Wealthfront Custom Portfolios Review - Passive Investing Made Easy - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
If you're interested in investing
[1]
in individual stocks,
but you still want the peace of mind
[4]
of passively investing in index funds
with a robo advisor,
[7]
then Wealthfront's new customizable portfolios
can help you achieve just that.
[12]
And if you're not familiar
[12]
with Wealthfront,
it's actually one of the top robo advisors
[15]
for investors who really want to automate
their investments through diversification
[20]
and also tax efficient
investment strategies.
[22]
Now, robo advisors,
one cool thing about them is they really
[25]
do take the guesswork out of timing
the market by automating your investments,
[29]
really from the moment
that you fund your account.
[32]
And when it comes to Wealthfront,
they're no different.
[34]
They're automated trades really do handle
everything for you to ensure that your
[38]
ideal asset allocations
stay intact over time.
[41]
Not only do they provide automated
investment strategies, though,
[44]
but they also provide a cash management
account and also automated financial
[48]
planning, as well as
a dedicated interface.
[50]
One of my favorite features to really
[51]
track and monitor all your investment
brokerages and bank accounts.
[55]
But in this video, guys, specifically,
we're not going be talking about that.
[58]
We're going to be talking about the new
[59]
customized portfolios
coming to Wealthfront.
[62]
And the reason I want to break this down
is because this new customization feature
[66]
really does give you more control over
your investments on the Wealthfront app.
[69]
Now, after the video,
you would like to learn more about
[71]
Wealthfront and other investment
and savings features.
[74]
I'll be sure to link down my full
[75]
Wealthfront review down below
in the description box.
[78]
And also, if you want to jump ahead or
[80]
jump back to any part of today's video,
[83]
I'll be sure to include the timestamps
down below in the description as well.
[87]
And of course, for more free
stock and sign-up bonuses.
[90]
Be sure to check out my website,
InvestingApps.com.
[93]
Let's now hop into the portfolio
[95]
customization features
coming to Wealthfront.
[97]
So up until this point,
[99]
one of the biggest limitations
with Wealthfront was the fact
[102]
that the control you had over your
investments was kind of limited.
[105]
But with this recent update,
this limitation is now being removed
[109]
because previously with Wealthfront,
they would determine your risk level
[113]
and assign you a pre-built portfolio based
on your risk tolerance,
[117]
your investment horizon,
and ultimately your investment objectives.
[120]
And while they still offer this robo
advisor like functionality for investors
[124]
who really want to just
set it and forget it,
[126]
with that type of investment approach,
they're now giving you the investor
[130]
the ability to take more control
over what you invest in.
[133]
For instance, let's say that you're
[135]
passionate about making the world a better
place and you really would like a whole
[139]
portfolio of socially
responsible investments.
[141]
Right.
[142]
Or maybe you would enjoy one
of Wealthfront's recommended portfolios,
[145]
but you want to change just
one or two asset classes.
[148]
You see, investing is a very personal
thing and your choices do matter.
[152]
While Wealthfront's recommended diversified
[154]
portfolios of index funds is a great way
to invest passively in the stock market
[159]
you may also want more control over being
[161]
able to construct a portfolio
that you truly believe in.
[164]
Now, with Wealthfront,
[165]
you can easily adjust the weights
and asset classes and add ETFs
[169]
based on your personal preferences.
And whether that's socially responsible
[173]
investments or simply more
exposure to various asset classes.
[177]
It's nice to know that Wealthfront
has listened to its users.
[180]
Now, regardless of how you build your
[181]
portfolio, whether you implement
Wealthfront recommendations,
[184]
you modify those portfolios, you simply
start with a blank slate, or even transfer
[189]
a portfolio from another brokerage,
you can now automatically create your own
[194]
ideal portfolio and let
Wealthfront automate the rest.
[197]
Now let's talk about Wealthfront ETFs,
because one of the biggest investment
[201]
vehicles for robo advisors is exchange
traded funds or ETFs. And ETFs
[206]
are basically a group of related
[207]
stocks bundled together
in a single investment.
[210]
Now, exchange-traded funds are great
for passive investing because they're
[214]
diversified, tax-efficient,
and you really can find ETFs for any
[218]
sector, market, commodity
or investment strategy.
[221]
And while many robo advisors typically
allow you to invest in preselected pool
[226]
of ETFs, many asset classes are
not available on those platforms.
[230]
Now, Wealthfront portfolio customization
feature gives you back some of this
[234]
control because let's say you're
feeling a bit bullish on tech.
[237]
You can easily add a tech ETF
like QQQ to your portfolio.
