Roy Pulver is a retired Delta Force soldier聽聽

currently going through the one hundred聽
thirty-nine version of this very same day.聽聽

He is stuck in a time loop that resets every time聽
he dies, and he has gone through it so many times,聽聽
[21]
he has already learned the day's pattern聽
by heart. Every morning at seven am,聽聽
[24]
a man breaks into his apartment and tries to聽
kill him and the woman he slept with, then聽聽
[28]
a helicopter with a gunman appears outside his聽
window and shoots his apartment until explodes.聽聽
[33]
Roy knows exactly where and how to move to聽
avoid all this, and jumps off the window to聽聽
[37]
land on a truck filled with sand, which he had聽
missed twenty-two times before he started to聽聽
[41]
get it right. Then he hijacks a car and drives聽
to escape two more assassins in a minivan - Roy聽聽
[46]
does not know their names, so he calls them Pam聽
and Esmerelda. These women chase him and shoot聽聽
[51]
at him throughout the city, but Roy knows how to聽
escape them as long as he does not get distracted聽聽
[55]
and remembers to dodge the bus. Since this time he聽
does not, the day resets and restarts again. Only聽聽
[61]
little details change during each loop, totally聽
dependant on what Roy decides or forgets to do.聽聽
[66]
Besides the guy at his apartment, the helicopter聽
and Pam, there are other assassins like Guan-yin,聽聽
[70]
who usually kills him with a sword; Kaboom,聽
a short man that plans a bomb on him;聽聽
[75]
Smiley, who likes to kill him by impaling him with聽
a lance and tying him to the back of his trunk;聽聽
[79]
the German twins; and a guy that looks a聽
lot like him so he calls him Roy Number Two.聽聽
[83]
Sometimes he manages to kill some of them, but in聽
the end, it does not matter, the others find him聽聽
[88]
and kill him anyway. Roy thinks the one with聽
the answers to explain what is going on is聽聽
[92]
his ex-wife, but when he calls her office, the聽
one to pick up the phone is her boss, Colonel聽聽
[96]
Clive Ventor, who tells him she has died in an聽
accident, but Roy believes he has killed her.聽聽
[101]
Sadly though, he never manages to live long enough聽
to find out why. On the days he manages to escape聽聽
[106]
the bus and Pam, Roy makes it to Jake's diner,聽
where he must hurry to take a seat at the bar or聽聽
[110]
the last spot will be taken by Dai Feng, a world聽
champion swordmaster that Jake has a crush on.聽聽
[116]
Roy proceeds to get deeply drunk while聽
listening to the man sitting next to him,聽聽
[119]
Dave, talk about internal security and聽
conspiracy theories. At twelve forty-seven,聽聽
[124]
the assassins always find him and kill him聽
right there in the middle of the diner,聽聽
[127]
which means Roy has never made it even a minute聽
past this point. If he does not come to the diner,聽聽
[132]
then he just gets killed earlier: he has already聽
tried as many alternate roads as possible.聽聽
[137]
As he is shot once again by every single one聽
of the assassins, Roy remembers the day before聽聽
[141]
the time-loop started. He is visiting his ex-wife聽
Jemma Wells at her workplace, Dynow Laboratories,聽聽
[146]
after she left him a message asking him to come聽
over because her company is hiring. However, she聽聽
[151]
does not seem too interested in her resum茅 or to聽
reconnect after not seeing each other in a while,聽聽
[155]
she just starts taking Roy's measurements and聽
a sample of his hair, which draws blood when聽聽
[159]
she pulls it. While Ventor and his bodyguard Brett聽
watch them through the security cameras, Roy asks聽聽
[164]
Jemma about this weird machine she is working on,聽
which she claims can unmake all time and space,聽聽
[169]
and even destroy the planet if used improperly.聽
Roy also brings up the matter of their son,聽聽
[174]
who does not know he is his father, he just聽
thinks Roy's a family friend. Begging to be heard,聽聽
[178]
Roy tells Jemma he can accept having lost her when聽
he chose work over her, but he deserves a chance聽聽
[183]
to be in his son's life. Their talk is suddenly聽
interrupted by Brett, who reminds Jemma this is聽聽
[187]
a restricted area, but Jemma says she has got聽
