glassdoor vs indeed in this video i'm going  to look at comparisons for glassdoor vs indeed  

i'll compare pros and cons both are very well  known websites and have many of the same uses  

and functions but which is best for job seekers  we'll look at which is best for job searching  

interview research such as company reviews and  salary checker services or salary comparisons  

i go a lot deeper into the topic of glassdoor  salaries in another video where i cover important  

facts for job seekers and alternative places  that i recommend to find good salary information  

so i'll link that in the description below for  you first up is job searching for job searches  

i recommend indeed over glassdoor and i'll show  you why so let's say that we were looking for as  

an example a marketing assistant and we'll pop  in the location as london and click find jobs  

and we do the same thing on glassdoor so we'll  also search for marketing assistant in london

so there's a number of different reasons that i'll  go over with you so the first is the filters so  

indeed has a lot more relevant filters than  glassdoor on glass door you have only five  

and on indeed there's about eight and some  of the filters that glassdoor doesn't have  

are filters like salary estimate which is really  important if you're looking for a job a lot of  

job seekers only want to consider jobs that are  within a certain salary range which is perfectly  

understandable so if you say you put in a salary  estimate of 2022k you can see there's 125 jobs and  

when you update it it brings it down to 77. so  you are only looking at jobs within the salary  

range that you need and many people have bills to  pay they have to go for a minimum salary so this  

is is a huge plus for indeed so glassdoor doesn't  have this as one of the filters that i can see so  

one of the other filters are remote which i think  is new due to covid so they reference covid here  

and this is absolutely key because with kovid  some roles are temporarily remote and some are  

completely remote and it really helps to know this  because one of the lockdown rules is to work from  

home if you can which means that there are some  jobs where people are still going into the office  

or they're still going into their workspace  because their job needs to be done from that  

workspace so this just cuts down all of that and  you're only looking at roles that are relevant to  

working from home not working from home or  temporarily working from home or temporarily  

remote due to covid and i don't see that filter  on glass door so that's a huge another huge plus  

for indeed one of the other filters that i can't  see on glass door is job category which is speaks  

for itself these are the sub categories that  you can search under this filter on indeed  

now one thing i would say about glassdoor is that  they do have this more option and under this they  

have things like work from home only but some of  the sub filters under remote working on indeed  

are not here and i don't see some of the other  filters that i've mentioned under this drop  

down and the second reason i recommend indeed  over glass store is to do with the relevance  

of search results so if we look at the search  results for marketing assistant under glassdoor  

we can see that there are 500 jobs in  the search results whereas on indeed  

so even if we remove the filters here there's  125 jobs now it might seem that there are more  

jobs available on glassdoor and therefore  it would be better for a job search but  

when you look down at the search results let's  say that we go down to say page five like all of  

these seem like marketing assistant roles pretty  relevant but if we go down to page five the roles  

start to become very irrelevant so it's uh so  we've got things like marketing manager we've got  

things like hr assistant um advertising operations  manager uh you know post-production assistant  

there's so many roles that are not relevant to the  search and it actually gets less and less as you  

go further down into the search results so i think  that for me is you know there may be 500 jobs but  

if they're not what you're looking for then it's  not that useful i find that the hyper-focused  

search results are more useful when you're looking  for a specific type of job whereas if we go over  

to indeed it's a lot more hyper relevant so the  majority of the roles are more hyper focused to  

your marketing assistant role so there's a few  in there that might not be but majority of them  

are marketing assistant or some variation of  marketing assistant and if you go down to page  

five um again you can see marketing assistant or  marketing internship they're all very still very  

relevant so even though there are less roles on  indeed actually i find that the relevance of them  

is a lot higher and that's one of the other  reasons that i recommend indeed over glassdoor  

and i've tried this with lots of different roles  over different industries to test the relevance  

and i get the same results so although  glassdoor is a brilliant tool to find work  

if you want search results that are hyper relevant  i would recommend indeed if you're getting value  

from this so far do click like so this video can  be shown to more people that need help with these  

comparisons the second area is company reviews  which can be vital for interview research this  

can be great if you have an interview coming up or  you just want to do some digging on a company that  

you are thinking of working for in future so we'll  look at which site is best for this so first we'll  

just look at indeed so for indeed so we'll go for  four seasons healthcare click on that so we can  

see that there's 42 reviews 11 salaries and five  questions and under the five questions you've got  

only a couple of them have interview answers so  just looking at this i can see immediately that  

these are the sub criteria so work life balance  pay and benefits job security management and  

culture which is quite similar to glassdoor but  one of the things i noticed immediately is that  

there are not that many reviews so in comparison  if we look at the same company on glassdoor  

you can immediately see that there are almost 300  reviews jobs salaries interviews and if you click  

on the interviews then you can see that you have  quite a lot of detailed reviews where people are  

talking about their experiences giving questions  and answers things that would be a lot more useful  

in terms of company research so one of the things  to be aware of with reviews is that this is one  

of glassdoor flagship services so they are  particularly brilliant for company reviews  

and so i would expect that they would be stronger  in this area picking almost any company at random  

i would expect that they would come out on top  so i for that reason i would strongly recommend  

glassdoor over indeed for company reviews i  do have a video exploring this in more detail  

because as glassdoor has grown in popularity there  have been more questions about the authenticity  

of reviews so i have explored this in more  detail in another video which i will link in  

the description below for you but particularly  for company research and company reviews  

i would recommend glassdoor the third area is  salaries or salary comparisons so here we're going  

to look at salary so whether you are negotiating  a salary and you want to know what minimum you  

should ask for whether you're changing professions  maybe you're going back out into the job market  

and you just want to see what the average  salary is in your industry or profession salary  

comparisons are key so we'll start with indeed  we go to the fine salary on indeed and we'll  

try for support worker so let's type in support  worker and let's pop in the location as london  

and we will also so the average base salary  is 10 pounds 74 an hour let's do it per year  

so it's about 25k and so we'll do the same  thing on glassdoor to see what the results are

21k so it's not worlds apart it is a little  bit different but these estimates are made up  

by people submitting their salary so it really  depends on what the what the makeup is of the  

people that are submitting their salaries  i also go over this in more detail in my  

video on glassdoor salaries which i'll link  in the description below it just explains why  

some salaries may appear low in some cases and  some of the different factors that can affect  

the information relating to this so one of the  things i noticed is that the this is made up of  

1900 people that have submitted their salaries  here and on glassdoor we've got 353 salaries  

so there's a lot more people that have submitted  their salary to indeed but what i would say is  

it depends on what you're looking for so there are  some other factors that go into glassdoor salaries  

and depending on what you're looking for either of  these sites can work quite well in terms of salary  

data in the video that i mentioned earlier i also  do discuss alternative websites that i recommend  

to get good data on salaries because there are  more than just these two places to find salaries  

online so i go into more detail on that as well  but in terms of salaries for these two websites  

i actually think that even though  more salaries are submitted to  

indeed it doesn't necessarily make it  the most accurate source of information  

so i would say that both of these are pretty good  to use to get an average on salary data and i do  

think it's always good to look at at least three  different places because you'll have different  

groups submitting their salary which make up the  final figure so either of these sites work quite
