How much Money do Day Traders make? - YouTube
Channel: Humbled Trader
[0]
can you really make money day trading
[2]
and how much money do day traders make
[5]
if you're new to trading or just been
[7]
contemplating on getting into day
[9]
trading
[9]
you must have wondered can you really
[12]
make money from this career
[14]
this seems like gambling is day trading
[17]
real
[17]
or just a scam we see many people on
[21]
social media
[22]
posting big profits and very rarely any
[25]
losses
[26]
all these seems extremely surreal maybe
[29]
sometimes
[30]
overly glorified but risky at the same
[33]
time
[33]
and that's why people with their newly
[36]
received
[36]
stimulus checks are pouring them into
[39]
the market
[40]
signed up for robinhood and ready to
[42]
turn that one thousand dollars
[44]
into a million in six months in this
[47]
video we're gonna be talking about
[49]
the topic of day trading profits and
[52]
losses known as p l's specifically
[55]
why seeing regular p l's and posting
[58]
them
[59]
could be a positive or a negative thing
[62]
and finally we're gonna be answering the
[64]
question of
[65]
do i really make money day trading
[69]
i'm also going to be sharing some
[70]
personal stories
[72]
from my six years now going into seven
[74]
years
[75]
of day trading journey so let's get
[77]
comfortable sit back
[79]
get your popcorn ready and make sure no
[81]
one is touching a trading account
[84]
and most importantly remember to destroy
[87]
that like button
[88]
first of all let's answer the number one
[90]
question most people have
[92]
regarding day trading is this career
[94]
real
[95]
or is it a scam is they trading just
[98]
gambling
[99]
the short and sweet answer is it's a
[102]
real
[102]
and very profitable career for only
[105]
about
[106]
5 to 10 of the people let's make it
[109]
really clear
[110]
i'm certainly not saying everyone should
[113]
day trade
[114]
no it's the opposite i think most people
[117]
shouldn't day trade
[118]
because rather than treating it as a
[120]
serious business
[121]
and a career most people are lazy and
[124]
they treat it as a get rich quick scheme
[127]
like gambling like my brother said in my
[129]
live trading with family video
[132]
day trading is a risky career and most
[135]
people should stay away from it
[137]
now let's talk about wins and losses in
[140]
day trading
[141]
and yes i did say wins and losses
[144]
because believe it or not everyone loses
[147]
in day trading
[148]
it's just that less people are willing
[150]
to share their losses
[152]
i mean it's the same reason everyone
[154]
wants to post images with lamborghinis
[157]
why would anyone want to be seen with a
[159]
2003 corolla
[161]
or show up on youtube videos with barely
[164]
any makeup right
[165]
now back to the topic of how much money
[168]
do day traders make
[169]
well the answer to that question is it
[171]
depends
[172]
we are traders who make hundred today
[175]
thousands a day
[176]
and even sometimes who make five six and
[179]
even seven figures
[180]
a day now before you get overly excited
[184]
oh my god you can make that much money
[186]
day trading i need to go quit my job now
[188]
to day trade
[190]
please listen to the full story here
[192]
first
[193]
to make money in day trading you have to
[195]
be comfortable
[196]
with losing first losing money in order
[199]
to make profit
[201]
is a concept that's very unique to this
[204]
day trading business
[205]
day trading is probably the only job
[208]
where you can show up at your office
[210]
computer and work very
[212]
hard and give it all and at the end of
[214]
the day
[215]
after eight hours you actually lose
[218]
money
[218]
i remember when i used to have a
[220]
conventional nine to five job
[223]
nine to five why am i kidding it's more
[224]
like a 9-7
[226]
job but whether i did a good job at the
[229]
office
[229]
was slacked off playing ping-pong all
[231]
day
[232]
i'm guaranteed the paycheck at the end
[234]
of the day
[235]
i'm never at the risk of losing money
[238]
just the risk of losing my soul
[240]
when you see people post profit
[242]
screenshots on social media
[244]
it's important to know that while both
[247]
you and i
[248]
may want the same profits we probably
[251]
don't have the same kind of risk
[253]
tolerance
[254]
it takes money to make money in this
[256]
business
[257]
day trading is a career that requires
[259]
you to leverage your capital
[261]
risk losing it in order to come out
