[22]
Minecraft Championships is a monthly Minecraft tournament created by the Noxcrew and organized
[27]
by scott smajor.
[28]
It features 40 creators grouped into 10 teams of 4.
[31]
The goal is to earn as many coins as possible over 8 minigames, with each game moving forward
[36]
being more valuable than the last.
[38]
The top 2 teams after these 8 games commence move on to the final duel: Dodgebolt.
[43]
The team that wins that Dodgebolt match is then crowned the champion of MCC.
[48]
To decide which games are played and in what order, we look to the Decision Dome.
[53]
The Decision Dome is where players vote to choose what game they will play next.
[57]
At the start of the MCC, this 8-slice wheel will randomly choose a roster of games that
[61]
people will select from, with one minigame appearing on each slice.
[65]
Players are then given an egg, which they will throw onto the slice containing the game
[69]
that they want to play.
[71]
This egg spawns a chicken where it lands.
[73]
Once the time runs out, the game on the slice with the most chickens on it will be played.
[77]
Simple, right?
[79]
Well, not really.
[81]
The chickens can wander around, potentially messing up a team’s plans for a vote.
[85]
In addition to that, players are occasionally given power-ups to further add chaos.
[89]
Some power-ups set a slice of the wheel on fire, killing all the votes for a particular
[93]
game.
[94]
Other power-ups can summon a Mega Chicken, that’s worth 3 votes instead of 1.
[97]
There are even more twists that the Noxcrew have introduced in other MCCs, so the voting
[102]
phase stays fresh.
[104]
Using these twists to your advantage is crucial to maximizing your team’s coin earnings.
[113]
Survival Games It’s the classic battle royale that everyone
[118]
knows and loves!
[119]
At the start of the game, players search the map for chests filled with loot, food, and
[124]
weapons.
[125]
Players can enchant their weapons using the Enchanted Books and anvils scattered around
[128]
the map to empower themselves as they confront other teams.
[132]
Over time, the borders will shrink, forcing teams to fight each other to survive.
[135]
Coin Distribution and Strategy Players earn coins for kills and for every
[138]
player they outlast.
[140]
The last team standing also earns a hefty coin bonus.
[143]
This game tests your PvP skills, teamwork, and coordination.
[146]
May the last team standing win!
[148]
Battle Box In this PvP-based game, each team will battle
[152]
against all other teams in round-robin matches, with each round only lasting one minute and
[156]
each player only having one life per round.
[159]
The aim of the game is to capture the center wool.
[162]
This is done by using the shears given to each player to break the wool in the center
[166]
and place their own team’s colored wool in the space.
[168]
Once the 3x3 square is filled with your team’s wool, the round immediately ends.
[173]
At the start of each round, each player is given a basic loadout of weapons, but players
[177]
can specialize by choosing a bonus item.
[180]
Additional items are also scattered throughout the map, allowing lots of room for strategy!
[185]
The map changes each MCC, forcing players to switch up their strategy each time.
[190]
Killing the enemy team earns some coins, but more coins are given when the center area
[193]
is captured.
[195]
Thus, most strategies in Battle Box fall into two groups.
[198]
The more PvP-oriented teams aim to maximize coin output by killing the enemy team, then
[203]
capturing the objective.
[205]
The less PvP-inclined teams aim to finish the fight before it starts by rushing the
[209]
objective before the enemy can touch them.
[211]
Sky Battle A spin-off of the classic game of SkyWars,
[215]
players spawn on their own floating island above the perilous void.
[219]
The game is played over three rounds, with each round lasting only 4 minutes.
[223]
Players are armed with a chestplate, tools, weapons, as well as unlimited blocks, for
[227]
use in many different situations.
[230]
More items to strengthen their team are also located in neighboring islands.
[234]
Over time, the borders shrink from the sides and from the top, forcing teams to fight each
[237]
other to survive.
[246]
Players
[257]
earn many coins for kills and a small amount for every player they outlast.
[260]
The last team standing also earns a decent coin bonus.
[263]
The things that differentiate this from regular SkyWars are the unlimited blocks, the hollow
[268]
center, and the shrinking border, encouraging aggressive plays with the various projectiles
[273]
and explosives found around the map.
[274]
May the brave be rewarded!
[276]
Movement Games
[277]
Aside from just PVP games, MCC also features a number of movement based games that test
[278]
players’ ability to avoid obstacles and go as fast as they can.
[279]
Hole in the Wall
[280]
From the titular show, this movement-based game tests your reaction and quick-thinking
[283]
over three rounds!
[285]
At the start of the game, players spawn on a donut-shaped platform.
[288]
Walls will then spawn in from all four cardinal directions, and the players will have to dodge
[292]
these walls by squeezing through gaps in them or by jumping over them.
[295]
As the round progresses, the platform shrinks and the walls become faster and more challenging
[300]
to dodge, forcing players to think fast!
[302]
The last player standing wins.
[304]
Players earn coins every time another player falls off and they’re still standing.
[308]
If only one team’s members are still alive, or if the time runs out, all surviving players
[312]
earn a hefty bonus.
[313]
As more MCCs have been played, more and more players have gotten accustomed to their own
[317]
playstyles.
