[12]
at the bottom my name is Travis Sickle CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER

[16]
So today
[25]
I'm talking about married filing jointly
[27]
with one job and this is a question that
[29]
I got does it make a difference if we
[32]
have one job or two jobs or more does it
[36]
matter
[36]
is a w-4 going to change well on your
[39]
particular w-4 it will change but
[42]
overall you're gonna see the tax
[43]
liability is gonna be exactly the same
[45]
so let's dive in I'll run some examples
[47]
and we can see how that looks so I'm
[50]
gonna pull it up on the screen here
[51]
we're gonna look at the w-4 app it's the
[53]
online version don't worry if you have
[56]
the paper version we can use that just
[59]
as well once we get our answer with the
[61]
online version I'm gonna show you how to
[63]
do it so here we go okay so I'm going to
[65]
jump right into the w-4 online version
[68]
don't worry we'll be able to put it on
[70]
the paper version so we're gonna start
[72]
with married filing jointly no one else
[75]
can claim us as the dependent click
[77]
continue so this is the page right here
[80]
where we would enter in multiple jobs
[83]
had we had multiple jobs right here
[86]
click on it just like whatever number
[88]
you want but today we're gonna show what
[90]
it looks like if we have married filing
[92]
jointly one job now if you held the job
[95]
previously check it off or if you have
[98]
401k check it off but for this video I'm
[101]
just gonna show you what the difference
[102]
is to have multiple jobs click continue
[104]
so let's assume that the job that we
[107]
have earns $50,000
[113]
and we got no bonuses we withheld
[116]
nothing zero and then put the pay
[119]
frequency if you don't know it ask your
[121]
employer they'll be able to tell you
[122]
what it is
[124]
click continue these are the deductions
[127]
now standard deductions have increased
[130]
so there are 24,000 so unless you have
[133]
more than 24,000 dollars of write-offs
[135]
then you just take the standard here we
[139]
have two thousand seven hundred and
[141]
forty two dollars in total tax liability
[144]
now this is where if you look here it
[146]
says enter zero on line five that's
[149]
where you're gonna go to the paper
[150]
version and look at the bottom line five
[152]
enter the zero put all your other basic
[155]
information just on that little strip
[157]
right at the bottom and give that to
[159]
your employer you can print this out if
[161]
you want to keep it for your records so
[163]
you know it came to those numbers but
[164]
that's all you need to do it's super
[166]
simple now let's take a look if we had
[169]
multiple jobs let's see what that
[170]
difference looks like so it's two
[172]
thousand seven hundred and forty tails
[174]
remember that and let's go back to here
[178]
and let's say that was over two jobs
[180]
click continue and for each of these
[184]
jobs I'm gonna split up the pay so it's
[188]
gonna total that the fifty thousand
[190]
dollars and we'll put all the same other
[194]
same numbers in here too although the
[198]
bonuses in the withholdings don't
[200]
actually change the total tax liability
[204]
for the year it just changes how much is
[207]
it with helped or pay check click
[209]
continue click continue same number two
[213]
thousand seven hundred and forty two
[214]
only difference is now it's having you
[217]
split up your allowances between two
[220]
paychecks or your withholdings with two
[223]
paychecks so job one is gonna have to
[225]
put zero but also an additional 120 job
[228]
to you same thing one hundred and twenty
[230]
dollars per paycheck so it's exactly the
[235]
same it's two thousand seven hundred and
[237]
forty two dollars so it doesn't matter
[238]
how many jobs you have it matters the
[241]
amount of people in your household how
[243]
many dependents and how much earning
[246]
so that's what's really important about
[247]
making these adjustments on the w-4 if
