
know it in the a16 we need a day 17 uh
[207]
to to show what's going to happen and
[209]
then what will happen is then on day 17
[211]
you know there's going to be some high
[213]
volume there's one way you can see here
[214]
you've got your island in reverse so
[216]
you've got these low volume days of
[218]
of exhaustion gaps the island forming
[220]
and then the reversal going the opposite
[222]
way is happening where there's a lot of
[223]
volume and it's going to
[225]
go the other way so the time to sell or
[227]
buy depends on the island as i mentioned
[229]
so if we look on the left here you can
[231]
see that this was an upward trend that
[234]
was exhausted
[235]
then jumped up from day 15 to 16 to an
[237]
island and then we're waiting to see
[239]
what happens on day 17 and that's really
[241]
what's going to confirm that we're on an
[243]
island that it didn't continue going up
[245]
or something like that where it might
[246]
have actually been more of a runaway uh
[248]
gap it was actually a true um island you
[252]
know after an exhaustion and
[254]
you can see how now prices have come
[256]
down and there's another gap in between
[258]
but a lot of volume now people are
[260]
really selling and they're trying to get
[261]
out of it that's the example of left
[262]
side so that's now created a new
[264]
downward trend on an island reversal so
[266]
it's time to sell get out book the
[268]
profits that we've made from day you
[270]
know one through 16 you know you know if
[272]
we're staying the whole time or or 14 or
[275]
however we stayed along but if we're in
[277]
this
[278]
security right now we'd want to get out
[280]
right by the same token if you look on
[282]
the other side
[284]
where uh if you look at day 13 14 15 you
[287]
know things have been down trending
[289]
right we haven't bought yet because it's
[290]
in a downtrend there's a there's an
[292]
exhaustion gap from a previous you know
[294]
runaway gaps and breakaway gaps that
[296]
have led to a strong trend going
[298]
downward prices are going down we see
[301]
the exhaustion gap between day 14 and
[302]
15. we see day 16 following that
[305]
exhaustion gap going out by itself on an
[308]
island
[309]
we're going to watch to see what happens
[311]
on day 17. what happens at day 17 the
[313]
price goes back up significantly we see
[316]
that high volume we see that we have an
[318]
island reversal but actually it's going
[320]
in the other direction and we want to
[322]
buy on that now we're seeing a new
[323]
upward trend that is forming and so this
[325]
would be a great buy signal you know
[327]
kind of confirming with that volume that
[329]
we have an island reversal going in the
[331]
other direction so the key points is you
[334]
don't know if it's an island until the
[336]
second gap occurs it's day 17 in this
[339]
example you might see it jump out way
[342]
ahead after an exhaustion gap and kind
[344]
of guess like oh is that a reversal and
[346]
it could be but you really
[348]
need to you know look at that volume and
[350]
you really need to confirm with that the
[352]
following day others will guess based on
[354]
the volume like if it's a low volume
[356]
they might say oh on day 16 our our
[359]
volume was low uh and then then we're
[362]
going to guess and say that's an island
[363]
reversal and that's not a bad guess
[365]
actually but to be a true island
[367]
reversal you're going to need that day
[368]
17 in this example see there's high
[371]
volume there that really established
[373]
that yes things have changed there's a
[375]
definite change and now a new trend is
[377]
forming so to really look at a classic
[380]
completed island you'll have to have an
[382]
exhaustion gap with low volume followed
[385]
by an island gap with low volume and in
[388]
a sense a breakaway gap high volume
[391]
going in the opposite direction forming
[393]
that island and you don't want to be on
[395]
the island you want to get either off
[398]
the island or or get on the new trend
[400]
depending which way it's headed so those
[402]
are island reversals they're actually
[404]
very rare occurrences but when you if
[406]
you see it and kind of recognize it in a
[408]
chart pattern really watch that closely
[410]
because they're very very strong
[412]
indicators uh probably because they're
[414]
so rare and there's so many requirements
[416]
behind it right with the exhaustion gap
[418]
you know all that coming in the strong
[420]
trends coming beforehand either up or
[422]
down so watch for island reversals and
[424]
be ready to strike nothing's perfect of
[426]
course but this is a good good strong
[429]
indicator and do check those volume
[431]
levels to kind of confirm what you're
[433]
what you're seeing is what's truly
[434]
happening