[241]
On the other hand, if you want to invest
[242]
in innovative companies,
you can always invest in Cathie Woods
[246]
award-winning ARKK ETF
on the app just the same.
[249]
And if you want to even add more
[250]
diversity, you can easily invest across
multiple sectors like real estate,
[254]
energy, and even several ETFs that invest
in socially responsible companies.
[259]
Now, while it's not available yet,
Wealthfront also does plan to eventually
[263]
allow you to hold crypto
in your portfolio as well.
[266]
Talk about diversification
of your investments, right?
[268]
So let's now talk about Wealthfront
[270]
investing automation,
because whether you invest in one of their
[273]
recommended portfolios or you customize
your own investments to better meet your
[277]
needs, Wealthfront will help you
automate your account either way.
[280]
Because once you've set up and created
your portfolio on Wealthfront there,
[284]
robo-like characteristics
really start to kick in.
[287]
And I'm talking about
automation features such as smart dividend
[291]
reinvestment, tax-efficient rebalancing
and even tax-loss harvesting.
[295]
And oftentimes their automated tax
loss harvesting alone can really.
[299]
Generate enough tax savings for you
[301]
to more than offset their advisory
fees for their recommended portfolios.
[305]
Now, if you would like to learn more about
[307]
these automated investment features inside
the app, I do discuss them a lot more
[311]
in depth in my full
Wealthfront review video.
[314]
But the main gist of these features is
[316]
simply that they really do provide your
portfolio an advantage by maximizing your
[321]
after tax returns with no
additional effort on your end.
[324]
Now, let's take a second, guys,
to look at a product demo that Wealthfront
[327]
put together to really help me show you
what their clients are experiencing when
[331]
it comes to customizing
their portfolio on the app.
[333]
So in order to customize your portfolio
[335]
on Wealthfront,
whether it be an individual investment
[337]
account or an IRA retirement account,
it's a pretty straightforward process.
[341]
Either way, you're going to scroll down
from the home page to your account.
[344]
And again, like I said,
[345]
it could be an IRA or a taxable
individual investment account.
[349]
Simply click on the account
[350]
you want to customize. You're then going
[352]
to scroll down a little down below
where it says edit portfolio.
[355]
When you click on edit portfolio.
[357]
this is going to show you
[358]
the current breakdown of your
portfolio on Wealthfront.
[361]
And again, remember, on Wealthfront,
you can hold multiple portfolios.
[365]
I'm just showing you an example in their
[366]
product demo of one particular
investment account right here.
[369]
So once you're inside your investment
[372]
portfolio, you can see the current
breakdown of ETFs as well as their
[375]
percentage, which is the asset
allocation of that particular portfolio.
[379]
So let's say you want to customize this
[381]
portfolio, you can simply
click on add investment.
[384]
Now, if you click on add investment here,
you can see there are a lot of investment
[388]
options and opportunities that were not
previously available on Wealthfront.
[392]
So you can invest in U.S. stocks
available in the United States.
[395]
Now, this these are not individual stocks
technically, but are ETFs that are
[400]
composed of individual stocks
based on different sectors.
[403]
So as you could see here, you have ARKK,
[405]
which is again,
Cathie Woods Innovation ETF.
[408]
You also have QQQ,
[409]
another very popular ETF that is a
heavily focused technology ETF.
[413]
And there are several others here as well.
[415]
You have Schwab, U.S. SmallCap.
[417]
Those are up and coming companies.
[418]
So you have a lot of different ETFs here,
real estate as well as growth stocks.
[425]
You have materials, energy, financial,
industrial, more technology,
[430]
consumer staples, utilities,
health care, consumer discretionary.
[434]
So as you can see,
there are a lot of ETFs.
[436]
You can really go in here and customize
[438]
your Wealthfront portfolio,
and that's just one section.
[441]
You can also add in bonds to your
portfolio if you want to add a little bit
[444]
of bond exposure, which is never
a bad idea, that's completely fine.
[448]
You can go in there as well.
[449]
There's also foreign and emerging markets.
[451]
So you want some international
exposure to your portfolio portfolio.
[455]
You don't just want all your
investments in U.S. stocks.
[458]
Well, here you can find ETFs that invest
[460]
in different emerging and foreign
markets across the world.
[463]
Next up, we have different sectors.
[465]
Like I said, guys, you can invest in real
[467]
estate, materials, communication
services, energy, financial.
[470]
The list goes on and
on as you can see.
[473]
You really have a lot of freedom to go
[475]
in here and fine tune your portfolio
to really what you want to invest in.
[478]
So that's really cool.
[479]
Sectors, there are also
investment strategies
[482]
like innovation, global robotics.
