I Just Found the Best Car Ever Made (You Can Buy It for $1,000) - YouTube

[0]
rev up your engines today I'm going to talk about the perfect beater work car
[9]
in this case it's a 2004 Toyota Corolla and the customer just bought for that
[15]
very purpose for $1,500 as you can see the hubcaps are gone we go inside the
[21]
cover for the locks is gone it still works the cover is gone and we get inside not
[26]
all that worse for wear the armrest these are all torn up there's only dented a
[30]
little the back seats aren't in that bad shape really so as you can see yeah the
[34]
weather stripping is ripped and these are all messed up people obviously have been
[39]
breaking into the car using those jimmies to open it up some to either
[43]
lock themselves in or tried stealing the car but what makes it the perfect beater
[47]
work car is under the hood and yes the prop that holds the hood open is gone so
[52]
we use this piece of plastic tubing here nice and strong at each four-cylinder
[57]
Toyota engines can last forever yes can the automatic transmission in
[63]
this 2004 it's really not all that different from the transmission and my
[67]
old celica it's got two hundred and thirty some odd thousand miles on it
[70]
they're very dependable vehicles I'm sure the emblem is all worn out
[73]
but hey this thing's only got one hundred and twenty two thousand six
[77]
hundred ninety miles that's not much for Corolla now there's no saying how many
[82]
owners a 16 year old Corolla has since they're so reliable you don't have to
[87]
worry all buying just a one owner one like with some other cars these things
[91]
can just go and go now in the case of this Corolla customers just bought he
[95]
wants me to tune it up and give it an overall check off so the first thing
[98]
we're gonna do is pop out the spark plug that will give us a this really good idea what kind
[102]
of shape the engine is in the stupid beauty Cover doesn't serve any real
[106]
purpose then it'll pop out the spark plugs loosen all the nuts to hold the
[110]
coil on plugs in take them out one at a time yeah well take out the spark
[114]
plugs no one knows what kind of shape this thing is going to be in until we take it apart and out
[120]
it comes they analyze it we can see their tan-colored which is what you want
[123]
it's a little bit of oil burning residue which is typically worn
[127]
we're gonna change him up but they're the right color the engines firing good
[131]
it just burns a little oil what you can expect on an older engine of course
[134]
you're gonna check the air filter pop it out it's really dirty
[140]
as you can see needs an air filter do so the first thing to do is get a new spark
[144]
plugs in an air filter now when I scan it with a computer and it got a code for small
[147]
evap leak so I'm gonna change the gas cap to it could easily have a leaking
[152]
gas case so we'll pop a gas cap open up take off the old one and put the new one
[159]
out that's a nice click I know one's got a torn gasket so that makes sense my
[164]
normally put spark plugs in dry but I'm using some of this all-in-one oil and
[168]
I'm going to lubricate the threads a little bit here because if you remember
[172]
when we tried to get it out you could hear it was really tight this one we
[175]
want a little Lube because we don't want to ruin the aluminum heads if they're a
[178]
little bit corroded and you put them in you can have problems so in this case we
[182]
don't normally do it but on this I'm putting a little oil on the threads so
[185]
then when we put them in our magnetic socket that holds it in when it goes in
[190]
it's gonna go in smoothly you can see I can even do it by hand most of the way
[194]
then we'll get it snug with a ratchet and if you do the other three we're
[198]
gonna inspect those plugs too and here's number two it looks the same as number
[202]
one just the right collar got a little bit of oil burning on it but like I say
[206]
that's normal for an engine like this but this kind of mileage this one's
[212]
gonna require a little prying so I get up giant screwdriver oh wow that one's
[218]
really stuck there we go finally it came off let's hope it doesn't have any
[223]
problems inside out it comes looks the same as the other ones but you can see the
[227]
top the rubber kind of melted on goo from the years these plugs were in there
[231]
sometimes they'll stick like that just keep wiggling and prying you'll get them
[234]
off now we put this one back in with a new plug the last one number four and
[241]
it's also the same it's the right color it's got a little bit of oil burning
[245]
nothing outrageous they've been in there a long time so we'll put the last plug
[249]
in the coil assembly back don't forget the hold on bolts for each
[254]
one and you'll put the stupid beauty cover back on
[257]
not that it does anything and of course pop the air filter back in, got to wiggle it
[262]
a bit then it snaps on now due to age and
[264]
probably lack of proper maintenance the oil seals on the front of the engine are
[269]
leaking a little bit of oil rather than tear low allows you to part on this
[272]
beater car I'm gonna stick some of this at205 reseal it can rejuvenate rubber
[277]
seals you just pour it in the engine oil back off pour the whole bottle and then
[282]
it goes there we start her up warming up
[290]
you some of this pink Toyota coolant because you realize when you buy a
[294]
beater car at the type of car you check the oil every so often the coolant you
[299]
just make check of stuff cuz it's gonna leak a little oil it's obviously
[304]
using a little bit of cool you just keep popping that stuff up being a Corolla
[308]
let's go last for years and years if you keep up with the fluid now well take it