[318]
Some players call out which direction the walls come from for their fellow teammates.
[321]
Other players also use third person mode to get a wider field of view.(Insert singing
[325]
joke here) Really they do whatever works to help them survive!
[337]
Rocket Spleef
[338]
This movement-based game tests your elytra control!
[340]
At the start of each round players are equipped with a rocket launcher, an elytra and a firework.
[345]
They are then dropped down onto the map, which is normally a very large destructible structure.
[351]
Firing the rocket launcher destroys the nearby terrain and the explosion knocks players back,
[355]
sometimes off the structure and into the void.
[358]
Halfway through the game, your firework will be removed if you haven’t used it yet and
[361]
TNT will rain from the sky, eventually destroying whatever’s left of the map.
[365]
Players must use their elytra and rocket launcher to fly onto the remaining chunks to be the
[369]
last player standing!
[371]
Players earn coins for causing another player to fall off, and every time another player
[375]
dies and they’re still alive.
[377]
If only one team’s members are still alive before the time runs out, all surviving players
[381]
earn a hefty bonus.
[382]
This game tests how well players know explosion and elytra physics, so get ready to see lots
[388]
of wings circling around.
[390]
Parkour Warrior
[391]
Name inspired by the hit show Ninja Warrior, this minigame tasks players to get as far
[396]
as possible into a long and challenging parkour course in 10 minutes.
[400]
There are eight mini-courses with 3 challenges each, for a total of 24 parkour challenges.
[406]
As one would expect, the courses only get harder as you progress, using trickier jumps
[411]
that test if players know their Minecraft physics to the very pixel.
[415]
Players earn coins for every challenge they complete and a bonus if they complete a mini-course.
[418]
In addition, making it to the very end and completing the Final Tower earns a large reward
[424]
for the player.
[425]
Getting there is very difficult, and the courses have only gotten harder as the MCCs have gone
[429]
by.
[430]
Only the elite can finish the course within the time limit, and are rewarded immensely
[434]
for doing so.
[438]
Parkour Tag
[439]
This parkour game tests your quick thinking and teamwork!
[446]
Teams will face off against each other in a round robin format, similarly to Battle
[450]
Box.
[451]
At the start of each round, each team will elect a Hunter to face off against the three
[454]
Runners on the other team.
[456]
The goal of the Hunter is to tag the three Runners faster than the enemy team’s Hunter
[459]
can tag your team’s Runners.
[462]
A player can be a Hunter for only up to 3 times, so picking the right hunter to go up
[466]
against the right team is crucial.
[468]
The goal of the Runners is to survive for as long as possible.
[471]
The Runners are outlined, meaning that Hunters can see them through walls, but not the other
[475]
way around.
[476]
Hunters earn coins for each player they tag and how fast they tag them.
[479]
They also earn a bonus if they tag all 3 Runners faster than the enemy Hunter.
[484]
Runners earn coins every 10 seconds they survive, and if they last the full minute, the Runner
[488]
team earns a hefty bonus!
[490]
Since each team has players of varying parkour skill, deciding who to send out as Hunter
[494]
pretty much decides half of the round!
[497]
There’s no perfect place to hide for the Runners, so positioning and calling out the
[500]
Hunter’s position are the key to lasting the longest!
[507]
Ace Race
[508]
In this movement-based game, the aim is to be the fastest to complete a 3-lap course,
[512]
going through land, sea and sky!
[515]
There are several kinds of movement mechanics that the players will encounter as they race
[518]
through the course:
[520]
Speed Boosts Jump Pads
[524]
Mega Jump Pads Trident
[526]
Aqua Rings Wing Rings
[531]
Maximum coins are given to the player who finishes first.
[534]
Each subsequent finishing player receives 12.5 less coins than the player who finished
[539]
before them.
[540]
It’s a race to be the fastest, and familiarity with the course and mechanics are needed to
[544]
finish in the top spots!
[549]
To Get to the Other Side and Whack a Fan
[551]
This chaotic movement game tests a little bit of every kind of movement!
[556]
Players will have six rounds of races where they will have to get to the other side of
[559]
a map and then whack a fan to complete the round.
[562]
How they get to the other side varies with every map.
[565]
Sometimes you’ll have to use a boat, other times you’ll use a trident.
[568]
Sometimes you’ll need to bridge using blocks and sometimes you’ll just be running on
[571]
your own two feet.
[572]
Players are also able to hit each other leading to all sorts of extra chaos.
[576]
There’s a different gimmick every round, and you and your team will need to get creative
[579]
in order to reach the end first!
[581]
Coin Distribution and Strategy Players earn the most coins by being the first
[584]
player to whack a fan that round with each subsequent finisher earning two coins less.
[589]
In addition, the first full team to finish that round will earn an additional team bonus.
[593]
This team bonus means that everyone in your team will need to be fast.
[596]
Sometimes, teams have utilized team strategies to ensure that the entire team makes it to
[600]
the end together.
[601]
Creativity, adaptability and, most of all, speed are what’s needed to place high in
[607]
this minigame!