You have dividend ETFs.
[486]
If you're a big dividend investor,
[488]
you can invest in a dividend ETF like the
Vanguard Dividend Appreciation ETF here.
[492]
There's also value stocks, growth stocks.
[494]
So you definitely have a lot
of strategies here as well.
[498]
Also socially responsible for my friends
out there who want to invest in companies
[502]
that are trying to be sustainable
with socially responsible practices.
[505]
You have that option here as well
with several socially responsible ETFs.
[510]
You can add to your portfolio
and of course, commodities,
[513]
if you want to invest in, say,
gold or energy, you can invest in ETFs
[517]
that are heavily focused
on those commodities.
[519]
So all in all,
you do have a lot of freedom to add
[522]
and customize your portfolio
on Wealthfront now.
[525]
Now, for example,
let's say you want to invest in some real
[528]
estate and add some real estate
to your Wealthfront portfolio.
[531]
To do that, you can go to sectors here
[533]
and let's click on VNQ, that is
the Vanguard Real Estate ETF.
[537]
Click on VNQ and you can
simply choose add to portfolio.
[541]
Once you do that, it's going
to add value to your portfolio.
[543]
As you see, it currently has zero percent.
[545]
Now, just like with all investment apps,
[547]
you cannot exceed 100
percent in your portfolio.
[550]
Right.
It's a pie basically.
[551]
So if you want to add some real estate,
[554]
some of this real estate ETF to your
portfolio, you have to remove some
[557]
percentage from some of your
other existing investments.
[561]
So let's say I want to reduce some
of my total stock market ETFs.
[566]
Let's say I cut this down to,
let's say 25%
[569]
that gives me the ability to add
10% to real estate.
[573]
So now I can click continue here.
[575]
And that would officially add real estate
[578]
ETF, a real estate ETF
to my investment portfolio.
[581]
Again, it's a pretty simple,
straightforward process.
[584]
This is just an example here
with their product demo.
[586]
But if you click continue here,
it's going to give you the option
[589]
to update your portfolio
and they'll rebalance it over time.
[592]
It would simply click
on update right there.
[594]
And that would now, as you could see here
[596]
we go back to your portfolio
here in this example.
[599]
And now has real estate currently zero
[601]
percent, but again,
they're going to automate and rebalance
[604]
this portfolio over time so
that it does become 10 percent.
[607]
Again, guys, after you've made any changes
[609]
to your portfolio, asset allocations,
Wealthfront takes over from there.
[613]
All of the buying and selling are handled
[616]
automatically to ensure again that your
ideal allocations stay intact over time.
[620]
And when it comes to customizing your
[622]
portfolio and Wealthfront, you can
change your asset allocation any time.
[625]
So really, whether you want whether your
values change over time or you simply want
[629]
to increase or decrease exposure
to certain asset classes can all be done
[633]
with just a few clicks on the app
any time, like I said.
[636]
Now, also, keep in mind, guys,
[638]
that you are allowed to open multiple
investment accounts on Wealthfront.
[641]
And the benefit of this is that you can if
[644]
you already have an existing Wealthfront
investment account of one of their
[647]
recommended portfolios,
let's just say you don't have to modify
[650]
its asset allocations if you don't want
to, because while you can do that,
[654]
you can easily just open up an additional
investment account on Wealthfront that is
[658]
solely dedicated to a new
custom portfolio.
[660]
Right.
[661]
So this can definitely be extremely
helpful if you want to keep your more
[665]
conservative investments separate
from your more aggressive investments.
[668]
Right.
[669]
So it's definitely a way to help
keep those separate.
[672]
Now, of course, guys,
one of my favorite features
[674]
on the Wealthfront app is the ability
to track and monitor all your investment
[677]
brokerages and bank accounts,
all from a single dashboard.
[681]
And while you can't customize your
external investment portfolios through
[685]
the Wealthfront app,
it's pretty convenient to be able to track
[687]
and monitor all your investment
accounts, all from one place.
[691]
Now, if you would like to see how you can
easily track and monitor all your
[694]
investment accounts and bank accounts all
through the Wealthfront app from a single
[698]
dashboard, be sure to check out my full
other Wealthfront tutorial videos as well,
[702]
which show you how to do just that. Now,
when it comes to Wealthfront
[706]
it's no secret that the platform
excels as a robo advisor.
[709]
The app can help you automate your
[711]
investments,
manage your cash and ultimately help you
[713]
save invest towards reaching
your financial goals.
[715]
Right.
So if you would like to try Wealthfront
[717]
for yourself,
my friends over at Wealthfront have been
[720]
