10 FAST FOOD HACKS That Will Save You Money! - YouTube

Channel: The Deal Guy

[0]
- These are 10 new fast food secrets
[2]
to save you money in 2022.
[4]
And some of these secrets will save you serious cash
[7]
at your favorite fast food restaurants.
[10]
Secret number one pertains to McDonald's.
[13]
And if you enjoy a McFlurry,
[14]
here's how to enjoy the essence of one
[16]
at a fraction of the cost.
[18]
Add the toppings of your choice to a basic sundae
[21]
versus ordering the McFlurry
[24]
that already has the toppings included.
[26]
And to put this hack to the test,
[27]
watch as I go through a McDonald's drive-through,
[30]
and instead of ordering a regular McFlurry,
[32]
I order a hot fudge sundae,
[34]
and I ask them to include M&Ms on top.
[37]
They obviously have no issue with this.
[38]
And when I got to the window,
[40]
I paid the regular amount for the sundae,
[42]
and 35 cents for the added topping.
[45]
I've saved myself, at least a dollar.
[47]
I score the hot fudge,
[48]
which is my favorite topic to begin with.
[50]
And the only difference between this
[51]
and a McFlurry was that I had to mix it up
[54]
with my own spoon.
[55]
My second secret for point one is for Culver's,
[58]
which is a nationwide burger chain with 680 locations.
[62]
At my local Culver's,
[63]
a meal comprises a burger, fries,
[65]
and a soft drink of your choice for $6.59.
[69]
But most people don't realize the kid's meal
[72]
is almost the same size and for $5.59,
[76]
you get a burger, a fries, and a drink of your choice,
[78]
and a free ice cream.
[80]
At a first glance, you might think the kid's meal
[82]
is a lot smaller, but the only real difference is the drink.
[85]
The burgers are the exact same size.
[87]
The fries are the exact same portion.
[88]
And with the kid's meal,
[89]
you get a coupon that you can then immediately use
[92]
for a free scoop of vanilla or chocolate frozen custard.
[95]
You don't need to have kids
[96]
or have kids in the car with you.
[97]
You do not need to be a kid,
[99]
and you can take advantage of what could be
[101]
a potentially more enticing meal for $5.59
[105]
with the ice cream bonus.
[107]
For secret number two, I'll take aim at Chipotle,
[109]
and if you and a member of your family or a friend
[112]
want the same toppings in your burrito,
[114]
you are in luck with this hack.
[116]
Ask for a bowl, plus two tortillas on the side,
[120]
and you get at least two full burritos
[123]
or potentially a third for around $8
[125]
less than someone else might pay.
[128]
Here's how it works.
[129]
A regular chicken burrito is $8.10.
[133]
Remember this number for a moment.
[134]
Instead now, consider ordering a burrito bowl
[137]
with chicken instead of a chicken burrito,
[140]
and then add whatever toppings you want to the bowl.
[143]
In this case, I ordered rice, beans,
[145]
salsa, cheese, lettuce, and veggies,
[147]
which amounts to $8.10,
[149]
the same price as a chicken burrito.
[151]
Now here's the hack.
[152]
If you're ordering in-store or online
[155]
through the Chipotle app,
[156]
where it's a little bit less awkward,
[157]
you'll see an option on the Sides portion of the menu
[160]
for a tortilla on the side,
[162]
where you can now opt to order two tortillas on the side
[165]
at 25 cents each.
[167]
For a total of 50 cents extra,
[170]
you'll have two tortillas on the side of your bowl.
[172]
Now, watch what happens when I unwrap the tortillas
[175]
and I open up the bowl, which is giant and fully packed.
[178]
I have enough food to not only fill two burritos completely,
[182]
but if a third person isn't a big eater,
[184]
you could potentially even make a third burrito
[187]
from that same amount, which is crazy.
[190]
Again, by ordering a bowl with two tortillas
[193]
on the side for a total of $8.60,
[196]
you're saving at least $8 by not having to purchase
[200]
a second chicken burrito from scratch.
[203]
That's a lot of money.
[204]
Now, on to a very popular fast food restaurant
[207]
where I didn't think there were any other hacks
[208]
left over from prior videos
[210]
that I hadn't yet shared,
[212]
but here we go with point three
[214]
and Chick-fil-A.
[215]
Not many people know this, but Chick-fil-A has a kid's meal.
[218]
And the regular kid's meal is $5.50,
[221]
and it comes with a five count of nuggets, fries,
[223]
a toy, and a drink,
[225]
but something the general public does not always realize
[229]
is that you can actually ask Chick-fil-A
[231]
to swap out the not always overly awesome kid's toy
[235]
for a free ice cream.
