Secured Credit Cards With Rewards - US Bank Secured Cards - YouTube
Channel: CreditFast
[0]
last week i did a video talking about
[2]
five secured cards that earn rewards
[5]
great news i've got three more secured
[8]
cards that will earn you rewards that
[10]
are issued by u.s bank
[13]
and i do recommend that you watch both
[15]
videos because
[17]
by doing that you're going to have eight
[19]
solid options to help you build your
[22]
credit with a secured credit card that's
[24]
going to earn you rewards have no annual
[27]
fee and these cards all eight
[30]
will graduate in time
[34]
when viewers leave comments i do my best
[37]
to read them and if i can i do
[39]
comment back
[41]
and
[42]
this week i came across a really good
[44]
comment from jeremy moore that inspired
[47]
this video
[49]
after i did my video on five secured
[52]
cards with rewards jeremy alerted me to
[55]
two u.s bank secured credit cards that
[57]
just came out on october 10 5th actually
[61]
and i made the video on october 10th so
[63]
that's why i never came across
[65]
those secured cards but jeremy knew
[68]
about them and he alerted me to that and
[71]
then i thought this is a perfect time to
[74]
do a quick
[75]
follow-up video
[77]
from last week to give you a few extra
[80]
secured cards to know about
[82]
and
[83]
they just came out and in my research i
[86]
found another u.s bank secured credit
[89]
card that earns rewards so i'm going to
[91]
be talking about that one too that
[93]
particular card cannot be found on the
[95]
u.s bank website but i'll tell you where
[98]
you can find it once i get to that point
[100]
in the video
[102]
so what jeremy told me was that through
[105]
his own experience he believes that
[107]
having a u.s bank account
[109]
can help you get approved
[112]
and i spoke to a banker directly at us
[115]
bank so i know the answer on whether it
[117]
helps or not and i'll go into that later
[119]
in this video
[122]
so like i said i did call us bank
[125]
directly i called a branch and spoke to
[127]
a banker
[128]
i had questions and i wanted to clear it
[131]
up so i can make a better video for you
[135]
by the end i hope you learned so much
[138]
about these u.s bank secured credit
[140]
cards that you can't help but hit that
[142]
like button
[145]
i did spend more time than i usually do
[147]
researching for a video
[149]
and a lot of the information i found on
[152]
the us bank secured card the one that
[155]
didn't have rewards
[157]
um the information was older
[159]
and there was
[161]
videos like the one from how to build
[164]
credit tv
[165]
keep in mind this video came out in 2018
[168]
and back at that time
[171]
the u.s bank secured card had an annual
[173]
fee
[175]
back then they had an annual fee of 29
[179]
i want to clear up
[181]
that
[182]
all
[183]
u.s bank secured credit cards now have
[185]
no annual fees
[187]
so if you were thinking about that in
[189]
the past and that was what was holding
[191]
you back
[192]
just know that every card i'm talking
[194]
about today has no annual fee
[198]
the first card i'll be talking about is
[200]
the u.s bank altitude go
[203]
visa secured card
[206]
this card will earn you 4x on dining and
[208]
takeout besides that you get 2x rewards
[211]
on your grocery store gas station and
[213]
streaming services purchases
[216]
then you earn 1x on everything else
[219]
what's interesting about the secured
[221]
reward card that is not offered by any
[223]
other of the reward secured cards that i
[226]
talk about is that it offers a
[230]
credit
[231]
a 15 streaming credit for annual
[234]
streaming service purchases like netflix
[236]
and spotify
[238]
so that's a great added bonus for a
[241]
secured credit card with no annual fee
[245]
so you're probably asking what can i use
[248]
my reward points for well i'm glad you
[250]
asked good questions
[252]
because you can choose reward options
[255]
like travel merchandise cash back and
[257]
gift cards or redeem points instantly
[261]
for nearly any purchase with real-time
[263]
rewards
[265]
as long as you keep your account open
[268]
and in good standing your rewards will
[270]
not expire
[275]
so now i will be talking about the u.s
[278]
bank cash plus visa secured card
[282]
with this one you earn five percent cash
[284]
back on eligible purchases each quarter
[286]
in two categories you choose
[289]
earn two percent cash back on eligible
[292]
purchases in your choice of one everyday
[295]
category
[296]
such as gas stations grocery stores and
[299]
restaurants
[301]
unlike the u.s bank altitude go visa
[304]
card
[305]
cash rewards will expire at the end of
[308]
the calendar month 36 months after the
[312]
billing cycle in which they were earned
[315]
so you really want to be careful that
[318]
you don't let these rewards expire so
[321]
these do
[322]
expire for this secured card while the
[326]
other one does not so keep that in mind
[330]
okay so the next card is a branded card
[334]
and
[335]
