chances are you know somebody whose life has been聽
affected by cancer and that includes those whose聽聽

family or friends have struggled with it well聽
thankfully there are resources being poured聽聽

into the daily effort to find a cure one of聽
those vital resources is relay for life and聽聽

one of our local resources is teaming up with聽
relay for life in a very special way we'd like聽聽

to welcome back to the studio joe long chief聽
financial officer at avery hall insurance group聽聽

and jeff smith one of the stars of a very聽
special event this weekend thank you both for聽聽

joining us this afternoon thank you for having聽
us jeff you were you got the the hat the fedora聽聽

thing going on yeah this is not your daily聽
this is not my daily outfit i'm uh i in the聽聽

the production that we're doing is a聽
production of uh the adventures of the thin man聽聽

uh nick and norah charles and i play nick charles聽
and this is how nick charles would have dressed聽聽

in the 40s most likely so i'm dressed for the 40s聽
do we call him nick right now or can we just well聽聽

i mean he's in he's in a costume he's in character聽
if you call me nick i'll have to go into character

so tell us about the special recorded performance聽
that avery hall insurance group is hosting yes um聽聽

so we again get to partner with lower shore聽
performing arts and we have a new partnership聽聽
[80]
this year with chincoteague island arts聽
organization and so we are doing the an old-time聽聽

old-fashioned radio show and they have filmed聽
it it'll be streaming live starting the 16th聽聽

and we're running it through the 30th and you can聽
buy tickets all the all the way through up to the聽聽

30th to watch okay so this is uh being performed聽
by the lower shore performing arts company tell聽聽

us a little bit about them uh their uh mission is聽
to promote the arts and promote a community that聽聽
[110]
really encourages the arts through education and聽
artistic opportunities like this one they've done聽聽
[115]
productions like 1776. uh if you might remember聽
a few years ago they they put on the production聽聽
[121]
of michael o'leary's play uh from several years聽
ago yes yes so they've been around for a while uh聽聽
[127]
and they've been working with avery hall insurance聽
for the last several years to put on a show some聽聽
[133]
sort of performing arts show in the past couple of聽
years it's been storytelling events right and this聽聽
[137]
year we've decided to do a play to promote for the聽
american cancer system this just sounds like fun聽聽

it is it's a lot of fun to do okay so let me ask聽
you this avery hall has raised a bunch of money聽聽
[148]
for the american cancer society yes um 120 125聽
000 somewhere in that neighborhood and you've聽聽
[155]
been doing this for a while yes 24 years joe can聽
you tell me is there a time where you've actually聽聽
[161]
come in contact with someone who was聽
positively affected by that partnership yes聽聽
[168]
we have you know as you know cancer touches聽
everybody whether it be um a family member聽聽
[174]
bu it be a co-worker so we have had people in聽
the office that have utilized their resources聽聽

american cancer society is one of the largest next聽
to the government for funding research for cancer聽聽
[189]
but i know with lower shore impact they've had聽
several people that have we have two people in聽聽
[194]
the production are cancer survivors catherine聽
redden who directed the show and was also our our聽聽
[201]
sound gal our foley artist um and chris justin聽
who is in the cast is also a cancer survivor聽聽

my father was also recently diagnosed with a brain聽
tumor and he is also undergoing cancer treatments聽聽

right now oh wow wow so this does it close to聽
home it affects all of us yes yes all right so聽聽

um we're not gonna let you get away without going聽
into character so we need nick to tell us where聽聽

and when we can catch the show uh let's see so uh聽
the show is uh let's see i have to i have to put聽聽