[236]
So I went down to Chick-fil-A, I ordered the kid's meal,
[239]
and I asked to substitute the toy for an ice cream in a cup,
[243]
which they gladly accepted
[244]
with no additional fees attached to my order.
[247]
I thought this was a much better value
[249]
for just over five bucks, not only for kids,
[252]
but even as an adult,
[253]
I could definitely fill up on this if I was not famished.
[256]
And while we are on the topic of Chick-fil-A,
[257]
you can actually buy a grilled cheese
[260]
from Chick-fil-A on their classic bun
[262]
with their classic American cheese for well under a dollar,
[266]
thanks to this next hack.
[267]
At your next Chick-fil-A visit in-store
[269]
or at the drive-through,
[270]
simply ask for a grilled cheese,
[272]
which is generally just rung up as a charge
[275]
for a classic bun with the cheese addition.
[278]
And if you ask them to toast it,
[280]
you end up with grilled cheese where locally,
[282]
it only costs me 55 cents.
[284]
Since this is not on the menu,
[285]
I did notice on my receipt that my Chick-fil-A order
[288]
was labeled on my bill as a red flag.
[291]
Does this now mean I'm on some type
[293]
of Chick-fil-A watch list?
[294]
Am I in trouble?
[295]
If you work at Chick-fil-A,
[296]
please let me know in the comments section.
[298]
The only comment I will make about the grilled cheese
[300]
I ordered is that if I was going to order this again,
[303]
I would politely ask them to toast it a bit more.
[306]
I've seen other photos tied to this grilled cheese hack,
[309]
and I'm just thinking my local restaurant
[310]
might've been in a rush
[311]
or that they have a personal vendetta against me.
[314]
For secret number four, let's head to Starbucks,
[317]
and I will spill this hack all over my car,
[319]
which you'll see in a moment.
[321]
If you love a latte from Starbucks,
[323]
you're going to save a lot of money.
[325]
That's your dad joke.
[327]
But anyhow, if you want some flavor
[329]
when you order a drink from a barista,
[330]
asked for two shots of espresso in a grande cup
[334]
alongside two pumps of your favorite flavoring.
[337]
For the purposes of demonstration,
[338]
I'm going to order what I just suggested
[341]
with some caramel drizzle on top.
[343]
And I've all of a sudden produced
[345]
a budget caramel macchiato, where the savings add up.
[349]
This was the final product I ended up with in my car.
[352]
And while filming this, I was so generous.
[354]
I decided to share the entire beverage with my front seat,
[357]
but lucky enough,
[358]
the barista took pity on me and they were nice enough
[361]
to make another drink free of charge,
[363]
despite my stupidity.
[365]
For demonstration purposes,
[366]
the milk bar was closed at my local Starbucks,
[368]
so I had a little carton of milk to showcase
[371]
for the final product.
[372]
As you can see, I poured the milk
[374]
directly into the beverage and it looks exactly
[376]
like a caramel macchiato that you would get directly
[379]
from Starbucks at a much cheaper price.
[382]
And shout out to the former Starbucks barista
[384]
that took the time to share this knowledge
[386]
in the comments section of one of my prior videos.
[389]
Now, if you thought that was good,
[391]
be sure to stay with me until secret number nine
[393]
that could just blow your mind.
[394]
For secret number five,
[396]
let's head back to McDonald's.
[397]
If you enjoy those sauce packets for dipping
[399]
or for added flavor, you likely know they cost 25 cents
[403]
if you order them directly from the restaurant.
[405]
But if you use the app, they're completely free.
[409]
I went to a McDonald's in my area
[411]
to put this secret to the test,
[412]
and I ordered a quarter pounder with cheese,
[415]
and I also asked for barbecue sauce and spicy buffalo.
[419]
As you can see the McDonald's charged me
[421]
25 cents per packet.
[423]
Now, watch what happens when I place the exact same order
[426]
from the McDonald's app.
[427]
I order one quarter pounder,
[429]
and then I proceed within reason
[431]
to order as many sauce packets as I want,
[434]
and they are all rung up for a total of $0.
[438]
Shout out to the Deal Guy subscriber Solitude,
[440]
who shared this tip.
[442]
Now, when it comes to McDonald's French fries,
[444]
I'll have you know, for this next secret,
[445]
the small and the medium French fries
[448]
are almost always exactly the same size.
[452]
So if you're craving a medium order
[454]
of McDonald's French fries,
[455]
just order the small and save yourself some money.
[458]
To put this hack to the test for you guys to see,
[461]
I ordered a small and medium French fry from McDonald's,
[464]
and instead of displaying these to you
[466]
on my bare trunk lining,
[467]
I thought this tray that I had at home
[470]
would be a little bit more appropriate
[472]
for all of the wonderful people watching,
[473]
and I do appreciate you guys watching.