it is a name brand that you have heard
[337]
of it's called the hd visa secured card
[342]
and hd stands for harley davidson
[346]
to make this simple you basically earn
[349]
1x on your purchases that you can redeem
[352]
for harley merchandise and gear like i
[355]
said in the beginning of this video you
[357]
cannot apply for the secured card on the
[359]
u.s bank website
[361]
if you type this address
[363]
here
[364]
you can reach the application page and
[366]
learn more about this offer they even
[369]
have a calculator you can use to see how
[371]
much you can potentially earn in rewards
[374]
so even though this u.s bank secured
[376]
card is a little different than the
[377]
others your account is still up for
[380]
review in about 12 months on whether it
[383]
can reach unsecured status
[387]
so now it's time for the pros and cons
[388]
list when i spoke with a banker he told
[391]
me that
[393]
this card is really good for people with
[395]
no credit some established credit or if
[399]
you are a
[400]
immigrant new to this country with a
[402]
social security number
[405]
these are people that often time times
[407]
get approved but he also said that if
[410]
your
[410]
your
[411]
credit is not so good you're still you
[414]
should have a good chance of getting
[416]
approved however if you have a really
[419]
difficult time right now with your
[421]
credit score
[423]
you can't apply but you do run the risk
[426]
that you can be denied for this offer
[428]
and like i said before there's two
[430]
really good cards that can help you get
[433]
credit
[435]
if you have really bad credit i always
[438]
put it on the home page of my website
[441]
and
[442]
if you use those links that does help my
[444]
channel and i i thank you for that
[447]
but
[447]
regardless whether you want to use them
[449]
or not they are the open sky visa and a
[452]
self-credit builder alone
[455]
those two offers really do
[458]
approve
[460]
the vast majority of people there's very
[463]
few cases where they don't and it's
[464]
usually maybe an application is not
[467]
completely correct
[468]
but if you have really bad credit and
[470]
you've tried the different secured cards
[472]
i've been talking about in these two
[474]
videos without a success you can apply
[476]
for those two offers
[478]
and you have a very very good chance of
[481]
getting approved for those so keep that
[483]
in mind open sky visa or self credit
[486]
builder loans
[488]
a pro is that you can either apply
[491]
online or you can go inside a branch and
[494]
speak with a banker directly they can
[495]
help you
[496]
apply
[498]
and if you're going to go into a branch
[500]
make sure you have your
[503]
routing number and account number either
[505]
to a u.s bank account or it doesn't have
[508]
to be it could be from another bank and
[510]
they can assist you in applying
[512]
and when you're making a payment you can
[515]
make that at a branch or even at an atm
[519]
so they're really helping with the
[521]
convenience factor if you don't want to
[523]
make your payments online if you have a
[524]
bank branch near you you can go inside
[527]
and take care of it
[528]
now the last one i'm
[531]
leaving at the end because it could be
[533]
either considered a pro or con depending
[536]
on how you feel
[537]
but
[538]
this card these cards will graduate but
[541]
generally it'll take about a year for
[544]
that to happen and if you watch my other
[547]
video my first video that i have linked
[549]
in the description
[550]
you'll see that there are cards that i'm
[552]
talking about that graduate a lot faster
[556]
like as short as six months
[559]
so if times an issue for you
[562]
then i would look into some of those
[564]
cards i talked about in the other video
[567]
so the first thing that i consider a con
[569]
and it's it's not even a bad con is that
[572]
the security deposit is three 300 which
[576]
is not necessarily bad because back in
[578]
the day minimum deposits generally were
[581]
at least 500 so this is still pretty low
[583]
at 300 but in my other videos i had
[586]
cards that only required
[589]
200 security deposits and one only
[592]
required a hundred dollars so if
[596]
a security deposit how much you put down
[598]
is a factor and you want the lowest
[600]
possible you'll need to check out the
[602]
other video video but i think 300 is not
[605]
bad
[606]
so it's up to you to make that decision
[610]
so the second con for us bank secured
[613]
cards is that these cards don't have
[616]
pre-qualification applications so when
[618]
you apply when you choose to go through
[620]
the full application process
[623]
if your credit score is not high enough
[625]
you will get denied with that hard
[627]
credit inquiry on your reports it's fine
[630]
if you get approved good payment history
[633]
can offset
[634]
your
[635]
credit score going down a few points but
[638]
if you get denied you're going to have
[640]
no secured card
[642]
and you're going to have a few points
