I Stayed At The Cheapest Airbnb In NYC - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
so my friend Jake and I decided to take
[3]
a trip to New York City and one of the
[5]
things him and I tried to do together is
[7]
stepping outside of our comfort zone and
[9]
it's actually a lot of fun this video
[12]
started out as a complete joke but we
[14]
actually did it
[15]
we found the cheapest air B&B in all of
[17]
New York City and stayed for two nights
[19]
you see most people spend a lot of money
[21]
on vacations including myself and we
[23]
wanted to see if it was just as
[25]
enjoyable staying on a budget an extreme
[27]
budget in this case of $30 per night so
[30]
before we get into the tour here is the
[33]
backstory of the listing the original
[35]
listing on Airbnb just showed four
[37]
photos of the same pullout sofa bed
[39]
however a few weeks later there were
[42]
some additional photos of a TV and a few
[44]
office chairs added to the listing one
[46]
thing we made sure to note was the House
[48]
Rules
[49]
which simply said 15 steps so at a total
[52]
cost of $75 and 64 cents we were off to
[56]
New York City
[57]
now just for contrast I have stayed in
[59]
New York City countless times in Airbnb
[62]
and hotels and I typically spend around
[64]
150 to 200 dollars per night so getting
[68]
an Airbnb rental for $30 a night is
[70]
absolutely unheard of and this is very
[73]
cheap for the area so we had no idea of
[76]
what we were getting ourselves into here
[78]
but we decided to find out now this
[87]
particular host actually has 7 different
[89]
listings and it appears they are all in
[92]
the same house he actually has 37
[94]
reviews most of them being 5 stars
[97]
now our room in particular had 11
[99]
ratings and 4.7 3 stars
[101]
overall which was actually extremely
[103]
positive one review did mention a bad
[106]
smell in the bathroom but other than
[108]
that it was all positive
[109]
now one favor I want to ask you guys
[111]
before I reveal the listing if you could
[113]
just go ahead and drop a like on this
[115]
video for the YouTube algorithm it
[116]
really does help out and allows this
[118]
video to get shared with more people and
[120]
it also shows some support for the fact
[123]
that we actually spent two nights at the
[125]
cheapest Airbnb in New York City however
[128]
I will say this there were a number of
[130]
friendly
[131]
animals that greeted us along our
[133]
journey and then I think we were
[136]
drinking and one of us was like hey what
[138]
if we go stay at the cheapest air B&B in
[140]
New York City and then here we are it is
[144]
a Wednesday it is 8:25 a.m. I don't mean
[147]
to embarrass you but it's actually
[149]
Thursday it is Thursday it's Thursday
[151]
and we are staying and the cheapest
[153]
Airbnb that we can find so the key for
[156]
our Airbnb was left for us in the
[158]
mailbox but we couldn't find the right
[160]
one for our room so right off the bat I
[162]
called the host and he answered the
[164]
phone pretty quickly right off the bat
[169]
we've changed he's changed it to number
[171]
four so we're not in number two so he's
[173]
changing our room number great that's
[176]
what I thought was happening there okay
[178]
guys so we just checked into the place
[180]
here not gonna live when we were on the
[182]
train this one woman came up to me and
[185]
tapped me on the arm and she went like
[187]
this and tapped on her eye and then
[188]
pointed to my stuff so I was like not
[191]
really feeling good about the area we
[192]
were going into and I'm beginning to
[195]
understand why this inter B&B is only
[197]
$30 per night and we are actually made
[199]
out much better in this unit because we
[201]
actually have like a full size bed I'm
[203]
actually pretty impressed with it for 30
[204]
bucks a night we do have a trash can
[207]
which appears to be totally empty and
[209]
clean and honestly like the bed looks
[211]
really nice one towel so we're gonna
[213]
have to figure that one out
[215]
we got one towel here at one wash cloth
[217]
but to be honest with you like I'm gonna
[220]
kind of strip the bed just to take it
[222]
look here but it looks pretty clean I
[225]
mean it's white and like that's what it
[227]
say about Airbnb is like it's long if
[229]
it's white you know that it's been
[230]
cleaned and analysis smells completely
[233]
clean yeah this is a totally clean
[236]
pillow we'll just take a quick peek at
[237]
the mattress to make sure but to be
[239]
honest with you this looks like it's a
[240]
really clean bed and yeah there's like
[243]
no stains on this mattress at all
[246]
that you know we have the closet I put
[247]
some myself in here and then we have all
[249]
eight SI units pile up in here so yeah I
[254]
don't know this is uh not bad at all for
[256]
30 bucks I was expecting far worse so we
[259]
ended up in a totally different room
[261]
which was actually a lot nicer than the
[263]
one that we saw in the photos it had a
[265]
real bed with clean linens and a towel
[268]
and washcloth and I have to give them
[270]
credit where credit is due here because
[272]
while this wasn't the nicest place on
[274]
the outside the linens were very clean
[276]
and it's hard to hide stains on plate
[278]
and it was white towels a white
[281]
washcloth and white bedding then
[283]
unfortunately things went downhill when
[285]
we visited the communal bathroom and
[287]
kitchen while there were some cleaning
[289]
supplies underneath the sink
[291]
it didn't seem like they had been used
[293]
at any point in time recently and it was
[295]
at this point that we realized we would
[298]
not be showering for the next two days
[300]
the kitchen itself was totally unusable
[303]
I wouldn't want to cook a meal or eat a
[306]
meal anywhere near that place and you
[308]
couldn't access the backyard because of
[310]
the trash piled up there we did find
[312]
extra towels being stored in the kitchen
[315]
cabinets and the cover for a light
[317]
fixture was inside of the oven so after
[319]
exploring the entire unit we settled in
[321]
for the night
[322]
the next day we did some sightseeing in
[324]
New York City we checked out the Freedom
[326]
Tower and had a number of craft beers
[329]
which explains what happened next when
[332]
we got home that night we were feeling
[334]
breathed and we decided it was time to
[336]
investigate the basement
[338]
if anyone stopped us we would simply
[340]
tell them we were looking for the
[341]
bathroom which at the time based on the
[344]
number of craft beers we had consumed
[346]
that seemed very believable
[364]
so overall what we have to say here is
[366]
that for $30 a night this actually
[368]
exceeded our expectations and I ended up
[371]
giving the host a five-star review our
[373]
room was actually upgraded and despite
[376]
the fact that the location wasn't ideal
[378]
and the building was kind of crappy the
[380]
linens themselves were very clean the
[382]
only thing that was really not great
[384]
about this listing was the kitchen and
[386]
the bathroom but you know what for a
[388]
place to crash for $30 per night it's
[390]
about what you would expect we were like
[392]
you know 20 feet away from a Popeye's
[395]
this whole time so we've been taking
[396]
advantage of that and so yeah honestly
[398]
like I would do this again and it wasn't
[401]
too bad now from this whole experience I
[403]
will certainly have a better
[404]
appreciation for things I take for
[406]
granted at my next Airbnb state such as
[409]
a private bathroom and functioning
[412]
closet doors but at the end of the day
[414]
we had a great time in New York City and
[416]
this was a good place to crash so what
[419]
that's gonna wrap up this video guys if
[420]
you want to check out Jake's video we
[422]
just started doing the channel so if you
[424]
want to see his side of the cheapest
[425]
Airbnb video I will go ahead and put a
[428]
card up in the corner so you can check
[429]
his out but that's gonna wrap up this
[431]
video guys thanks for watching and I
[433]
hope to see you in the next one