[475]
As you can see, as I pull the French fries out of the bag,
[478]
both the small and the medium
[480]
have a virtually identical amount of French fries.
[483]
It is true.
[484]
McDonald's kitchen staff do have a scoop to measure,
[487]
but if they're in a rush,
[488]
that's sometimes where the sloppiness happens
[490]
and that's where your savings begin.
[492]
And before I get to the next point,
[493]
if you guys are enjoying this content,
[494]
please feel free to give this video a thumbs up.
[497]
And if you do subscribe with your notifications turned on,
[499]
it's my opportunity to hook you up
[501]
with even more hacks and secrets.
[503]
Now, secret number six.
[505]
Did you know you can order a bag of ice
[508]
from virtually any fast food restaurant,
[510]
including McDonald's?
[511]
All you have to do is ask for a bag of ice
[515]
and for roughly around a dollar,
[517]
they will gladly give you a bag of ice,
[519]
which isn't always of the exact same quality
[521]
as a convenience store or gas station bag of ice,
[524]
but if you're in a rush or tailgating
[526]
or you have a cooler that you need to quickly fill with ice,
[529]
just ask, and you can get a bag of ice
[531]
for generally around a dollar.
[533]
Now, one other McDonald's hack that I wanna mention.
[536]
Did you know you can buy an entire birthday sheet cake
[540]
from certain McDonald's for just nine bucks?
[543]
If you know of a larger McDonald's,
[545]
you are likely able to score an entire sheet birthday cake
[549]
for just a nine bucks.
[552]
Secret number seven could score you free Frosties
[555]
from Wendy's for an entire year,
[556]
all for just buying a $2 key tag.
[560]
Here's how it works.
[561]
I bought the $2 key tag,
[563]
which typically goes on the sale at the end of every year.
[566]
And in this case, since I am uploading at the start of 2022,
[570]
these $2 frosty key tags are widely available,
[573]
and there is a link in the video description box.
[576]
Once I purchase the key tag,
[577]
all I need to do is flash this
[579]
and every time, as long as I'm making some other purchase
[582]
at Wendy's and there is no minimum,
[584]
I will be able to score a free Frosty all year,
[588]
all for just having purchased this $2 Frosty key tag once.
[593]
If that's not enticing enough,
[594]
most of the proceeds tied to the Frosty tags
[597]
go to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
[600]
Also at Wendy's is another secret to save you money
[603]
if you enjoy cheese fries.
[605]
Here's the hack.
[606]
Order the Baconator fries,
[608]
and tell them to hold the bacon.
[610]
You somehow end up with the regular cheese fries
[613]
for a cheaper price.
[614]
I have absolutely no idea why this is the case.
[617]
And just so you're aware,
[618]
tips like these are for off secret menu items,
[621]
and just be patient and polite
[622]
to the hardworking men and women serving you.
[624]
It's never worth ruining someone's day
[626]
to save a little bit of money,
[627]
but it is important to stay frugal,
[629]
and with that, we go to secret number eight.
[632]
My favorite way to save money on Starbucks
[634]
is to never go to Starbucks.
[636]
But if you are craving a Frappaccino,
[638]
and you do have a friend or family member
[640]
that wants the same drink, order a venti,
[643]
and then ask for a grande cup of free water.
[646]
Starbucks is generally not willing to give out free cups,
[649]
but they will give you a free grande cup of water.
[652]
You can then share your Frappuccino with someone else
[654]
once they consume or pour out the water.
[657]
And you'll notice that when I splurged on the venti
[659]
caramel Frappuccino that you see right here,
[662]
for the purposes of demonstration,
[664]
I can pour half of this into the grande cup,
[666]
and I have two heaping beverage portions
[670]
without ever having to pay for the second drink.
[672]
If you enjoy a sausage McMuffin at breakfast,
[675]
but you wanna save a little bit of money,
[676]
you can actually order a sausage McMuffin for $1,
[680]
depending on your McDonald's location, from the dollar menu,
[683]
and then also order a plain egg biscuit with a round egg.
[687]
And there you have it.
[688]
You've just ordered yourself a DIY sausage McMuffin for less
[693]
and a huge thank you to the subscriber, Ms. Marble Konover
[696]
who shared this tip.
[698]
Secret number nine is tied to Five Guys.
[701]
And if you enjoy a burger from this restaurant,
[703]
as many viewers and subscribers have indicated they do,
[706]
and none of the restaurants on this list are sponsoring me,
[708]
you can get as much free cheese and bacon,
[711]
which could benefit someone else,
[713]
which I'll get to in a moment, with this hack.