[313]
for a spin and accelerates pretty good for one of these now you notice the
[318]
airbag light is on heck the airbags on these things who knows how many times
[322]
this thing's been wrecked and you have the rides a little bouncy when you hit
[326]
bumps cuz the struts are worn but hey get you down the road it's a good work
[330]
car for 1,500 bucks could last for years and yeah if you hit the brakes hard at
[335]
higher speeds the sturdy wall shakes a little cuz the rotors just somewhat
[339]
warped but what the heck it still stops the car you can put new rotors and pads
[343]
on if you want but I don't think this guys is going to even care because he's going
[347]
to college now and he got himself a good college
[351]
beater car and look the power door locks still work so if you're looking for a
[357]
good beater work or college car something like this 04 corolla could be just the ticket
[362]
for you and here's some bonus questions and answers well hyundai is making
[369]
solar power somewhat real now now a lot of people always figured hey sunshine
[375]
you got electric car when I put solar panels on it and get power from the Sun
[379]
previously people have done so but it was such a small hot actual power that
[384]
they got that it was kind of a joke but hyundai is
[387]
gonna be offering solar charging on their new Sonata and they claim that if
[392]
you live in sunny areas that it will generate enough power to go 800 miles
[398]
extra in a year now if you think about it that's you know less than three miles
[404]
per day so we're not talking about masam but you get a free 800 miles driving
[410]
I'm sure it's kind of a you know sales gimmick you think I can't quite imagine
[413]
that the money it costs to buy the car built it that way the price of it'll be
[418]
so much higher with that stuff I bet you'll never recoup the extra money you
[422]
paid for the panels and all the technology and you're only getting 800
[426]
miles a year max and if you use electrical power generation for cars I
[432]
know with the Tesla's to go 800 miles it's not costing you all that much money
[438]
sometimes to go 800 miles you're talking about less than thirty forty dollars
[443]
where does a lot electricity if that's the case and you're paying a ton more
[448]
for this solar paneled car to get extra eight hundred miles a year it's really
[454]
not worth of money that you're spending either but hey who knows maybe the
[457]
technology eventually go that you get eight thousand miles a year extra
[461]
driving capability an electric car but as it stands now the new sonata that
[465]
they're coming out with says that the solar panels if you live in a sunny area
[468]
will give you 800 free miles of driving per year well the Germans are at it with
[473]
their march towards technology they seem to be nuts about that stuff they are now
[477]
creating smart visors Bosh's virtual visor electronics for a visor instead of
[484]
an actual physical visor that you move back and forth it's a transparent LCD
[488]
visor and what it does is it tense the areas that need to be by having a camera
[494]
that's facing your face analyzing what's happening on your head and then the
[497]
transparent LCD starts to put like sunglasses in the parts that's blocking
[502]
your eye if the Sun is coming in too deeply this is still a few years from
[508]
being sold in fabric to the public but they're trying it out Bosch is a pretty
[512]
big company so putting this kind of money and odds are somebody like mercedes
[517]
is gonna end up having a virtual visor on it but here's where sometimes
[522]
maybe technology goes a little bit too far these sunglasses yeah mine's wearing
[526]
them so it doesn't mean anything to me and if you have a physical visor that
[530]
you can flip back and forth and block the bad part of the Sun it's a pretty
[533]
simple trustworthy bulletproof system for blocking the Sun
[540]
you got a man you got some LCD screen of things gonna break or it's gonna block
[544]
at the wrong time but hey that's the Germans for you they always take
[547]
technology as far as you possibly can then a little bit further, try step says
[552]
Scotty got a 2014 4runner starting to make noise on a driver side door and
[556]
windshield how can I find out what it is all right
[559]
of course you open the door and look for the windows stripping and a lot of times
[563]
that rubber stripping is cracked or ripped or sometimes they pop out of the
[565]
holes you want to check that now you do have to pinpoint where the noise is
[569]
coming from which can often be a stinker but here's a really good way get your
[572]
cell phone start recording go all around when the noise gets the loudest just by
[577]
using that then you can play it back because generally when do they make
[581]
noise when you go in at higher speeds when you go to outer space you gotta pay
[585]
attention to what you try but use your phone to record the noise and then you
[588]
can go back and analyze it from my experience for those things look closely
[592]
at the weatherstripping to see if it's come off or gone on and also look at
[597]
your sideview mirror because yes since it's a truck maybe it's bumped into
[601]
things they bump into things what happens is the gasket underneath gets an
[605]
air opening and it's bent and then the air rushes through there so check that I
[609]
fixed mine like that my matrix is doing was driving me nuts
[612]
and it turns out what was it I took off the sideview mirror and I saw a piece of
[616]
the door I'd been in so then I just got some foam insulation at the stor
[620]
and put that on then I put the mirror and gasket on that there was no
[623]
more hole and no more noise either, so if you never want to miss another one