[264]
ahead
[265]
to make that first 100 dollars you may
[268]
have to risk
[269]
20 to 50 dollars to make those thousands
[272]
you may have to risk 500 and to make
[275]
that five
[276]
figures of ten thousand dollars you
[278]
might have to risk
[279]
four to five thousand dollars and that
[282]
brings us to the next point
[284]
everyone's wins and losses are all
[286]
relative
[287]
in day trading if you're making just a
[289]
hundred dollar a day consistently
[292]
that's amazing then one day you have a
[294]
500
[295]
profit that's considered a big win
[298]
relative to your account size and your
[300]
experience
[301]
but for somebody who is using 10 times
[304]
100 times your size
[306]
and making couple thousands per day
[309]
their big win
[310]
would maybe be twenty or thirty thousand
[312]
dollars
[313]
and again at the same time this small
[315]
loss might be two thousand dollars
[318]
and the big loss will probably be in the
[320]
five figures
[321]
the point i'm trying to make is don't
[323]
compare your chapter 1
[325]
to someone else's chapter 20. everyone's
[328]
wins and losses
[330]
are all relative to their share sizes if
[332]
you see someone else's big wins today
[335]
and decide to double or quadruple your
[337]
size in order to make the same profits
[340]
tomorrow
[341]
that's probably not going to end so well
[344]
this was actually a huge mistake that
[347]
hits
[348]
very closely to home over here around
[351]
three to four years
[352]
ago i was already profitable and making
[354]
consistent
[355]
gains from day trading i was on a win
[358]
streak
[358]
momentum was picking up in my
[360]
performance in my trading account
[362]
and i finally felt like i had figured
[365]
out myself
[366]
and all my setups really well then i
[368]
started seeing other traders who are
[370]
making
[370]
two three times and even sometimes 10
[373]
times
[374]
bigger profits than i am and many times
[377]
we're trading the same tickers
[379]
at first the effect wasn't clear to me
[382]
but if you start seeing them on a daily
[384]
basis
[385]
and over a long period of time of weeks
[388]
or months
[389]
it would start to have some
[390]
psychological effect on you
[392]
at least it did on me so guess what one
[395]
day after a very nice win
[397]
i see another traders who have been
[399]
trading for 20
[400]
30 years posted p l that's ten times
[404]
bigger than mine
[405]
on the same ticker i was like what the
[408]
flying [聽__聽]
[410]
i traded the same stock the same price
[412]
action
[413]
i'm smart i'm a profitable trader i
[415]
couldn't make the same profit as him
[417]
but instead i packed out i'm a loser
[420]
here being proud of my
[421]
five hundred dollars when i could have
[423]
made ten thousand or more
[425]
so the next day i decided to add a zero
[428]
to all of my position sizes and just
[431]
like i mentioned earlier
[433]
to make a thousand you have to be
[435]
comfortable risking 500
[437]
to make a hundred thousand you have to
[439]
be comfortable risking
[440]
20 or 50 or even more well i wanted to
[444]
make 10 times my daily consistent profit
[447]
i wasn't prepared mentally and
[449]
emotionally
[451]
to take 10 times the risk and when you
[453]
start becoming nervous and sweating over
[456]
every single red tick on the stock that
[459]
leads to some very
[460]
emotional trading decisions so you
[463]
probably
[464]
know where that story is leading to i
[466]
ended the day
[467]
with more than 10 times my normal
[470]
predetermined loss
[472]
per day and that big loss wiped out
[475]
over 60 percent of my account i
[478]
essentially blew
[478]
up even though that story was not my
[481]
biggest loss
[482]
ever it was the biggest loss relative to
[485]
my account
[486]
this is an experience i still hold very
[489]
closely to my heart
[491]
and i have a feeling many of you guys
[493]
probably feel the same way
[495]
and have experienced the same emotions
[498]
and this is the reason i choose
[501]
not to post regular p l i'm not saying
[504]
it's wrong to post profits or losses
[507]
it's the same as sharing your tax
[509]
returns or personal information online
[512]
whether you decide to share your trading
[513]
performance or not
[515]
it's nobody's decision but your own so
[518]
let's talk about the benefits of posting
[520]
p
[520]
ls some people may find that it keeps
[523]
them accountable
[524]
by sharing it to an online social
[526]
platforms
[527]
maybe it helps you connect with other
