Laid-off Keystone worker speaks out against Biden canceling pipeline - YouTube
Channel: Fox Business
[0]
executive order spree stretching into
[2]
today
[3]
the focus going to be on climate change
[6]
a ban on new leases for oil and gas
[8]
drilling and fracking on federal lands
[11]
this follows the president's order last
[13]
week revoking the permit for the
[14]
keystone xl pipeline project
[17]
well our next guest was directly
[20]
impacted by these orders i want to bring
[22]
in
[22]
former keystone xl pipeline worker neil
[25]
crabtree neil good morning
[29]
good morning thank you for having me
[30]
well first i want to say i'm so sorry
[32]
about you losing
[33]
uh your job on the pipeline i know that
[36]
you were one of the first groups to be
[37]
uh let go how are you doing
[42]
i'll uh i'm doing fine right now uh
[45]
i'm just taking a few days to kind of
[48]
get my thoughts together
[49]
and uh see what the future holds for me
[52]
but it's uh
[53]
it's nerve wracking right now and uh
[56]
it's an uncertain time for me and i
[57]
think it's an uncertain time for the
[59]
entire country
[60]
how are you and your friends your
[62]
colleagues your co-workers how are they
[64]
handling this i mean i know a lot of you
[67]
moved up to the area
[68]
to work on the pipeline and now this
[71]
news with the stroke of a pen from
[73]
president biden
[76]
uh yes ma'am i mean you spend a lot of
[78]
money you know traveling and and setting
[80]
up
[80]
in these communities you're going to be
[82]
working and then
[83]
you know being told you lost your job
[85]
and have to pack up and come home it's
[86]
uh
[87]
it's financially tough sometimes
[91]
but the guys i work with they're doing
[94]
the best they can too though i mean
[95]
we've got people that haven't worked
[97]
you know in almost a year and we were
[99]
really dependent on this this project to
[101]
uh
[103]
to provide for our industry our families
[106]
insurance we need projects we need
[109]
projects like this all the time
[111]
well and we were just sad that uh sorry
[115]
go ahead go ahead go ahead well i just
[117]
you know go ahead it's 11
[119]
000 workers neil you know it's you it's
[121]
11 000 jobs that we're talking on the
[123]
line here
[124]
and you know you've got president biden
[127]
democrats control congress
[128]
you know they're saying we're going to
[131]
replace
[132]
the pipeline jobs with green energy jobs
[135]
i mean do you see that as something
[136]
that's going to be in your future
[139]
uh this country's got to figure out a
[143]
way to balance it
[144]
we can't go that extreme with this uh
[147]
they're calling the green new deal
[149]
you know actually i refer to it as the
[150]
dark new deal because
[152]
i don't think americans are going to be
[153]
able to afford to keep their lights on
[155]
if we if we go that extreme
[158]
you know it it also too the fact that
[160]
it's not just you know up
[162]
along the pipeline but it's also the
[164]
overall oil and gas industry i mean have
[167]
you thought about maybe
[168]
texas louisiana i mean there's still
[170]
fracking going on i mean is there
[172]
another
[172]
route that you could take in in your
[174]
career now
[177]
uh i'm just afraid this is the beginning
[181]
you know
[181]
with the cancellation of this keystone
[183]
xl we've been fighting
[185]
other projects for years that are
[186]
getting canceled i just think it's uh
[189]
it's the beginning and you know the i'm
[192]
worried about the future
[194]
i really am yeah a lot of people are i
[196]
want to bring in my colleague john
[198]
hilzermath he has a
[199]
a question for you neil if that's okay
[200]
john go ahead yes sir hey
[203]
i'd love to hear a little bit more about
[205]
your journey
[206]
this keystone pipeline has been so up
[208]
and down for the last four years with
[211]
obama rejecting it and then trump
[213]
accepting it and then biden rejecting it
[215]
can you tell us kind of kind of when you
[218]
started working for tc energy
[221]
and kind of what your own path has been
[224]
and kind of where you are now and how
[226]
you got there
[229]
uh well this project's you know has been
[232]
trying to go for almost 10 years now and
[234]
i just i just
[236]
you know recently been employed we just
[238]
got started on construction
[240]
about three weeks ago so i haven't been
[243]
working for
[244]
tc energy this whole time i've been
[246]
doing other projects
[250]
well i mean i could i guess that's my my
[252]
other question there because you know
[253]
now
[254]
just to let our viewers know to let you
[256]
know you know we're going to hear more
[257]
on the oil and gas industry today from
[259]
president biden he's expected to sign
[261]
another
[262]
executive order you know limiting
[264]
drilling you know
[265]
federal lands i mean it seems like
[267]
they're really trying to to clamp down
[270]
i mean if you did have president biden's
[273]
ear nil
[274]
what would you say to him in particular
[276]
about the job losses
[277]
what would you say
[281]
i would ask him to tell the truth about
[283]
the real reason these permits
[285]
are being canceled you know they're
[287]
they're telling the american public is
[289]
because of climate change
[290]
and they're portraying this pipeline as
[293]
new construction
[294]
that's bringing new oil into the country
[296]
and that's just not the truth
[297]
it's the soil's already been coming in
[299]
by a rail car and we're just trying to
[301]
get it in
[302]
in a more efficient way i look at it
[305]
like this uh
[306]
you're trying to get water into your
[308]
house by carrying it a bucket
[310]
at a time out of a outside well let's
[313]
put some americans to work and
[315]
let's build some indoor plumbing and i
[317]
mean
[318]
the if you can transport it
[322]
cheaper i mean the benefits directly
[325]
uh are passed on to the american people
[328]
well neil i would say
[329]
that it's safer by pipeline and i think
[332]
that's what you're kind of alluding to
[334]
here that it
[334]
i mean why why would you want to to
[337]
transport that go back to above ground
[339]
transportation whether it's rail car
[340]
whether it's truck
[342]
those trains those trucks are
[346]
gas guzzling they contribute to the
[349]
emissions problem
[351]
you know and the polluted air the
[352]
climate which is i think that's what
[354]
doesn't make sense to me neil
[358]
it doesn't make sense to a lot of people
[360]
but uh
[363]
i mean you're absolutely right about
[364]
that i mean there's been articles
[367]
written about the amount of traffic on
[368]
these rails
[370]
that are bringing this oil in it's a
[372]
huge safety concern
[374]
you've got a long black train with a
[375]
cloud of smoke coming out of it versus
[378]
a pipeline underground that you never
[380]
see
[381]
like i said yesterday in an interview
[383]
it's it's common sense and uh
[387]
some people don't seem to have common
[388]
sense these days
[390]
well neil good luck to you and please
[392]
keep us posted i do hope
[394]
that that you find something else is in
[396]
the middle of all this and
[397]
we're so sorry about your job loss neil
[400]
okay well thank you for having me on all
[402]
right thank you sir have a great day