[615]
Big Sales at Build Mart This
[668]
team-oriented building game tests player communication, Minecraft knowledge, and resource gathering!
[675]
Players are presented with three small builds that they will need to replicate in their
[678]
own plots.
[679]
To gather the resources needed to complete the required builds, they’ll need to head
[683]
out to Build Mart, a large building filled to the brim with all the resources they need.
[701]
After gathering the resources needed and copying the build correctly, the team earns points
[705]
and a new build will spawn.
[706]
Once the time limit is reached, any partially completed build will also earn points for
[710]
the team.
[714]
Teams earn the most coins when they’re the first team to complete the build, so efficient
[717]
resource gathering and quick building is crucial.
[720]
To avoid exploiting the game by gathering everything at once, some build materials are
[722]
also randomized.
[723]
Since there are more players than builds available at a time, that extra player will be important
[726]
to boosting the team’s overall efficiency.
[729]
Some teams elect that player as a runner, being the one to gather any stray blocks that
[732]
would otherwise take too much time to collect.
[738]
Players have tried many other strategies to varying levels of success, and these strategies
[742]
will only evolve as more MCCs get played.
[743]
Bingo but Fast
[744]
In this team-oriented game, it’s a race to gather the items in the card as fast as
[745]
possible!
[746]
Points are received by being one of the first five teams to collect the items listed in
[747]
the map given to them.
[748]
Points are scored per item, and after those five crafts, the item is worth zero points.
[749]
To make everything faster (hence the name), various quality-of-life changes were introduced.
[750]
All players get permanent saturation.
[751]
They also have enchanted weapons and tools with sharpness and efficiency to make killing
[752]
mobs and mining faster.
[753]
Chopping down one log will cut down an entire tree, and ores immediately drop as ingots
[754]
when mined.
[755]
Players can also teleport to their fellow teammates (or to spawn) using the Teleportation
[756]
Pearl, allowing for quick coordination with their teammates.
[757]
This game rewards players that know Minecraft mechanics, crafting recipes, and item locations
[758]
very well.
[759]
Since teams score the most points by being the first to collect the item, efficient task
[760]
delegation and coordination is essential.
[761]
Dividing your team to focus on items that are common to different areas are what allow
[762]
your team to get the most points.
[763]
Sands of Time
[764]
This cryptic game tests a little bit of everything from players!
[765]
Teams will explore a large, randomly-generated dungeon to collect as many coins as they can
[766]
before escaping through the portal.
[767]
Their time in the dungeon is limited by a large sand timer in the center that dictates
[768]
the time they have left.
[769]
If the timer runs out before they leave, they lose all the coins they have on them and are
[770]
locked out, unless they have banked the coins they had for a 20% fee at the Sphinx.
[771]
Players can extend the timer by supplying it with sand blocks scattered around the dungeon.
[772]
As players explore the dungeon for coins and sand, they’ll come across many dangerous
[775]
rooms filled with traps, monsters and obstacles threatening to take their hard-earned belongings.
[781]
Players will also encounter colored vaults, full of coins, that require a matching key
[785]
to unlock its contents.
[786]
On death, players drop all their items and a percentage of their coins and are then entombed
[790]
at the center.
[791]
An entombed player can be freed at the cost of one sand.
[794]
Once players are satisfied with their adventure, they’ll need to head back to the center
[798]
and leave through the front portal to keep all of their hard-earned coins that they haven’t
[802]
banked at the Sphinx.
[803]
Once they leave through the front door, they can’t come back, so they need to make sure
[806]
that they’re fully done exploring the dungeon to the best of their ability.
[810]
To track the time efficiently, most teams elect a player to stay at the center to keep
[814]
track of the timer while the other three members explore the dungeon’s depths.
[818]
Teams do their best to keep track of keys and their matching vaults, since these vaults
[821]
house a hefty amount of coins.
[823]
Skill, communication and resource management are all key to make the most of a team’s
[827]
stay in the dungeon.
[828]
Dodgebolt
[829]
After 8 chaotic minigames, the top two teams go on to face each other in the final duel!
[834]
In this game, each player is equipped with a bow.
[836]
At the start of the round, an arrow will drop on each team’s side.
[839]
Much like regular dodgeball, arrows can only be fired from their side of the arena.
[846]
Each arrow is a one-hit kill and takes the player that was shot out of that round.
[851]
If an arrow misses a player, it will be available to pick up from where it landed.
[855]
If an arrow falls off the platform, it will respawn on whatever side it fell out of.
[863]
As arrows are fired and players are taken out, the arena shrinks, leaving players with
[867]
less room to dodge.
[869]
The first team to eliminate the other wins that round.
[872]
The first team to win 3 out of 5 rounds wins the championship!
[879]
As more and more MCCs have been played, the strategies for Dodgebolt have only evolved
[883]
over time.
[884]
There have been a fair share of sweeps and close matches.
[887]
Some teams trust their star player to land their shots and give all their arrows to that
[890]
one person.
[891]
Other teams share the arrows amongst each other in order to keep everyone in the loop.
[896]
No matter the strategy, taking out the strongest player each round is important to keeping
[901]
your team alive.
[902]
May the best team win!
[908]