a special agreement with Ventor. When Roy tries聽聽
[192]
to give him his resum茅, Brett says they are not聽
hiring, which means Jemma lied, but she sends him聽聽
[197]
away before he could say more. Before Roy leaves聽
the building, Jemma tells him she has sent him a聽聽
[201]
birthday present that is incredibly important for聽
him to open and that he should remember "Osiris".聽聽
[206]
Meanwhile, Ventor does not like the fact Roy has聽
seen and learned things about his experiments,聽聽
[210]
so he orders Brett to deal with him by hiring聽
random assets instead of trained soldiers so聽聽
[214]
nobody can track the assassins back to them. Then聽
he asks Jemma to come to his office and scolds her聽聽
[219]
for having broken security protocols by inviting聽
Roy over. When night falls, Roy goes to a bar聽聽
[224]
and picks up a woman called Alice, who works as a聽
dental hygienist. She is just one more woman in a聽聽
[229]
long line of conquests, and the bartender points聽
out Roy will never be happy with these one-night聽聽
[233]
stands because he never stops thinking about his聽
ex-wife. While Alice is in the bathroom, he gets聽聽
[238]
a call from Jemma, telling him she is about to聽
do something drastic and she needs his help,聽聽
[242]
but Ventor cuts off their line before she can聽
say more. Roy could tell Jemma sounded upset,聽聽
[247]
but he still chooses to go back to his place聽
with Alice instead of trying to reach her again.聽聽
[251]
While Roy and Alice have fun together, Jemma puts聽
Roy's hair and blood in a tube that she inserts聽聽
[256]
inside the machine she has been working on. Seeing聽
this on the security cameras, Ventor decides she聽聽
[260]
has gone rogue and sends Brett after her. This聽
was the last normal day Roy got to live before聽聽
[265]
the loop started. But now that he has revisited聽
his memory of his conversation with Jemma,聽聽
[269]
he realizes he has never checked the birthday聽
present she has sent her, so he finally opens the聽聽
[274]
package and finds a book titled "Iset and Osiris"聽
with a note from Jemma on the back cover that says聽聽
[278]
time waits for no man. He is so distracted by the聽
book that he forgets about taking the right steps聽聽
[283]
to avoid the assassins. He dies two more times聽
before he manages to escape with the book thanks聽聽
[287]
to finding a button on the car he always hijacks聽
that he has never noticed before. After pressing聽聽
[292]
it, the car starts going much faster, causing Roy聽
to miss the exit that takes him to Jake's diner.聽聽
[297]
Instead, he ends up at the Underground Atlanta聽
mall, where he sits down to read the book Jemma聽聽
[301]
left him. He does not understand what the story聽
of Iset and Osiris has to do with anything,聽聽
[306]
but he interrupts his reading when he sees his聽
son Joe buying something from an older kid.聽聽
[310]
When he realizes that he is the only family he has聽
left now that Jemma is dead, he follows Joe into聽聽
[315]
an arcade where they hold esports tournaments.聽
Every time he walks near a screen, he causes them聽聽
[320]
to glitch, but Roy does not notice this, he just聽
approaches Joe and scolds him for ditching school.聽聽
[325]
He also asks him what he bought, but Joe shows聽
him they are just cards, not any kind of illegal聽聽
[329]
substance. Then Roy invites him to lunch, and as聽
soon as they leave the building, he notices it is聽聽
[334]
twelve fifty, the longest he has ever lived since聽
the loops started. As he analyses what he has聽聽
[339]
done differently, he finally realizes they must聽
have put a tracker on him, and the metal walls聽聽
[343]
of the diner and the underground location of the聽
shopping mall have kept him safe. At that moment,聽聽
[348]
the assassins arrive and shoot Roy as he grabs Joe聽
and puts himself between the bullets and his son,聽聽
[352]
dying as he tells him he is his father. When聽
the day restarts once again, he asks the man聽聽
[357]
that has broken into his apartment about the聽
tracker, but he will not tell him where it is.聽聽
[361]
Moments later, Roy arrives at the diner and goes聽
straight to the bathroom so he can closely inspect聽聽
[366]