[644]
lower in your credit score so be mindful
[647]
of that
[650]
so if you remember in jeremy's comment
[652]
he said that he believes that ultimately
[655]
the reason he got approved for a u.s
[657]
bank secured card was because he opened
[660]
a bank account and held it for one month
[663]
before he applied
[665]
so i had the opportunity this week to
[667]
ask a banker whether that does
[670]
factor into approvals and the answer is
[676]
it does
[678]
but only slightly
[680]
he wanted to stress that it is a factor
[683]
but other factors weigh in more heavily
[687]
for an approval so basically opening an
[690]
account will put you
[693]
over the edge to the approval side if
[696]
you have
[697]
um
[698]
okay
[699]
like not so bad credit this could be the
[703]
little boost you need to get you an
[705]
approval
[706]
but generally speaking
[709]
i wouldn't recommend opening a u.s bank
[711]
account unless you plan
[714]
to use it because you might end up
[718]
having an a useless account
[720]
just used for an application
[723]
or you can open an account now
[726]
and then get one of those credit
[728]
rebuilding offers i talked about earlier
[731]
wait about six months so you're boosting
[733]
your credit score a little bit more so
[735]
you're going to have a higher credit
[736]
score and you're also going to have a
[739]
u.s bank account try applying then and
[742]
you'll probably have a lot better chance
[744]
of getting approved
[746]
so there are people right now that have
[748]
the u.s bank secured card without the
[751]
rewards and if you're one of those
[753]
people like jeremy i would suggest
[755]
trying to do a product change even when
[758]
it's secured i don't know if you can
[761]
but i would try and if you are able to
[763]
do that or not please leave a comment
[766]
and let everybody know
[768]
if they're able to do that
[770]
otherwise
[771]
typically when a card graduates to
[773]
unsecured many
[775]
credit card companies allow you to do a
[777]
product change i'm letting you know that
[779]
because there are people
[781]
that either
[783]
keep the card using it without rewards
[785]
or cancel it and reapply for a rewards
[788]
card through the same bank i'm telling
[790]
you
[791]
many times you don't have to do that you
[793]
can do a product change and keep the
[795]
same account number on your credit file
[799]
so a question you may have is how does
[801]
the security deposit actually work
[805]
so the answer to that is your refundable
[808]
deposit is held in a secured u.s bank
[811]
savings account the savings account is
[813]
fdic insured
[815]
earns interest and won't be touched as
[818]
long as your account remains open
[821]
and in good standing
[824]
also this is some information i received
[827]
when i spoke to the banker and with
[830]
on-time payment history you have the
[832]
chance of receiving an invitation to
[834]
convert and have your u.s bank secured
[836]
card graduate to unsecured in about a
[839]
year i was told by the banker once your
[841]
account graduates in about two billing
[843]
cycles after your money gets returned
[846]
and the savings account gets cancelled
[850]
one thing i don't like is that they
[852]
close the savings account rather than
[854]
allowing the customer to decide whether
[856]
they want to close it or have it
[859]
remained open but this could have been
[861]
based on regulation and they need to
[864]
close that account
[867]
one reason i'm glad i talked to a banker
[869]
from u.s bank is that he told me that if
[872]
you don't get an invitation offer to
[874]
upgrade your account to unsecured you
[877]
can actually call up and request that
[881]
i
[882]
am going to give a little tip here
[884]
because i think what you should do is
[886]
ask if they're going to do a hard credit
[887]
inquiry when they look into your account
[890]
usually banks these days do not
[893]
but some still do and they may not tell
[895]
you so you want to ask so you know where
[898]
you stand and then you can make a
[899]
decision or
[901]
yes or no if you want to go forward
[904]
okay so i told you about these three us
[906]
bank secured cards that are earning
[908]
rewards these rewards are pretty
[910]
impressive so the question i have now to
[913]
you is what do you think
[915]
about these cards do you think they're
[917]
better than the discover it secured card
[919]
that we're so familiar with the one that
[922]
earns two percent cash back at gas
[925]
stations and grocery stores and one
[927]
percent on everything else what do you
[929]
think about these these offers i'm
[931]
talking about today are they better than
[933]
the discover it secured card let us know
[936]
in the comment section
[939]
hit that like button if my guide to us
[941]
bank secured credit cards with rewards
[944]
was helpful to you check out the other
[946]
video i did for five more secured cards
[949]
with rewards
[951]
and
[953]
hit that subscribe button if you want to
[955]
see me next time take care
