project blue collars up and running now
[2]
thanks to that fuel system redo
[4]
unfortunately once we got it up to
[6]
operating temperature we found out that
[8]
it has either a TFI module or a pickup
[10]
module problem with the distributor now
[13]
to solve every ignition problem we have
[15]
with this car we're going to go ahead
[17]
and use our PDI ignition kit what this
[20]
ignition kits going to do for us is
[21]
increase horsepower improve idle quality
[24]
and improve fuel economy let's talk a
[26]
little bit about the components of this
[28]
kit the performance distributors hot
[31]
Forge distributor features a hot forged
[34]
aluminum housing that CNC machined
[36]
versus a billet aluminum housing that
[39]
allows for a lower cost unit with higher
[42]
strength it's loaded with an oil
[44]
impregnated bronze bushing that the
[46]
shaft rides on for a long service life
[49]
the shaft also is fitted with a steel
[52]
distributor gear for use with roller
[54]
camshafts the cap has brass terminals
[58]
which are better conducting than the
[60]
aluminum terminals found on the stock
[62]
distributor cap the Dynamat ignition
[65]
module also call the TFI module gives
[68]
you a longer coil saturation time which
[70]
allows for a longer spark duration that
[73]
helps give you the better idle fuel
[75]
economy and higher horsepower the
[77]
performance distributors screamin demon
[79]
ignition coil has a tighter winding and
[82]
a more concentrated winding for
[85]
increased spark energy this increased
[87]
spark energy allows you to open up your
[89]
spark plug gap to about 65 thousands on
[92]
a naturally aspirated car it also
[94]
features a brass terminal for better
[97]
conductivity and increased corrosion
[99]
resistance the performance distributors
[102]
live wires are an excellent addition to
[104]
the hot Forge distributor and the
[106]
screamin demon cool because they'll get
[107]
all that extra spark energy to the spark
[110]
plug
[110]
they feature a very low resistance about
[113]
300 to 350 ohms per foot they're
[116]
spiral-wound so you don't end up with a
[118]
new radio interference they have heat
[121]
shrink tends to keep the moisture out of
[123]
the boots a heat braid that is up good
[127]
up to about 1400 degrees and they're
[130]
also cut to length and numb
[132]
for each cylinder making them the best
[135]
plug wire for your Mustang to remove the
[139]
distributor from your 5 liter Mustang
[140]
you want to go ahead and remove the
[142]
distributor cap and then make a note of
[145]
where the rotor is pointing and where
[148]
your TFI module is pointing because you
[150]
want to line up the new distributor in
[151]
the same location unplug the TFI module
[155]
then grab you a 1/2 inch socket with a
[158]
ratchet and completely remove the hold
[161]
down bolt and hold down bracket for the
[163]
distributor then lift the distributor up
[166]
and out of the engine every hot fuller's
[169]
distributor includes a package of
[171]
camshaft lubrication this packet is to
[174]
be used drizzle some down onto the
[176]
camshaft and put some on the steel gear
[178]
on the end of the distributor and then
[181]
you can go ahead and install it into
[182]
place slide the distributor down into
[184]
the block lining up the rotor with the
[189]
oil pump shaft and the camshaft and
[193]
rotate it around to where it's pointing
[195]
back in the same direction as the old
[197]
distributor and then line up the TFI
[200]
module to where it's pointing the same
[202]
direction as on the old distributor
[205]
reinstall the hold down clamp and bulb
[209]
plug in your TFI module replacing your
[213]
spark plug wires is very simple and
[215]
doesn't require a whole lot of thought
[217]
however I do want to point out a couple
[219]
of things that you want to keep in mind
[220]
namely the firing order and then how to
[224]
remove the spark plug wires from the
[226]
spark plugs now starting on the
[229]
passenger side at the front you have
[232]
cylinder number one then two three and
[235]
at the back is number four then moving
[237]
over to the driver's side you've got
[239]
cylinder number five at the front and
[241]
six seven and number eight is at the
[244]
very back next to the firewall now on
[247]
top of the cap the firing order is one
[249]
three seven two six five four and eight
[257]
the coil is in the center now to remove
[260]
your spark plug wire it would be easier
[262]
to give the boot a twist and then pull
[265]
it away
[266]
that way you don't have you break the
[267]
the boot loose from the plug makes it
[269]
easier to pull off replacing the coil on
[272]
your 86 to 93 5.0 Mustang is extremely
[276]
simple first thing you're going to want
[278]
to do is remove your coil wire then
[281]
unplug the electrical connector grab you
[284]
a nut driver with a swivel and a 7/32
[287]
socket and remove the four 7/32 bolts
[291]
that retain the coil to the bracket
[294]
remove the stop coil
[297]
put your new coil into place reattach
[300]
the four bolts plug in your electrical
[303]
connector and reattach the coil wire now
[307]
our performance distributors ignition
[309]
kit also includes spark plug wire looms
[311]
you can put those wherever you need to
[313]
on your car here's where we install them
[315]
on ours now installation will take you
[318]
about a couple hours and like we said
[321]
before the addition of that screaming
[323]
demon coil allows you to open up your
[325]
spark plug gap up to 65,000 so when we
[327]
swapped everything out we went ahead and
[329]
put in a new set of motor craft plugs
[331]
with that larger gap now for more