[715]
The key is all you need to do is order the cheapest burger
[718]
you can find that includes cheese and bacon.
[721]
So I ordered the Little Bacon Cheeseburger,
[724]
and then I asked for extra cheese and a lot of extra bacon,
[727]
as you can see from my receipt, for precisely $0 extra.
[732]
And then I was able to easily shift the bacon
[735]
from my burger to two other plain hamburgers
[738]
in the same order,
[739]
saving yourself or any of the other people in a party
[742]
ordering with you, the few extra dollars
[744]
to enjoy the gift of bacon.
[746]
At Taco Bell, there's a new option on their menu
[749]
which you can tie to a hack,
[751]
which I'll explain in a moment.
[752]
It's called the Taco Pass.
[754]
And this presents a great value where you pay $10
[757]
and you score a free taco every day
[760]
for the next 30 days after you buy the Taco Pass,
[763]
and you can choose from a variety of different tacos,
[766]
one of which I enjoyed in my car.
[768]
The hack is that if you aren't likely to fill up
[771]
on just one taco,
[772]
create different accounts tied to different email addresses
[775]
and buy additional Taco Passes.
[778]
There's nothing to stop you from creating
[780]
a second or third account
[782]
and buying that second or third Taco Pass,
[785]
which would potentially mean for $30,
[788]
you get three tacos every day for a 30-day period
[792]
on every visit.
[793]
Now that might sound ridiculous to you,
[795]
but it's a cheap way to feed yourself
[797]
or to give back to people in need.
[800]
And while not quite a secret,
[802]
if you or anyone in your family enjoys Burger King,
[805]
their typically kind of expensive Whopper,
[807]
which costs a whopping $5.79 depending on your location,
[812]
is just $2 if you order a Whopper on Wednesday.
[816]
For my next fast food secret,
[818]
before we get to a couple of bonus hacks,
[820]
did you know that if a grandchild or child
[822]
that belongs to you happens to get an A
[825]
on their report card,
[826]
that A can be rewarded with free donuts?
[830]
I actually double checked this with a local Krispy Kreme
[833]
just to find out how it all worked,
[835]
and some locations will reward each A on a report card,
[839]
up to six As, with six free donuts,
[842]
while other Krispy Kreme locations will just give you
[844]
a free donut if you have an A anywhere on that report card.
[847]
So, with a little bit too much time on my hands,
[850]
I imagined what would it look like if I had a report card?
[854]
And while I obviously didn't use this report card
[856]
to score free donuts, here you go.
[859]
You're welcome.
[860]
Now, onto DQ or really any tip to apply
[864]
to all of your favorite fast food restaurants,
[867]
always ask for your receipt and always keep an eye out
[870]
on the receipt for any additional offers or survey codes,
[873]
which could score you more free food.
[876]
At Dairy Queen, for the purposes of this demonstration,
[878]
my receipt had the option for a completely free Dilly Bar
[882]
in exchange for my completion of a quick survey.
[886]
I completed the free survey and I enjoyed my free Dilly Bar,
[890]
which tasted even more delicious because it was free.
[893]
Now as a bonus,
[895]
I wanted to mention another user submitted fast food hack
[898]
that other people have had success with,
[900]
and it is tied to Raising Canes.
[903]
The hack is that when you go,
[904]
if you want some of their highly popular
[906]
and delectable toast for free,
[909]
which is usually $1 per slice,
[912]
order the Sandwich Combo, but ask for no lettuce,
[915]
the sauce on the side,
[916]
and then ask to substitute the sandwich bun for Texas toast.
[921]
You'll hopefully score an extra piece
[923]
of Texas toast for free.
[925]
In my case, this unfortunately did not work,
[928]
but it is apparently a thing.
[930]
And for my final bonus, which does work,
[932]
if you are a Sam's Club warehouse member,
[934]
a reminder, consider stocking up on gift cards
[937]
for your favorite fast food restaurants from Sam's,
[939]
because there are additional savings
[941]
built into the gift cards that you buy for cash.
[944]
As an example, you can buy $25 of Subway gift cards
[947]
for 23.98 or $50 of Starbucks gift cards for $48.88.
[953]
And these offers are substantially better
[956]
through the holiday quarter,
[958]
where you could cut your costs by up to 20%,
[960]
and not just the one or two dollars
[962]
that I'm showing you here.
[964]
But of course, every dollar does add up.
[966]
I should also mention I'm not advocating
[968]
to eat fast food all the time,
[969]
but for those of you on the go,
[971]
or if you need the convenience or the special treat,
[973]
hopefully you enjoyed this list.
[975]
Thank you so much for watching.
[976]
It's been a pleasure to have you here.
[978]
I love you. Bye-bye.