his body, going as far as putting fingers up his聽
own rear, but he still does not find the tracker.聽聽
[370]
Remembering Dave knows all about this stuff,聽
he asks him where he would hide a tracker,聽聽
[374]
and Dave suggests the teeth. This brings back聽
a memory to Roy: Alice, the dental hygienist,聽聽
[380]
putting him to sleep on a dentist chair while聽
Brett watches them - she had been part of their聽聽
[384]
trap all along. After getting more alcohol and聽
pliers from Jake, Roy goes to the bathroom with聽聽
[388]
Dave and starts removing his teeth until he聽
finds the tracker, only to be killed a second聽聽
[393]
later by Roy Number Two. When the day restarts,聽
he interrogates Alice, who tells him she had been聽聽
[398]
paid by Brett to implant the tracker before she聽
leaves. Roy follows the usual routine until he聽聽
[403]
makes it to Jake's diner, where he removes the聽
tooth with the tracker and then takes it to an聽聽
[406]
abandoned building to use it as a trap. His plan聽
works and Pam shows up, but she refuses to say聽聽
[411]
who hired her, so he kills her with her own gun,聽
which used to belong to a certain Geman dictator.聽聽
[416]
Roy knows Jemma has put him in this for a reason,聽
but since he can not go far back enough to save聽聽
[421]
her, everything is meaningless. The only thing聽
he has left is revenge, so Roy has fun with聽聽
[426]
his newfound tracker-less freedom and kills all聽
the assassins that have been chasing him. Using聽聽
[430]
the phone he stole from Kaboom, he talks to Brett聽
and promises he will find him and Ventor as well.聽聽
[435]
Roy drives to the laboratories and tries to smash聽
the door open with the car, but he just crashes聽聽
[439]
and is shot by Brett afterward. A series of loops聽
start then where Roy keeps trying different plans聽聽
[444]
to sneak into Dynow, like sending his car with聽
bombs and pretending to be Roy Number Two.聽聽
[449]
Stealing his ID does allow him to get inside,聽
but once again, it takes him a few tries until聽聽
[454]
he manages to learn all the tricks to avoid the聽
guards and security cameras. When he finally聽聽
[458]
manages to find a way to sneak some weapons with聽
him, the guards are not a problem anymore, but his聽聽
[462]
next obstacle is Guan-yin, whose sword fighting聽
skills are too good for him to stop her with聽聽
[466]
mere wallets. Sometimes, he does not die quickly聽
enough from the sword wounds and Ventor finds him,聽聽
[472]
giving the same long, dense speech about his聽
plans to reset history before killing him.聽聽
[476]
It is during one of these speeches that Roy learns聽
the name of the project is the "Osiris Spindle",聽聽
[480]
and he realizes two things: Ventor does not聽
know it is working, and Jemma has put him in聽聽
[485]
it on purpose so he could become Osiris and聽
stop Ventor and his plans. Feeling empowered聽聽
[489]
after learning Jemma still believed in him, Roy聽
starts a new series of loops with a new plan.聽聽
[494]
After going through the usual routine up to聽
removing the tracker at the diner's bathroom,聽聽
[498]
he approaches Dai Feng and asks her for sword聽
lessons, and she accepts to teach him because聽聽
[501]
she finds him intriguing. He trains with her聽
through a good amount of loops until he is good聽聽
[506]
enough to beat her, and after thanking her for her聽
lessons, he sneaks into Dynow again. This time,聽聽
[511]
he fights against Guan-yin with a sword instead聽
of guns and easily stops all her moves. After聽聽
[515]
teasing her a bit by cutting off her ponytail,聽
he stabs her with her own sword. Brett and Ventor聽聽
[520]
arrive then, but Brett dies quickly when Roy聽
stabs him on the forehead with the sword.聽聽
[524]
He and Ventor begin to fistfight, and when Ventor聽
tries to grab a gun, Roy recovers his sword and聽聽
[529]
nails Ventor's hand to the floor as he explains聽
nobody should play god and rewrite history,聽聽
[534]
the past should be left as it is so we can learn聽
from it. Ventor thinks those are big words coming聽聽
[538]
from an absent father and implies Joe may be in聽
danger, which enrages Roy. After killing Ventor,聽聽
[544]
he gets back in his car and rushes to the mall,聽
