A Day in the Life of a Hedge Fund Investment Analyst - Working From Home (due to COVID-19) REPOST - YouTube

Channel: Tiana Xiao

[16]
Wow, you’re awake
[30]
I’m gonna do a vlog a "work from home"
[35]
Okay
[38]
Whoa, little monkey
[39]
Okay, clearly that was staged, I don’t know why
[43]
when people do these vlogs of a day in the life of
[47]
they film themselves getting up
[50]
because it’s one of three options, right?
[51]
One is, it was staged, like mine was. Two is, you have somebody hovering over your
[55]
bed, Or you
[56]
Oh, your bed, and consequentially you, and they’re filming you when you’re asleep
[60]
and waking up at that moment of waking up
[62]
IF it was authentic
[63]
And three, you have a camera stand there with your camera for the entire evening
[67]
filming you when you get up
[70]
So I’m stepping out of my room (I don’t know what exactly I said, I probably got startled by the noise)
[73]
[my hubby grunting]
[75]
Kids distracting parents while they’re working
[79]
and he also does this to me and yeah, my very messy living room
[86]
It’s a really nice, beautiful day out today
[93]
So, (I) have to sign in
[103]
And constantly the kid coming out and auntie having to catch him
[105]
back into his room!
[106]
Right?
[109]
So I’m still checking my emails I just cut my bangs
[113]
it looks retarded but I don’t really wanna go to
[117]
a hair salon right now
[118]
and also, I don’t want to go to a hair salon
[120]
for just bangs
[121]
Mmm [typing sound]
[126]
[construction sound]
[131]
So I was told that my excel doesn’t connect to my Bloomberg
[134]
because I didn’t launch it with the Excel Add-In
[144]
I’m doing this ‘cause my nostrils look really big when I do this
[147]
Okay, I’m launching it now
[149]
[typing sound]
[154]
…possible that the Mac is not compatible
[158]
with the Bloomberg + Excel Add-In?
[165]
So I’m super excited today because we have this IPO right now, which is pretty
[170]
rare these days given the COVID-19
[173]
My bangs look retarded ‘cause I just cut them by myself
[175]
Yeah so I just got done with 2 conference calls,
[176]
and now I’m gonna work on the analysis of this IPO
[179]
and do an internal write-up
[185]
So I just finished my internal write-up about the deal
[188]
and uh, oh yeah, I have to finish logging these other deals that
[191]
the ones that we passed on my baby had really good timing
[194]
in that he woke up right after I finished my write-up
[197]
So I'm finished with part of the work for the AM session
[202]
and we’re gonna have lunch soon
[205]
Do that again
[206]
Were you gonna pretend like you were typing?
[214]
So this is my lunch we always use share-chopsticks at home now
[217]
and share-spoons (serving spoons) mapo-tofu, Huiguorou (twice cooked pork)
[220]
and veggies… and, mushrooms?
[226]
Okay, I would say that there’s no real typical day,
[229]
‘cause when there are deals, I just talk to various brokers about the book color of
[235]
every deal I run my analysis on it, I do internal write-ups
[240]
Usually deals close in the mornings or a lot of deals close in the mornings for us
[243]
There are some that close in the afternoons
[246]
but yeah, so usually if there isn’t a deal that closes in the afternoon that day for us
[251]
then I’ll use my afternoons to look at my
[253]
paper portfolio
[256]
Ugh, I’m so tired.
[258]
more emails came out
[259]
and I’m checking emails, making sure I don’t miss anything.
[262]
it’s 4pm right now, and so the Japan market is closed,
[267]
so I just wanna check if any deals have launched. because… there’s a lot of deals launching lately.
[295]
So sometimes in order to get new ideas for my portfolio,
[298]
I do some stock screens, or I talk to analysts or salespeople,
[302]
or rummage through my emails or broker reports
[304]
Since I am a sector generalist and country specialist,
[306]
at least for investing purposes, anything goes for my coverage universe
[310]
Sometimes I pace around in my hallway and living room
[313]
when I think about stock ideas
[320]
Oh my gosh I literally just fell asleep on this conference call
[324]
for like 5 minutes
[326]
It was a group call, so I didn’t have to speak, thank God
[330]
Who does that?
[333]
I have to say, the best part of working from home,
[337]
is that I get to spend time with my little one
