Small business grants aren’t easy to get.

And startup grants can be even harder to find.

Now let’s add in another factor: business grants for minorities.

If your business is minority-owned, then you’ll want to see this list of grants you might

qualify for.

Grants for minority-owned businesses DO exist!

Let’s do a quick walkthrough of 9 grant opportunities for minority business owners.

The National Association For The Self-Employed offers Growth Grants worth up to $4,000 each.

While you won’t hit the funding jackpot with the NASE, it is still a great resource

for minority business owners with a specific, defined funding need.

Note that you’ll need to join NASE (at a cost of $120 for a year) to apply.

Applications are accepted year-round.

AURA The FedEx Small Business Grant Contest is

held annually to award grants in the form of cash and prizes (such as credits for FedEx

Services).

The entry requirements are fairly easy to qualify unless you are a nonprofit, reseller,

a franchise or an independent consultant… in which case you’d be ineligible.

Since 2017, this competition gives startups a chance to connect with investors and venture

capitalists.

There’s also a chance that winners will be awarded prizes from $1000 to $50k for their

pitches!

In order to apply, business founders must be Black or of African descent and have an

equal stake in the business.

Check their website—you’ll find all the links in the description, by the way—to

see if submissions are still being accepted or if you’ll have to wait till next year.

Beauty retailer Sephora is helping aspiring entrepreneurs via grants for minorities through

its Accelerate Program.

In order to apply, applicants need to own an early-stage brand that’s not yet widely

distributed and have at least a sample or prototype of a merchandise product such as

makeup, skincare, fragrance, hair care, or wellness.

Now the number of recipients and submission dates vary each year, but the Asian Women

Giving Circle has distributed over $1 million in funding to Asian American women-owned businesses.

A request for proposals is typically released each January with applications due in March.

AURA Formed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic,

The Coalition To Back Black Businesses is set to run through 2023 and provides Black

business owners impacted by the pandemic.

Grants are valued at $5,000 and will be distributed on a rolling basis.

Eligible businesses must employ between 3 and 20 people and be located in an economically

vulnerable community impacted by coronavirus.

The SoGal Foundation Black Founder Startup Grant program provides grants of $5,000 and

$10,000 to select entrants.

To qualify, applicants must be a Black woman or Black nonbinary entrepreneur.

Multiracial black applicants may also apply.

All entrants must have a registered business, plan to seek investor financing in the future,

and have a scalable business or idea.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

With a mission to “rebuild the block through the organic growth of resources by redistributing

wealth and knowledge to the Black community”, Rebuild The Block is giving out monetary grants

every month.

Freelancers and creative entrepreneurs are eligible for this program, but all applicants

must be a Black-owned small businesses impacted by COVID-19 or looting destruction… and

able to verify the legitimacy of the business and any financial losses incurred.

And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Merchant Maverick’s own Opportunity Grants

program.

2021 was our inaugural year, where we awarded four $10,000 grants to Black female business

owners.

Each year we will open the program to a different demographic or industry that is typically

underfunded.