where he finds out he is too late: his son is聽聽
[548]
dead, and this probably has already happened many聽
times during all the loops he has been through.聽聽
[552]
While he struggles against the police that聽
does not let him come closer to see Joe's body,聽聽
[556]
a bright light appears on the horizon: it is the聽
end of the world, just like Jemma had warned him.聽聽
[561]
Roy comes to the conclusion Jemma is dead because聽
he left her and never called her back when she聽聽
[565]
asked for his help, and now their son is involved聽
in this too. If the world is going to end anyway,聽聽
[570]
there is no point in doing anything, so Roy begins聽
to spend the next few loops in an apathetic state,聽聽
[575]
allowing the assassins to kill him over and聽
over. One morning, however, the violence finally聽聽
[580]
makes him snap out of it and he decides to take聽
advantage of all the time he now has in his hands.聽聽
[584]
He returns to the mall and picks up Joe to spend聽
the day together, playing video games and having聽聽
[589]
lunch - he does this every loop until the end of聽
the world takes them and resets the day yet again.聽聽
[593]
He wants to tell Joe he is his father, but he聽
is too afraid to do it. During loop two hundred聽聽
[597]
forty-nine, Roy brings up the subject of Jemma's聽
work, and Joe reveals he talked to her early in聽聽
[603]
the morning after she did not return home. This聽
shocks Roy, who always thought she was killed聽聽
[607]
during the night, so now he starts a new plan to聽
see if he can save her. After resetting the day,聽聽
[612]
he sneaks back into the laboratories and shoots聽
Ventor and Brett while demanding answers.聽聽
[616]
Brett confesses they had been trying to聽
find out what she did to the Osiris Spindle,聽聽
[620]
because it seems she sabotaged it and now they聽
can not control the chain reaction she started.聽聽
[624]
Ventor realizes Roy is able to sneak in because聽
the Spindle is working, which means Jemma made聽聽
[629]
him the missing mass. When looking at the security聽
cameras, Roy finds out the exact time of Jemma's聽聽
[634]
death: fourteen minutes after he wakes up.聽
After shooting himself to restart the day,聽聽
[638]
Roy decides to try to save Jemma even if he聽
only has fourteen minutes to do it. As always,聽聽
[643]
he kills the first assassin, but afterward, he聽
makes the routine different by jumping directly聽聽
[648]
from the window and into the helicopter. The聽
gunman is kicked off before Roy threatens the聽聽
[652]
pilot with a gun, ordering him to take him to聽
Dynow as fast as possible. Once he arrives,聽聽
[657]
he takes the gunman's machinegun with him as he聽
sneaks inside the building and uses it to kill all聽聽
[661]
the assassins that are waiting together outside聽
the door. From the pile of bodies, he takes a gun聽聽
[666]
and Guan-yin's sword, and he shoots every guard on聽
his way until he makes it to Jemma's laboratory,聽聽
[670]
where she is being attacked by Brett. Roy does聽
not hesitate to kill both him and Ventor in聽聽
[675]
seconds before reuniting with Jemma, who asks him聽
how many tries it took him to get her. He lies聽聽
[680]
and says it was only one, but Jemma sees the聽
truth when he begins telling her all the things聽聽
[684]
he has learned about Joe after promising her he聽
is safe and no assassins are going after their聽聽
[688]
kid. Jemma explains that there is no stopping聽
the Spindle, only restarting it. She made the聽聽
[693]
missing mass inside the machine match Roy's聽
DNA specifically, so if he enters the Spindle,聽聽
[697]
the day should reset for the last time and聽
time would go back to normal, but she is not聽聽
[701]
one hundred percent sure of that - all this is聽
just a theory since this is the first time she聽聽
[705]
managed to make the machine work and it was all聽
done in a hurry to stop Ventor. If time resumes聽聽
[709]
and Roy dies, he will be gone for real, but he聽
thinks he has learned enough information to save聽聽
[714]
both Jemma and Joe without much trouble. So after聽
kissing Jemma, Roy enters the Osiris Spindle,聽聽
[719]
and waits for the machine to use him to聽
hopefully restart the day for the last time.