[529]
traders and grow a following
[531]
and for many traders who have day
[533]
trading education programs
[535]
big profits would be a great marketing
[538]
tool
[539]
that would most likely lead to more
[541]
sales and revenue
[542]
and all these are fair reasons for
[545]
posting your trading profits
[547]
like i said it's a personal decision and
[550]
everyone has to weigh the pros and cons
[552]
themselves
[553]
but think about this closely do you
[555]
learn more about trading setups and
[557]
trade planning
[558]
from charts like these and perhaps recap
[561]
videos with commentaries and executions
[565]
or a big fat p l screenshot like this
[568]
for me personally seeing others p l's
[571]
did not help me learn as a beginner
[574]
trader
[575]
in fact it had caused me to formal
[578]
trading on tilt
[579]
and blow up my accounts like the story i
[581]
had just mentioned
[583]
and that was entirely my own fault by
[585]
the way
[586]
you should never blame your losses on
[588]
other traders
[589]
whoever click the buy and sell button
[592]
following someone's trade alerts or not
[594]
it's entirely responsible for their own
[597]
outcome since seeing p l posts did not
[601]
help me as a beginner trader and nor is
[603]
it helping me now
[604]
six years later i decided not to post
[607]
them
[608]
actually my first time sharing it on
[610]
this youtube channel
[611]
was a loss and then a profit much later
[614]
on
[615]
and of course somebody would leave a
[617]
snarky comment
[618]
that my five figure loss was nothing
[621]
then later on my four-figure profit
[623]
while trading remotely in the quarantine
[626]
hotel was crap
[627]
honestly i don't know which world i have
[629]
to live in
[630]
in order to experience a life where four
[633]
or five figures of us dollars
[636]
isn't worth a lot but do you see what i
[638]
mean
[639]
posting and seeing p l's don't do myself
[642]
any good
[643]
i don't feel any gratification or
[645]
fulfillment
[646]
from prices saying wow six thousand
[649]
dollars good job
[650]
but at the same time the snarky remarks
[653]
on both my profits
[654]
and losses affect me and my trading
[657]
negatively
[658]
since we're all traders here this risk
[661]
reward
[662]
ratio in the situation just doesn't make
[665]
sense
[665]
in trading the most precious thing after
[668]
capital preservation
[670]
is your mental capital you could
[672]
probably tell that i'm an extremely
[674]
optimistic
[675]
and positive person most of the time i
[678]
do find that having a positive
[680]
outlook in life overall does make a huge
[684]
drastic
[685]
difference in your trading trajectory
[688]
social media could be beneficial
[690]
but extremely draining at the same time
[693]
yes i do understand that if i start
[695]
making videos
[696]
with titles and thumbnails like how i
[699]
made five
[699]
thousand dollars within five minutes day
[702]
trading
[703]
or make a thousand dollars a day easy
[706]
with a strategy i could probably get a
[709]
lot more views a lot more subscribers
[711]
and make a lot more money but if i do
[714]
that
[715]
i would be sacrificing my mental capital
[717]
that would affect my own trading
[719]
performance
[720]
and also that would just be betraying
[722]
who i really
[723]
am i am 100 sure that those won't be the
[727]
kind of video
[728]
i enjoy making and i'm just not willing
[731]
to do them so i can make a few more
[732]
bucks
[733]
this channel you're watching right now
[736]
has grown the way it has
[737]
from a little more than 5 000
[739]
subscribers a year ago
[741]
to now over 400 and all this is just
[745]
from me
[745]
standing right here sharing some of my
[748]
honest insights
[749]
tips and opinions on day trading and of
[752]
course
[752]
we cannot forget the bad jokes those are
[755]
the real selling factors here
[758]
i'm not a guru i still have losses in
[760]
trading
[761]
and i'm not a hundred percent right all
[763]
the time
[764]
and i share my charts executions and
[767]
discuss
[767]
my thoughts process in all my recap
[770]
videos
[771]
to me personally and from all the
[773]
feedback i've received
[775]
these recap videos are way more valuable
[778]
than screenshots of p l's last but not
[781]
least
[782]
i'm still single and having these
[784]
numbers out there in public eye
[786]
has and will affect personal
[789]
relationships
[790]
whether you are a man or a woman if you
[793]

[795]
of both day trading profits and losses
