Hi guys, I'm Pip and welcome to my Sweet Digs.
[4]
If you haven't already subscribe below, and come on in.
[10]
I live in a maisonette in a 60s tower block
[13]
in Hoxton, which is in East London.
[16]
I live here with my boyfriend Dan.
[18]
He's actually from the area, and he owns the flat.
[22]
So, I pay 400 pounds towards the mortgage,
[25]
which is a bargain for an area and a flat like this.
[29]
So, over here we have my living room.
[31]
It houses quite a lot of my plants,
[33]
which you can see I've got a lot of them.
[35]
I got most of them from Columbia Road Flower Market
[37]
which is just across the road.
[39]
The flower market makes Hoxton unique.
[41]
On Sunday it's so buzzy.
[42]
It's like people from all parts of the world here,
[45]
and like really London flower traders,
[47]
and they shout all kinds of funny stuff.
[49]
I have a lot of mid-century furniture, it's one thing that I really love,
[52]
but we try to mix it in with like industrial pieces.
[55]
This piece of furniture is actually
[58]
probably the only piece of furniture that my boyfriend
[61]
had in this flat.
[62]
And I saw this and I thought,
[63]
"Okay, you know, he's quite cool."
[65]
"He has at least he has a piece of mid-century furniture."
[68]
Inside it, it like, houses all of the DVDs
[71]
and the TV stuff that's so ugly,
[73]
and you can just put it away and hide it.
[76]
This is the main focal point of our living room.
[80]
It's a book case that we actually built out of scaffolding planks.
[83]
And it houses all of my little pots and plants and trinkets.
[92]
We have this awesome balcony.
[95]
And look we've got Canary Wharf over there,
[98]
the Olympic stadium, the whole of East London.
[101]
It's just perfect on a day like today.
[108]
We have the kitchen over here with the big breakfast bar.
[112]
It's quite small but it's open plan which is nice.
[115]
We can all hang out in one big space.
[116]
There's a lot of good prep area
[118]
to do the cooking, and like lay everything out.
[121]
And obviously we do all the cooking over there on the stove.
[123]
I said stove that's so American, why did I say that?
[127]
[laughs]
[128]
I just cook whatever I fancy, whatever they have in the organic shop.
[132]
The thing is, is that we like to do it together.
[134]
Or I like to control what's happening, and Dan will help me.
[137]
*click clock*
[138]
We live in a flat that is across two floors, which I think is quite cool.
[142]
I think it's probably quite typical of a 60s like building.
[146]
So, follow me upstairs and I'll give you a little tour of up there.
[151]
Our bedroom.
[152]
It's yet to be decorated, it's actually my next task is to do this room.
[156]
Dan has given me the theme of Miami Vice.
[160]
So, millennial pinks, velvet headboard,
[163]
very boudoiry, lots of plants,
[166]
and we're gonna do a naughty gallery wall.
[169]
We have a great piece by the Notes To Strangers.
[172]
We've got one that's like,
[173]
"You can be a feminist but enjoy a spanking,"
[175]
which is quite fun.
[177]
One of my favorite things in this room is the record player.
[181]
it doesn't work,
[182]
and I think it's gonna cost a lot of money to get it fixed,
[185]
but it really goes with the mid-century like
[189]
teak vibe that I've got downstairs in the flat.
[191]
These are mine and Dan's childhood toys.
[194]
Ben Bunny and Foxy.
[197]
They have now become best friends.
[198]
He's my little thing that makes me feel safe at all times.
[202]
And over this side.
[204]
We have our office.
[208]
I can work from home here.
[210]
Dan makes jungle music, so this is all of his equipment.
[214]
This piece is something that I bought Dan for his birthday.
[220]
This is a jungle song.
[221]
I have no knowledge of jungle so, I don't know.
[225]
But he loves it and it makes him really happy, and yeah.
[228]
I love orange, it's the happiest color.
[230]
It just makes you feel so good.
[233]
Orange shirts, orange bags,
[235]
I love this orange cushion.
[238]
We bought this couch specifically because it was orange.
[241]
We have a toilet,
[243]
and then this is the bathroom.
[246]
So, they're separated.
[247]
The bathroom is actually the only room in the house that
[250]
I really don't like.
[252]
It's really small, there's no bath, there's no natural light.
[256]
Eventually we'll probably do it up and knock the wall through,
[260]
but right now there's nothing going on
[262]
so let's not spend any more time in here
[264]
and let's go and check out one of the other rooms.
[266]
We've got our walk-in wardrobe.
[269]
The most expensive thing that we have in the house is the wardrobe.
[272]
I have everything hung on velvet hangers.
[275]
because you get more clothes in that way.
[277]
But it does manage to house everything.
[279]
On this side we have Dan's trainer collection.
[282]
He has 200 pairs.
[284]
He loves them, he wears a different pair every day.
[286]
I take all the photos for his Instagram.
[289]
His trainer collection definitely dictated
[292]
how the room was gonna be designed.
[295]
So, we decided to go for a Ikea bookcase
[299]
so that everything could be stacked and quite neat.
[302]
I've actually put Dan on a one-in-one-out basis on the shoes.
[307]
Whether he will stick to that we will find out.
[309]
It's kinda the same with me and clothes.
[311]
I collect dagger collar shirts,
[313]
so they're a specific shirt from the 1970s
[317]
and they have really big pointed collars.
[319]
I don't even look at the design the color the size,
[322]
I look specifically at the collar
[324]
and then I'll see if it fits me.
[326]
I have this one.
[327]
I think this one has a like Gucci vibe to it.
[330]
I think this is the biggest collar I have.
[333]
This is actually a smaller one.
[335]
I got a green one.
[337]
Yeah.
[337]
I've lived in this flat for about a year.
[341]
Me and my partner have been together for a year and a half,
[343]
and quite quickly after we got together I moved in.
[347]
Hoxton's great, there is an overground train very close.
[351]
There's lots of really cool cafe's and coffee shops.
[354]
People are really nice and friendly, and there's lots of cool shops.
[357]
We're right close to Shoreditch, so
[359]
lots of bars and stuff for a night out.
[361]
Hoxton is like one of those places where there's
[363]
people that have lived here forever,
[365]
like my boyfriend Dan,
[366]
or there's people from all over the world.
[369]
It's just great.
[370]
I think it's really important
[372]
to have a place where you can come and kinda
[376]
switch off from your day job,
[378]
but I'm always so busy so it's really nice to come here
[381]
and chill out and relax
[383]
at the end of the day, and just switch off from all of that.
